Meet the Master - Gibson Custom’s in-house Master Artisan Rick “Rickie” Hinrichsen started his career at Gibson 12 years ago, first as a binder, then in whitewood and setup in the Nashville craftory. One day, an opportunity presented itself to hand-carve a paisley design on a guitar, and Rickie knew he was up to the challenge. Though having no formal experience in hand carving wood but deep experience in hand drawing and visual arts, he took the guitar home, bought three chisels, and got to work. He soon discovered that if he could draw it, he could carve it. After six months of meticulous work, Rickie completed his first piece.
Recognizing he possessed a unique talent, he was offered a position as the Gibson Custom Shop’s in-house Master Artisan. As Rickie says, “They just let me run wild, and the ideas are still coming.”
Every one of Rickie’s designs is unique and one of a kind. Each design is hand-drawn, then skillfully hand-carved using a Gibson Custom guitar or a MESA/Boogie amplifier as the artist’s canvas.
Many of the inlays are also hand-created by Rickie, along with other details such as wood-burning, hand-etched truss rod covers, and hand-engraved pickup covers. Each is a fully playable musical instrument with the exceptional sound quality and playability that are the hallmarks of Gibson Custom guitars and MESA/Boogie amplifiers.
What is the Gibson Master Artisan Collection?
In short, these guitars are works of art that are meant to be played.
Located within the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, TN, Gibson partners with groundbreaking artisans to create these bespoke instruments - custom-designed and built to be fully functional, authentically Gibson, and utterly one of a kind.
Join host Dinesh Lekhraj as he chats with Master Artisan Rickie Hinrichsen to walk us through some of his most prized and unique Master Artisan Gibson guitars. Each design is hand-drawn and skillfully hand-carved by Rickie using Custom Shop guitars and even a MESA/Boogie amplifier.

Thanks for all the lovely comments people! Rick's laugh is contagious. Such a wonderful and passionate guy! We had a great time filming it and spending time with the amazing Rickie! See the full Rickie Hinrichsen Master Artisan Collection available only from Gibson, HERE: bit.ly/3vuRlON
My son Cory just purchased the Aztec Explorer at the Gibson Garage in Nashville Tennessee. We both fell in love with that guitar!!! We have talked about investing in a guitar and we felt this was the one!!!
OK, I'll take whatever he's taking haha! Super talented and looks like a great guy too
LOL, actually, he’s just a really happy and good person. He’s never taken any drugs. If he drinks, his limit’s like 2 beers. Can’t even get him to take allergy medicine unless he’s miserable. Rickie Hinrichsen is the most genuine, honest, talented man I’ve ever known. And I should know. He’s my dad ❤
@@EveIsJustMyBlogNameYour dad is very talented, and 'fun'. His work is AMAZING. The world needs more men like him.
Blessings to you and your family.
@EvelsJustMyBlogName
: )
Rickie certainly is a great guy! Thanks for watching! Love your channel!
What an artist. That's stunning work.
Thank you!
It's a pleasure seeing people take such joy in creating.
Joy is the word I use often
So good to hear.@@RickieHinrichsen
Hey Rick, tell us you love your job without telling us your love your job.
Awesome video!!
Rick's laugh is contagious. Such a wonderful and passionate guy! Thanks for watching.
@BXGuitars, How could you tell? (Chuckle)
Thats so cool that they just let him do whatever. Thats exactly what makes for the best art. It definitely shows too.
What an awesome dude, love the art he created!
Thank goodness someone had the fore sight to turn this man loose to do his own thing. What an incredible Artist/Craftsman
That's why I love Gibson.
It isnt a brand. It is a passion.
You know it!
One would imagine that passion leads to your guitars staying in tune and not having shitty paintjobs but Gibson continues to disprove that notion
@@razztastic all my Gibbys are top notch. Flawless.
These are the kinds of guitars I totally understand crazy numbers for price! These are all true works of art that you can actually play...wow!!!
Every one of those guitars is packed full of Rick’s energy. This man is an absolute legend, incredible builds
This gentleman is most certainly an artist. Awsome people working for awsome guitar company. Keep it up Gibson. I want me a custom big fat leather strap for my les paul now. And the gun one that is Sick... I bet slash would like that one.
Rick is absolutely an Artist - and he's such a lovely chap too! Thanks for watching.
@@gibson your very welcome. Keep up the good work.
His work is so beautiful and his passion is amazing! Such a beautiful and talented soul! We love Rick and are so incredibly proud of him! Thankful to know him! ❤
My favourites are the first Les paul and the V. The craftsmanship in all of the guitars is incredible. The guy is a mad genius.
I'm blown away. The talent and skill to produce something like that is truly exceptional. They look amazing. You can see he's proud of his work, and rightfully so.
What an awesome job. Making things that bring joy and music into the world.
I love his laugh ❤
I have always dreamed of a Gibson Les Paul, these masterpiece are awesome!
I love Gibson ❤
Wow. It gets CRAZIER and CRAZIER 😃 Works or Art. The level of detail 😳🤯
Putting the yellow strings in the painted one is super attention to detail 🔥☄️⚡️
I think so too!
Amazing artwork! I'd rather spend big bucks buying one of theses guitars than on a '59 Burst. I think my favorite is the Flying V. Cool beyond words!
Super cool art! Love seeing people who love what they do, it’s very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
This guy is so amazing. Constant smile. Beautiful work. Constant smile.
(Smile)
i love his smile!!!
Love this guys laugh, so wholesome! This is really great, what an Artist!!! 😮

Pure talent. Just wow!

Thanks a lot!
Absolutely a great insight in to what happens at Gibson. Just awesome to see things like this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic Work ❤
I just am amazed by this? "Fantastic".
Amazing work.
Wow! Incredible work.
Thank you very much!
A Q for Gibson - A dealer I've purchased a couple of Gibson Customs from had an amazing 1-of-1 last time I was there: the Les Paul was called "Ho O'Lana". It had wood carving of a surf scene on the body face with dolphin inlays on the fretboard, an octopus inlay on the headstock and quite a few other amazing details ... *did Rickie make it?* It was absolutely INSANE!!!! Since the guitar was sold I wasn't even allowed to touch it, let alone take it out of the case and hold it. I asked the owner if he'd play it just so I could have a tiny sonic taste but he kindly declined. He may deal in Murphy Lab but he definitely had an aversion to Murphy's Law 😅 I don't blame him.
Rickie loves his job. Cool!
Does it show? : )
It definitely looks like it ;-)
It would be cool to see him do an acoustic 😍😍😍
Sure would!
Please stay tuned…
Heck yeah Rick so happy for ya your works is amazing.
That Flying V though! I’d bet a new slash snake pit is in the works ;)
Outstanding!
Thank you kindly!
OUTSTANDING, Thank You Gibson.
As some have stated in these comments, Players can be passionate about these instruments.
In 1977, at the age of only 15, I worked 3 Summer jobs to save up enough money to purchase a brand new Les Paul Deluxe, and I've never looked back since.
Women have come and gone in my life, but I've always owned a Les Paul. 😉
I love the Explorer , it needs a severed head rolling down the pyramid steps on the back ! Thanks !
Gibson!!
YES!
Playable art, perfect for that one-time use in a music video. Definitely not for regular touring use. The psychedelic Les Paul was my favorite.
Amazing man
What a great artist. I'd be happy too. 👍🏻
Absolutely
I'm trying to figure out what's so funny.... Love this guy's work!
I really hope to see Troglys commentary over this video on his channe soonl!
😊man what a fun happy guy. Great artist.
Wow! Each one was amazing. An incredible amount of talent and time on display here. What do these sell for!?
What an incredible human being! Best laugh
The BEST laugh!
Amazing! No wonder they let him do whatever he wants. Beautiful work
museum pieces, just beautiful work
This man has to be the van Gogh of guitar art, breathtaking.......
The Old West was my favourite.
Happy employees = happy customers
The best!
This guy i a true artist and craftsman to the max degree for gibson!! murphy lab people take beautiful guitars and trash them. no artist in trashing. its all a fact.
Rick seems like the chillst dude in the world
He has the most infectious laugh; thanks for the awesome showcase.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazing as it is, though what I really want is the model that Gibson made in the mid-70s to early 80s. I would like to order such a model. It may not Burst but Gibson guitar that I used to see in showcase and catalog when I was a kid. My dream guitar…
This guys laugh is classic 😂
I need to get some tacos with Rickie !
Y’know I do love tacos
That man laughs like a guy who thinks I can’t believe they pay me for this!
And what would be the cost of these ?
Hello! Links in the description
@@gibson doesn’t say guess megabux
How about a Slash model with hand carved and painted python scales on the top.
Now that would be cool
Wow... 😵🤤
Not bad. Gonna wait for the Epiphone versions.
I want one of those straps. @gibson!!!
$30,000, $25,000, $50,000... to rich for my blood. Crazy money. Love the art, passion and the craftmanship, but DAMN they are FUGLY.
It almost seems like he is embarrassed to admit someone employs him to play around all day. I don’t say play to be disparaging, I think if you asked him he would agree that he is having so much fun playing with whatever he wants to play with as far as creativity is concerned.
I’m truly humbled by the freedom and trust the Gibson leadership has given me
If Trogly sees this, his head might explode.
He is laughing all the way to the bank! So are Gibson.
Now we know where all that money goes, that people pay for gibson guitars nowadays. How would a company employ someone who works 4 weeks full time on one guitar that is not going for sale
Good for a laugh.
How about you quit talking over the guy jesus
It makes me want to throw up thinking about how much people are willing to pay for a single guitar
When talking about detailed craftsmanship , close up shots would be nice. Very frustrating video.
Hello! We definitely made sure we have plenty of close up shots :) usually around the opening of the case and when Dinesh holds the guitar :) Thanks for watching!
This guy missed his calling as a laugh track recording artist... or failed stand up commedian.
The luthier has immense talent and I really liked a couple of the guitars he presented. But in my opinion, the yellow and green circle guitar was an eye sore. Also, the last one is not my style. But I appreciate the vision and creativity of the luthier. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure there are some people who thought both of those guitars were amazing. I would like to see some more of his custom designs.
In my earlier post I forgot to mention that the luthier seems like a super cool and down to earth guy.
Bought a es355 from mod shop. After two luthier trips changed the defective pickup is an ok guitar
This is better than anything prs could ever do
