- The PSI King, voiced by Jack Black, rocks out with his band once Raz successfully gets the band back together! PsychoNauts 2 is a dazzling platformer with very unique characters.

Does anyone else love how the memory vault has actual plot relevance outside of being a colectable?
Also, none of the memory vaults in the level can be attained before getting Projection later in the game.
Vaults always had plot relevance, that’s their whole thing

@@logangraham3689 I actually got one of the vaults in this stage by using my fully upgraded Pyrokinesis. Ford Forgets, I believe.

“Wanna bet, Helmut?” might be one of the most masterfully executed tone whiplash moments in a game I’ve ever experienced

Still can't believe they got Jack black for this role, he was perfect and I couldn't imagine anyone else playing helmet.
Jack Black played the protagonist for a whole double fine game. I'm pretty sure they have him on speed dial
Hmm, it's not to me, considering brutal legends exists. Also made by the same studio, Where Jack is the main character. And if I'm not mistaken I think Jack once said he would be all in for a brutal legends 2 if Tim ever wanted to make it.
there's actually a reference to brutal legends in the game if you use Clairvoyance on helmet where raz is dressed up like the main charter from that game

The game developers put a lot of heart and effort making this game and this scene. Seriously this shows how DoubleFine really care about making their games.
Damn I just realized the significance of the “at the bottom of a lake of frozen feeling” line, Helmut ‘died’ when he drowned under a sheet of ice. Damn.

Yup, and he was essentially in suspended animation, after which he had absolute sensory deprivation, so his feelings were “frozen”
I noticed he Dance with the one that represents Bob
And that is just so cute and adorable
What I mean is that he didn't dance with ANYONE except audie O, and along with that audie O is the only one he didn't need to find to remember, he remembered vision cuz he was right in front of him but Audie O
In addition to this, I noticed in one of Ford’s memories Bob and Helmut are sitting together.
This is probably the best accurate depiction of living with PTSD. You can be feeling the best like PSI King was during the performance but a flashback can happen out of nowhere.
That's one of the best aspects of these games; They are amazing at depicting mental problems in the form of explorable 3D environments, the immediate example is the ever-popular Milkman Conspiracy from PN1

We needed games to show mental illnesses and climate change, psychonauts did perfect example of PSTD

Sight: Ford’s the first to see his brain but forgotten it when he altered his psyche
Smell and Taste: You cannot live one without the other - Cassie and Compton cannot work mentally without each other.
Touch: Otto’s the first to find his brain after being forgotten and tossed it into the collection.
Hearing: Bob’s understanding and full listening to Helmut and his stories, leading to the love for each other. Communication and Hearing for his lover.
Either the symbolism got too subtle for my dumb baby brain to understand or my dumb baby brain is too stupid to understand the symbolism
Otto is very big into creating new things, so it makes perfect sense that he's touch. His hands are his tools, but he also tends to put objects before people in terms of his affection.

Plus, given that Helmut is a musician, it definitely seems like sound would be the most important one to him.

Poor little memory vault, I hope it's ok. It looked like it went limp after maligula got out.
The game is technical marvel. I can't think of a game that has pulled off psychedelic visuals like this before. This entire level was a trip.
I felt like they could've been a bit more creative when it came to level design. I'm playing right now and it's feeling bland.

@@tubby_1278 The first two levels are a teeth office and hospital gambling house… if your saying level design then even that is creative to a large degree with levels focusing on either new powers or unique mechanics (see hospital level for the teleporting power and the cooking level)

I was bored af of games and platform games since Mario odyssey came out I beat this game in 2 and a half days addicted the entire time in awe of the creativity and how they use mental illness and display it in a artistic format to the story that I was bummed when it ended and wished for more all I would change is better combat and more intense final boss and bosses

Right! I went to the extras menu expecting to find it but it wasn’t there 😢
I imagine the main reason this feature isn’t included, is unlike the original game where the cut scenes were pre-rendered. This game the cut scenes are all rendered in real time. Meaning if there was a cut scene selector it would take significantly more work to implement as it has to load up the level to the start of a specific cut scene, unlike the original game where all it had to do was play a video file.

@@Pendleton115 Yeah, plus, in a modern age like now, it's easy to find all the cutscenes online for a game
What's even more impressive about this cutscene is that it is rendered in real time (like all cutscenes in the game). It's not prerendered like the cutscenes of the first game. And I am really impressed about this. It must have been a pain to pull off, but it was totally worth it.
Omg, the amount of assets for this must've been humongous. No wonder they had to push back the release date

I finally got around to playing Psychonauts 2 and now this song is just a permanent fixture in my brain. Should have known Jack Black wouldn't disappoint.

Its a work of art. A love letter 💌 to the 1960s era of music.
This game was a masterpiece in terms of writing, visual story telling and level design. An absolute joy to play through and through.
Like seeing this and then bobs level had me dying in tears for straight hour

one thing i loved about this level* is that when i first entered i thought the reveal would be that it was bob zenotto's brain, seeing figments of him in the level sort of reinforced that for me but then there's the reveal that it was this guy (forgot his actual name) and that the reason why there's so many figments of bob is because they were/are lovers, it was really amazing, this game is honestly so special and wonderful
*it's very likely that the "twist" was me picking on the wrong clues and that they didn't intended it this way but still was very surprising at the reveal lol

I love the other members of the band, there's a lot to pick apart there :)
Spoilers below, take care
"Vision Quest" is Ford Cruller, because he had the "vision" of bringing together the rest of the Psychic Six
"Dr. Touch" is Otto Mentalis, a dude who's very in "touch" with his feelings and "hands on" with his work, embodying those emotions into his inventions
"Tasty" is Compton Boole, and based off his granddaughter's enjoyment with making pancake's and his own mental landscape being a cooking show I think we can assume Compton has a real love for food and cooking and has good "taste" with both.
"Sniffles" is Cassie O'pia, both because as a writer she likely spent her free time with her nose stuck in a book and because she was Compton's partner. Scent and Taste go hand-in-hand, and in fact without smell one loses the ability to taste anything.
Finally "Audie O" is Bob Zanotto, Helmut's lover. His talent is "listening" to the voices of plants, yes, but also as the one with a romantic interest in Helmut Bob probably spent a *lot* of time just listening to Helmut's performances!
Also you cannot have smell without taste and vice versa, as stated in another comment from this same video, this is probably also in reference to the fact Cassie and Compton are dependent on one another, especially on Compton's part.

What a great level this was. I kind of spoiled for myself who the brain belonged to by accident way early into the mission. I used the Pyro ability to burn the memory vaults that were behind bars and normally, you should only be able to open them with the clone ability that you get late-game but I managed to cheese it because of my maxed Pyro haha

He is an actual musician, and lead singer of Tenacious D, so having him sing a song makes sense and would be a total waste of talent if he never did it.

There is another Brutal Legend Easter egg, if you use clairvoyance on Helmut, he will see Raz wearing the outfit Eddie Riggs wore in that game.

This level was probably my favourite level in the game, the visuals were so vibrant and the story of Helmut was really well done

I really loved the twist in the Psi King's story, I won't spoil it for anybody but damn... I sure hope this game gets an award at Game Awards.
Double Fine is an excellent team.
The audience is filled with clones of Nick, the guy whose body he's currently borrowing. I wonder if that means that when he was in his own body, he performed for a bunch of rainbow copies of himself.

Whereas many companies would have gotten cold feet and made a homosexual relationship "ambiguous" in this game the one where it's ambiguous whether there's some kind of romantic interest there is a hetero one, while Bob and Helmut being married is treated the same as it would if it were hetero.

@@SuperSwordman1 From my personal take, not a lot of people are over reacting because its just there and not really treated like anything special. Just like relationships should be. Them being romantically involved is not a personality trait, but just the norm, and as such treated that way.

@@DocPyro Meh I've seen it portrayed as normal, esspecially in children's media, but people still make SUCH A DEAL about it. Example, the 2017 Ducktales revealed that Violet has two dads. The comment section of a RUclips review was FULL of people asking why the reviewer didn't draw more attention to something that was largely a background detail.

I love how the art style reminds me of the Beatles' Nowhere Man song in the Yellow Submarine movie, yet for another type of music. I'm a bit more concerned at how few people do see or mention the hint.

The fact that this song is pretty much about the usage of LSD to assist with mental healing, it's.. absolutely beautiful. Even with mental healing like LSD, repressed memories WILL come up, but it's through pushing onwards, and also having a good friend group to help you, that actually it can really take care of those memories.

You know I remember playing and loving the first game, and finding it funny that this fictional secret agency of psychics shared a name with the nickname of all those 60’s electric coolaid types, “Psychonauts”. But this game brought it full circle.
Despite feeling like I took acid its a damn good tune.

Such a great game that many people won't play because Double Fine doesn't market their games well enough AND they decided it was a good idea to not have a physical release for this game for whatever dumb reason
They're still a small company. Physical releases and marketing can take a huge chunk out of profits.
@@jamesbrice3267 They're owned by Microsoft now and were given plenty of resources from Microsoft so they would be able to make this game to the extent they wanted. They had no reason not to do a physical release. They specifically chose not to do a physical release for some reason so only the figbackers got a physical version of the game because it was part of the promise when backing them
Maybe it's because the original Psychonauts didn't sell very well, didn't wanna risk spending a ton of money on physical copies in case that happened again. The first game didn't pick up traction until it was ported onto Steam many years later.
I backed the game from the start. Will be getting a physical PC copy as a backer reward.
