    Love anything Dr Reiter says. Type 1 diabetic here, late 6th generation and have been taking 60mg of Pure Bulk melatonin since I first heard him talk, several years ago. Think it is time I double my dose, not because of diabetic issues ( normal A1C) or APOE4 genes ( don’t have), but because I don’t want any issues! This man is genius and I gifted my doctor his book. Even though it has been in print for years, the data remains the same, if not more favorable.

    Years ago I read the book Melatonin Miracle. It said there was a study that melatonin supplementation extended the lifespan of mice by about 30%. When I got a new golden retriever puppy, I decided to try that on my dog to see if it had a beneficial effect. Last week my golden had her 15th birthday and is doing quite well. That's especially remarkable because 2 years ago she miraculously survived a 100 foot fall off a cliff. Three years ago she got a couple of mass cell tumors within 2 months. We then put her on a keto human food diet, and she's had no tumors since then. All the golden retrievers we knew that were her age died years ago.

    Thank you for sharing this information. I had a lecture from Prof Reiter that he mentioned only 5% of melatonin are secreted by the Pineal grand, which will go to our blood circulation, responsible for the circadian rhythm, but 95% melatonin in our body are made in the mitochondria within our cells, which do not release to the blood stream. Regarding the cancer development, it would be likely because of the dysfunction of the mitochondria in our cells. I am wondering how we take melatonin supplement orally can help in preventing the cancer growth, it helps in the circadian rhythm, but how it could help in the mitochondrion melatonin in the cellular level. Is it possible to get into the cells/mitochondria if we take melatonin orally? Thanks a lot !

    • @RicciFlowNutrition
      @RicciFlowNutrition  Год назад +4

      Thanks for the comment. I think these are largely open questions. Most of the melatonin produced in the body is extrapineal. Our mitochondria appear to generate it in large quantities to deal with ROS. NIR light and exercise appear to drastically increase plasma melatonin, presumably to deal with the increase in ROS production. This plasma melatonin is then taken up by cells where it is needed. Cancer development as it relates to melatonin is tricky. A recent publication in Nature suggests that breast cancers are more active during the night when melatonin is highest (see my podcast with Daniel P. Cardinali). I believe that oral melatonin will increase plasma levels (transiently) before it is taken up by the cells. This is why melatonin is effective in metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. I wish I had the answers, but unfortunately most of this is still up in the air.
      Hope that helps!

      I am not aware of any evidence that this can happen. I think it's safe to say very little is known about the effects of long-term melatonin supplementation. My suspicion is that calcification can occur as a result of nutrient imbalances (excess fluoride likely plays a primary role) and exposure to environmental hazards like non-native electromagnetic fields.
