There’s two types of people in this world:
Those who heard this song for the first time and then listen to it over and over again. And the other people who haven’t heard it for the first time yet.
I heard RT's version for the first time last week.
I am now exploring different versions...
Del McCoury band was my introduction. Still my favorite version.
No one does it like Richard Thompson!
..
You are spot on!
I'm listening to it early in the morning and I'm listening to it after dark. I'm walking down the road listening to it on my phone in my pocket, different versions. Almost have it memorized. It gives me the feeling I had when I was 12, crashing through the gates of hell on my Honda z50 minitrail. I'm 67 now, a bit more beat down, but I still know the feeling. To ... ride
One of the best covers EVER👍
I think Sean Rowe was born to perform that song and I doubt that Richard Thompson himself would argue with that.
It's an awful version 😆
@@imtheadamus1979 how is it awful?
There's something missing here: a tumultuous standing ovation from a stunned and delighted audience
They were all out fighting in the parking lot.
You really nailed it.
I totally agree! I would have been one. Thank you RUclips
I am standing with tumult in my stunned and delighted heart !
*bowing*, screaming we are not worthy!!
6 years now & I have to watch this every few weeks or my life just doesn't feel complete .
try this one: ruclips.net/video/QRofkslI4FA/видео.html
I'm in a similar place. One of my favorites songs and versions. Triumphant indeed. I still like Pat Brynes.
AMEN
Best version by far...also rev. Payton's big damn band...but Sean is the best hands down
I only found it 4 or so years ago, but I totally agree with you!
i come back to the well every few months and it nourishes me...
This makes me think of my father, I wish he could have seen this, he passed in 2009. Born in 1944 with an abusive father, he dropped out of high school and ran away, his mom divorced and remarried a guy who (correctly) thought my father was trouble. At 17 he stole a car in LA and tried to drive it to Tennessee. He ran out of money in Oklahoma and called home, they convinced him to turn himself in and promised he wouldn't be prosecuted. haha. He was. When he got out he worked odd jobs; He told us the story about how he needed a vehicle so convinced his mom to buy him a bike, he found a Vincent Black Shadow for sale at a dealer. As they were starting paperwork she told the salesman "it is a nice little scooter" he told her "it is the world's fastest production motorcycle"...which killed the deal. He was a big guy with a beard, had issues with authority his whole life...but he was a loving father.
RIP God bless him.
Mike, totally happened on this comment by chance. Good story. Your pops lived one hell of a life. One spent making mistakes (if that be the case) is not only more valuable but holds more honor than a life spent doing nothing at all.
Wow!
Much more than a great cover!!
Richie Haven vibes!
Love it!!!...
My dad born in June 44. He would have loved this too. When it’s good it’s good. No doubts.
How the hell did he manage to evoke the smell of the Vincent 52's oil and fumes through music? Incredible ❤
This is, without a doubt, the best cover of this song I've heard.
Undoubtedly I'd agree.
Check out Aoife O'donovan's cover
Better than Reckless Kelly?
Del McCoury cannot be beaten.
John Grobmyer My das has played this exact cover and song to me since I was a baby
'I think that was better?' All I can say is holy s*#t! Richard's original is gentle, melodic and sad. This is forceful, committed, triumphant. I never thought I'd find a version that I liked better than the original and I think I still haven't. But this is just unbelievably good and I'm really not sure, now, which I prefer. Outstanding, Sean; truly outstanding. Thank you from the bottom of a British heart.
You heard the fire pit collectives version?
I've always loved this song and got teary when I saw RT play this live... This is a better version!
Damn straight.
Ain't nothin got a soul like a Sean Rowe '⁵²
Check out Logan Halstead's "Our Vinyl Session" version. He's only 17, but , wow.
Why this man ISN’T still headlining , at least in the “ acoustic tents “ , of festivals across Europe & the rest of the world , is criminal !!! God -speed Mr Rowe . Peace & good vibes from Ireland 🇮🇪☘️
To answer your question. Its simple. Artists who do not sign with major labels get black listed from being seen. Think of the social media shit called shadow banning. But on a global scale. Just keep in mind tho, not all artist seek massive fame and fortune as many make a living with what they do.
@@RUclipsgroomskids Got to get independent record labels like Epitaph or Sub-Pop records.. Both of them always been great to their artists as far as I know. Shame their isn't more towards the East Coast.. well that I know about. Seems like Sean has 14 millions on one of his songs on Spotify, hope they pay him well!
This should have 100 million views. It's that good.
I didn't think anyone could come near to Richard Thompson with this song but there's something more dangerous about James when Sean sings it 👍👍👍
I've listened to this over 30 times in the past 12hrs and I've gotten emotional each time. I find it extremely important for an artist to convince me and make me believe, this man put me there and let me see it
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
― Bob Marley
Music is pain for those who build the songs.
your response to this rendition is perfect
Am I the only one who feels it's worded wrong?
I feel it should be more like 'One thing about good music is when it hits you, you feel no pain'.
Cause let's face it all music ain't great or even half decent. 😂
@@TheEedjit: Yes, you may well be. "When". When the music hits you and not until. Sean hit the when is the 1st 3 notes. Richard Thompson is pleased by this cover.
When music hits me, I feel all the pain.
After Sean Rowe, no one should attempt to cover this tune
Every once in a while, you come across something really special. ................and this is it.
The power of this performance almost ripped a hole in the space time continuum.
I wholeheartedly agree.
This fellah is a Vincent, brutal and elegant. When he finishes I can smell hot metal and oil. The whole song is like a good fast ride on a crisp morning.
Crisp morning
Those are the words
Well said!
That’s cool I read your comment and the next song that came on was 1952 Vincent black lightning spooky
What if I said you can't smell metal, but you can smell its oxide
No, I am not fun at parties, and yes I will see myself out.
I am cheesed to meet you
When I first saw this , I had never heard of Sean Rowe or heard this song. Since then , I think I may have watched this video 500 times. It touches my soul ❤
My favourite cover of this masterpiece 👌
Love his passsion & tone!
I'm late to the party. But my god what a party. This may be the best thing in the world.
Dude looks like he just stripped down and rebuilt a busted truck engine with a hangover and found out it was the magneto all the time. Looks really pissed at something and put all that energy into killing the strings. Outstanding!, I hope your truck breaks down loads more.
my kind of guy
Michael Conroy 😂😂😂
Whoa! What an amazing voice. Makes Johnny Cash sound like a girl!
Matthew Lawson , you must be kidding.
He looks scary and sexy at the same time. He looks right out of the movies playing a Roman soldier or a Viking.
Richard Thompson sings this song from the view of the local minstrel fully aware of the beauty love, and pain of life found within the story. Sean Rowe brings the pain, the love, the power of James and Red Molly to life. Rough, raw, guttural and beautiful, most of all beautiful.
I'll take it! Thank you.
Well...Richard breathed life into this song, James, and Red Molly as no other EVER could. He wrote it after all.
@@ChrisLawton66 Yep. This song is all Richard, but Richard's sophisticated playing (can anyone reproduce his guitar fingering on this? I haven't seen it.) masks the pure human emotional story he tapped into. Sean as an artist embraces James, James isn't a sophisticated character and Sean embraces that emotional power, the humanity, of James. Raw. Powerful. Enduring.
@@funkingdedperfectly said.
Richard’s original version (and pretty much every other rendition I’ve hears) is from a narrated outside perspective.
Sean’s is the only one where it’s being sung as a first person account from the people “in” the song.
It captures the driving, rough, raw and emotional feel perfectly.
Blistering. Sean's taken a remarkable, unique song, and owned it. He looks dangerous, and sounds catastrophically fucking awesome. Great cinematography. I have to watch again. And again.
Better said. Thank you.
barely concealed danger oozes
Owned it,,,, it what way
Certainly not with his guitar play.
Compared to Thompson, correct, there aren't many who could match RT, but he puts his own stamp on the song and uses the guitar to deliver the drama of the story very effectively.
My faith in humanity is restored when I hear this.
I always feel like standing up and applauding after I've watched this.
always!
I feel like prostrating myself in humility and reverence, but to each his own.
That's what I did when he finished his concert last Friday night with this song!
It makes me feel like punching the ceiling when I listen to this
Sean Rowe doesn’t do push ups, he pushes the world down.
My God... I feel privileged to have seen and heard this.
Me to
ME TOO! 'I feel privileged to have seen and heard this'...
Love the original, beatiful tune and lyrics, but Sean here sounds like he's roaring down the highway and taking no prisoners. Bravo!
My husband and i had this as our first dance song at our wedding last year... at a motorbike rally, awesome day, awesome song.
I'm not sure how you dance to this, but love doesn't matter and bikes are worth it!
Thats amazing what a privilege that is....
Very cool 😎
Cheers friends
I could not imagine the cheers afterwords. Musta brought the house down
One of my most favourite performances
Hands down
"I'll tell you in earnest, I'm a dangerous man." Never before have I believed a statement more.
🤣
Nothing beats watching soul being poured through a man and his guitar
During the baby formula shortage in the spring of '75, young Sean was given motor oil.
Standing ovation for that bucket of fun
And not fresh motor oil!
Good one....Brilliant performer
I'm always amazed at how wild, raw and dangerous this guitar sounds. and how perfectly it fits this interpretation.
this man was born to sing this song
Man what a unique voice this guy has!
The fact that I hadn't heard of him before is criminal.
This song hits me like a train every time! More guts, soul and power than a Vincent Black Lightning 1952!
Holy shit! Ive heard this cover a thousand times but I plugged my phone into my sub woofer... It was like hearing it for the first time. The whole house was shaking
The best rendition of this song ever. No others compare.
Sunday Morning Coffee & Smoke & This , Feeling Blessed
Amazing cover - best version I've ever heard
it is good, yes,, but the best??
@@kevinarchbold3704 yep , better than the original , and better then the version Red Molly does imo...
Del McCoury's is up there
Red and black,my favourite colour scheme. You complete and utter bastard, you have just reduced me to tears.I absolutely love Richard Thompson song, but your version has such urgency and pain beyond words.Love it,absolutely love it.
Ta very much.
This maybe my favorite RUclips video ever
Agreed
I still come back to this every now and again and it still makes me feel the way it did all those years ago. Amazing
Brutal. Electric. Elegant. Shivers.
Lorraine. You. Are. Awesome. ;D
HOLY SMOKES!! What did I just witness?!! This is killer.
he does tach it up to the redline, doesn't he?
gene eric yup :)
I've watched this at least 72 times already; Sean was born to own this song.
He’s remastered a classic to utter perfection.
This is my favorite version of this. Thank you Sean Rowe
I ride....I am a musician.....this could be one of the best and most powerful songs ever written and performed for "my-kind".....A-Mfkn-Men !!! Ride until you can no longer !!! Bless Richard Thompson for writing this and stand in "Awe" as Sean Rowe sing it ! "Ride Hard until the end of the trail".......
Wow. This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. I heard Richard Thompson perform it twice in concert and it was amazing, but this was even better. Can't imagine anyone topping this.
Indeed, I've only just discovered this amazing musician!
And I'm a bit obsessed with him now
So, so Special!!..
One of the best covers of all time!
That”s a f....king amazing version of that song, at first i thought how is he going to do justice to this Richard Thompson song but he truly took it to another level.
My Dad always wanted a Vincent. A 1948 Black Shadow.
Up until his his death he was a Triumph man.
May your triumphant father rest in piece, amongst fair winds and endless roads.
Triumphs are good also
Superb. Always was a great song, but Sean's version puts it right into the mouth of young James. Not only the best version of this song I've heard, but one of the best songs I've ever heard.
love watching sean play this lovely heartfelt song with such passion, box hill is just down the road from me, big biker meet every sunday , love it!
This comes up on my RUclips recommendations every couple of days and hell, I watch it every time.
It's been so long since a song made me feel something so powerful
And two years later, this is still the best recording of 1952 Vincent black Lightning!
Why this hasn't been released as a 7", or in general, is beyond me.... Incredible guitar work.
The man takes it to another whole level
This video is like drinking an energy drink. Sean's energy is contagious. This man is a master of his craft.
Sean did an amazing job on this. Masterpiece with just a strong voice, guitar e so much felling.
I've listened to this countless amounts of times. Complete masterpiece
If this would come out on a covers album I'd buy it in a heartbeat. One of the best covers of any song and I've heard a lot of covered tunes. I just can't get enough of this cut. Sorry Richard but he took your song and may have made it better. Outstanding guitar and some serious emotion.
@@mattwatson7000 100% agree Sean knocked it out
when you understand the lyrics.....you can play , and the song makes sense.......this is a STRONG example of that!!!!!!
Outstanding version. That throbbing guitar all the way through is really frightening. Live it
It's artists like you, Otis Gibbs, Sturgill Simpson, The War On Drugs, Waylon Speed, Run The Jewels, and so forth that makes listening to music enjoyable again. This is a fantastic cover. It's just as good as The Del McCoury Band cover, which I thought couldn't be touched. Excellent job Mr. Rowe.
Was not expecting a rtj shout out!! All great music!
Seen several covers of this amazing song. This is the only one I've seen that "gets it"and not only does justice to the original but adds to it.
Holy good bloody gods this performance is... I cannot think of praise high enough to say how amazing, extraordinary, breath-taking this is!
701,852 views thus far, I feel like 700,000 of them are mine!! I cant help but play it over and over again. I build, own and ride the piss out of vintage bikes. These are hand made machines built with skill and passion, and they definitely have a soul... not like these modern day robot built products. Vincent, Matchless, Brough, J.A. Prestwich, Ariel... these are legends.
great post fish, you just made my heart smile:)
Phenomenal cover. Sadly I heard this version before the original. I like the cover a lot more. Sean Rowe’s energy makes this song come alive and more relatable.
I’ve watched and rewatched Sean Rowe tear apart this track probably fifty times over the past three years. Powerful, powerful stuff.
Epic story. Epic telling. Epic guitar playing. I wish movies would tell such stories.
this is probably the the best cover of anything ever, sean totally smashes this song, fantastic
Can't stop playing this! My wife, everyone at work, all my friends are sick of me telling them to listen to it. Just stumbled on it randomly a week ago and it's in my head 24/7. I like every version of the song but this is by far the one that punches you the hardest.
Holy shit. Stunning performance of a brilliant song. I cannot even begin to imagine how so much talent can be inside one human being. Mind. Blown.
Might be the most unique dude I've ever listened to, incredible.
I find myself coming back to this performance every now and then. It is becoming my favorite cover, and Sean Rowe is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists.
Rarely I have goosebumps. This man gave me some.
The most high-energy cover of this I've ever heard!
I still come back to this. Amazing, incredible doesn't even start to describe the performance which brings the narrative of the song into a timeless love story, urgently, where life is cheap
Listening to this for 9 years and everytime it feels like the first time. Each time I love it more!!!
Godamn it!!
Passion and Soul!!
Know the song!
Only just discovered this Man!
He's Blown me away!!!
It's been on repeat all day!
Still absolutely loving it!!
My Wife's probably had enough!
But that's married life for you!!!...
Holy shit. Amazing !!!
what an awesome performance Mr. Rowe....you owned this song all the way.... not very often I get to see someone connect with a song like this.... thank you for sharing....
Never get tired of this. Incredible musician.
This gets better every time I watch it. It's lightning in a bottle, no pun intended...well... maybe.
Without a doubt, this is the best version of this song.
I'm thankful for the diversity of opinion when it comes to music even when I thoroughly disagree.
Oh man. Come on! This is top dollar! I can see all of it in my minds eye.
Absolutely Matt, it has swagger and it needs that and a fair dose of testosterone. The original sounds like it’s a vehicle to demonstrate his fantastic fingerpicking.
Thank you Sean Rowe for singing this fantastic song
And why is this not on Spotify man? Thats crazy! Spread like wildfire. Promise!
OFF. THE. HOOK!!! Wow. Just Wow. So Amazing! I get lost in this rendition every time I hear it. Transports me to another place, builds it up, then burns it straight down to the ground, and builds it up again to end it with that guitar smoldering in ashes.
CJ + at 4:10 in the song..."Aint nothing in the world that beats a Vincent 52 and a red headed girl" :)
Makes the 'Who' sound like a schoolboy choir'! It's such a great song & these girls make a nice job of it too! ruclips.net/video/ZlumFUwKVk0/видео.html
@@johnd5941 Bang! It hits hard like a baseball bat to the chest.
@@johnd5941 it gives me chills ever single time!
I haven’t seen this in a couple years and was so excited when it popped up on my feed. This is so good
I seen a lot of great musicians, but this is one of the best performances I've ever seen. GREAT!
Great cover of a masterpiece in song writing.
Your music and voice make me dizzy with the anticipation of dancing along! I'm in a wheelchair, but I am touching up my tunage for the day I am Dancing again! You are on the short lit!
Man sometime utube pops up great stuff
Sean, this cover makes me cry every time I listen to it. The amount of emotion that you put into this song is overwhelming. Everything about this song screams hope, love, desperation, and despair. The very things that make life LIFE. I've heard the original but you bring it to life in a whole new and raw way. It would be amazing if you could to a studio version of this.
brilliant mate!
Great song the story will go any place you need to take it, it still rings true to the bone.
Fuuuuuckyeah that was awesome. Makes me wanna jump up and down sing smash guitars ride bikes smoke n drink n dance
That's what I was going for exactly
A Million views. Congrats. One of my favorite performances from Sean. I could watch it another hundred times.
Just gave my own comment a thumbs up not knowing I wrote it. 101 times.
