Halford was the first member of a heavy metal group to come out, it was monumental! I'm surprised there was no mention of Boy George having been in a relationship with Culture Club drummer Jon Moss. That's been common knowledge for a very long time. Also David Bowie was bisexual and had been married to model Iman for years when he died.

I think that it is not strictly necessary to come out as being specifically gey. One thing is the curiosity, tendency or habit inclination, etc, eg: bisexuality. In such case one might want to go perhaps, unnoticed. Another thing is that one considers himself totally gey and live such condition as such, which is nothing wrong about it.
