Changed a couple of lyrics, they rode down to Knoxville which made me smile, soooooo American, but it worked and I loved it. Great version of a truly great song, really enjoyed it.
Just saw Del this past w/e in Liberty NC ( 11/4/17 ) and for fact of matter he was strong and as good as ever . Quality of voice tremendous . Excellent showman and an American treasure .
I saw them here in Fla . FANTASTIC SHOW !! I was in a BIG audience ( many " bikers there , ZELLWOOD corn fest) & I kept screaming for THIS song ( I had the record prior , still do so I knew the relatively " new" song ) & they heard me yellin & ( over MANY other requests) chose THIS to the audiences IMMENSE pleasure !! ( some said later to me " their new favorite"!!!🤠 ( After the show , I offered to buy them a beer , but all politely refused cept the fiddle player ) ☺ we each had one & EVERYONE was SO GRACIOUS & NICE TO ME !!! ( even tho I THINK I inadvertently insulted Del with the offer of alcohol? ) SUPER NICE GUYS, ALL !! " Y'ALL COME BACK SOON , YA HEAR"🤣😁😎🤠Jeff Ball ...
Wish I had that hair. Even more, wish I had that high lonesome voice. Del McC is years older'n I am and he is still cookin. Bluegrass -- it'll keep ya young.
Me too, although I’m years older than Del, and it sure ain’t a keeping me from enjoying life and bluegrass. No point looking back, see’s what tomorrow’s gonna bring.
Playing bluegrass in shorts & flip flops awesome Del best motorcycle song I don’t know but a damn fine love song Del sings it with high lonesome love it,
I had never heard this song until I heard Robert Earl Keen's cover on his bluegrass album. I really like this song - both versions are great! Thanks for sharing this video.
Best of the best, don't think anyone can beat Del singing, great musicians, after thrashing the banjer player on other songs for being too loud I have to admit you can know the words when he plays. Great bunch.
(Few know that It's an old english " folk song"!!! ) GREAT " cover of it ( talkin to them I learned that it WAS a " cover" & they took " artists liberty" & changed Bristol to Knoxville!!😁🎼🎵🎶😎🤠
Great performance......but if you like this I have to send you to the original. This song was written by Richard Thompson; the setting is Southern England...(they ride down to Box Hill, south of London...not Nashville). Of course it is song about the most Iconic British motorcycle, the Vincent Black Lightning....still heart stoppingly beautiful and dangerous in equal parts after 70 years..... The version that I love...one that cuts rights to the bone..you'll find on RUclips as "Richard Thompson and Nanci Griffith 1952 Vincent Black Lightning" Thompson is amazing...and people who know anything of Nanci Griffith's story will know why she is there....try it.
bushbaby. If I had one I’d surely give it to you. I’ve gotten a 250 Virago will that do? Has the upswept handlebars, dare I say it, like a Harley. Y’all sitting way back and down.
Check out Josh Turner/Carson McKee doing this song at Josh Turner Guitar channel. Two young guys doing this song a la Del. They're fabulous. Its not the country star Josh Turner. Explore his channel. You will be amazed at his talent.
@ALS Yes indeed, that young Josh Turner is a mind-blowing talent ... which is why other great musicians love to jam with him. Great recommendation my friend.

Jason Carter, one of the finest musicians...ever.
Del is a gift to this world
Del&Boys....YES!!
Incredible song, and I love how the DMB does it!! Sweet!!
I ride a ‘52 Vincent. They are better than any song can credit them. Although the music is a wonderful addition to a passion. Good work lads.
Wow. I see a '51 sold at auction for $962,000.
Wish I had that hair. Even more, wish I had that high lonesome voice. Del McC is years older'n I am and he is still cookin. Bluegrass -- it'll keep ya young.

Waaaahoooooo!
Love this song in all its forms.
Simply the best.
This is the Version I like the best
Del and a Martin good combo.
Always finish listening with a picture of Molly riding out of the hospital parking lot.
For sure. And I bet she drove it like she stole it which she did!!
I picture her pregnant with his baby then giving the bike to his red headed son
Best of the best, don't think anyone can beat Del singing, great musicians, after thrashing the banjer player on other songs for being too loud I have to admit you can know the words when he plays. Great bunch.
I love how Del always has creases in his jeans!! I’m sure he’s got a great wife!
Fantastic!
Pretty cool take on Richard Thompson's song.
(Few know that It's an old english " folk song"!!! ) GREAT " cover of it ( talkin to them I learned that it WAS a " cover" & they took " artists liberty" & changed Bristol to Knoxville!!😁🎼🎵🎶😎🤠
@@jeffball3018 Boxhill not Bristol
@@priyaxo8116Exactly!!! It’s Boxhill in Sussex. The petrol station on the A24 is/was a famous biker hangout due to the set of bends nearby.
Oh, yes!!!

I did,and I did like it but for me del is perfect on this tune.☺️
Knoxville not Nashville?
Thompson came to DelFest in 2018 and the sang it together. Thompson easily changed the key to A from B Flat and it all sounded awesome.
Richard has that wonderfully growling baritone voice ... unmistakable.
only Del could pull off a bluegrass version
he is the best
Mr McCoury took this song from Richard T and made it his own and better...best version ever
Awesome band! And that Kennedy banjo Rob plays has a definite great sound, at least to me anyways..
A song about James and Molly , a sad song !
This is my favorite Del tune besides Get Down On Your Knees and Pray.
Thank Richard Thompson, he wrote the song.
That's the high lonesome sound right there. I wonder what Richard thinks?
I'm laughing at the words that were coming up on the closed caption.....they were definitely NOT the words to the song.....LMAO
Some more credit to Richard Thompson is needed in this comment section.
yes sir live vincent 52 no better...DEL..
Royalty. I do miss the dress code coats and ties though....
I wish someone would give me a 52 vincent.
bushbaby. If I had one I’d surely give it to you. I’ve gotten a 250 Virago will that do? Has the upswept handlebars, dare I say it, like a Harley. Y’all sitting way back and down.

Great recommendation my friend.

Let me find the 6 thumbs-downers. An education in southern hospitality will surely ensue.
James Douglas I thought the same thing. Who the hell could give this beautiful song and del a thumbs down. They truly need an education
6 people ride mopeds
Knoxville boxhill hey cheek;)
"The Motorcycle Song"... not to be confused with a certain Arlo Guthrie composition. 😀
What pickers!!
4 thumbs down. you need help.
no sound
Bit too YEE-HAH for me....
I'm a bit upset that Del McCoury doesn't name-check Richard Thompson. He not only wrote it but performs the best version of it.
... like assholes ...
audio needs some help.
he is the best
