    The 50 f2 was my first Fuji prime. I was handling the XC 15-45 and a few cheap Chinese MF lenses and the Fuji 50 was such a relief! Awesome lens, no complaints from me. Now the 35 1.4 is living on my Fujifilm, but it's so much fun swapping that with the 50.

      I have 15-45mm and ussr lens Helios 44 with an adapter from my film camera Zenit. So, now I’m trying to find out which is better to buy - 50mm f2, f1, or 56mm 1.2. There’s a huge difference in the price in my country

    • @RCGJR_
      @RCGJR_ Год назад +2

      I feel you on that XC 15-45mm, bought my xt30ii with that lens and immediately bought me some primes 50mm and the 35mm ones, night and day difference.

  • @CheapCharlieChronicles
    @CheapCharlieChronicles 2 года назад +10

    I've always enjoyed using my 45mm (90FF equiv) for micro four thirds which is the same as this Fuji 50mm. These lenses are so small you can pack this lens and a 24 or 35mm prime, that's a great travel combination. 90mm primes are great for street photography and I feel like they are very underrated. They are small and give you a bit of space from your subject, but not too much space like a voyeuristic telephoto zoom. Also the compression, light gathering ability of the fast aperture and shallow depth of field is quite nice. The small size puts people at ease versus a huge lens pointing at people. I also like to use it to pick out details, like the shoes of someone walking or the hands of a guy cooking street food. To do that with a 24mm lens would be impractical, you'd have to get really close to their feet lol. This 50mm Fuji is perfect for doing that.

    I just shot a music festival in my town, a dozen stages, large outdoor, small intimate indoor and many busker corners. I have many Fujifilm lenses, and I was going to be out for about 10 to 12 hours. I grabbed the 50mm f/2 put it on my X-T3 threw 4 spare batteries in my pocket and did the whole event with this minimal set up.
    The results were great! Not a single missed focus. Flare was well controlled even with stage lights in the frame. 90% of my shot were made at f/2, and I never felt that I wished it was faster.
    Every time that I think about getting the 56mm, I go back and look at the results from the 50mm f/2, and I'm more than happy with it.

    Thanks for the review video Eren. I own both Fujifilm 50mm f2 and 56mm f56 f1.2 (the old version one). In my opinion, these two lens are not much comparable and can't be used instead of each other even if their focal length are pretty close. I use 50mm f2 more for daily life shoots in my everyday bag and for the street photography on my X-T30 (sometimes on my X-T4 as well). But i prefer to use the 56mm f1.2 almost always on my X-T4 more for the planned shoots which needs more equipments like fashion, product, stock photography and etc in the studios or outdoor. First i got 56mm f1.2 and i thought i can use it for both of the scenario. But i realized with time that the lighter and more discreet you are, the better when you do street photography. And these Fuji cron lenses makes it perfectly possible, especially when they are combined with a camera like X-T30 or X-E4. I even try to go with 27mm pancake lens as much as possible but this is another topic. The famous photographer Chase Jarvis said “the best camera is the one that's with you". I completely agree and that's why i wanted to get the 50mm f2 even if i already have the 56mm f1.2, though in many reviews people are comparing these two lenses and discussing as if they can be used instead of each other. But my experiences showed me that these two lenses made by Fujifilm for the different needs and the purposes even if they have kind of common versatilities too like being good at portraits.But still, i think 50mm f2 definitely can't be as perfect as 56mm f1.2 when the comparison is about shooting portraits because of the classical 85mm focal length (of full frame equivalent) for the portrait shoots and because of the extra faster aperture speed, especially in the low light conditions.
    But recently, i am reading and watching lots of positive reviews about Sigma 56mm f1.4 which is relatively a new lens, at least for Fujifilm X mount cameras. It's highly rated & recommended and found "best value for the money" in almost all the reviews. I think only the downside of this lens for me is missing the aperture ring, but i think i can get use it even if i really like it a lot. Apart from that the lens look almost excellent with every aspects; the sharpness, contrast, color rendering, AF speed & silence, and especially the lightness and compactness with only 280 gram weight even with a fast f1.4 aperture. Moreover, it's literally half price of Fujifilm 56mm f1.2. So, now i am a bit confused, because when i decided to get the 50mm f2 even if i have 56mm f1.2, my main reason and motivation was the compact size and the light weight for having a possibility to use it for daily life shoots and street photography. Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 is two times heavier than 50mm f2 (the new version of 56mm is even bigger and heavier the old version), that's why it made sense to get 50mm f2 lens too for me. The difference is considerably big between the these two lenses for the size and weight (over 200 grams). But if i have Sigma 56mm f1.4, i think that 80 gram difference is quite negligible when i consider getting that extra light by having f1.4 aperture even for daily shoots and street photography which would be amazing! So, i have a strong intuition that Sigma 56mm f1.4 would work for both of my scenarios which is much more budget friendly and minimal by having only one light & compact lens instead of two lens; one big & bulky and one light & compact.
    On the other hand, i didn't read or watch any review yet which compares the new version of Fujifilm f1.2 R WR and Sigma 56mm f1.4. All the current comparisons are between old version of Fuji 56mm f1.2 and Sigma f1.4. But if the new version of Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 performs significantly better than Sigma f1.4, i think still would prefer to keep my Fujifilm 50mm f2 and upgrade the Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 and end up staying with both as i do now. I watch your videos and as i know you are using only the Fujifilm lenses and maybe not interested to use the other lenses from the third part companies. But i am sure at least you heard something about the lenses made by the third companies for the Fujifilm X mount cameras, especially about Sigma which has a Japan brand with a high reputation. I was using Canon cameras before i shift Fujifilm and Sigma lenses were my favorites. But they didn't produce any lens for Fujifilm for a long time. And they succeeded to take my attention with their first lens for Fujifilm cameras. I was wondering what's your idea about having only Sigma 56mm f1.4 instead of having both Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 and 50mm f2 since it looks like it has capability to work alone in many needs and purposes with its light weight & compactness while offering a high quality optic performance with the sharpness, contrast, color rendering, AF speed and silence and most importantly with the fast f1.4 aperture which is the main determinative factor for many users and i think for me too. Especially, if you had a chance to use and review the new version of Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 and compare it with this game changer light weight & compact lens Sigma 56mm f1.4 (at least by having a look at the specs and other reviews, sample photos and etc) would be great! Thanks in advance.

      Huge thanks Ozgur and I agree with your thoughts not he 50f2 and fuji 56 1.2. As for the new 56 1.2 and the Sigma, I've yet to use either of these however, later this month I will be getting a couple Sigma lenses to test out. I'll also be testing the new Fuji 56 1.2 so will be able to compare.
      At the moment though I'd just stick with the gear you have now, I have the 35 1.4 and am holding off going for the 33. The older fuji lenses have a slightly different look which I prefer.

    Just a note on your presentation, the constant throwing of the lens gets very distracting. I understand the nervousness, but rather put it down and cut to other images. I couldn't continue watching cause of the lens throwing distraction.

    Hey man, Great reviews.. Do you ever bother using the lens hoods with your F2 Set of lenses? I also find that they detract from the compact minimal feel of the lenses but i'm not sure if it effects the quality of the photos not having them fitted?

    Amazing shots and one of the best reviews for this lens, maybe even the best bro! 👏
    You just show how great 50mm really is 💪
    I have this lens and it is my most used lens in the system.
    One key advantage - I shoot a lot of product photography with 50 f2 and it is perfect for that since it has fantastic minimal focus that I like to mention compared to 50 f1 and 56 f1.2, almost more than double.
    And it has perfect sharpness to bokeh ratio, contrast and color saturation for my taste...and acctually I like how it looks with lens hood on my x-t2 and x-t3, it gives them little bit more retro vibe 😊
