Firstly 55. Thanks once again for your efforts. A real review for us motorcycle riders. You gave real world use cases for features found on the new GoPro Hero12 rather than just ramble on about the specs of what the camera can and can't do compared to its competitor - the DJI Action4. Well Done !

Honestly I've been waiting for this for 10 years.
I've been vlogging using sena capture device and an old hero 4 to get my audio.
This is brilliant. I hate the extra mike cable.. because it also requires the media mod to get the aux cable to plug in. Now I can toss the media mod and my gopro bulk is much smaller on my helmet, plus pull out the annoying mike wire that often flops around hitting my chin.
Gave it a try today - works!

Thanks for clearing up some issues regarding connecting GoPro Hero 12 to your headset. Did do the same thing as you did with my GoPro Hero 12 and did not turn off my phone. The recording of my voice went bananas and I could not even listen to it myself. God tip turning the phone off!👍

I’m still running the GoPro 10. Recently I got myself the Rode wireless me setup. I had the mic clipped to the chin curtain in my helmet & it worked fine. I now use a Dango helmet mount & I’m able to mount the mic on the inside of the mount in the helmet, just in front of my mouth & it’s just as good. I’ve done a review of the whole setup on my channel - Rode Wireless Me Review for Motovlogging on my channel. Good to see GoPro has finally come up with this Bluetooth sound setup. Great video by the way😎
I’ve tried the Rode mics in this situation but as they’re designed as lapel mics not close proximity mics, I find they peak and sounds is not ideal. Good to hear the setup is working for you. Also the Hollyland Lark Max is a great option for wireless mics.

Hey thanks for a quick video from motovlog prospective with gopro `12. I have this question.
Say you have connected you gopro with cardo manually and turned off. Now you are using this feature auto power on and off feature which we mostly use to save battery. So when you power on and starts recording. does it connects to Cardo automatically in quick time? If yes, then game changer to motovlog during rains. Please help me
In my experience, no, the quick record feature does not allow enough time to connect to the Cardo before starting the recording.
But that may be fixed with an update.

I don’t believe the conversations over DMC would be recorded, but you can use the new function in the Cardo app for that.
Music wouldn’t be recorded either, but I will test and report back.

I just got the cardo today and I cant tell if it is a player issue or the camera and phone cant both be using the mic at the same time i think you said that in the vid it was hard to keep up u mentioned some tech idk about.. i did some quick research and it seems that it is one or the other any shot u can confirm that for me so i dont spent more time wasted trying to. 55 ... kinda wack they didnt sponsor u cause a few months ago when i was considering buying the cardo this was the top vid i watched.. and today when trying to pair this was also the best vid I could find still.. thanks for the hard work

Yes, you are right, you cant have the phone and the camer connected to the Cardo at the same time currently...
though I have heard if you connect the camera as bluetooth intercom 1, you might have more luck... give it a try and let me know.
just tried it on my Insta ace pro as well as my gopro hero 12 the cardo edge connects just fine

Currently I have 2 Hero 9 blacks, recently purchased the Insta360 ONE RS, wishing I had waiting for the Hero 12. I purchased the Cardo Packtalk Edge ORV Duo yesterday and waiting on delivery. Were you able to pair the Insta360 ONE RS with the Cardo Bluetooth? Be waiting to learn more from a more in depth review. I am looking forward to ordering the new Hero 12.
So I did a thing, ordered the Hero 12 today and it will be here tomorrow. Gotta have something to go along with the SxS we talked to the dealer about today. New Adventures on the horizon.

I have tried with the packtalk edge, Nro and custom, as well as the bold and all work fine for me.

Are you using any lens protection for the cameras? I imagine hitting a rock is just a matter of time. This feature is a gamechanger why I consider buying the gopro 12 even though I have the 8

Hey thanks for sharing this.....can you confirm that the new BT connection to the GoPro allows voice commands to the go pro like "GoPro Start Recording"...etc...for me thats the real game changer as once switched on you don't have to fiddle with buttons etc

Bluetooth connection to any Bluetooth microphone is a feature that could have been present in GoPro cameras for at least five years. Perhaps they grew tired of selling mods for $90 each to achieve similar functionality, which also required the acquisition of specific microphone models, such as the Rode Wireless Go or similar. Now, we are pleased with this 'new' feature.

I don’t have an x4 yet, but the x3 had this functionality. So you should be fine.
Any reason this wouldn’t work with a bold? You can bridge dmc mesh intercom to your secondary Bluetooth channel so you should be able to get group chat recorded…?

55. Great vid. I have the GP 11 and now wish I had waited for the 12. You are a bad man as I now have to go and get a 12 😀. This is a great feature and voids all the cable issues. Shame about the syncing not working with auto start. Seems like going to need plenty of batteries and change stops.

Hey MotoNZ, 55 awesome video mate. I want to start live streaming my rides with a GoPro while having only my music playing from my Cardo Freecom4x in the background. Before I go buy a GoPro, I want to know if there’s a way to do this? I’d plan on streaming to Facebook directly through iphone/gopro connection, and I’d also need a direct feed from my Cardo’s audio to the GoPro. Is this a possibility? My guess is I’d need a splitter so I can plug into my speakers and into the GoPro.

No, you cant have your phone and GoPro connected to the Cardo at the same time.
Having a problem with audio echo when using 2 channels and the gopro is on the chin mount. The bluetooth delay vs the internal mic is sufficient to cause it noticeably. I can see it can work on your setup with the gopro on your handlebar as it won't pickup your voice on the internal mic.
if you un couple the bluetooth channel in post you will be able to sync it up.

Can you tell me how is the reliability of the connection once you turn the gopro off? When you turn it back on will it automatically reconnect to the cardo or do you have to manually pair it again?
In my experience it automatically reconnects 95% of the time and reasonably quickly.

Thanks for the video and reading the conversations, we are all having the same problem: pairing our Cardo Packtalk and recording on the GoPro and at the same time listening to our Spotify music via iPhone, answering calls, etc. My question: is the idea of having two Cardo devices insane? One paired with GoPro only with microphone and without ear speakers, and the other paired with iPhone? This one has ear speakers.
It’s an expensive idea but it’s not crazy… I’ve done this.

Can you have both the GoPros onboard mic and the extern bluetooth mic both actively recording or is it 1 or the other?
The GoPro records 4x audio streams, bluetooth and the 2 internam mics, you can mix the audio in post production.,
55 I have seen where Sena 50 can communicate with the GoPro allowing for voice commands to start and stop the camera. Is this something you can comment on?
Yes, Cardo can do that, I just don’t personally use voice commands on my GoPro.
I have been able to connect it to my SENA 30K successfully on my Shoei RF-1400 and my Neotec II. In addition, I was able to stream music from my iPhone to my helmet and did not pick up the background music on my GP video footage. Game changer! However, I ordered a wireless MIC from Ulanzi which may be better overall voice recording sound quality.

Ok, this is what I discovered with the Ulanzi. I really need to show this as a video but didn’t record it because …. Uhm…. I was in my pajamas 😂
1. I could not get the microphones or wireless receiver to directly connect using Bluetooth but didn’t really expect to
2. Using a GoPro Media Mod with the HERO 12, I could plug the digital wireless Bluetooth receiver into the Media Mod directly and connect one or two of the Bluetooth mics to the receiver. I used one as a test. No need for two mics. I hit video record on the a GoPro and walked about 100’ away and my audio came in crystal clear. In fact it was booming so I need to turn the volume way down. I had the mic taped into the front of my Neotec II but it can be Velcro in. Each mic has a lapel clip which can also be used but I would trust Velcro more. The clip on the receiver fits perfectly in either cold shoe on the media mod. Thats how I placed it.
3. The Ulanzi device comes with a myriad of different cables for different kinds of applications which is rock star in my opinion.
4. As a further test, I connected my iPhone to my SENA 30K and played streaming music from Pandora while I was talking into the Ulanzi mic. I did not pick up any music in my helmet with the Ulanzi mic. This takes riding and recording audio\video to a new level. I will test on the bike tomorrow. I will upload a video to my channel of that test.
5. I am 100% blown away with the new 12 and its expanded capabilities.

My Gopro 12 has arrived. It pairs with Sena SC1 on Schuberth C4 without any problems and records the sound very well.
But there is a problem. I'm also pairing my phone with Sena SC1 and listening music. I understand it shouldn't happen at the same time, but I can't switch. Moreover, Sena also has an option called second phone connection. Also, when I make an intercom connection with my friends, the Gopro connection is disconnected and even if I turn off the intercom connection, it does not connect back.
Yes. I have similar experiences with Cardo.
Though Cardo have a function where you can record the whole conversation via the app.
Same here, Sena mesh intercom or any other is not possible when being Bluetooth paired with the GoPro 12.
Would be perfect if the Bluetooth connection while not recording would be as passive, your intercom active and only when recording, it blocks the intercom out (similar like incoming call) 🤷♂️

In my experience, no, it’s one or the other. Music from the phone is garbled when connected to the GoPro at the same time.

Hi! I have an issue, when I connected the audio of Cardo edge with instant Ace pro, the audio result completely silent and only take sound directly from the mic when I talked (I use mic boom, not wired for my modular helmet). So no background sound from the ace pro, even I tried to speak directly to the mic hole on Ace pro still no sound. Then I tried no to connect it with Cardo edge, the mic on Ace Pro works well to catch the sound,(so I assumed no problem with internal mic). Is there any setting I need to change in my ace pro? I tried to gain external mic, to +6db but no change for the result. Awaiting for your advise...🙏
Why ask me sunshine? This is not the forum to ask this question as he's reviewing the Go Pro!!!!! Why don't you do a search of U Tube or the internet about your problem and you'll find plenty of posts of how to pair Cardo to the Ace Pro. Do not hijack this posters page!!!!
That is something I've been looking for for a long time, one question tho, If i connect my packtalk edge to the gopro 12 and start recording, can I have the packtalk edge connected to my phone as well at the same time? so I could listen to music while recording? because I wanted this solution for recording my delivery job and making content out of it but I'm afraid I will have to ditch the music while working, hoping for an answer
As far as I know. with the phone or camera connected via the phone bluetooth channel... you cant have the other device connected.
However some people are reporting that they are having success connecting the camera to Bluetooth Intercom channel 1 and phone being connected to the phone channel...

This setup does not record the whole dmc conversation.
If you want to record the whole conversation you’ll need to do that using the record function in the Cardo app, or if you run Sena see the videos we have uploaded on this channel.
Does it pair automatically when you turn the camera on after being previously paired to the same audio source?

Sure does. Once paired you can turn the camera on and off and it automatically pairs, and quickly too.

Can you use the cardo to talk to other while recording it into the go pro?
you can talk to other people in your mesh group while recording, but the camera will only record you... no one else.
Currently the only way to record the whole mesh group conversation on Cardo is with the Cardo Connect app recording function.

So from your video I understand you recorded the sound onto the Insta360 RS and not the GoPro?
Both insta360 one RS and GoPro 12 we’ll record audio the same way.

I did my first test today (using Cardo PackTalk Edge and the Hero 12) bluetoothed on the 'Bike' channel but found the audio dropping out considerably. After watching this I'll try the 2nd phone channel and see if that improves things.
Since making this video, I’ve tried on both phone and gps channels and it works fine, but you can’t have your phone connected at the same time.

Can you connect camera but run the Cardo edge in DMC mode still? Surely you can? I’ve also just watched a Cardo pairing video, 2nd phone pairing is to roll the wheel forward, GPS pairing is to press the phone button twice, would it be better doing it that way as you said the GPS was temperamental, oh I’ve just bought a 12 based on this video, thanks very much

Yes you can, but you will only be able to record your voice... not the whole DMC group.
if you need to record the whole DMC group, hit record on the function in the cardo app.
No audio of the bike sounds, though? I've got a GP10 at the moment and looking at either the media mod or upgrading for the Cardo connection but would want the sound of the bike a bit as well.
The GoPro hero 12 records 4 mono streams of audio when connected to the Bluetooth mic device. 2x from the Bluetooth device and 2x from the internal mic. Then in post production you can adjust the levels of both the Bluetooth and internal mics.

You can only link to one at a time as far as I know, not entirely sure why you would want to link to 2 at the same time, just layer in post production 👍

Time to remove the dust from my Cardo system!. I just ordered a Gopro 12, even without knowing if it will work with the Cardo System. This will save a "lot of weight" from my helmet, by removing the Media Mod.

I don't have Cardo but i've try it with my cheap AliExpress and it was unusable. The biggest problem when connecting any freecom is that they have noise reduction and you can't control gain on Gopro, so you can't hear the sound of the motorcycle too much and the voice sounds too generic for my taste.
It would be a game changer if I could connect something like Rode Wireless GO or some similar mic with the magnet and stick it inside the helmet. I am surprised that DJI did not do it with their action 4 since they have wireless mics.
One tip. If you want to have usable audio from gopro on second channel (without wind noise ), buy cheap Windslayer foam and you will have engine sound for use in post. I have a tutorial on my channel for settings.

I have found when you use the audio from the Bluetooth device, the GoPro actually records audio from the device and the internal mic, so a simple mix of audio from both feeds brings back the natural ambience well.
@@MotoNZ Yes, that is why i told you about the vindslayer. Because you will get cleaner audio from gopro without wind noise and wind reduction. And you won't have to sync it it post.
But for my taste and sound quality from Bluetooth is still not good.
It's called quick capture. May I know whether Bluetooth from helmet connects automatically to go pro once we pause and resume video recording?
Hi there, In my experience, Quick Capture does not allow enough time for the bluetooth mic to connect before starting the record function on the camera, meaning its only using the internal mic.

Sorry, not sure what smartpack is. But in my experience no, you can use it to record the voice of the unit it’s paired to and that’s all.
The newer packtalk edge units and the link have a function in the mobile app to record the whole conversation of everyone in the DMC2 group

What do you mean by "Intercom audio"?
If you mean the full conversation with your riding buddies... then no. the camera will only record you. but if you are using a Cardo Packtalk Edge then you can use the function int he app to record your whole conversaion.
I have a hero 8 black and a packtalk slim.
To old for this to work?
Hero 8 can’t do the Bluetooth mic setup.
Packtalk slim should be able to do it with a hero 12 but you would have much better sound with a newer packtalk like the Neo or edge

@@MotoNZ not for me - the big challenge for me is mx/enduro. Really what I want is a new GoPro fully enclosed in the old style protective case, but with wireless mic so the camera setup is fully insulated from rocks, dust, mud etc. Good to see insta going well though. GoPro has great image quality and stabilisation but reliability has been sh*t. I made the mistake of upgrading from a four to a GP9... It had some horrendous bugs. If I'd had a direct competitor to go to they would have been history... But there wasn't, and they weren't 😂😳!
You can get a case for the GP12
Also the lens is replaceable and the housing is water and dust proof, so I wouldn’t worry about it, I regularly get off road with mine and have no issues.
The GP9 was a bit dodgy, but so far with 2 GP12 I’ve not had a single issue.

@@MotoNZ I figured I was unlucky with the GP9... The 10 went to a new chip so I'm guessing along with some poor quality control on coding the system was being stretched, so really I needed to wait for the 10 but I didn't know that so k'ching $800 and a lot of aggro! 😂 I know you can just use the media mod direct - there's a guy here in the UK (midwest MX) that does crazy off road in Wales just with the media mod and it's fine, but the truth is I'm just too retentive for that 😂😂😂!!

Nah, it doesn’t work like that. Only one Bluetooth device can connect at the moment. Otherwise everything is garbled.
If you want to record a group chat on Cardo you’re best to use the recording function in the app

Yes. Quality is not as good as packtalk edge. But can be done.

No Hero 11 will not pair via Bluetooth.

Well I am not a creator and I already have a 7 black, insta360x3.and the DJI mike. Since I bought the 360x3. I don't use the 7 black. So there that! LOL! Thanks for the help! Keep up the good work. @@MotoNZ
After your video I tried pair cardo packtalk bold and gopro 12. It worked but you can't use phone and video recording at the same time. I wish we can use video recording, dmc and phone connection at the same time.

whilst connected to the intercom does it still work whilst paired to the phone or other riders 55

if paired to other riders, they wont be recorded. youll need to use the recording mode in the Cardo app for that.
also no, you cant connect your phone to the cardo while the camera is connected, the signals get muddled
If you connect Cardo with Gopro, can you also connect it with iPhone to listen to music?
No, not at the same time.
can you connect talk the mic and record another rider that is talking to you from the cardo at the same time?
Yes, but only if you connect the camera as a Bluetooth intercom then patch it in to the dmc group with your other rider.

I used to use a Hero 9, and a Cardo Packtalk Edge. the cardo was paired to my phone and recorded the audio using the memo recorder... then just synced the audio and video after in Final Cut Pro...

This works with the Freecom X2... not sure about the Freecom +2, thats a bit older.
No, you cant listen to music from your phone while recording to the camera.
alright so this is a game changer.. but my Cardo edge is connected to my GoPro 12 but.. it seems like my audio records only when I talk. did you connect yours through GPS or phone bluetooth? I'm going to check my settings in the Cardo app and update it so see if I can fix it.

Were you able to fix it? Im planning to start a channel to record videos and wanted to use the cards to record audio but I’m facing the same difficulties you are as the voice only records when I start speaking. I’d really like to find a solution to this

Yes. It uses the phone or gps connection so works on pretty much everything.
