Your pictures omg are so amazing. I cant stop looking at them. I wish you all the sucess you need to keep that going. You truly are an inspiration for all of us. Thumbs up!
Excellent review. I also use the 23f2 with an Xpro2 for street and urban landscapes with great results. Please stop tossing the lens; it is distracting.
😂😂 there are probably a million fingerprints on the front and back glasses. And I hope he misses a catch to understand that lens should not be tossed like this 🤣
Yeah bro. FUJIfilm has a sponsorship for RUclipsrs to throw lenses up in the air and they get a good solid $1-$5 per flip on the first day of release only. This is to promote the durability of the lens. Eren made $892 in this first video.
Yes, this is a good lens… the worst Fuji XF lens is probably the 16-80 mm… horrible bokeh, and primarily sharp to the point of being a bit clinical… a testament as to why sharpness is not the only criteria for a lens to be great…The hardest to use XF lens is probably the 56 mm APD (f 1.2 or 1.4, I don’t remember exactly… because it’s so slow to focus, it’s a challenge to use… but when it achieves focus… ohh man, that swirly bokeh and drop-off vignette!
Nice images! A 23mm f/2 lens came with a Fuji X-Pro2 graphite mirrorless that I purchased. Since I already had a Fuji 23mm f/1.4, I planned on selling the f/2 as soon as possible. However, I decided to try it before I sold it. Big mistake because I fell in love with the little lens. I now own and use both 23mm Fuji lenses. I primarily use the f/1.4 for photojournalism, documentary, low-light, and weddings. I primarily use the f/2 for street, landscapes, and vacation/travel. I use both for infrared photography.
@@jahmalbaptiste9915 I do use the 23mm f/1.4 for dim light street photography. However, since most of my street photography is performed during daylight, I prefer to use the smaller and lighter 23mm f/2. I could use the 23mm f/1.4 for landscapes. However, the 23mm is not my favorite lens for landscapes. The 16-55mm f/2.8 weather resistant zoom is my favorite Fujinon lens for landscapes. I prefer to carry my smaller, faster, and weather resistant 23mm f/2 as a backup to my zoom instead of the larger 23mm f/1.4 Fujinon. I do use the 23mm f/1.4 for vacation/travel. I usually carry it with 56mm f/1.2 and 16mm f/1.4 prime lenses and two bodies. However, when I want to carry only one lens and one body, I prefer to carry the smaller and lighter 23mm f/2.
Glad I found your channel. I enjoyed the lens juggling ;) Subscribed! I've got the 23, 35, & 50mm. I have to admit I haven't used them as much as I should. I get a little lazy with zooms. But of course for street the primes are great!!! That said, I'm sorry I every sold my old 23mm 1.4 the image it produces is magic! Just an amateur photographer for over 40 years ;)
Haha huge thanks Bill! I never liked the assumption that photographers that use zoom are lazy. in my experience you can often get more creative with a zoom lens
That was an excellent review and it's so relevant because it's made by you, a photographer with a big portfolio that knows how to get the best of each lens. I hope you will have time in the future of doing a similar review for the 35mm F2.
Great review mate, a true long term use! I've got mine just 2 weeks ago after 3 years use of 35mm f2 brother :) Love the Fujicrons, my fav lens series!
I stopped looking at reviews that do not come with talent and you are one of the ones I am suscribed to. Thanks for making reviews and show what the gear can really do. It really makes a difference and gives an idea of what a lens can archieve. I do not really care how sharp a lens is on the corners on a non fullfilling image… i do care if the lens can bring emotion & character to the image. It makes a whole of a difference. Thank you for the effort. I am curious what you could do with a lens like the rokinon 12 or a less inspirong lens like a zoom lens, perhaps the sigma that try to do many things at the same time but does not excel at nothing… would love to see a review of those coming from you…
This review enlightened me that that I've always been a street photographer. It wasn't obvious to me but when I saw your sample photos I figured out that 85% of my photos are like yours. Of course I bought this lens two days ago ;) BTW Great review and great photos.
Hey man! You are one of my favourite reviewers, and I'm going to spend a bit to get your presets too as I absolutely love the look and feel of your photographs.
This lens basically lives on my Xpro3, it's fantastic! I just did a full grad shoot with it, who says you NEED an 85 ;-) I had the 27 pancake as well but it became a part of my daughters grad present on my old Xpro2.
Stunning images! Is there a particular simulation or preset in use? Heading to Japan later in the year and this is exactly the look I would like for my pics! PS love the review - definitely picking up the 23 when I can :)
Fantastic review bro! I'm really glad that I have this lens in my bag. Your first review for 23mm helps me to make decison to get one before my trip this summer. I made some great shots with it. Thanks bro! I really enjoy shooting with this lens. The lens has it's own character, output is really nice, very contrasty and the colors are very rich. It is little bit warmer compared to my 35mm f2 and 50mm f2 but I acftually like that. And it is very sharp wide open, at least my copy. Softness is only issue when I shoot ~25cm from subject at f2, but I never shoot that way with it... It has little bit more purple CA than my other fujicrons but is easy to fix in LR. Nothing to worry about. Indeed one of the best lenses for travel and street photography.
I was searching around YT and this video helped me to decide whether to go for the 23mm or 27mm, so thanks! Also just realised I've been following you on insta for more than 3 years lol
Do you shoot your photos with the Fuji recipe or you edit them. I actually have a Sony and I want to change to Fuji and I think I’m going to buy this lens thank you !
Great video, I'm thinking about getting a prime for street/night photography (I'm a Geography teacher and want to do a bit of a tour of Northern deprived areas). I checked mpb and the price between f2 and f1.4 23mm is not so much, which do you think is the better buy for the long term?
Really great shots mate! You're doing a lot of editing though right? Just so we're clear as to what the lens actually produces and whats editing. Thanks.
Very nice review! I was thinking to buy this lens in Second Hand deal. Anothing thing, I notice in most of your pics Why Did you add more Noise into them? Is it because you Want your photos to look like Film Analog back then?
Shot a fire damaged wall today with a T-2 and the 23. Well lit shade, iso 200, around f5.6, f8, speed at 250, shooting in S with a small spot focus in Velvia. Well, on the screen it was exciting. But back home I thought the resolution was poor. ( I keep most of my camera settings like high, low, sharpness at zero) There was no flaring. Have you noticed different levels of detail depending on which simulation you used? We all know Velvia adds contrast which appears to give detail.. I'm going back tomorrow to try Standard and the high rez square format...
So the simulations only effect the JPEGS, while I do shoot in JPEG and RAW, the photos a share are almost always captured in RAW and edited in Lightroom. The different simulations will have an effect on how sharp the JPEGs appear.
Now i know the image quality is really depend on how you throw and land on your hand. This maybe related to reset the aparture for auto focus, and blend the element to the best .( how to warm up yor lense before shooting)
A good review..i honestly love ur shots and how you edited your photos.may i know what film simulation ur using or if its edited in LR?😍..All ur shots looks cinematic. Tnx
Thank you Eren, that was a great review of the lens! I’m looking to get an X-T30ii and a 23mm f/2 as my first lens to go with it. I was just wondering, is the kit lens 18-55 f/2.8-4 also worth considering in general? Only asking because I can get it together with the camera body at a better price. Thank you!
The 18-55 is a great and very versatile lines. Id recommend going for the 18-55 first, and work out which focal lengths you enjoy shooting at before picking up a prime lens.
I love the 23 angle of view, it's about the same as human vision. The X100V, go on spoil yourself, a superb camera and great fun. Good for Lanscapes too with the nisi pro filter kit. Liking the shots Eren and your website.
Love the review and your style! I just bought the X-T30 II and the 16-50mm just to have a lens to use. I’ve done a lot of street and landscapes but not sure I’m ready for portraits yet. Wanna get my first prime but was going back and forth over 23mm f2 and 35mm f2. You think this will serve met better, right?
Hello Eren....I'm from India and professionally a Pharmacologist but I'm in love with Streetphotography and daily shooting . Yesterday I bought FUJIFILM XT30 II with XC15-45mm kit lens ( f3.5 ). Can you suggest me which lens would be great ? I'm having very little knowledge about Cameras and Lenses I need your help .
Helly Joyjeet. So it really depends, id say use the zoom for a while to work out which focal lengths you enjoy shooting at, and then buy a prime after you are comfortable using the camera,
When you said 200g for this lens, I got jealous with envy. I am currently looking at the xpro 3 because it checks all the boxes for me (was looking at the Leica M and the xpro 3 seems to be the better and more obvious choice overall). I currently use Leica and Pentax cameras, and one of my main lenses (Pentax DFA * 50mm 1.4) weighs nearly 1300g! Awesome weather sealed lens and optical Quality, but it’s not really viable to carry around when it weighs that much not including the camera body itself. I actually use a 23mm f2 on my Leica and I wonder if this Fuji f2 would shoot similar in its handling. F2 is pretty soft on the Leica lens but by f4 it’s pretty clear throughout the frame. Do you think the xpro 3 and f2 could be a one camera, one lens combo that would work for taking it on travels, daily carry, etc? My last question is how do you think the AF would be for people moving around (animals playing, children running around, etc)? Thank you in advance!
If you are going to use it as a one lens combo, why not consider the x100v ? same set up, even more compact, integrated ND. The X-Pro 3 sure is a sexy camera, but a X100V seems to fit the bill as well in your case.
I ended up going with the xpro 3 and 23 f2 r wr….really enjoying it a lot. I thought about the 100 but I’ve had fixed lens cameras in the past and it’s always a pain trying to deal with getting the sensor clean when it gets dusty/dirty. Took nearly a month to get my Leica X2 back, etc. I’d rather just spend 30 seconds to take the lens off and blow it with a blower than wait 30 days to get it back, pay for shipping, etc. Aside from that, I absolutely love the 100 and would have gave it some serious consideration!
Thanks for the informative review Eren. I have this 23mm lens and looking to get another, do you recommend the 35 f2 or 50 f2 if I were to get just one more?
Hi Erin, Love your work. Could I use this lens for doing RUclips tutorials without any face distortion eg big nose. or would the 35 f 2 be better... I just really like the wider street photography as you've shown. Cheers
I hear a lot of people raving about the x100v but not being able to change lenses isn’t my idea of real photography. Same goes for the Leica Q series. I’m sure the photos these cameras take are amazing but I would feel limited. I just picked up an X-E3 and the Sigma 56mm F1.4. I’m probably going to get this lens that you are tossing around. And maybe the older XF14 F2.8. My total investment will be around the same as what a used X100V would go for. I’ll have a much more versatile setup and will feel like a real photographer vs a pseudo cell phone photographer (which is what point and shoot cameras like the X100V and Leica Q seem to be). Thanks for the great review and nice shots!
Hello bro love from india, thanks for making such videos, you said 23 is for street as well as for landscape and 35mm specifically for street, so what is your opinion on 27mm f2 , i need a lens for street as well as portraits having noticeable background with deep depth of field so which would you recommend among 3.
Nice episode mate. I've been thinking about buying a wider lens. I have 35mm f2 atm but I feel like on some occasions I need something wider. Maybe I chase a deal on black Friday :)
Thank you Josh! I've used it a bit, really nice lens, can't really go wrong with most fuji lenses tbh but I do feel as Fuji have to make lenses which are great at photo and video now, we lose an edge on the photography side
This review has swayed me to looking into the 23mm F2. Looking to get something faster than the 27mm F2.8 for night shots & this looks to be it. Have you tried the 18mm F2? If so how do you like it(more so the quality of it than the focal length)? I mostly shoot landscapes but have been getting into night time street stuff.
This is the only lens I use in my set up. Why? I don't need to think about options. I just take my camera and start taking pictures. It's so liberating. People buy way too many lenses. Stick with one and enjoy.
Thanks a lot for a great review. I own the 35 mm f2 and am looking for my second lens 😄👍. Was thinking of the 16 mm f2, but this might be better .... hmmm or maybe I should buy both 🙈
Thanks Michael. Both would be great send lenses for your kit, the 23 is a little better for street while the 16 will be more useful for landscapes and architecture
Another great video. I use the 23 f2 on my XT30 and XE2 and always enjoy it. I do carry the 35 f2 for when I’m strictly on the street. Bye the way, good hand eye coordination! Stay well.
Wow, a reviewer who can actually shoot great photos. Nice job, mate!
Appreciate that, thank you 🙏🏼

Keep on tossing it up in the air and you're bound to drop it...Nice review thanks.
🤹🏻 thank you!
Gorgeous photos. The lens tossing was distracting, but I enjoyed the review.
Awesome weather sealed lens and optical
Quality, but it’s not really viable to carry around when it weighs that much not including the camera body itself.
AF with this lens is really good and yeah, can easily get away with the 23f2 on the Xpro3 and not worry about switching lenses at all
If you are going to use it as a one lens combo, why not consider the x100v ? same set up, even more compact, integrated ND.
Thank you! id say get the 50 as the 35 is pretty close to the 23
@@erenjam Good shout. In terms of use cases, which environments would you typically use a 50 vs the other 2, wider lenses for street photography?
Nice results with the F2, I use it for video but, it's my least favorite for photos. After looking at your pics, I will re-assess.
Focal length preference really is a personal choice, most street photographers just stick with one FL that works for them
Hi Erin, Love your work. Could I use this lens for doing RUclips tutorials without any face distortion eg big nose. or would the 35 f 2 be better... I just really like the wider street photography as you've shown. Cheers
the 23 is great for RUclips, I used to use it all the time before the 16-55. You don't really get any distortion at 23mm
Totally agree, huge thanks!
Does it breathe a lot for video when manual focusing? I'm not sure if the 18-55 has more or less focus breathing
Not used the 23mm for too much video but I've not encountered that problem yet
What do you suggest for a visual artist for some street, objects and human photography too mix usee 23 or 35 ?? Pls suggest
Hey guys, do u know some cheaper alternatives to the 23 mm f2?
Hello bro love from india, thanks for making such videos, you said 23 is for street as well as for landscape and 35mm specifically for street, so what is your opinion on 27mm f2 , i need a lens for street as well as portraits having noticeable background with deep depth of field so which would you recommend among 3.
The 35f2 will be Better over lens, especially for portraits, the 50mm f2 is also an option
Nice episode mate. I've been thinking about buying a wider lens. I have 35mm f2 atm but I feel like on some occasions I need something wider. Maybe I chase a deal on black Friday :)
I often head out with the 35 and 23, all basis covered pretty much
If you ever show the pillow under the frame, it should have some visual gag on it. "Moe's Camera Insurance and Fresh Bagels", etc.....
😂
What do you think about the Viltrox 23mm? I want to buy 23mm and can't decide 😂 Viltrox or Fujicron? 🤔 BTW. Great review mate :)
Yet to test out the Viltrox lenses, usually I tend to stick with the native ones but I've heard good things about Viltrox too
@@erenjam I made my decision. I take 23mm f2 😄
Outstanding shots man. I have the new 1.4 WR. Have you thought about getting it? Or too big I'm guessing.
Thank you Josh! I've used it a bit, really nice lens, can't really go wrong with most fuji lenses tbh but I do feel as Fuji have to make lenses which are great at photo and video now, we lose an edge on the photography side
How many times did he throw the lens??
🤹♀️
A great lens I have mine almost clued on my camera thank you.......ps I just subscribed
This review has swayed me to looking into the 23mm F2. Looking to get something faster than the 27mm F2.8 for night shots & this looks to be it. Have you tried the 18mm F2? If so how do you like it(more so the quality of it than the focal length)? I mostly shoot landscapes but have been getting into night time street stuff.
yet to try the 18mm but I find the FL a bit too wide for street
This is the only lens I use in my set up. Why? I don't need to think about options. I just take my camera and start taking pictures. It's so liberating. People buy way too many lenses. Stick with one and enjoy.
100%
Thanks a lot for a great review. I own the 35 mm f2 and am looking for my second lens 😄👍. Was thinking of the 16 mm f2, but this might be better .... hmmm or maybe I should buy both 🙈
Thanks Michael. Both would be great send lenses for your kit, the 23 is a little better for street while the 16 will be more useful for landscapes and architecture
Throwing a lens so many times and actually never dropping it is a supernatural skill this days haha :)
Love it
🙌🏼
Another great video. I use the 23 f2 on my XT30 and XE2 and always enjoy it. I do carry the 35 f2 for when I’m strictly on the street. Bye the way, good hand eye coordination! Stay well.
Huge thanks John! having the 23 and 35 is the perfect combo!
I'm having hard time using 35mm focal length, but some other people use that lens look pretty good especially composition and framing
Its important to find the FL that suits your photography style. Some love using wider angle lenses but I prefer the longer end
Why are the shots too small and other peoples pictures cover the whole screen?
I looooooooooooooove your style!!!!.... thank you so much!!!!... (subbed!!)
huge thanks!!!
