I think Ventress's humor is one of the biggest reasons we love her so much. As much as I love Clone Wars (and I do!) it's a bit humorless compared to the movies, especially the OT.

I thought the episode was fine but a bit anti-climatic. It would have got a bigger reaction out of me if they hadn't spoiled her return in the trailer. Imagine if Ventress just showed up alive out of no where with a yellow lightsaber without any of us knowing or expecting it. We would have been going crazy today.

Omega really doesn't need to be force sensitive, just like Sabine didn't either. According to Artorr, Dark Desciple was supposed to be 8 episodes. The Clone Wars had 52 episodes in production after The Lost Missions. 13 Conventional arcs by Season 5 standards. Ultimately 3 got made when Season 7 aired. Bad Batch on Kashyyyk, Crystal Crisis, Son of Dathomir, Sith Shrine (Ahsoka focused under the Temple), and Dark Desciple (which was double length) plus a few more. Artorr has great documentary/review content and just released his Jedi Survivor video. He took off with a 3 part series on the Clone Wars: Legend, Brilliance, and Legacy, focusing on the Movie/S1, S2-6, and post cancellation media thru S7.

@Wyr_111 That wasn't an option. No Lucas, wanting to move on, budget, and the fact that some of these stories had been told in other mediums were all factors. Ultimately, they were given 12 episodes or 3 arcs: The Bad Batch, Ahsoka's Walkabout, and the Siege of Mandalore. An arc about Rex and the Clones, an arc about Ahsoka and her new perspective on the galaxy and the Jedi, and an arc that combines the two to form a compelling series finale during Revenge of the Sith. We may get shreds of the missing arcs in future stories like Tales of the Jedi, but when a series comes back from the dead, you take what you can get because the alternative is to get nothing.

Agreed with the sentiment. To me, this episode felt like a pilot episode to a spin-off. Asajj's VA said this is just a tease for what to come. Also, I could see the reamining Bad Batch die (or at least some of them) in a final confrontation freeing the remaining clones or sacrificing themselves for Omega, while Omega goes on to travel and train with Ventress in the epilogue

    • @qwefg3

Sounds like the basic Disney formula these days.
Do not pay attention to a series... it becomes good... turns around and notices the series is getting popular and people enjoy it... proceed to insert new female lead, new female powers, and get rid of or kill off the male cast.
Then have the females get all the powers and watch as the quality of the writing goes down along with viewership and people caring about the show.
I had enjoyed Bad Batch and enjoyed it for how it did things like classic star wars... showed some rather nice twists (no clone care and evil empire army funding obtained) and then when you didn't expect it... really and I mean struck you hard with hard hitting episodes as every Crosshair episode was both a treat and something to dread as you see how much worse things can get.
Then we get the legendary M-count... Project Necromancer... and now Ventress coming in to teach Omega how to be a jedi.
The episode wasn't exactly bad per say... it was just... predictable in an annoying way... and leaves me worried for the future of this series I had enjoyed rather than being excited for the next episode as I am starting to predict... a predictable story that isn't very good.

This episode was fine but Star Wars stories are increasingly repetitive. A young person who doesn't understand the galaxy (Luke/Ashoka/Omega/Ezra/Rey) becomes a Jedi. They lose a mentor (Ben/Anakin/Tech/Kanan/Luke), befriend a non-sentient (R2/R2/Becher/Chopper/BB8), and are surprisingly helped by a former foe (Vader/Hondo/Asajj/Fulcrum/Hux). The Ashoka series is already starting to follow this pattern too. I wouldn't be surprised if Captain Enoch turns out to be a good guy.

I'm continually impressed by the maturity of Bad Batch as a show. I feel like it's explored a lot of themes and questions within the lore that have gone untouched, particularly when it comes to the tragedy of the clones and the rise of the Empire's military philosophy. It honestly feels the closest to Andor out of all the other SW material, which is pretty impressive for a show originally advertised as a sequel/spin-off to the often goofy Clone Wars series. I really hated this episode, Ventress had a perfect end to her story and there was literally no reason for her to come back, she literally died, here is the end of the novel Dark Disciple so everyone can see it:
"He gave a shaky breath. He had thought he would dread this moment, but he was surprised to feel more a sense of serene peace than pain. This was what had to be done, and he knew it deep in his bones. Slowly, reverently, he raised his arms as if he were holding Ventress in them. Her body rose into the air in response. Vos held her in the Force over the still, dark lagoon and lowered her gently. Little by little, the black waters closed over her, receiving her in their embrace. His face was the last of his body to disappear, pale and with an expression of serenity that she had never known in life.
Flicker. The water...was it changing color?
Wisps of mist began to rise, green and bright. Green, like the magic of Dathomir that Ventress had spoken of; green, just like the Water of Life. Vos caught your breath. Soft whispers reached his ears, sounding almost like...
Kenobi was immediately at his side, his lightsaber unlit, but ready in his hand.
    -Vos, what is happening?
Little by little, with some disbelief, Vos understood. His heart ached with bittersweet joy.
"Listen," was the only thing he said.
Kenobi's eyes widened. He also heard, at that moment, the whispers of women's voices. The Force had recovered his wayward daughter from Dathomir, and as Vos reached out to send the woman he loved a final farewell, he thought he could make out a single word: "sister." Asajj Ventress had finally returned home."
(It's a google translation from the spanish version, so it's probably not the same as the english book)
It's literally a perfect ending for her and its very clear that shes's dead.
They could've used other character for the episode, but they wanted Ventress for no reason, Vos could have been a good choice, even Baylan could have worked, but no, they decided to use a character that didn't need a continuation to her story and had a very good end.

I'm thinking Omega's M count is low, but it doesn't reject midichlorians. So with enough of them in her blood she could be made Force sensitive. That would make her valuable to the Emperor, as they could just make clones of Omega. How that fits into Project Necromancer I don't know.

    • @Revkor

people are forgeting a key thing here. the Emporer wants to clone his body since the fight with mace left scars plus he old. Omega is a near copy of jango with boba being an exact copy. Jango manage to kill 6 jedi which got Dooku's attention. so while not force senitive he likely has a high count for a non force sensitive but the key thing is Omega likely does not have a degraded M count. all the other clones minus her and Boba likely have lower m coutns then jango but those two do thus the Emperor can clone himself and transfer his essence into the clone. Old Republic stories say that bane learn this technque and took over his students body. but the technic lost to time. Palps perhaps found it and is adapting it to his plan

Plus since the Kenobi series proved that people can survive being stabbed in the chest/gut by a lightsaber, it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to assume Ventress survived Dooku's Lightning.

Palpatine has been working secretly with the Kaminoans on this project for a while. Nala Se was unable to produce and exact clone of Palpatine but was able to successfully splice his genes with their existing template to produce a viable candidate with a high midi-chlorian count. Either somehow Nala Se developed a bond with Omega, or she understood the gravity of this development and hid it. Or, perhaps this was a secret experiment by the Kaminoans for a potential bargaining chip with Palpatine. Omega will continue to evade capture for many years until she settles down with a spouse and has a daughter--Rey.

Also didn’t she get a shout out in live-action in the Ahsoka series?

My main problem with this is simple: If the book seemingly leaves Ventress dead or assumed to be dead but somehow revived because 'woOoOoOoOoO spooky green mists in the waters SpoOoOoky', then you better bring her back for something good. Otherwise, why bother? You'll only tarnish the memory of said character or even worse, ruin it.
This episode, while good on its own right, I don't think really justified bothering bringing her back. If she appears more later on then perhaps, but it better be worth it. It also doesn't help one bit that Disney just *WON'T FUCKING STOP WITH THE CAMEOS ALREADY* for fuck sake, if there's cameos nonstop then they stop being significant in any way. Look at Mando season 1 and then Mando season 2, you'll notice the huge difference in cameos - and some of those cameos (like Ashoka) don't serve as much of a use to the plot other than bringing new info and being blatant fanservice. Boba was good on season 2 tho, that one at least was foreshadowed in the first episode of the season.

The reason I make that connection was the meeting between Omega and young Hera Syndulla towards the very end of Clone Wars. That, in my opinion, was a "Chekhov's Gun" sort of moment. I believe for the tales of the jedi season 2 they'll adapt the Dark Disciple arc and explore Ventress more, now that people are interested in what happened to her before the bad batch.

Definitely an old canon guy over the new stuff, but I did read Dark Disciple and I did enjoy it; I've always liked the character of Ventress and I'm glad they're doing more with her.

    Here’s my take on this
For me I never read the dark disciple and for all I knew she just hasn’t been around since the clone wars and missed her cause it’s been forever since I’ve heard about her and was happy when I saw her in the trailer but now that I know about what actually went down with her in the book I kind of like this more because I’m very interested in her motivations because clearly she’s up to something and I wanna see more of her

hoping we hear soon what the next series is going to be. could it continue bad batch/rex/echo adventures and how they eventually intersect with ghost crew on that walker? or do we get something completely new story era and characters? what about a show in the Mando era or jump back to high republic?

This is strange. Isn't it a fact from the novel Dark Disciple that she took a lethal blast from Dooku's force lightning meant for Quinlan Vos? Or her appearance in TBB a retcon?

guess I'm with the few who are glad Ventress is fine and doing well, Also I like she schooled the naive deserters(TBB). I guess its like a high level deserter meets a group of low level deserters.

I like Asajj as a character. That being said, I think it's another example of Filoni/Lucasfilm disregarding canon stories in order to make a splash for their "bigger" projects. Seems like Omega could have found out about m-count from some other source other than bringing someone back from the dead (again!) - just lazy writing. And overall, considering her use in the trailer, her appearance here is kind of a let-down.

Might the dark disciple story end up in an anthology series later on, ala tales of the jedi?
