In today's video, we will be talking about the backstory of the main antagonist of Final Fantasy X-2, Shuyin, and analyze his background and what led him to becoming the vengeful spirit we see in the game. I just loved that you said something very important and crucial at the ending: Tidus is not Shuyin's representation in Dream Zanarkand, but rather the descendant os his representation. Many people who I talk to about this topic always seems to get this part wrong...

Personally I think you are wrong about this. I think Tidus is the hero Shuyin COULD have been if he choose another path. Tidus isn't really Shuyin at all. Just an idea. A dream. He never really existed. Shuyin did. Tidus is a moment in time snatched and kept in stasis. Tidus is the version of Shuyin if he became a hero. Maybe the Fayth even recongized these qualities and specifically choose him and let him go to Spira through Sin with the help of Auron. (Auron could only do this because of course by this time he was dead and unsent. In fact you could even debate that the entire reason they let Jecht go first was to give Tidus the motivation since there is no real explanation on how he got to Spira) IMO Shuyin still played Blitzball. He still had a father similar to Jecht. Its just that in Shuyins reality it was a time of war. Shuyin fell in love with a summoner. Very similar to Tidus because like Yuna she was sent to die at the front lines and he couldn't stand the idea and because of his love for her he went down a dark path. But hey to each their own. Still a great video.
@@TheNin-Jedi I always thought Tidus was the Fayth's memory of Shuyin. Dream Zanardand isn't an exact duplicate of the real Z, just as how a number of Fayth remembered it. Jecht lived 1000 years ago, he was famous so that's why in Dream Z he is almost identical to his former self. But Tidus was younger and less well known by the people; the fayth might not even have known or remembered Tidus's real name, so Tidus is a composite of the memories of Shuyin, the fayth only got him about half-right

Love Shuyin as a character, so misunderstood. Would love to dive into his backstory a lot more than what we were shown
Yes there is a lot on Shuyins story. That’s what I don’t like about the story is that is so good but we don’t know much about most of the characters, which leaves us with wanting to find out more about them
Aww, I love Shuyin. He's very underrated.

I wouldnt say the game would be too different. Maybe tidus becomes a "tsundere" kind of character lol
great video! really enjoyed it! some similar videos about the history of FF characters and lore can be a little overly long and hard to follow, so enjoy that this was short and to the point!

Oh I love the part right at the end. I say it all the time. It's like the most iconic thing from my most beloved series for me. Hearing someone else say it as well is so much fun.
Great video man. I was just thinking of who the dude was in FFX-2 that looked exactly like Tidus. Playing this game for some time but never got to beat it and found out the lore behind this character. Honestly makes me want to get back into the remastered version 😃

I always thought Tidus was Shuyin but the dream version of him. I'm a little confused as to why one of Tidus's ancestors would be the representation of Shuyin and not just Tidus himself.
I know much about this game. I played this. And won. I’m glad They Can Rest now and Spira Is saved.

Shuyin is the true son of ject from the real zanarkand. Tidus is from the dream zanarkand. You can't just change the facts.
Tidus was made up of diff parts of shuyin via the pyreflies and probs some of his own hence why he was so nice.

I would say it is, as long as you prevent yourself from making the comparisons with FFX. As a game of its own, it is a really good game. I really enjoy its gameplay elements

It's not. I couldn't get past my love of the first game. Hopefully you won't have that issue, because it's an interesting game. I just hated it.

He perfectly explained it. Shuyin had a dream replica conjured by the fayth that based on Shuyin. Tidus is a descendent of that replica.

He just explained in this video. Shuyin comes from the real Zanarkand that was destroyed 1000 years ago. The Dream Zanarkand that was a replica of the real Zanarkand but not actually real, hence “Dream” Zanarkand had a replica person based on Shuyin but of course not directly related to Shuyin, just merely inspired by the real Shuyin. Anyway that replica of Shuyin had descedents that leads to Tidus. Tidus is not actually Shuyin or even a replica of Shuyin, he is a descendent of a replica. Making him vaguely based on Shuyin except for mere looks which was probably intentional by the Fayths and Yevon who created Dream Zanarkand and all the people who live in it, including Tidus.
Sooo, is shuyin the one that was alive during the war between zanarkand and bevel thousand years ago? And was awaken as tidus in a dream ?
What i believe yes. And its strange that theres a few holes that can be filled in to. Yuna may be the reincarnation of lenne !!! But yuna is real not a dream. Maybe tidus succeeded saving yuna while shuyin failed. Crazy right so yuna helped shuyin let go and rest. Who knows what there planning with ffx3. Also who was in control of sin before jecht and sin accidently touched jecht by mistake ????

Yes to the first question. Not exactly to the second question. Tidus is a descendent of a dream replica based on Shuyin. Not related, but definitely not coincidence either. Merely inspired.

No, he’s dream version descendent of a replica of Shuyin.
Tidus is not related to Shuyin in any shape or form other than the fact that they kinda look alike, in the same way Lenne is not related to Yuna in any way. The whole theme of Final Fantasy X and X-2 is to lay the past to rest and move on. In X-2 specifically it is about Yuna putting the burdens of the past that linger in her mind to rest. The fact that Shuyin looks like Tidus is meant to symbolize that Yuna has not healed from her grief of losing Tidus and no matter how much she wants to believe he is alive and Shuyin was him, it just is not the case and she comes to term with that as the game progresses as well as coming to terms that Tidus is a part of her past and she must move on. Many elements in the story deal with leaving the past behind. Such as Paine coming to the realization that Nooj did not betray Barali, Gippel and Her but was trying to protect them so she comes to forgive him and put the past behind her. Rikku forgiving Brother for causing her irrational trauma of Lightning in the past and even overcoming it. To summarise. No, Shuyin is not who Tidus in OG Zanarkand is, or related to him in any way, he is simply designed as such to tell the story to us the player that Yuna is battling an inner struggle of laying what happened in her past to rest. In a way, healing Shuyins heart and allowing him his last moment with Lenne so that they can say what was never on the day so their souls could both be at peace was closure for her as well for herself to realize that she should let Tidus rest. This is why as much as i hate that its canon, that i truly despise the Tidus coming back to life ending of X-2 as it throws all of that compelling and beautiful storytelling throughout the game down the proverbial shitter by having the Bahamut Fayth epicly troll her the 3 years she was in mourning by saying "oh i could just bring him back to life lol" 🙄
Tidus relation to Shuyin is more complicated than that, they may not literally related but to make it simpler you can say shuyin is tidus anscestor real copy, so they some sort of related

I never understood why the proper way to pronounce it is tee-dus out of ti dus I will always pronounce it tiedus myself might as well call him tittie's
@@Kymewc it's because in an Okinawan dialect Tida means sun and Yuna means moon.
No it's not. If your reference for that pronounciation is merely Wakka in KH1 then you need to do more research because that is not the only time it has been voiced and it was pronounced Tie-das. So get off your high horse.

At the end of the day, you know what character is being talked about so its just wasted energy on your part for being upset.
