After over 35 years, there is finally an official Drunks With Guns LP documenting the original incarnation of the now-legendary midwest noise rock act. It's been cleaned up by Weasel Walter (who somehow made it sound dirtier), features a previously unreleased track in addition to having all the hits, so you know you need it. Grab one while you can -- for sale direct from the band -- because when these sell out, they'll be gone for good.
For those not in the know, Drunks With Guns have a chaotic history, but they are one of the bands who pioneered the classic noise rock sound. The members have ties with the likes of Theatre Of Ice and Strangulated Beatoffs, and have gone through countless lineup changes (at one point, there were 2 separate bands calling themselves Drunks With Guns).

Some old guy showed up at my last job fixing electronics and after I changed some settings on his cell phone to fix the problem he was having, he asked if I liked noisy music and I said "hell yeah" so he came back with a shirt, bumper sticker, and patch for Drunks With Guns. Listened to this after my shift and instantly loved it. Wish I knew who the hell the guy was.

I'm glad to see this band receive some special treatment, hopefully this release dethrones the 1987 self-titled release for "definitive" DwG album.
Walt did a great job remastering the tracks too, noticeably improved clarity without sacrificing the fuzzed-over filth sound.

According to Doskocil (and the liner notes on the back of the jacket for this), the 87 LP was a bootleg, but I don’t know the full history there. Agreed about everything, though. My only gripe is the drums on Wonderful Subdivision got a little lost in the mix, but otherwise the tracks all sound both clearer and grittier than I’ve ever heard them

My band (Butt Trumpet) used to cover one of their songs (Wonderful Subdivision). All I have to say is that not enough people understand just how essential this material is. I hope this release helps with that.

Saw Butt Trumpet open up for Fear in NYC in the mid 1990s. The singer quit the band halfway through their set and everyone thought he was kidding and he wasn’t. The rest of the band looked at each other like “what do we do now?” and tried doing one song without him but it was terrible and the band just left the stage. “Fear” were awful. It was Lee Ving with three hired hands who sounded like they used to be in generic metal L.A. bands. What a disappointing night.
