    Ah yes, the focus problem with the D7000 (and the D600 which is just a full frame D7000) Here is an easier method. I use a yard stick or a wide tape measure. Set up the yardstick at a 45 degree angle. Pick a focus point, say 11 inch mark. Take a photo and zoom in to check the fractional measurements around the focus point you selected to help fine tune the camera. It seems most of the D7000's have this problem and no firmware updates are able to address this as the problem lies in the amount of torque applied at the factory to the auto focus module mounting screw. (quality control ?) Knowing about this flaw in the manufacture can help get a used D7000 for cheap. Keep the videos coming.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад +1

      @Dominic Wroblewski That is defiantly a good method. Thanks for the tip. Yes I have two Nikon D7000's in the family and they both have the same problem. But with the focus tool in the camera it defiantly is a life saver for those stubborn lenses that won't focus. I wish a firmware update was available to fix this issue, but yes you are right it keeps this camera a reasonable price. So I'll take the menu focus tool any day for that reason, because overall this a great camera! Thank you for watching my vids. I really appreciate the feedback. I will! Take care.

    Hi Kris, I love watching your videos. I have the D610 and currently using my Af-s 50mm 1.8G as I just sold my old 80-200 f2.8 ED. I'm having with the Focusing using viewfinder as I can't get it focused to where I wanted to be or the subject isn't that sharp. When using live view mode. Everything seems fine. Is this normal?

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  10 месяцев назад

      @adrianeleguin4919 Hi! Wow! I really appreciate the support! Thank you! Well the viewfinder and the live view mode both have different focusing engines. One is completely digital using the sensor and the other one is more or less analog. First off, is your subject not sharp before or after taking the image? If its not sharp before, check your diopter setting located next to your viewfinder, try turning it to see if that helps. Next if fixing your diopter doesn't help try the AF fine tune setting by downloading and printing the sheet I provided in the description or use a book and try focusing on one specific line in the book only using the viewfinder with my directions in the video. The AF fine tune setting won't give you good results using live view mode unfortunately. Try adjusting the increments of focus a plus or minus notch and see if your subject becomes more in focus after you take your photo by previewing it on your camera. So from what I know about your situation, it sounds like it is either the diopter or the lens isn't communicating with your camera properly. Let me know. Thank you for reaching out and lets see if we can fix your camera issue.

    Thanks alot for this tutorial. Now i use a Nikon D7200, and kit lens 18-55mm,among other lenses. Ive been using it for 7yrs now without a hitch. I've always set the Auto focus on AFS. BUT lately its mis-judging focus such that I'll focus on a subject, but it will focus on the background leaving my subject on soft focus. Crazily, this is happening when I'm using the viewfinder, but when I use the LCD, its focusing fine. I've tried taking it to nikon centre for diagnosis..and they don't seem to understand the problem. First they talk of replacing the image sensor, then they say that the image sensor is fine, that we should replace the AF sensors. How can i resolve this.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад

      @shepherdthefilmmakeroffici445 You're very welcome! First off I would go ahead and try the AF Fine Tune adjustment if you haven't already. It sounds like to me that it might be the problem, because it sounds like something is out of calibration. Is it doing this with just one lens, or all of your lenses? Because it could be just the chip in the lens. It sounds like they aren't communicating. The AF modes on Live View and the viewfinder use a different AF system. The Viewfinder uses a type of AF called Phase detection autofocus. While Live View uses a type of autofocus called Contrast Detection Autofocus. Make sure when you use the AF fine tune adjustment, you use your viewfinder to calibrate your lens not Live view. Live view does not work with the AF fine tune adjustment, its specifically made for the viewfinder adjustment. I hope this helps you.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад +1

      @vimaldorjeelama7032 Hi, yes you would have to use the Fine Tune Auto Focus setting for all three lenses only if you are having focusing problems with a particular lens to begin with. If you aren't having an issue then don't use this feature. Some lenses are fine already. Once the Fine Tune is set, it should work for a while but I have heard of cases of the Fine Tune going out of calibration over time so keep that in mind. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask. Hope all is well.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад +1

      Hi @Pj Cardone. I have done a little bit of research because I don't own this camera. But from what I know you can't really enlarge the focus dot. However you can use the camera in Aperture Priority (A mode) or Manual (M mode) and use the single AF selection mode. This way you have a box to focus with rather than a dot. Also in your camera make sure that you have AF illumination turned on, so you can see it light up red in your viewfinder or when you are using LV (live view). I believe this camera has a pin point AF selection mode. Make sure you aren't using that when taking photos if you are I can see how that would be difficult to use. I hope this helps you. If you have anymore questions please let me know. Hope all is well.

    does this AF setting apply to football photos so that the image remains sharp...... because the d7000 is a problem in AF when sports photos look soft

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад +1

      @Photo_Sepatan The answer is yes and no... The D7000 has a hard time keeping up with a moving subject. I found that when panning with this camera make sure that you have your Af Fine Tune setup first, and then make sure that you have your focus on single point autofocus, where you select your focus point, and not full autofocus where your camera selects the focus point for your. I found this to work the best. When your D7000 is in full autofocus it is going to focus on everything else and hunt not your subject. Not as much as before, but it still will. Try practicing the panning shot on moving cars if you can. This can help you when you shoot photos at a football game. Note I myself have not taken football game photos with this camera. I have used it to take pictures of moving cars and bicyclist and it worked for me using a 28-105mm lens. I have talked to many who don't have autofocus problems at all, unfortunately Nikon produced very large batch of these cameras with this problem. The users that don't have problems with the autofocus on the D7000 are the lucky ones. I hope this info helps. If you need to know anything else please let me know. Hope all is well.

      @JoeJRLaw Sorry about the confusion. I was really new to RUclips at the time and still getting used to talking to a camera. But I hope this video helped you. Basically if you select a focus point for focusing on and your focus is way off after you take the photo then what you picked then calibrate your focus by adding or subtracting the focus value in the Fine Tune AF settings. 0 is where you start and where your problem is. Adding or subtracting your value will calibrate your focus accordingly. I have a link to a test sheet in the description that you can download and use, but a book works well also. If you have any questions let me know. Thank you for watching!

    Hey Kris. There is a Nikon D7000 with 50mm lens and a D5300 with 15-55mm and 50mm lenses for about same price.
    I need a camera for doing RUclips videos, which one should I go with?

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад

      @Tech Happens Thank you for the question. So first off I just want to state that I do not own the Nikon D5300, but I have done some research on it and watched videos that lead me to this conclusion. Both cameras are great for different purposes. I love the Nikon D7000 for photography because the sensor produces some of the nicest color and depth that I have seen from any Nikon. It also has a motor drive built into the camera which allows me to use older lenses that do not have a motor built in for autofocus. The D5300 does not have this feature so it limits you from using lenses, especially if they are older, that do not have a motor unless you want to use manual focus. The older lenses are great and inexpensive. That's if you want to eventually use your camera for photography. I for one do not use a Nikon DSLR for my RUclips content for some reasons. For one, the Autofocus on many lenses is way to loud especially on the Nikon D7000. It just picks up way too much noise on the microphone. Also on the D7000, the camera does not allow you to change the F stop while in live view or video mode, just the shutter speed. You have to turn off live view mode to change the F stop then turn it back on. Its just annoying. Now don't get me wrong it can capture some nice 1080p video especially if you are using it only on a tripod but it can be a hassle. Now as far as the D5300 goes, from what I can tell it is better equipped especially for RUclips. It has an articulating screen that allows you to see yourself while you are filming, which is great because you can check your focus and exposure and to make sure you are in the frame. It also has WIFI so you can upload right to your phone if you want to do a RUclips short or take a quick snap. It has better microphone capabilities and from what I can tell you can change your aperture and exposure on the fly. So in my opinion it is a better choice if you want to just use this for RUclips. Now that being said both cameras have an autofocus hunting problem. I believe more so the D7000 then the D5300. Now again I don't own the D5300 but from the videos that I have watched most D5300 users have to use manual focus so they don't have this problem. You also want to make sure that when you get the 18-55mm lens that if has the silent wave motor built in. I believe the is lens will say AF-S on it. This helps with focus noise. Also I highly recommend you buy a wireless mic system. Rode makes a nice one that allows you to keep a distance from the camera so you can limit any autofocus noise if you so wish to use the autofocus. I really hope this helps you in making a decision on what to pick, I personally use Sony ZV-1 but they just came out with a new version called the ZV-1F which in my opinion is a perfect choice for content creation for RUclips. Take care!
      Kris

    • @Tech_Happens
      @Tech_Happens Год назад

      @@Kris_World I have to get that wireless mic for sure, audio is everything. Also I didn't know AF-S lenses can solve the noise problem, if this one doesn't have it, I'll try to find one.
      Thank you so much for taking your time to clarify this to me ❤️.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Год назад +1

      @Tech Happens Audio is everything. When you do get a wireless mic, make sure you get lav mic to connect to your wireless transmitter when you get one. I'll put the link in the description of this video of the one I use. It is really cheap and it actually works very well. As far as the AF-S lens goes it is supposed to help with the noise, but I do believe that it still may have a little bit. Now I did a little more research and saw that Nikon has even a newer version of the 18-55 called the AF-P model. It is supposed to be even quieter then the AF-S version. So if the D5300 comes with this you got it made. Hope this helps. You are very welcome! If you have any more questions please let me know.
      P.S. The AF-S and AF-P version do not work with the Nikon D7000

    Hi, this is used for a specific lens? If u use a another lens you need a second profile?

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  2 года назад

      @Richard Post Hi Richard, yes if you are using a completely different lens you must use another profile. If you have two of the same lenses and are using the same camera you can test the second lens to see if it works with the profile you created for the first one to see if it will communicate with the second one the same way. There is a chance though that you may have to create a second profile because each lens is different even if they are the same lens because the glass can have the slightest imperfection. Each copy of the same exact lens model can differ from the other and may just not be as sharp. Just because they are manufactured the same and have the same elements inside does not mean the quality is the same. But for all other lenses yes, each lens needs its own profile. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

      @oscarfloreso8180 If it is an FX lens you can use it with both the Nikon D7000 and D810 but if it’s a DX lens the Nikon D810 will switch over to DX mode and you will be using only part of your sensor. So you can use the same lenses but the D810 will crop the image with your full frame sensor if you use a DX format lens to make up for lens barrel vignetting. I hope this helps.

      @Kris_World  Месяц назад

      @taylorritchie6313 Hi Taylor. Yes there most defiantly is. You can do this hand-held just make sure you focus on the same focus line every time. Your results may not be as accurate as it would be when you use a tripod but it should work to an extent. You will just have to make sure that you have a very fast shutter speed when correcting your lens. The tripod is just there so the camera can stay stable on your point of focus. You can use a book or a cereal box to check your focus as your focus line. Now you can also prop it on some books and tilt it at an angle as well towards your focus line just make sure every time you take a photo its same spot on the same part of the line. You just have to make sure that you have your subject (focus line) at an angle from your camera so you can see if its calibrated. I hope this helps.
