Van Gogh, the son of a preacher, he had been a theology student and lay preacher before turning to art. His medical biographers agree that his adulthood included periods of hypersexuality, hyposexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality. His stormy homosexual affair with the painter Paul Gauguin included endless, often argumentative discussions; Gauguin's memoirs describe his difficulty in terminating such conversations, indicating van Gogh's tendency toward "stickiness." The affair culminated in the painter's famous self-amputation: during a heated argument, a voice in his ear whispered, "Kill him," so he attacked Gauguin with a razor; then, suddenly realizing his rashness and recalling the Biblical injunction, "And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out," he turned the blade against his own ear, which had offended him. This event conflates three of Geschwind's traits: hyper-religiosity, "changed" sexual behavior, and aggression. A similar incident resulted in van Gogh's suicide: he threatened his physician with a pistol, was rebuffed, left the office, and shot himself in the chest. He died two days later.
No problem with this. Some of our greatest artists were gay. But Stravinsky and Van Gogh were not. It's fine to acknowledge great gay artists and thinkers, but make sure you're right.
Rock Hudson, homosexuality has been very well documented in several biographies of gay men. It is difficult to make a video like this, and add all the source material used in research. I have been working on a video project with historical references. We need to divide a video like this into sections, those individuals that were openly gay in their lifetime, and those that were rumored to be gay. And those that were outed due to legal issues surrounding homosexuality.
Regarding comments stating that a person could not have been gay because they had children, you are basically saying that gay men aren't able to father a child. Almost every gay friend I have was married at one time and has sons and/or daughters from that marriage. Think before you post - PLEASE!
Aristrotle, Leonardo and Michalangelo were not gay. Just because people don't get married doesn't mean they liked men. Some of the people we could do without, not trying to be hateful, just trying to be honest.
Wikipedia: In the historiography of the second half of the 20th century, much interest was shown in Richard's sexuality, in particular whether there was evidence of homosexuality. The topic had not been raised by Victorian or Edwardian historians, a fact denounced as a "conspiracy of silence" by John Harvey (1948).[148] The argument primarily drew on accounts of Richard's behaviour, as well as of his confessions and penitences, and of his childless marriage.[149] Richard did have at least one illegitimate child, Philip of Cognac, and there are reports on his sexual relations with local women during his campaigns.[150] Historians remain divided on the question of Richard's sexuality.

@@oscarfelipe3413 : Have you? Read Plato's "Symposium". Then do some more research, especially on Aristotle - he praised a King of Crete for encourageing homosexuality to prevent his island from becoming overpopulated. Plato only became homophobic in old age - when he was recommending infanticide for weakly children. But even then he promoted "Platonic Love" - which originally meant homosexual love without physical sex.
As too often on the internet, rumor is embraced as fact.
Lawrence Olivier ,James Dean were both bisexual.i don't believe Herman Melville was gay
There’s more that we’re bi
No mention of Alan Turing??
"Half of the people in video weren't gays.... this video is just bullshit!"
-zeczizo
Actually, with a small amount of invested time researching each of the individuals sighted in this video, it can be clearly established that they are gay. Either by written or spoken testimony (or comment) in their own voice/hand.
More than you think, this is nothing, thank gays for your existence...
If you watch this, you probably are, welcome my genius friend!
HOW DO THEY KNOW THAT SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE GAY. ARE THERE NO BLACK GAYS. WHAT ABOUT JAMES BALDWIN AND LANGSTON HUGHES
And from Britain Ken Snakehips Johnson (bandleader) & composer Reginald Foresythe (jazz composer) & the right-hand men of Paul Robeson (Lawrence Brown) & Duke Ellington (Billy Strayhorn)
mannbitesdog: funny you should state that. to my right on the row of thumbed videos is "50 black gay men you should know. watch it if you're interested.
The music for this reflective is stunning
Thank you
Many of these famous people were bisexual, but still gave so much to the world, one way or another.
How can they know if people, that lived centuries ago, were gay ?
well, I give you some ideas: diaries, letters, witnesses or even prison sentences like in the case of Oscar Wilde.
Ha ha an intelligent statement.
Disagree with Aristotle, Van Gogh, Flaubert, Jules Verne
Missing from list: Marlon Brando, Roddy Mcdowell, Cary Grant, James Baldwin, Tony Perkins, Liberace(!), Robert Reid, Socrates, and more...
AND ELLEN!!
Don't forget Alan Turing, probably one of the most important !
how the fuck did i end up here
*Cuz you are a GAY!!!!!*
Comparative Advantage *why are you gay?*
The Pagan Owl because u here lol 😂😂
I’m Mexican 🇲🇽 we don’t allow that sorry but today they wanna be gays 11-12-19
Who gives a flying fuck if someone is gay or straight?? It's not going to affect your life one bit. Unless you choose to swim in a pool of paranoia. We've got MUCH bigger things to worry about than this. My ultra-conservative grandmother loved Cole Porter but didn't know he was gay. She didn't endanger her life by listening to his music.

Video liar.
Some may even be.
Others are pure speculation with dubious grounds.
YEAH JUST THINK " THE WORLD 🌎🌍 WOULD BE GREY WITHOUT THE GAY 🏳️🌈 " .
Forgot J. Edgar Hoover, Little Richard, Nero, Charles Laughton and wasn't Rudolph Valentino gay also?
Valentino was bi.
Not all of them are gay. Laurence Olivier to name one. Maybe bisexual but I never read that.
Couldn't find a photo of Liberace? Hmm?
LOL. Amen!
He's be # 1 fa.. God sakes honey!
*How about Perry Mason????*
Perry Mason, played by the actor Raymond Burr!
If you can not prove it somehow, you can not include persons, like Van Gogh
He cut his ear off to (impress?) a prostitute..desperate and unskilled with the ladies-definatley, but not necessarily gay.
Recently discovered evidence suggests he lost ear in a duel with Gaugin, but lied to keep Gaugin out of trouble with the law.

There are lots more to be discovered in Stephen Bourne's excellent book Fighting Proud published by I B Tauris in 2017 about British gay men's lives in the two world wars including Lord Kitchener, Montague Glover, Ken Snakehips Johnson, Quentin Crisp, Brian Desmond Hurst, Noel Coward, Ian Gleed (RAF Battle of Britain hero) & many others.
James Dean nothing of basis to place it there. But, if it is true, bisexual at most
*Sorry about your Hero Nut Case, James Dean!!!!*

Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, Charles Laughton and Elsa Lanchester, Anthony Perkins, Rudolf Nureyev and others!

Van Gogh, the son of a preacher, he had been a theology student and lay preacher before turning to art. His medical biographers agree that his adulthood included periods of hypersexuality, hyposexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality. His stormy homosexual affair with the painter Paul Gauguin included endless, often argumentative discussions; Gauguin's memoirs describe his difficulty in terminating such conversations, indicating van Gogh's tendency toward "stickiness."
The affair culminated in the painter's famous self-amputation: during a heated argument, a voice in his ear whispered, "Kill him," so he attacked Gauguin with a razor; then, suddenly realizing his rashness and recalling the Biblical injunction, "And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out," he turned the blade against his own ear, which had offended him.
Vincent Van Gogh was not gay. Neither was Sir Lawrence Olivier.

I thought Aristotle was just being Hellenic Greek, that men do boys, though they can marry women too. In fact, I thought he was bi.
Hellenic Greek means something else from Classical Greek. Aristotle was Classical Greek.
aristotle was not gay, he had deep love for his wife all his life
what do you mean hellenic greek means men do boys? is this a joke?
What about J. Edgar Hoover? He should be in the list.
Alexander the Great was a soldier and king. One of the greatest soldiers of all time and he was gay.

Paul Verlaine.
RED JOHN yes!!!! Thank you for correcting me.
Great video. Thank you. Although some of them may be non gay people. Bisexual, perhaps. P.S. I am an etero man.
Regarding comments stating that a person could not have been gay because they had children, you are basically saying that gay men aren't able to father a child. Almost every gay friend I have was married at one time and has sons and/or daughters from that marriage. Think before you post - PLEASE!
The Emperor Augustus was not gay. This is ignorance.
Noooo ! Elton John - OMG
Next you're gonna say Cliff Richard....
Aristrotle, Leonardo and Michalangelo were not gay. Just because people don't get married doesn't mean they liked men. Some of the people we could do without, not trying to be hateful, just trying to be honest.
Leonardo Da Vinci was certainly gay, he was actually once charged with sodomy in 1476 when he was young, This is documented.
MurkyWaterKid documentations can be manipulated.

Ahhh thanks, now I know why most ancient status, paintings and 'shrines' are mostly males and not females,
Wikipedia: In the historiography of the second half of the 20th century, much interest was shown in Richard's sexuality, in particular whether there was evidence of homosexuality.
Some of these "gays" were just happy people
Langston Hughes , James Baldwin , Billie holiday , Bessie Smith .
Jules Verne and Vincent Van Gogh? Goodness!
You really need to include Alan Turing. You might not be here today if it weren`t for him.
yes and what about Newton, the greatest scientist ever
I can't live without Adam Lambert.
Unclear why James Dean was included but Sal Mineo excluded, especially since they were both famous around the same time and starred in the same film - "Rebel"
I guess if they included everyone, this video would be hours long.
"IT DOESN'T MATTER WITH WHOM YOU SLEEP,BUT WHAT YOU DO"
some of there people were bisexuals and some have never confirmed being gay. i mean this video has very good intentions, but it is not accurate.
Yes, they are known gays. Everybody knows it, like Elton John. Open your eyes.
No all of them
I am not gay what viewing this video made me realise that all or practically these people were into the arts like philosophy art music writers actors etc,I interpret this that gay people are beautiful who love life peace not war mongers.

Lorenz Hart, W. Somerset Maugham, Brain Epstein, Peter Allen. I saw Peter Allen at an outdoor concert in Central Park in the 1980's. One of the best concerts I ever saw. Brain Epstein discovered The Beatles.
I read a lot of Somerset Maugham in college. One of my favorite authors.
BTW...I'm not gay.
Vincent not gay. Neither was Larry Olivier, tho I believe he was a bit bi curious
Olivier had what he called a 'romantic relationship' with a man but it was not a sexual one. This would probably be called a 'bromance' now, they're not that unusual. If you're going to count Olivier as 'gay' then you broaden the scope to the ridiculous.
