    Thanks Richard, a fitting tribute to my father Denis Minett who was in charge of the experimental section at the Vincent HRD factory and produced the first Black Lightnings 48 - 50.

      Altered tuning and hybrid picking. Bass strings do the rhythm and the melody line is on the higher strings

      @@philmus1this is one of the few tunes in which he employs traditional fingerpicking w/thumb-pick. He has one the greatest right hands in guitar... no matter what technique he happens to be using.

    Somebody asked me yesterday 'do you like Prince ?'. And the answer was yes. However, he can't hold a candle to this man, in my humble opinion. More irrelevant comments later this new year !

    This is just SO GOOD. As someone who plays guitar, Richard Thompson's talent is something in which I love to immerse myself! He is just so jaw droppingly good.
    His soulful vocals here also bring goosebumps.

    The gratest biker song ever written and performed, If only it was about a Black Shadow. I've ridden Norton's, Triumphs and BSA's many times but a Vincent only once. He's right it does have a soul. The guitar part is impossible to play,

    Maybe it's down to the version you hear first, but I came looking for the original composer of this song having heard Sean Rowe do a version which totally blew my mind ... such energy and drive. Out of interest in who wrote this song I came here. I have to admit from a technical point of view Richard Thompson is very, very good, technically better than Sean Rowe for sure, but for me heart and soul are far more important than technique and Sean's version really does hit the spot!

    This is still the best version of this great song that I have heard, and I have heard a few, tho probably not all. I think the Scottish brogue adds as much to it as the guitar does and I really love guitar when capoed up a few frets in a skillful finger picking style as Richard does here. "Beeza"? "Triumphs and Nortons and Beezas just wont do",,, BSA.

    • @kevins2961
      @kevins2961 8 лет назад +6

      Scottish Brogue?
      Richard is as English as they come, he is from Pinner, North West London.
      You are right about everything else though, often the best version is by the man who wrote the song!

    • @fawcems
      @fawcems 8 лет назад

      Well Mister know it all, I dont care if he's from Timbuktu, he sang that song with a Scottish brogue and a damn fine job he did so Bob's yer fukin uncle...

    I have heard more than a few hot shot guitarists try to play this and totally blow it. Maybe Earl Scruggs but we don't see each other these days. BTW if you are ever listening to this among one percenter bikers and you don't stand and applause you may never stand again. The best biker song ever written. Too bad it isn't about a Black Shadow.
