- As a follow up to my initial video testing the Bluetooth audio and how to pair the GoPro 12 to the various audio channels on the Cardo (link below)... here's my test vlogging with the Cardo and the GoPro 12 in a couple of different locations. Hahaha le chop from your bike is strong. I can't wait to hear that in person :D The lav mic is unsurprisingly a lot more meaty of a sound. For me I think (sadly) I'll stick with a lav and external for now. But the fact it works at all is a step in the right direction AND would be a very handy backup. Great video man and thanks for making it and taking the time to test this.
The audio coming out from the BT set-up seems more like of a ‘voice over’ while the lav mic is more immersive.

Thank you for posting this. I was curious how this would work. I think it's nice that it works with the Cardo, but clearly its not something the Cardo is designed for. They put a lot of effort into voice isolation and noise cancellation which is what you want in helmet coms. The lav audio is a lot better for the video I would say. Bluetooth might be a good backup if you have a mic failure on a trip. It might be better if you can mix in audio from the media mod in post, but if it's just a bunch of clipping and noise that won't necessarily work either.
You can definitely bring in some environmental audio from the media mod speakers but it can contain some overbearing wind noise, depending on the conditions. I’ve played with bringing the levels down in post just to boost the sound of the exhaust.

There is a big plus with the bluetooth. You do not have to worry about the USB port on the Go Pro getting wet. Great test.
That’s true for sure. A couple of years ago I got caught in a sudden downpour and didn’t get my GoPro off put away fast enough. It shorted out my audio brick. I was on a 2 week trip and that happened on day 4. No fun.
@@withPercyif we pause and then resume recording will intercom reconnect to go pro or we should remove go pro from the Mount and then connect again. I don't continuously record while on motovlog

I haven't done a video on that. Although, people do need to understand that it is a TRRS mic so you need to use one of the included adapters to convert it to TRS into the GoPro. Were there any specific questions that you had about the Purple Panda?
I much prefer the wired mic. The voice sounds louder, crisper & i like to hear some of the ambient noise as well. The bluetooth sounded muffled & that constant clipping would get annoying. And as you mentioned the battery drain with bluetooth is an issue. Nice experiment tho. 👍🏼
Thanks for posting this comparison. What mount are you using with the Hero 9 that holds the mic adapter?

Thanks for the video, but I have one major question, does the Gopro hero 12 with bluetooth connected to cardo will record other people voices when communication with someone on cardo, or it will record only your voice?
Great question. I have not been able to do extensive testing on that before I had to leave on another trip. I will be back next week and will do that testing for another video. There are other ways of grabbing that audio. But I’ll test it on the various Cardo channels.

I answered this elsewhere. But no… the GoPro will only record what is coming through via the mic. Not the group channel.

I've only been able to test that once briefly and I wasn't able to get it to work. Since the BT is routing the audio being picked up by the mic, I'm not sure we could expect it to also route the audio coming over the DMC channel. It's not like Cardo is trying to make their product compatible with the GoPro.
what if we connect RODE Go (Dji mic) wireless mic receiver output to a Bluetooth transmitter and connect the transmitter to Gopro12 via Bluetooth ? will we have a dual wireless mic setup ?
I like the wired mic, the Bluetooth seems to have a sound reducer built in

What's weired is people buy expensive mic for nosie cancellation and when you have one people say it sounds like voice over.
when i record using bluetooth with my hero 12, i move videos to my computer using the usb i lose the bluetooth audio completely on my videos! if i upload the video to the gopro quik app on my phone the bluetooth audio is on the video like it should be. if i share it to my computer i lose the audio again. any ideas of whay the issue could be?
Hi Percy. Thank you for the follow up video. It does sound weird without any of the ambient (exhaust/wind) noise being picked up. I was wondering, when connected to the cardo over BT, wouldn't the gopro output 2 audio tracks? One from the BT and the other from the gopro mic itself? That way wouldn't it be possible to replicate a better sounding and more realistic audio during post processing/editing? Thanks again buddy
Hey there. Yes… the GoPro mics are recording to one channel on the audio track while the Bluetooth audio is being recorded to the other channel of that track. When I went to add that footage into the edit, the sound of the bike recorded on the GoPro media mod bikes was hugely loud and distorted. Which is why I dropped that message on screen when I was talking about those mics. When I get back home next week, I’m going to do some more testing and may do a screen recording of what all the audio tracks look like in my editor.

I'm getting an audio echo due to the bluetooth latency delay vs the internal mic. So it sounds awful with both channels going with a helmet. Mount. Such a pity.
If you record both then you’ll need to zero out the audio of one of them in your editor.
Sound quality is incomparable with wired mic. I can understand what you are saying, but the biggest problem for me is that I don't here the engine noise of motorbike which makes video much less exciting to watch.
May be if he wear an offroad helmet or dual purpose helmet we will be able to hear bike sound which is important for motovlog
finally I found this video since I still confused to buy cardo... are we gonna able to speak with other bike and record the conversation? or is this feature just for solo rider with one intercom
As of when I tested this, it will only record you directly and not the group. I'm keeping an eye out for updates from Cardo for group recording, other than using their app to capture that audio on your phone.
Is the GoPro 12 the first with this ability?
The Cardo app seems to provide very flexible configuration regarding noise filtering, mic gain, etc. This might get you your ambient motor sound if there were a way to pair the GoPro with the phone to relay the audio through the app instead from the Card directly.
The 12 is the first GoPro where this is supported. I haven't tried tweaking the sound settings yet, but that is something that I'm about to do over the next few weeks.
@@withPercy Thanks. The Cardo audio configuration might just be for its app recording, not forwarding to the camera. It would be ideal to have the ability to have different levels of filtering for what you send to the intercom vs. the camera. You want ambient noise going to the camera, but not the intercom.
They could make this easier by routing camera audio through the phone, apply whatever filtering desired, and forward it to the camera.
Have you used the new cardo app record feature then sync in post?
Not yet. I ride with my iPhone in the storage cubby so I can't work the app. One they released this feature, I suggested to Cardo that they make the feature compatible with voice commands that you could start and end the recording that way. Hopefully we'll see that on their roadmap soon.
I'd like to add that the loudness level of the BT audio track is extremely low. I had to boost it as high as I could in Fairlight to even make it audible. It is comparable to the Go Pros raw audio set to low. Only useful if you post process your video/audio.
Interesting. That’s something that I’ve noticed. But you are the second person who has mentioned experiencing the same thing. I have a Sena on my helmet at the moment doing some testing for them. I’ll throw the Cardo on and do some testing on this. I’ll post my audio settings for the Cardo and GoPro in a separate short or something as well.
@@withPercy after more investigation it looks like the BT audio is not processed by the Go Pro at all, similar to the Raw Audio Low recording.
Can you connect a lavalier microphone to GoPro 12 by using just the new Bluetooth connection without using the media mod?
If yes can you recommend a portable budget one that is compatible.

A wired lav would have to be connected via the media mod or the usb-c audio adapter.

Yes. You can.

Yeah. You’re connecting this to a different channel from your phone on the Cardo. It won’t kill anything from your phone.
@@withPercy So when I connect the cardo to phone via bluetooth and then connect the gopro via bluetooth on the Bike channel or Phone 2 Channel, it disconnects the bluetooth on the phone... I can't seem to have both devices connected to the cardo at the same time...What am i missing?

Can it record conversations from a riding group over bluetooth?
Unfortunately, no. You can however record the group via the Cardo app if you're running the latest generation communicator and firmware. Then add the audio from that to your edit.
Have you tried with the wind reduction turned off?
The voice isolation is from the Cardo. Not the GoPro.

I’m not sure if that’s an option available in the Cardo settings. I’m just returning home from my extended trip and will check that out.

My Gopro 10 died just before the year, they gave me the option to pick new, so i got the gopro hero 12 and paid just 10€ extra
