About the battery, please don't use fast chargers. They use a very high current that ends up degrading the battery capacity. Fast charges are for occasional or emergency use, if you use this feature constantly it will drastically reduce the battery life of any small electronic device. Keep the current below 1A and you will have a long battery life. I have had one since its launch and the battery still has a very good capacity.
Definitely true of older style batteries, but not necessarily true of most modern lithium batteries. Cardo advertised up to 30w fast charging on launch and specified that 20 minutes of fast charging would provide 2hrs of talk time. Lithium batteries tend to degrade more when kept at its extreme states of charge. Still, these small lithium batteries often have inconsistent quality, especially as the price point is reduced. If you have a good one, enjoy it! Hopefully it'll remain good for years to come!
@@4KMotoring Since it is impossible to know which battery is of good quality and which is not, I always recommend that friends be careful and avoid using fast chargers.
@@4KMotoringjust because a manufacturer recommends faster charging, does not mean it’s good for the battery. For pretty much all modern phones, it is recommended to use a slower charger to extend the battery life
Sure, but we're typically talking about the difference between 2,500 and 3,000 charge cycles over the life of the battery. Sure fast charging every time will get you to the shorter end of that but still a serviceable lifespan. 2 or 3 months before totally frying a battery is not due solely to continuous fast charging
My packtalk edge just died during my vacation trip. It really sucks not being able to communicate with the rest of the group for the remainder of our trip. Seems like these battery problems plague the packtalk series.
@@4KMotoringbeen looking at getting the Pack Talk Edge duo for my wife and my sled riding this winter. (Two Backcountry XRS with 10.25 screen- which SkedAddicz say Cardo and BRP Skidoo are working on the middleman issue) These quality control issues and the App incompatibility when trying to use the bike or sled as middleman has me thinking maybe I should go with BRP Skidoo Vibe/Sena setup. Yet Cardo seems to be pushed by so many streamers.
@VonSpud the quality control issues are being worked in, Cardo is shifting their manufacturing away from Ukraine so hopefully that's addressed, there's a 2yr warranty so I wouldn't be too concerned by it. App support is another thing. The Cardo Edge app is great for initial setup, but I see no reason you have to connect to it every time you ride. If you're taking up both Bluetooth channels with other devices, it's pretty easy to re-pair your phone once every other month for updates.
we are also using the dual package neo but we are experiencing a sound delay of about 1 second during the conversation. do you have a similar situation? cardo customer service has acknowledged the problem but says that this is normal. this jeopardises safety while driving because we transmit warnings about the road late.
The Neo/ Edge/ Pro use a new sound processing algorithm to produce better audio quality. Unfortunately, that comes at a cost (latency). There is definitely a noticeable delay with all the units I've tested, but it's definitely less than 1s. I would consider it mildly annoying if you're close enough to hear their voice, but not anything I would consider a safety hazard.
Mine came built in to my 509 Commander Mach V helmet. My complaint is sound quality for music. Horrible no mids or bass. I ended up downloading a EQ app and it was a world of difference
@@woodysgeekchannel2204 Could you please give me the name of your EQ app that you use. There are so many different ones and I would really like one that is good for an IPhone. Thanks in advance.
I would suggest trying to connect cardo to your phone and not through bike, if it's possible. Just to try it out if the origin of the problem might come from bike Cardo connection.
It never caused an issue for my old Packtalk Bold units so I would assume that's not the problem, but it may be worth testing if I experience this issue again
I have the exact same issue with my Edge. The only problem is I can not get in touch with Cardo no mater what I do. I’ve been calling for months with no answer and have sent them numerous emails with no reply!!!
Love the edge. Except that the phone button doesn't work. Like it doesn't click and won't let me turn off the phone. They need an override feature on the phone to turn it off juat in case the hardware has issues.
I have two edge units, one when first released another couple months latter to communicate with my boy. No problems here. Glad for the customer support/service! Could you use camera stand getting sea sick watching, sorry just constructive criticism.
Thanks for the tip! Sometimes the internal stabilization works better than others. I'm glad to hear there are good units out there. My most recent replacement seems to be doing well so far
Just noticed issues with charging was starting my research, I have the edge myself owned for about 1 year. I also noticed that my right speaker seems to have quit working. Any issues with yours?
I've had several of these and none have ever had any speaker issues, The wires go into the speakers are pretty thin, and they are capable of being swapped out. Would first check that the speakers are plugged into the mount fully, then make sure the wires aren't kinked or broken. Depending on the age of yours, contact cardo support to see what they can do for you
Rule of thumb to follow is to fully discharge your unit before charging it up again, and do not keep the unit fully charged if the unit is going to sit for more than 2 weeks, if you know it is going to be on the shelf for 2 weeks then drain the battery to 50% and store it, that way your battery should last you years.
Juat got a V4 Rally and paired up the Android phone to the bike...unpaired it a couple of hours later. The Bosch system is crap and I returned to mounting my phone to the bike via Quadlock wireless system...much better. The whole pairing system that you describe is the same for me and I put it down to the Bosch system just being poorly executed. Ducati should've just paired with Apple and Android to integrate the Play and Auto systems which are so well proven that it should be a no-brainer. I've now added an AndroidAuto screen (Carpuride) which is very good, but, I have left the Packtalk Edge paired to the phone to maintain Cardo voice-command functionality because pairing everything to the AndroidAuto unit means the Cardo voice commands don't work (the same as when connecting to the Ducati/Bosch system). It's frustrating and is probably just a software upgrade away from being a decent integrated system. With the Ducati being such an expensive machine, you'd think it was worthwhile paying for the Apple/Android systems. Great video as always.
Everything works fine on my cardo edge, other than than the prodding on the other end can barely hear me. Seems like s common issue. Tried all different settings. There's no mic sensitivity setting on app like everyone seems to say to adjust. Gotta tell into the mic and the person on other end still replies with, "what?" I hope cardo comes up with a fix fix.
I have the cardo half helmet kit. Boom mic sits directly in front of my mouth with the yellow arrow facing correct way. I also tried the mic that came inside the the edge box and same result, the other end can barely hear me
Probably worth contacting Carter support as they will be your best resource for a solution. I would be pretty confident in saying there's probably a setting that you're missing to make this doable, but they can answer that question better than I can
I'm on my second unit. First one, the radio would randomly turn on when I would speak. Now the battery barely lasts one roughly 6 hour ride with only using group communications and GPS voice prompts. Cardo wants me to do a battery test
Its definitely user error. All new batterys like this have to be charged completely and then used until almost no battery thrn recharged to 100% in order for the battery charge indicator to learn the full range. Even your cell phones and earbuds need this to perform properly.
Lithium batteries are supposed to not have this requirement, but even so, an improper initially charged device should not decrease battery life dramatically over time.
I would bet it's more on the hardware side, check the little pins underneath the magnetic mount to make sure they are all making good contact, then check the wires going to the speakers, they are thin and pretty brittle if they get folded up inside the helmet
My mic stopped working completely after about 10 months of riding and riding 5 days a week at least won’t pick up me speaking at all. Tried factory reset. Unplugging plugging back it and still nothing. Battery life now for the past few months has been diminished to about 50% of what it was when I bought it.
Honestly i dont have this issue on my units at all .. but i had a friend who told me same issue that you have... i figure out that could be a problem from the function and features in on the units... i ll give mine.... i turn off Google voice commands.. and i switch language to UK.. and i always used my phone paired on 2nd pair... and bike on bike pair... it could be sometimes bike issue drien battery.. you dont know... please try these and let me know what is come with u 😊... also i charge it on a Samsung 25a adaptor... same wire....
Experienced a strange problem (as yet unresolved by Cardo support) with Packtalk Edge Duo. Turned on first unit and paired with the app; changed language to English (UK); update required and loaded slowly, but successfully. Turned on second unit and paired with app; changed language; update required; "OOPS - something went wrong". Repeated multiple times but always the same error. Tried connecting to Windows updater tool but still fails. HOWEVER, if I do not change the language, no update required? It cannot be just a language issue as the first unit worked, but does this mean that I can never update the second unit for future firmware updates?

Try and connect like this. Mobile Phone to Phone 1 on Cardo. Mobile Phone to Bike. Cardo Phone 2 To Bike. This way you will retain all the cardo functions as it is connected to your phone so all the JBL audio profiles works as do all the buttons and volume control. I do it this way on both my Harley Road Glide and BMW 1250GS.. For the most part this works great.
@@4KMotoring Yes it would. I've gone back and forth, but I like the ability to control my music and phone calls from the handlebars, especially with my phone in my pocket. It's also nice for my helmet to stop blasting music automatically when I turn off the bike. Obviously multiple ways to get this to work, just a matter of personal preference

OK, thanks for the reply, I have always checked my spam filter and seen nothing there. I tended to go the website and the Support page, maybe I’ll try through Cardo Connect like you suggest. But won’t be surprised if I end up that same support page, we’ll see. Again thank you.
I don't own an iPhone so I can't provide a ton of assistance there, but try connecting your cardo to your computer and using the cardo update software. That may fix any bugs you're experiencing
I’ll look into that, but there again when I try to update it says that I already have the current firmware software, I forget which, but I think it’s 3.1. Again, thanks for your replies.
Yes. One person can share their music to anyone in their group. But it’s only working sometimes and not consistent. Even just around the table we are having issues.
Hmmm honestly not sure about that, I've never used that feature. Might be a question for cardo, but I would imagine it used their Bluetooth connection rather than DMC, which if often a little glitchy

Have you contacted support? In my experience they've stood behind their product very well although their quality controls are a bit lacking apparently.
I'm having alot of problems with Cardo support and the system. My system works great in a controlled environment. But when i'm riding outside the battery life goes down to 3 hours of battery life with a full battery. Cardo wont replace the unit. They say that this isn't a factory defect. Cardo and the dealer wont give any warranty. Cardo Support is the worst support i have ever experienced. There goes my 400 euro's. I expected better from this company.
Interesting perspective, maybe it's country based? I've had nothing but the best from Cardo Support, they've had no problem replacing two units for me for the same battery reasons
@@4KMotoring Did you have the same problem as me that in normal house conditions the cardo unit works perfect, but when your out riding the unit only works for 3 hours?

@4KMotoring it isn't the battery that is the issue. It is the smart battery life software that has to learn the battery. All newer electronics that indicate battery life need to be fully charged then discharge to near zero and then recharged 100% in order to properly learn the cell capacities.

@@4KMotoring that’s fair I was just talking about in general
My packtalk edge just died during my vacation trip. It really sucks not being able to communicate with the rest of the group for the remainder of our trip. Seems like these battery problems plague the packtalk series.
I see they're now making a lot of their new models in China rather than Ukraine, I'm wondering if these battery quality control issues are responsible
@@4KMotoringbeen looking at getting the Pack Talk Edge duo for my wife and my sled riding this winter.
(Two Backcountry XRS with 10.25 screen- which SkedAddicz say Cardo and BRP Skidoo are working on the middleman issue)
These quality control issues and the App incompatibility when trying to use the bike or sled as middleman has me thinking maybe I should go with BRP Skidoo Vibe/Sena setup.
No issues with battery, just waiting on Cardo to come back to me as one of the buttons on the edge has failed
That's a problem I've not heard much about!
Mine came built in to my 509 Commander Mach V helmet. My complaint is sound quality for music. Horrible no mids or bass. I ended up downloading a EQ app and it was a world of difference
Did you end up with the JBL speakers? The Cardo Connect app has EQ settings
Yes i have jbl. The eq on cardo app was barely noticeable.
@@woodysgeekchannel2204
Could you please give me the name of your EQ app that you use. There are so many different ones and I would really like one that is good for an IPhone. Thanks in advance.
@@woodysgeekchannel2204 which eq app? Thank you.
Strange, I use the app and get responses right away
Issue I have is that it connects to my phone Bluetooth but won’t connect to cardo connect app
That is always a dance. Restarts are sometimes necessary
Iv done everything I just don’t get it
Im having issues with the voice commands using ,"hey cardo," have yet to even get the unit to respond
There are sensitivity settings on the app that are honestly difficult to get just right. There are some tutorials from Cardo on RUclips that may help
Try saying Gardo with soft "r". Makes a big difference.
Love the edge. Except that the phone button doesn't work. Like it doesn't click and won't let me turn off the phone. They need an override feature on the phone to turn it off juat in case the hardware has issues.
Have you tried it on different units or only one? Maybe a bad switch, cardo support is very responsive for any issues
Unfortunately mine never sits that long. Also, these new lithium batteries don't like being fully discharged like the only NiCd batteries did.
Are you using the boom mic or wired bike?
That's their standard practice. I did the same test and they replaced mine
@@4KMotoring OK, how long did the radio stay on when you did your battery test?
@@robb8773 around two hours before giving a low battery warning
Its definitely user error. All new batterys like this have to be charged completely and then used until almost no battery thrn recharged to 100% in order for the battery charge indicator to learn the full range. Even your cell phones and earbuds need this to perform properly.
Lithium batteries are supposed to not have this requirement, but even so, an improper initially charged device should not decrease battery life dramatically over time.
I keep having to factory reset mine due to sound only on the right side. Waiting on another one from Cardo.
Hmm, that's not good! Glad Cardo Support is taking care of you
Do you know if it's software related or hardware? Mine stopped working on the left side as well
I would bet it's more on the hardware side, check the little pins underneath the magnetic mount to make sure they are all making good contact, then check the wires going to the speakers, they are thin and pretty brittle if they get folded up inside the helmet
@@4KMotoring to me it doesn't make any sense if a reset makes it work again, checked the pins but not the speaker wire yet, it's a probl of lately
My mic stopped working completely after about 10 months of riding and riding 5 days a week at least won’t pick up me speaking at all. Tried factory reset. Unplugging plugging back it and still nothing. Battery life now for the past few months has been diminished to about 50% of what it was when I bought it.
Definitely reach out to Cardo Support!
Odd, I know this is a silly suggestion but did you try factory resetting it?
@@4KMotoring Oh, so many times! Also tried update from Windows, Android, Apple. 1st unit ok, 2nd unit fails. Cardo suggesting a return for evaluation/replace, but they are sold as a pair, already meshed without any user interaction necessary. Do I return one and have an unmatched pair, or return the pair and end up with the other unit coming back faulty?
@@philipdavis8286 that sounds frustrating I'm glad Cardo has already reached out to you. Paring is a super simple process and that is what these units are designed to do. It is convenient when they come in a dual pack since they are already paired but it is effortless to pair new units together.
Im having the exact same problem, but I just can’t get in contact with cardo, I can’t find a phone number anywhere

Only fault reported on this video is a battery that won’t hold its charge. This happened on his warranty replacement too.
Correct, over multiple units.
Is it true that cardo edge is having a problem if use in carbon helmet?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, I've run the cardo edge in my carbon agv sport modular for a couple years without issue. Carbon fiber is not made much differently than typical fiberglass or other matrix composites found in most helmets.
@@4KMotoring thanks for your answer! 🙂 some said its having connection issues or reducing the range. Im thinking before that probably its just occurring with the edge variant, not with bold.

Unfortunately that leaves out my Garmin XT2
@@4KMotoring Yes it would. Why not just go
Phone To Cardo mobile 1
Zumo to Cardo mobile 2 and leave the bike out of the equation, you will definitely get better call quality and better control over music volumes ect.. What does pairing to the bike actually give you out of interest or what would you lose but not pairing to the bike... Because the gains may be better than the loses..
I've gone back and forth, but I like the ability to control my music and phone calls from the handlebars, especially with my phone in my pocket. It's also nice for my helmet to stop blasting music automatically when I turn off the bike.
Obviously multiple ways to get this to work, just a matter of personal preference
@@4KMotoring Yes I understand, that happens with my Setup adding a carpuride android auto unit to my set up. I lose the ability to change songs via the GS 1250gs screen.. But I can still do it via the cardo buttons and voice commands..
My issue is mine isn’t loud enough my cousin got one it’s way louder than mine with same settings and everything maybe my bike is just to loud idk
Speaker placement makes a big difference. Make sure speakers are centered over your ears, use the spacers to bring them closer if needed
Make sure your using a charger that actually pairs to the battery, some do not..
How are you all getting Cardo Support? I've sent in emails off the site and heard 0 back. There doesn't seem to be phone support listed anywhere - do you have a phone # that I just haven't seen? I've not had the unit more than a week and have other issues, not long enough usage to have this battery issue. I have no Cardo Voice Control, I did first off but then not, and Siri is hit or miss. I also find 2 pairings in my Bluetooth list of devices, can't seem to get around that. I've tried re-booting, returning to factory settings, can't seem to get around these problems. Is there a Cardo group out there on the web discussing problems and solutions? Thanks.
I went through the Cardo Connect app and was able to get ahold of support that way. Got quick responses, check your spam folder.
Similar issues. Going back to Sena.
I have yet to encounter any issues bad enough to get me to switch back to Sena 🤣
On the pack talk edge orv we are having issues on sharing music on a repeatable basis. Anyone else having or tried this feature?
Like sharing music from one unit to another?
We got it figured out.
I have at least 6 friends all with Cardos of 3 different models, and not 1 ride have we all been able to mesh for at least 20 rides if it’s more than 2 of us. Cardos instructions followed to a TEE do not work.
Which models?
My PackTalk Bold HAS THE EXACT SAME BATTERY PROBLEM. Cardo is a second rate company that does NOT stand behind their second rate product.
I'm having this problem since i bought the unit (15 months ago) For about 13 months i had driving lessons and didn't use the unit that much. Now that i have my own bike I noticed this problem.
It was noticably insufficient. They gave me a method to test using FM radio from a full charge, I wasn't even getting 3hrs out of my battery. Make sure you're running the latest firmware as well.

All battery powered electronics are supposed to be charged fully before you use it. That's probably what the issue was.
That's theoretically less of an issue with lithium batteries, but to be sure I've been paying attention to each charging cycle with this one
@4KMotoring it isn't the battery that is the issue. It is the smart battery life software that has to learn the battery. All newer electronics that indicate battery life need to be fully charged then discharge to near zero and then recharged 100% in order to properly learn the cell capacities.
