Have to say it: chicago fire along with chicago pd and chicago med are my favorite shows of all time. In all three shows, they have specialists all day on set, they have trainings after the shootings, they work very hard to make it seem as real as possible, in all three shows. Love them, they deserve more recognition.

On Chicago Fire, the character District Chief Steve Walker is played by a real retired CFD District chief who advises them and Tony on Squad 3 is also a real firefighter. The actors all went through some real training with CFD advisors too. I know it's a drama show so they have to raise the drama a little from real life so I don't mind that, but they don't always have non stop action. They spent a whole episode last season on false alarms and how they cause harm and another episode on how firehouse closures and cutbacks negatively affect the community, so I really like that. Also Dr Quinn was one of my favorite shows as a kid, glad it got a mention.

For those interested, there is an even more accurate show when you look internationally:
"Feuer und Flamme" from the german tv-station WDR. (You can find most of the content on RUclips)
The show consist of a real fire departement (firefighters + paramedics) in Germany, equipped with Go Pros filming real emergencys, often times from a first person perspective. Furthermore the troop comments on the footage themselves, explaining whats happening and why and there is no dedicated narrator.
Its really good production value and highly interesting, especially to compare how a different country does emergency services.

  • @johnharris6655

Some facts that made Emergency real1) The guy who played Mike Stoker, was actually Mike Stoker, a real La County FD Engineer. LA County was not going to let some actor driver the truck, so Stoker had a SAG card so he got hired to drive the truck. At first he had no lines but in later seasons he actually has more speaking parts. The Captain in the first Season was a real LA County Fire captain. Name another show with a real firemen in the cast. Stoker retired a captain with La County. 2) Ron Pinkard, Dr.Morton was a real Navy Corpsman who nearly went to medical school but went into acting. He retired as a Commander from the Naval reserve and said he could do most of the medical stuff on the show. He said Robert Fuller, Bobby Troup and Julie London would ask for him for advice to make sure they were doing it right. 3) R. A CInader, the producer told his writers that every rescue had to come from a fire department log, it did not have to be from LA County but it had to be from a fire department somewhere. At first the writers did not like that but when they started reading logs they said they could not make this stuff up.

Also, Randolph Mantooth and Keviin Tighe both attended paramedic training, and by all accounts did well. If they had actually sat for the tests, they would have been qualified, except that neither had been to the firefighters academy.

@@joedeschamps2436 When the show was over the Chief of LA County fire asked Mantooth if he wanted to join the department as a real firefighter. He said he would have to do through training but once that was done the Chief would get him a job. Mantooth said that was the highest compliment anyone had ever paid him. He turned it down telling the chief he was an actor and did not want to take a job from a real firefighter. He also said he could do more good as an actor going around and speaking up for Firefighters and the Paramedic program.

I remember coming home from my first EMT-B class and watching the pilot of Trauma and starting to yell at the TV for things going wrong. Gonna join the crowd that says Emergency should be number 1. I've known a lot more people in the First Responder community who know of Johnny and Roy than have ever heard of Saved. Granted the low episode count may have something to do with that, but Emergency is the Gold Standard. Also I laughted my butt off with the Baywatch honorable mention.
