    You dont need a external SSD just a HDD for now. Until the PS5 expansion is unlocked and can get internal storage. The best price or a Seagate 5tb portable HDD that will play PS4 games flawlessly and transfer PS5 games to for saving space on the PS5 for only $100 from Costco's or Amazon. Instead of buying a 4TB SSD for around $400 even with a external SSD you still can not install and play PS5 games from and the transfer speeds are not much different when transferring from a HDD or SSD using USB 3.0. As of right now I have over 400gb free on my PS5 and a bit over 3tb free on the 5tb with over 200 PS4 games installed and ready to play and I have transferred 4 PS5 games that I have beat to the 5tb and like I said I still have over 3tb of free storage on the 5tb HDD and over 400gb free on the PS5 itself. I'll assume I can still install and play around another 100 to 150 PS4 games on the 5tb HDD before ever running out of storage. Speeds maybe a bit slower on a HDD but not by much when transferring via USB 3.0.
    Edit: Just dont ever buy the SSD or HDD with Sony or MS names on it, you will be paying more just cause it has the name on the drive.

    Here is how I see it... an external SSD connected to the PS5 to actually 'play' PS4 games.... save internal drive for playing PS5 games. Also note, adding an m.2 internal SSD will increase your PS5 storage capacity, but it will also increase internal heat of the console. I'd much rather simply cold storage my PS5 games on the external drive and keep games I'm actively playing on the internal to avoid the added heat. Heat is a killer, and considering I game for 10-12 hours a day on my days off... that's a lot of long-term heat.

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis Год назад

      There are comparisons in terms of heat with various internal drives with their heat sinks. It makes it a bit hotter but it’s not like you are putting a new graphics card in there it’s just a hard drive. Unless you are playing in warm ambient room temperatures it shouldn’t be a problem.

      I'm really curious about this as I just heard about this possibility and I have a 1TB m2 I bought on sale lying unopened, but I too worry about about the heat and have long sessions. Heat really is a killer, it killed my last pc as I very stupidly put in an old mechanical drive for added storage. The cooling system couldn't handle it and I was suddely looking at 100 Celsius degrees for several parts. I really don't want to to do the same to the ps5 where I can't even monitor the temperatures. • @method_serge
      @method_serge  3 года назад +3

      Hello! I’m really glad you liked my video, at the moment ps5 cannot launch ps5 games from external ssd, you can just move ps5 games back and forth from internal to external and that way you can free up some space for new games, the big issue is that PS5 is not transferring the data at the supposed speed, its way way slow, because of that some ultra fast SSD are just useless.
      If you are looking for massive storage space and don’t mind some noise from mechanical drives and the space needed you can go all the way with a WD D10 game drive 8TB (shop.westerndigital.com/en-au/products/external-drives/wd-black-d10-game-drive-usb-3-2-hdd#WDBA3P0080HBK-SESN). If you want the absolute small foot print and no noise or vibrations go for the Samsung T5 4TB.

      I used a Seagate 4TB external game drive, mechanical, the big kind, and funny thing is, when I use it with my ps5 I actually get noticably better speeds. For example Kingdoms of Amlur, which can be slow to the point of infuriating, was a lot better. I now also removed the internal ps4pro hdd because broke, I then realized my heat problems with the ps4pro came from that drive, as sticking and old 320gb laptop drive in there made it stop sounding like a jet engine. Looking further at the preinstalled drive, a Toshiba MQ01, it is a very slow drive with a rating of 700ish I think it was on passmark, I'm now going to replace it with the crucial bx500 ssd, which is very cheap, but not that good, but still has a rating that is soaring above the toshiba so it will be interesting to see (and hear) the difference.

    Sorry but i don’t understand the capacity conversion here. Correct me if i’m wrong, but i thought that 1 gb = 1000 mb. So why did you write Samsung T7 10 gbps when it only rated 1000 mbps, and Samsung T5 for 5gbps when it only rated 500 mb. Do i understand your video incorrectly?

    • @method_serge
      @method_serge  3 года назад +3

      Hey mate, no worries, here the explanation;
      For marketing purposes Samsung and other companies are using the term Gbps, that is Giga bits per second, totally different that GBps which is Giga bytes per second, 1 Byte has 8 bits, so 10Gbps/8bits= 1.25GBps or 1250MB/s that should be the max speed for 10Gbps in the ideal world, nevertheless samsung put in their box 1050MB because their ssd or interface cannot do more than that, is worth to be said; Samsung T7 uses a NVME SSD in their drive.
      On the other hand T5 is also marketed as 10Gbps and labeled in their box as "up to 550MB/s" speeds, this is because T5 is using a sata bus SSD that is around the 5Gbps, so 5Gbps/8bits= 625MB/s, but again Samsung cannot do more than 550MB and that is what is labeled in their product.
      The 1000MB and 500MB are approximations of the rated or stated speeds given by Samsung in their products, but in reality is 1250MB for 10Gbps, and 625MB for 5Gbps in the ideal world, but this is a thing that never happen to be achieved.
