Having never played this game, it’s incredibly harrowing watching this supposedly teenage girl abuse and gaslight these animals like a terrible parent. I was not prepared.
This. I was getting very uncomfortable with the Fur Lancealot scene, but then it resolved just in time to make me absolutely explode with howling at the "sorry you had to see that" and Raz's face. While it certainly would be animal abuse if done in real life, in the context of this game - about mental health and trauma - this was an excellent metaphor for narcissistic, abusive parents, and I thank them for that.
The sequel is aimed at more mature fans, so it has quite a bit of black humor and mature themes. She's also part of the running joke where her younger brother would explode the heads of squirrels because he believed they talked about him behind his back. Of the siblings, she's the more evil of the two. Dogen is just an unstable paranoid with too much power who lashes out at perceived persecutors and bullies. This girl's behavior is her personality, and it's not caused by some kind of delusional break with reality. I feel like you could actually teach Dogen that his paranoid fantasies are just that and then help ease him along with meds. Sam however? Well it's very hard to convince people to change their personalities. Especially if what they're doing is already "working" for them and doesn't cause them personal anguish or problems with their life skills. She was probably born with her empathy completely missing. And you don't really "fix" these people so much as convince them that their rational self interest lies in upholding the social contract, maintaining some face and not being a jerk. You can't get them to care about other people except on an intellectual level. I listened to a psychopath talk about World of Warcraft and she framed her list of friends and getting free stuff as an _accomplishment_ in gaming the social system. The rest of us normies don't look at things that way. We just like hanging out and it doesn't cost so much to toss a few party favors or gifts your way. For us, the friendship is its own emotional reward, not some potential asset we can make use of later.

Not since Richard Horvitz's lone role in the DCAU in ‘02 has one of his characters delivered lines this emotionally-packed. It really shows off his versatility.
she's right about expiration dates. most can goods are good up to 5 to 10 years but usually they set the expiration date to the shortest amount of time the food can be stored which is around 2 years and yes it is so they don't get sued. also adding dirt and saw dust to food was how they expanded how filling the food was during times of food shortage and during war where food was harder to come by.
The voicelines for this game are godtier u can tell they're all having a blast lol. Sam's VA does a great job but i can hear Sakura from naruto so much from her voice must be the same VA
Raz seems like the kinda guy who I i could sit down with and have a serious talk about my problems, but also the kinda person I could goof off with and just hang out
