      Other than what the previous two comments have said, there's a difference between anti-gravity and gravity propulsion technology which I suspect is the key difference here. Anti-gravity being something that nullifies the effects of gravity without necessarily pushing down (or well, probably having a relatively weak fan or thruster if they don't have some other method of propulsion) to allow them to move around whilst ignoring the influence of gravity. Hence why repulsorcraft aren't able to go orbital, because once they've left the atmosphere, they don't have the 'external propellant' source needed to move themselves around once gravity is countered.
      Then the gravity propulsion in the example you mention isn't so much negating or nullifying gravity but instead it's generating a gravity wave that pushes away anything below it. At which point, Newton's Laws applies to whatever is generating the gravity wave whilst whatever gets hit has to deal with the fact something very heavy likely just put all it's weight on it. So 'warning, nothing fragile below' doesn't apply because instead it's 'warning: nothing that can't withstand a proximity bomb blast goes below if you want it intact'.

    A real life counterpart to the hover tank as far as tactical advantages go is the Stridsvagn 103, my personal favorite tank. It's a turretless design with a ridiculously low profile and short wheelbase which makes it hard to hit and extremely maneuverable, originally designed with the intention of fighting in dense Swedish forests in order to go places where enemy tanks just can't go. With the gun being hard bolted to the chassis to give the crew room to breathe, it used an advanced suspension system in order to aim the gun.

    • @commandoepsilon4664
      @commandoepsilon4664 4 месяца назад +9

      I believe the reason the gun was mounted like that was so the driver could also be the gunner, that way they can field more tanks with less people, it also has an auto loader so each Strv 103 only needs a single crew member to operate, though it was made to accommodate three and a full crew is obviously preferred.

    • @HATECELL
      @HATECELL 4 месяца назад +1

      Also since repulsor-driven vehicles can sidestrafe they overcome the Strv103's biggest weakness, its inability to fire on the move. I'm not sure whether repulsors are precise enough to provide the necessary accuracy, but in the worst case they at least allow you to orient the gun in the right direction while still moving

    • @TheWhiteDragon3
      @TheWhiteDragon3 4 месяца назад +2

      @@HATECELL It was found with targeting technology at the time that any tank had to come to a full stop in order to reliably hit its target anyways

      @@commandoepsilon4664 maybe, but the fact that the gun breach doesn't require interior space for elevation angles, removing the necessity for elevating a turret roof and decreasing space usage generally, thus decreasing the area that needs to be armored made it lighter, dofficult to hit and also easier to conceal. that the autoloader didn't have to accomodate for changing gun positions, thus allowing a simpler, smaller autoloader to achieve higher rates of fire is the other design aspect that I think is more relevant than the lesser crew requirements. having a hunter-killer system already made the tank so close to being one man operable that it made sense to make it that way for redundancy, allowing the tank to operate in high capability even if one targeting system was damaged or a crew member incapacitated

      Earning sponsorship or investment from external power is always an option if not the biggest card on the table deck.
      Depending on circumstances, smaller powers can benefit from the rivalry of bigger factions. The larger polities may like a buffer zone so as to keep their respective economies strained and may even let slip 'a few donations' to help keep the smaller ststes intact.
      There are also the industries around shipbuilding to consider. Salvage and shipbreaking can provide immense insight into how more advanced designs work. Mind you, it's not the ship size but how their used that matters.
      Aircraft are seen as huge threat depsite the size difference with battleships, and submarines are lethal so long as their not spotted. A smaller factions with smaller economies stand to profit from having smaller, wolf pack oriented fleets than a grand armada.

    The Imperial S1 Firehawke was quite a good tank, and served the imperial army well, as seen with the infamous Hell's Hammers Elite. It is quite underrated imo.
    Hovering 2m above the ground, it was well protected and fast. Faster than a saber (400km/hr). All while mounting a long range heavy laser / mass driver. (5km range).
    For comparison, the ATTE's mass driver only has a range of 2 km...
    It had a medium blaster cannon for infantry with a decent range and firing arc.
    the main gun was mobile and accurate enough to target low flying starfighters / airspeeders with relative ease, as seen on Turak IV.
    Eventually, it got replaced by the imperial 1H tanks, which retained practically the same capabilities...

Such as a track breaking, needing lots of gears for accelerations or different sprockets. Wheels being easy targets. Suspensions and spring works. Hills being a trouble. Instead they glide, and thrusters could be attached to them, which gives them very high speed.

    • @ferdinandhumperdinck165

      Quite simple, really.
      It would have somewhere between 12 and 20 Quantum State Communication Devices, Unblockable by ANYTHING, be somewhere between 7 and 9km long, slimmer than normal, with extendable VERY long ranged and fine tuned senso arrays, and carry say 3-4 frigates or gunships and at least 3 prototype/Special fighters and another 6 normal ones.
      Weaponwise it would have less actual firepower but more diverse weaponry, to use the right one for every opponent.
      In short: Computer and Sensor Power and Weapon mix above raw Firepower or shields.
      Faster than normal though.
      For an RPg,I once designed one as follows:
      14 Turbolaser Batteries (As SD), 12 Ion Cannons, 3 full length of the Ship (eg 9km) Gravity reducing Mass Driver,l 8 Ship Destroyer Missile Launchers, each 8 Tubes, from MIORV to specialized Missiles, 16 Improved targetting Ion cannons, and 3 Assault Frigates, 4 Tie Interceptor, 3 Tie Bomber, 2 Tie Scout and 3 Special (TM) F9ghters .

    Honestly as silly as a repulsorlift blimp sounds, would be excellent as a imperial surveillance/mobile atmospheric staging platform for policing in occupied systems. Large size provides a lot of "Big brother is watching you" presence if you keep a number of them hovering around and you could stock it up with a large number of recon droids to buzz around and even attach smaller repulsorlift craft for rapid overhead response, use the large size of it for redundant lift systems to make it difficult to actually take down without Highly destructive means and park them over civilian populations so any attempts could mean wide spread disaster to local innocents. Could have offered the imperials a great tool in imperials helping prevent and stopping rebel cell activities.

    The later Imperial repulsorlift that came to mind immediately (from Legends) was the Chariot Light Assault Vehicle - gets a mention in a few of the books, is illustrated in atleast one of the Essential guides - iirc it was typically used in a fashion not dissimilar from real world light IFVs - some as command vehicles, others operating as battle taxis for infantry.

    Repulsorlifts are one of 3 key features that would bring our technology to par with Star Wars. Think about it - with low power repulsor lifts (which are also able to let spaceship hover over cities in the athmosphere) anything from speeders to mining platforms hovering over holes in the ground to spaceship that can reach orbit is possible. After that one only needs fusion power to fuel the ion drives of spaceships to reach other planets and moons and then of course hyperdrive to reach other star systems - the latter did not exist in the Star Wars Galaxy for quite a long time in recorded history though)

    the most important factor is that it is no longer as restricted to roads for strategic movement. battles and logistics are restricted by road networks due to soft and/or non-flat terrain slows down all ground vehicles. repulsor vehicles ignore this limitation which gives them a degree of flexibility that basically changes the dynamic of warfare. there is no position that can not be by-passed. there is no definitive route that can be shelled or mined or cut-off to deny enemy logistics.
    this also true of civilian vehicles, as repulsor lift is shown to be cheap and common amongst civilains. Meaning proper roads are going to be relatively rare outside of settlements as they are expensive investements that are not really used outside of pedestrian travel. this makes tracked, wheeled and legs an even bigger disadvantage strategically than if these techologies were compared on current day earth.

    Here's my Armor division strategy based on the new US organization:
    2 Armored brigades made of 3 combined arms battalions (CAB) of ATTEs and ATRTs (Like US CABs with M1 Abrams and Bradley IFVs) and 1 Armored cavalry troop in Marauder ITTs escorted by TX-130 repulsor tanks.
    AND
    1 ITT brigade made of 3 ITT battalions which use ITTs as strykers and Marauder ITT like the US stryker mobile guns systems as fire support. This gives us a combination of walkers and repulsors.
    We then of course have division artillery, support, engineers, military police, and aviation brigades. I would use a mix of republic and imperial artillery vehicles, UTATs to transport engineers, Speeders and ATRTs for military police, and Tie-Stryker airspeeders for my aviation. Of course we would also be able to call starfighter or naval support for close-air-support or naval-gunfire support but having dedicated in-atmosphere air support attached to our ground forces would be beneficial.
    Heavier divisions could replace the ITTs with an additional armored brigade or a division armored cavalry.
    I have ideas for lighter infantry division as well from dismounted jet trooper/airborne, mounted light infantry in Arrow-23 speeders, and ITT divisions. All supported by ATRTs for anti infantry and TX-130s for anti vehicle support, as well as Arrow-23 speeder and ATRT scouts.

    Hover tanks have there role in star wars but, walkers and tracked tanks to so it was kind of cool seeing the CIS inparticular incorporate varitey in real life.

    The most interesting repulsorcraft, to me, is the HAET-221: a repulsorcraft that was launched from orbit by the likes of a cruiser and served as a very fast and very well armed drop ship/gunboat as well as a surveillance and reconnaissance craft. What is interesting to me is we only ever see it in Revenge of the Sith, during the Utapau campaign and it took me a very long time to find out what "the thing with the search light when they're looking for Kenobi" was.

    If they're really low maintenance and fuel efficient, I'd say it's good enough. I think it needs some way to anchor into the ground when it wants to though. Something like that can be useful when you want the tanks to be a mobile wall.

    Snowspeeders had repulsorlift engines, but also ion thrusters, like many starfighters. T-16s were the same, but just had one ion thruster. They could reach low orbit

    7:57 "trucks"... in our age we call these "technicals". These are the Toyotas with a helo rocket pod mounted in the bed, or a larger lorry with a tank gun similarly mounted. You see some prime examples out of what used to be Libya.
    Repulsor lift technicals?

      It's a combination of multiple mods actually. As the editor I can tell you: I use the remastered mod, imprroved sides mod for the units, cross era battles and a few map ports and custom made maps depending on what I need for the video. In this case I believe it was Christophsis: Chaleydonia City from the Battlefront II Base Game Plus mod

    I mean tall walkers protect the crew from mines the same way a ladder would, yourself still about to fall 10's of feet in a metal can, refer to aircraft crashes to see how that usually works out. Star wars has some neat stuff, just don't dig too much into the military or technology if you're aware of them to any degree.

    I thought everything in the Star Wars galaxy that flies has reupholster lifts seeing how the majority of the things that fly are not arrow dynamic. Tie fighters, even stars destroyers and the separatist landing crafts. The speeder bikes you see in the clone wars in battles you also see flying on coruscant flying instead of just hovering. I could be entirely wrong though.
