      One of major flaws of the Jedi of Ruusan Reformation era is that they pretended that all Jedi stop being mortal flawed creatures when they joined the Order. They spent all their time denying human/sapient nature, rather than teach how to deal and over come their worst aspects. Image how different the Order would have been if the Jedi taught its members how to love and care for someone. While also teaching that feelings like attachment are normal and healthy. But can lead to selfishness if one is not taught how to love and care for another. That one falls to dark side when they give up on trying to not let positive feelings turn dark and selfish.

    Dooku being manipulated by Sidious into turning to the Dark Side was a tremendous loss to the Jedi Order.
    Dooku's new master was responsible for his former apprentice's death, and yet he still became Sidious's pawn.
    It's tragic because he finally sees Sidious for what he really is just moments before Anakin kills him.

      There is actually signs Dooku knew but also was disillusioned with the Jedi Order and the Republic. He was playing Sudius' game and looking for a chance to betray him. He just wasn't as savvy as Sidius with manipulation and got out maneuvered. Ultimately Dooku was too confident in his abilities and had no allies as all he had were removed from play.

    Palpatine's ego destroyed the Sith Order. Instead of raising a proper apprentice who would one day overthrow him, therefore ensuring the line would outlive him, he tried to play God and created a line of clones so that he could rule forever. That led to his apprentice predictably overthrowing him, the Sith spirits not helping him when his clone bodies got poisoned, and him dying at the hands of the Skywalkers on Onderon in Dark Empire, and nobody was left to inherit the Sith mantle outside of Lumiya, someone who was barely trained to be a Sith thanks to the limitations of the Rule of Two.

    Movie Dooku and Clone Wars Dooku always seemed like two different characters to me. There was a degree of honor to movie Dooku, and a sense that he might have even regretted his path, necessary as it may have felt to him. Clone Wars Dooku was a cold, pragmatic individual, thinking himself above everyone and seemingly eager to harm or betray anyone at the slightest provocation.

      Dooku was onboard with Palpatines plan. He wanted an authoritarian (and racist) empire as much as Palpatine did. The only part he didn’t know of was that he would be betrayed.

    Yoda took on Dooku as apprentice, breaking his own rule, and convention as Grand Master for two reasons: 1) Dooku was quite powerful even as a Youngling. He was so skilled with the lightsaber, that he actually held his own in a duel as a Youngling against Master Lene Kostana after Dooku mistakenly accused her of being a Sith Lord. Yoda believed that only he could guide to maturity such a powerful Force User. 2) Yoda saw in Dooku more than sheer ability as a warrior. Dooku was extremely intelligent and aware of the Force in ways others weren't. Dooku had an immense intellectual curiosity in general, and in the esoteric aspects of the Force and Dark Side in particular. Yoda saw in him a potential Grand Master whose capability in the Force and ability to command respect was head and shoulders above his peers. So, Yoda quietly groomed him to replace him. However, as Dooku matured he became even more independent and unorthodox. Once Dooku became a Knight, Yoda had learned to allow Dooku to forge his own path, hoping Dooku might eventually behave more conventionally. For a time it seemed that way when Dooku served on the Jedi Council. But Dooku's restless mind and endless thirst for knowledge and interest in the Dark Side, coupled with a very pronounced idea of justice, led Dooku away from the Jedi.

      Yeah, but that was in front of Yoda, his sworn enemy who stands in stark contrast to Sidious ideology. Next the dream of Anakin's potential as successor also goes down the lava drain. Then as he had won the struggle against the Jedi and had the Empires resources at his disposal, he could go down the route of his other bigger dream of becoming an immortal god.
      By Ep 9 Rise of Skywalker, his quest at immortality has basically died with Snoke and he had resigned him self to his fate of being succeeded, he did not care by whom as long as they were a dark sider and he could ride in the backseat of their mind like all the other sith of the rule of two did in his.
      Then as he discovers the dyad in the force and is able to absorb it to restore himself, it's right back to being an immortal god that is his quest and he's instantly lost all interest in even having a successor. Next thing he knows he get's destroyed by Rey who had absorbed all the Jedi and Windus the force lightning right back at Sidious face.
      So his main goal seems to be immortality and being succeeded is just a secondary goal.

    There's a hella good fanfic, The Weaving Force (on AO3)--a crossover with that Worm webseries by Wildbow (may be known as Parahumans to some of you)--where Yoda is away when Dooku comes demanding answers for Qui-Gon's death, and this spirals out into Dooku learning the truth, staying with the Order to hunt the Sith (though he receives little to no support from them for this), and literally training Anakin!
    Seriously, it was this fic that made me appreciate Dooku's character and standing and power and just how critical he is in the story. Dooku not falling to the Dark Side is just the first major ripple effect that diverges the fanfic from canon, and it does him more justice than I knew he deserved.
    I know this is a little out of place but I have to take every opportunity to proselytize this fanfic for how damn well it does Dooku. He isn't even a central character per se, just a major supporting one, and it's beautiful.
    P.S. Christopher Lee was literally the real-life Dooku. The dude oozed charisma and dignity.

    Yoda and Palpatine had much to gain from Doku's death. Palpatine could deflect allegations of being a Sith lord while Yoda could get rid of an opponent who had knowledge of his tactics.
    Order 66 was done by soldier who did not listen to their feelings and killed the Jedi, whom they fought alongside.
    Fear of losing control was one of Yoda's weaknesses. He had the chance to let Anakin save Shmi. But since he feared that saving one's one mother from being ravaged by tuskans over and over, night after night was corrupting Jedi teachings of non attachement, he lost one very valuable ally in order to maintain an obedient Jedi.
    He started taking too much energy, brainwashing people into believing that caring for the ones we love is dangerous.
    Anakin wanted to save his mother, Shmi, while Yoda was attached to his followers, who he would place in positions of power and influence.
    Ultimately, the Senate had to choose over the Sith and Jedi. Many things were beyond the control of both Yoda and Palpatine. So perhaps both of them really feared Doku and were happy Anakin assassinated him. Doku could have hurt both of them if he gained influence in the Senate.

    Its even more interesting when considering that Darth Plagueis gave serious consideration to taking Dooku as a replacement apprentice in the event something went wrong with Sidious. Its actually kind of cool that Dooku basically caught the interest of the three most powerful force users of that time (Before Anakin) those being Plagueis, Yoda and Sidious, even if for completely different reasons. Actually, I sometimes wonder how things would've gone had Plagueis chosen Dooku as his apprentice instead of Palpatine and gave Dooku a proper education in the dark side (Not the half-ass crash course Sidious gave Dooku) I don't think Dooku would've betrayed Plagueis and the pair might've ended up in the roles of co-chancellor.

    The genius of Sidious was his multi-track plan to ruin the Jedi. Where other Sith favored a blunt approach, Plagueis and Sidious attacked them internally, politically and finally via proxies in combat. Turning Dooku was the Sith masterpiece. Dooku was rightly feared by both Plagueis and Sidious as the most dangerous Jedi. Not only due to his peerless swordsmanship and mastery of Force knowledge, second only to Yoda in both respects, but for his political ability centered on a reformist agenda. Dooku, had he become Grand Master, a position that was groomed for from the time he was a Padawan, would have rebuilt the Jedi to be more honorable and proactive against threats, and clarified its relationship with the Senate. The Sith would have had a much harder time under Grand Master Dooku. Plagueis had considered turning Dooku years before TPM, and indeed, thought very hard about replacing Sidious with him. When Sidious turned Dooku he turned the Jedi's greatest weapon against them. Many were pawns for Sidious; Dooku was a Queen on the chessboard able to inflict damage on so many levels. But, no matter how useful Dooku was to destroying the Jedi and democracy, again, once he served his purpose, he would be a liability. Even if Anakin had never existed, Dooku was still always going to be a dead man once Sidious had complete power. In the end, the Sith would have been better served had Plagueis killed Sidious and turned Dooku into his next apprentice. Between them they would have had a better relationship, the veil of the Force lifted by two mean obssessed with Force esoterica, and they still take over the Republic, this time with Dooku as Supreme Chancellor.

    The other issue I had with the Rule of 2 was that it made the Sith more vulnerable to having their line broken. One bad shuttle crash or a nasty brain aneurysm before the new master took on an apprentice and Pft! no more Sith

    • @wkadams88
      @wkadams88 Месяц назад +1

      Any two dark side users can make their claim to be THE Dark Lords of the Sith. The Rule of Two just makes it so that any competing claims must be dealt with. See the Clone Wars episodes where Maul makes his brother Savage into his apprentice, then challenges Sidious for the mantle of Dark Lord (only to fail utterly).

    • @hfar_in_the_sky
      @hfar_in_the_sky Месяц назад +3

      @@wkadams88 True. Any two dark side users could indeed make claim to be the Dark Lords of the Sith which would I suppose would explain how the Sith didn't go extinct from a sheer accident long ago.
      Although even there, it staggers me to think how much knowledge would be lost if/when the line was ever broken. Part of the advantage of a master/apprentice relationship is the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next. When an individual dies without passing on their knowledge to anyone else, that's a tremendous set back. In the Legacy continuity it took Luke years to reclaim much of what was lost during the Jedi Purge and he at time wonders if he would ever recover all of it within his lifetime.
      I always figured that was part of the reason why the Jedi flourished across the galaxy while the Sith almost went extinct multiple times. The Jedi shared their knowledge freely, thus their ideas and their ideals spread more easily. The loss of one Jedi was not nearly so devastating as the loss of one Sith.
      Also, before anyone goes "But Sith Holocrons!" yes, that is one way the Sith teachings could be passed along despite the destruction of the two current Sith Lords. BUT, Sith holocrons are notoriously even rarer than Jedi holocrons because A) the Sith, being the self centered and selfish bastards that they were, weren't as keen on sharing their knowledge with random yahoos, and B) the Jedi had a tendency to destroy any Sith holocrons they found on sight because they tended to, ya know, contain forbidden dark side techniques.

    • @wkadams88
      @wkadams88 Месяц назад +1

      @hfar_in_the_sky It is an inherent weakness in the Sith, yes. By hoarding their power and knowledge so jealously, they ensure that much of it will be lost. Still, even without the Rule of Two, Sith were killing each other and losing knowledge. One of the most memorable parts of KOTOR was Kreia narrating to your character on Korriban about the fates of the Sith Lords of old buried there, and all their accomplishments that no one after them ever learned again.
      Still, I would imagine that many of the Sith would view the lost knowledge as a challenge every Sith must face. They didn't learn the ways of the Force like the Jedi; their style was to bend the Force until it gave them what they wanted. That "blunt Force" approach may have led to many Sith discoveries.

    • @hfar_in_the_sky
      @hfar_in_the_sky Месяц назад

      @@wkadams88 I could see that. Probably another element that sets the Jedi and the Sith apart. The Sith starting over time and time again would mean they would always be finding new ways to do things, but they're constantly having to spend ungodly amounts of time reinventing the proverbial wheel. The Jedi in the meantime seem to become more sedentary in their beliefs and teachings due to seeking more peaceful times, but what they do learn and change doesn't take as much time or energy because they're building off of what came before rather than having to constantly rediscover lost techniques

    I still feel the prequels are terrible as far as storytelling goes. Even if the WHOLE thing is spelled out through games, books, comics, and animated shows but then do the movies in such a way that one doesn't necessarily need those other sources to make sense of it all. I just felt from beginning to end of the prequel saga its loaded with unexplained macguffins and we're just supposed to stand back and say how epic and awesome it is/was. Don't get me wrong. I generally like the prequels but I understand how ineffective and poorly done they were from the standpoint of things making sense.

    Yet Palpatine’s victory amounted to less than 20 years of Sith-led Imperial rule. Compared to the 25,000-ish rule of the Republic and the Jedi, that’s pretty pathetic.
    Makes all the Sith’s work a waste of time.

    The rule of 2 was always a flawed setting for me = over the long term there is an exponential chance of even the simplest of accidents, wiping out the entire order = basically NO backup plan master+apprentice+pawns; I doubt that the pawns could rebuild the order from scratch IF they would have known anything about being mere pawns ... more over ... lets take a real life life example = there are rules in the USA for example, when the top 3 persons (president, vice, speaker of the house) can be at the same place at the same time, and this setting is only for 8 years (4+4) ... so the setting sounds cool BUT it is a fatal flaw if you try put this thing into some sort of "realism" ...

    Plus you would never trust anyone enough to give them the skill to get anywhere near his.
    But worse, it didnt exist. Not only was there the awareness of the apprentice having an apprentice, but they had many inquisitors and force users under them. A prooer rule of 2 is NO FORCE USERS under sith.
