The 360 I had was a good engine, but the timing chain was totally stretched. Once it was done reliable as anything. The 86 wagoneer reminds me of the one Carrie Fisher drove in the Movie " The Burbs" with Tom Hanks. Cheers for the troubleshooting....
First time watching. I had a '74 Cherokee an later an '83 GW fresh outta high school. Both tough rigs, but the tailgates an lower rockers on both rusted so bad, they were scrapped. 360 engine was awesome.👍 ill be watching your progress.😊
"its an AMC 360. Which means-" Which means it burns oil and throws main bearings at the drop of a hat. I grew up with these vehicles. Time has warped peoples perception on how good these cars really were. There was a reason AMC went bankrupt.
Yeah... My uncle had a wagoneer with a 360, kept it in Amazing condition cosmeticwise. In the end he ended up swapping in a 426 in it... (This is me retelling from him, so if it doesn't make sense, don't get at me)
My dad owns a 87 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the last year that AMC made the last Wagoneer before they were bought out, the sunroof may leak with heavy rainfall and the windows have flextracks and if broken the windows will not go back up and the back window might also have a few issues and the shift linkage goes out and I'm not kidding get rid of it because it will not go into park and might roll away and hit something, they make aftermarket shifters for the 727 and have fun trying to get parts because there's not many companies who make parts for a Wagoneer, you can swap the motor in a Wagoneer it will take a bit of fabrication and lots of little things, I love these AMC jeeps and we have 3 but their great for off-road or a street machine/show car or a summer cruiser, so that's all I can say but jeeps like the Wagoneer are prone to rusted out rocker panels and floor in the north say like Michigan or Wisconsin
LOL "Sunburn from a desk lamp" LOL Great job reviving that legendary Jeep! But the XJ hate... I've got an 1998 XJ with 315k miles that I'd put up against that Wagoneer any day. 😀
@@BuildSeason I bought my "Toaster" from New Mexico and did a full build with it. Started with the leaking main seal, valve cover gasket, intake\exhaust manifold gasket (original engine btw). Fully replaced suspension with a 3" lift and larger tires. Brakes, master cylinder, radiator, injectors, plugs, wires, all bushings, fixed wiring gremlins, headliner, clock spring, all LED lighting throughout, spare tire swing gate rear bumper, full exhaust, you name it. Insanely fun and easy to work on a rust free XJ! I have a ton of pictures but never filmed it, (during COVID and break from my RUclips activity). I did put the full story on my channel now, with the history. When I was done I drove it to Indiana to the Bad Lands Off Road Park and wheeled. Gotta love the old Jeeps!
Greetings from Antigo, Wisconsin...what part of the state are you located, if I may ask? I really enjoy your vids... good flow and vibes...mmmm, French dips 🤤
I forgot to mention about the electrical issues from AMC, they used very thin wires and this is a problem that I haven't found a solution to but the turn signal will in some cases not work, for my dad's it's not much of a problem because it's a dune truck but if you want to use it a lot you might as well find a alternative to the current fuse block if that problem is present and the duraspark is trash my dad got rid of his rights away and went with a distributor instead of that
Just what I needed on a Wednesday while home and sick on the couch! Strange enough I now have a hunger for a French dip sandwich…
@@DeanofMachines 🤣
Same. Im home sick as well. Why is everyone sick at the same time? Did they chem-trail us with a bunch of bacteria and viruses? 😂😅
Hope you start feeling better.

Nice job on the jeep, interested to see it finished.
