I bought the Fujifilm XF 35 mm f/1.4 a few years and disliked it. It focused slowly and noisily. Eventually, I realized the problem was me. I tried to use it for things that were more suited to zooms. I ended up selling it. But times change. This year, I wanted to do more street photography, day and night. I did some research about what fit my needs and got this lens the f/2.0. So far, I've had three photo shoots with it, and I'm really happy. The image quality is amazing and has snappy focus. Even shooting my dog is a pleasure.
If you aren't sure about the xf 35mm f2 you can buy the xc 35mm f2 for £169 since the internal glass is the same. I personally own the xc version and the the biggest difference between the xf and xc versions is that the body is plastic, lacks weather sealing and an aperture ring. This could be a deal breaker for some people and it would be for me if I used it more since I love the aperture ring and metal construction on my xf 50mm f2.
I used the 35mm f/2 for several years and can remember my first outing with it when I ran to my Nikon buddy and had him load my SOOC jpegs onto his computer and he kept saying that I was trying to trick him by saying it was APS-C. He couldn't believe how great the images looked from the little 35mm. Like you though, I finally got thevf/1.4 version and now the f/2 lens rarely gets mounted. It's very good, but the f/1.4 is great. The hype is mostly true... pixie dust giving a magic rendering in certain situations. Can't measure or quantify it, but I can see it.
This has been my favorite lens over the last 4 years as well. I just picked up the 50 f2 and the 23 f1.4. Both are great, but I'm really attached to my 35 f2. Btw, you should try the 18 f2. I think it's better than what people say. It has similar qualities to the 35 f1.4.
Love your videos. Your street work is so inspiring, I have a 35mm which I have neglected for a long while now but I'm going to get out tonight with it and give it a go.
"...and I don't really take good care of my lenses...I like to juggle them during videos!!" LOL!! :-) You were totally making me nervous watch you throw that lens around..... Thanks for this video. I'm trying to decide what prime I'd eventually like to buy first. It will most likely be an f2 because of price, but not sure if I want the 35 or the 50. That 50 is so tempting because it would be great for portraits, but that wider field of view and standard focal length of the 35 is really nice too. Oh well.....decisions!
haha, id go for the 35 if you are looking for a lens for different styles of photography. That said, you can also do street with the 50 so both work .... coin flip
I've waited for this review since you've made the one which covers the 23mmF2 😁 As always, super information with great photography to sustain it and no 'bla bla bla' youtube talk. Keep it up ma' dude!
Nice shots and review! Great job bro 👏 xf35mm f2 is my favourite lens, when I look my LR catalogue ~40% of my shots was made by this lens. I shoot evertything with it - travel, street, cars, product, portrait, street...the most versatille lens in the system and f2 is also more than good in low light for me 😊 I never had an issue with sharpness, I even shoot close-up small products with labels wide open at f2 and had tack sharp images, but I agree that there are sharper lenses in the X system but for the price this pocket rocket is the best buy for the quality that provides. I would like to see compare video with new 33mm, I hope you will get that one soon 💪
The 50mmf2 is not soft close up. Razor sharp. The 18mmf2 is not soft close up either. The reason I sold 35mmf2 and 23mmf2 and kept ny 35mm1.4 + the rest. @Sufstreet Great photographs by the way!
You gave me anxiety, jungling with your lens...😂 I just started photography, bought myself a second hand XT20, not the best but very good nonetheless, with the pancake 27mm Fuji lens, but it's way too noisy and flat. I consider this lens or the 33mm 1.4. Beside the price difference, would you still recommend this lens in 2024 ?
hi i have fuji 15-55mm lens i am using xt4. I want to buy a prime lens. I'm undecided between 23mm f2 or 35mm f2. I can shoot youtube videos, promotional videos, product shots. which one do you think?
Real talk: how many times have you dropped a lens throwing it in the air? Hahah jk. Love your videos and LOVE your look. Would you ever consider doing a video where you walk us through your editing process for an image? I'd love to see how you go end-to-end from RAW to the final image with commentary on how you think about color, contrast, etc... as well as how you think about artistry, intention, motivation, and storytelling. Thanks for the videos! Really appreciate what you're doing.
The image is magnified by 1.5 due to the smaller sensor on Fujifilm cameras therefore a 35mm lens becomes 52.5mm or a 50mm equivalent focal length on a full frame sensor.
Hi, i like your videos. My only constructive criticism is that you throwing the lens and catching it is distracting, at least to me. Please dont take offense as its just my opinion. You take great photos.
I wanted to buy this lens a few days ago, but when I tested it in the shop, the autofocus of 35mm f2 was kind of slow. It was jumpy and taking time to focus. The autofocus of 23mm f2 on the other hand was faster. Is this because of the lens or the camera that I’m using? My camera is fuji xt200. Really appreciate if you could respond.
@@erenjam Okay maybe that specific lens is faulty if you’re saying both AF of 35mm and 23mm are the same as I was not having trouble when I was testing out the 23mm. Thank you for responding Eren.
I wanted to buy the 35mm f2 two months ago but where i live they sold out everywhere. Funny enough fuji announces the 23/33 1.4, two weeks later i end up ,picking up the 33 instead . love the lens Sharp, fast and the images that come out of it are quite nice
Watching this together with my 35mm f2
Love this lens
Same!
Eventhough I have recently been cheating on it with 23mm f2, it has been my fav Fujı lens for over 3 years. My lovely little beast :)
Hahah love these f2/s!
Great review, however you gotta stop throwing the lens up in the air. It's distracting and kind of anxiety inducing!
Thank you! 🤹🏻
100% Agree

Try the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 PRO, its around 500$ and its amazing.

I love my 18mm F2
your good at catching. can you juggle 3 lenses
Sounds a good idea for my next episode

Great night photos. Excellent mood, they have a film noir vibe.

Huge thanks! Its a great focal length for the streets
Cracking little review of the lens and one that makes sense to other photographers. And great shots with it too.
totally agree! Thank you!!
Really no reason not to just own all the f2 primes, they are all great and have their uses!
agree!
Great video! and your photo is absolutely stunning, may I know what recipe you using for those photo showed in this video please?
Huge thanks John! all edited using my preset pack 🙏🏼
This lens is fantastic for streetphoto!

Nice review! Some if your images is giving me Saul Leiter vibes. ☺
Huge thanks!
I really like the samples, was there a particular Fuji film simulation you were using?
Fujifilm Classic Chrome, then edited on LR

Thanks for the video. Would you pick the XF35 f2 over the Sigma 30mm f1.4?
I am confused between the two. Any thoughts?
Not sure yet! Will be testing the Fuji sigma lenses out soon
awesome imagery!

23f2 is the more versatile out of the two but you can't really go wrong with either.

What camera do you use for your professional work? I saw Fuji clip with the gfx 50 sii
Fujifilm XT4 for almost all of my professional work

is it worth to spend 60€ + shipping for the Squarehood lens hood (on this 35mm f/2)? btw, nice video for an outstanding piece of equipment.
I have a JJC square hood and it works great. All metal and much cheaper.
Will make no difference to the photos but they do look cool :D
hi Eren hop your well what film simulation did you use?
classic chrome
@@erenjam thanks
Have you tried the XC 35mm?
not yet but the internals are pretty much the same as the XF 35mm f2 so IQ and AF will be the same.
@@erenjam exactly. Only difference is just the body. Really like it. Wish they did the same to the other lens range
Great video just subscribed
thank you Ernest!

@@erenjam awsome thank you for the reply!
I always get confused with the apsc equivalency, is this 35mm really a 50mm? or in our fujifilm cameras really if it is a real 35?
The image is magnified by 1.5 due to the smaller sensor on Fujifilm cameras therefore a 35mm lens becomes 52.5mm or a 50mm equivalent focal length on a full frame sensor.
yh the 35 is pretty much 50mm on full frame, the 33 mm is bang on 50mm
Hi sir, Is it also nice for video ? And does it offer stabilisation if used on the xt30 ?
Its great for video on the XT4 with IBIS however, the XT30 does not have IBIS so the footage will be shaky if shooting handheld
