LOL I wouldn't pack up yet Bob! These are nice but very fragile, and the trunks are pretty much the same size. You could glue the upper part to a thicker trunk but thats a lot of work? I've bashed into your trees heaps of times and they are still there!! It's only a matter of time before I break all these off at the base..LOL .They are a good addition to other tree types and I have been told that Saltbush is very similar down here? Great video ,like the idea of using the iron . I grow my own sea grass when needed , of course when you have some stock it's ok . Certainly will try some of your methods, think the spraying the truck is by far the best way and then having a tray of thin glue , far better than spray glue which always ends up with leaves on the trunk .Thanks from the UK .

@@FishplateFilms Greg sorry to read about the Sea Grass. Are you unable to but seed because of your laws. I found the seed left on mine actually would germinate even after treatment in Glycol.
@@tomatoes3 Yes , the trees are are bio hazard that could bring plant disease into Australia. They have to be treated in customs, which drives up the price!
@@FishplateFilms Well your country is more sensible than here , we never had Lilly Beatles when we imported bare root plant's , but now they come in pots so have the Beatles . Had to get rid of our plants because of them Happy modelling .

They do look good and if you can put them where they are out of harms way they will be fine! I tried to follow the technique used by War World Scenics where they use their static grass layering spray to fix the foliage and it didn't really work at all. The foliage practically was bouncing off, only decided to stick when I applied far too much of it which basically ruined the look of the tree since the foliage stuck to the trunk too, the trunk was white from the spray etc. I guess I did it wrong but eh. So I went for the regular glue instead like you do and it works perfectly.
Hi Antony, I watched their video on tree flocking, and they made it look so difficult and messy! Also the way they made grass clumps was crazy !!! For super easy grass clumps, put dabs of white glue onto grease proof paper on a metal tray. Clip onto the tray and shake over the tray...perfect grass clumps to whatever size the glue size is! I remember when these first came onto the market for modelling. First saw them in German model railway mags in the late 80s I think, and when I decided to give them a go, I had to buy them from a model shop in Germany and get them shipped to the UK (ah, those happy, heady, blissful days when we were in the EU, and there were no import duties/restrictions etc...). Then a few years later, some English suppliers obviously worked out what the plant was, and started collecting it themselves (unless they were just buying the raw products from Germany). Must be some plants in Australia that are similar? To deal with all the tree trunks being the same size - and to my mind - always too thin and spindly, try bulking the trunks out with modelling clay.

Gregg Happy New Year great video, one thing I have done is very lightly over spray with a light yellow rattle can to give a hint of colour. It is enough to give the impression the top of the tree is catching the sunlight and gives a bit more of a contrast and depth to the foliage. As with everything layers are the key. Try spraying the trees you have applied static grass to to match the branches then apply your leaves. Neil

My wake-up-coffee nearly choked me on hearing your brilliant double entendre (3:06) Brilliant! But, in all seriousness Gregg, a fantastic and, very educational, tutorial. I too have recently acquired some small and medium seafoam trees from WWS and, am looking forward to experimenting with flocks and leaves. Regarding the leaves, I’ve also been experimenting with using an old electric coffee blender to make my own leaves. Not only using leaves, collected from the garden and gently dried, on a piece of tin foil, in the oven at low temperatures but, also using herb leaves which have already been dried and blended from the usual manufacturers. I found these could also be coloured with a wash solution and then dried again in the oven. Looking forward to working with these over the next few weeks. 5:32, the mod podge might be pva glue plus talcum powder or chalk. either is used by paint makers to make matt paint from gloss. plasterboard glue is just pva glue with lots of chalk or talc to stiffen it up so it doesn't dribble down from where its put. i was surprised that you imported small plants to make scenery trees then i thought that is probably because there aren't small plants that look like small trees. the cogs in my head started turning and i came up with a common weed petty spurge (aka radium weed). when a suitably sized plant is dead and the leaves have fallen off it has a similar branching system to trees. it might be possible to do something with it. this plant also yields a sap which is proven to destroy skin cancers. a tube of it costs $150. or just grow the weeds

Did you buy them from a local store, or bring them in from overseas and paid the fortune to Customs and Quarantine to get the plants approved to be brought in? I have been playing with the different materials on a stack of twisted wire trees, so was happy to see your comments on the different materials. As a N scaler, the thin stems of the sea-foam trees is not as big a problem as it is for you.
Hi Eric, I got the trees from "War World Scenics" in the UK and I guess they have a deal with customs?. The same company that made my static grass applicators and grass. The 2 boxes cost me about $60 for about 40 or so trees. They small ones would be perfect for N scale and the leaves would be OK from a distance. Thanks for watching. Gregg.

The little seed pods stay on but are easy to remove. Great trees but too expensive down here!
