This CD is what turned me on to Bruce Springsteen. The CD had a video with it of the "making of" this album. It has since been lost & I've been looking for it ever since. So excellent!

But I am weeping. This is the song that the final episode of HBO's Deadwood (Ep 12) played that brought me here. And Bruce Sprincesteen is the spitting image of my brother Mikey and he ain't here no more either.

There are many many versions of this song, but Bruce's has to be the most exciting and rousing one I've listened to. Apparently they recorded it without rehearsal!
Im sure it was rehearsed, but the live recording of it gives it an awesome spontanious feel, like a drunken hootenanny

As a matter of fact I was on a gig with Sam Bardfeld just last night, and he told me that Bruce would basically run down the changes with the band, then the tape rolled after that. Springsteen would just point at you when he wanted you to solo.

When I was a kid I would go with my parents to jam sessions where they would play gospel and bluegrass. Dad playing guitar and singing tenor Mom singing backup, this takes me back to the days of my youth, a place only music can take me to... I think I might try to revise some old song's myself, music in those days traveled with the people just as it should today.

Well I was just saying that this might be my favorite that Bruce does & that it was certainly my favorite song on that tour.
This is a song about Jesus, and the parable of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. It talks about Mary weeping because her brother has died, but she does not know that Jesus has the power and will raise her brother from the dead. The song refers to many miracles in the Old Testament to tell her that the power of God has not changed

My favorite rock musician playing a song made popular by my favorite folk/country/troubadour--Pete Seeger. Doesn't get much better. Only my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Manpearl could play it better. Yep, best teacher I ever had!! RIP--Thanks for the memories.

I love the scenes in which are Patti and Bruce so close, especially 6:08 and 6:13 when they hug. I know that it could be a fake imagine but I really have the feeling that they respect and love each other very much and I wish me soemthing like that (not with Bruce but someone else)
