- I saw this sheep who needed help, good thing his pal was there to help me catch him! After catching him we gavehim a full shear to help him to not be stricken again.
We help a lot of our sheep with our Handypiece portable sheering handpiece, it really helps us treat these sheep quickly.
This video was made possible by our channel sponsor, Handypiece LTD.

I like how, once he was caught, he just gave up and didn't move. I wish my cats were this easy to work with.
Give it up. 🤣🤣🤣
Spicy Kitty burritos are the answer- never go into combat without your towel. 😂
Dogs have masters & cats have "staff" 🤣
@@KevinD_33x150 It is: Dogs have masters and Cats have servants.
@@cjhs77338 If you want to be really specific, the original is: Dogs have masters, cats have slaves.
Pre-dates both our previous comments by decades.
I can't imagine how uncomfortable the poor thing must be. He just lays there. He knows MR FARMER is gonna make it all better. 👍
I feel so bad for the sheep that get this. How horribly uncomfortable. Thank you for watching and being on top of this horrible problem!
I must say that is an excellent set of shears and that the sheep was astoundingly docile once caught, it is either very well trained or it understood that were there to help.
Yeah the Handypiece is a great tool.
Yeah poor little guy wasn't feeling well. Now it's healthy it wouldn't be as pliable 😅
lol!
Sheep don’t understand when you are trying to help them definitely
Sheep react that way naturally, they are prey animals. They give up accepting their fate, so to speak.
@@heavystarch100 i dont know about that. Prey animals are surprisingly ruthless when theyre threatened. It would not be in any snimals best interests to just lay down and die
It must be very painful for the sheep to eaten alive by maggots. And also a loss for the farmer. Glad you helped this sheep, wish his fleece coming back soon
that is a real quality set of battery powered shears .. I have never heard of fly strike ..78 years old and learning something new every day .
Yes our Handypiece portable shearing handpiece is fantastic. I would highly recommend it to anyone who keeps sheep or other shear-able stock. We've used one on the farm for years, long before we started RUclips.
. *THERE MUST BE A SPECIAL PLACE IN HEAVEN FOR THOSE WHO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED.*

No… a place in hell for allowing this animal to suffer
His friend pushed him like "he's the one you want! His ass stinks with the maggots!!" 😂😂😂
😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That sheep was like "Scary human wants you Bro. get away from us."
😅
I saw a sheep with this condition, told the farmer but he didn't give a sheet so I reported him to the RSPCA.
Here I thought you were holding on to his legs with your foot. Poor guy was thankful for your help he stayed still till you were done. Very cool...
God bless and keep the suffering animals in this world and bless the hidden angels who help them like this man is doing. ❤
Oh my word, this poor baby!!! I have never heard of such a thing! Glad you fixed it, Thankyou for being a good sheep looker after!
You mean farmer/sheppard ?
Geez those flies are terrible! Amazing the damage they do to those poor sheep.
Poor sheep. Fly strike is bloody awful. I can't imagine how uncomfortable and painful it must be.
It's always great when we can treat them and send them on their way. We want our sheep comfortable and healthy!
Sheep are hard work, my brother used to help one of our friends with lambing. Have you read the Henry Brewis books? My friends farm sheep in the Ingram Valley in Northumberland near the Scottish border and found the books hilarious. One of the things that struck them as particularly true was "The purpose of a sheep is to consume the maximum amount of medication before dying unexpectedly".
I’ll look up those books, we’ve read and have the DVDs for James Harriot All Creatures great and small.
The first sign of your sheep being sick, is the sheep being dead
Haha! I haven't heard of them until today. Will give them a look Thanks.
It sounds so true. It's like the dilemma that the sheep will be difficult in direct relation to the need they be mustered 😅
Omg. What a miserable life. Just because they can give us the wool😢
I really like how you answer peoples questions. The best ive seen.
Oh the relief. I feel better for him.
You truly care about your animals ❤️
i was impressed when the other sheep helped you catch the fly-sheep.
i guess sheep are no dummies.
I don’t know why, but this was comforting to watch. Despite that rancid rump.
Aw, poor sheepie! I was watching this on mute and giving the sheep a little pep-talk as he was being shorn
🤭
These sheep are shaped regularly so this is nothing new to them they are accustom to the sound and the activity. Plus once he starts to sheer the relief of the biting feels good to them it’s like having your back scratched when your skin is peeling from a sun burn.
God bless the shepherd for treating the sheep.
That looked painful!
We had sheep for 7 years we didn't have this issue which I'm glad for bless you
I'm glad for you that you didn't experience this issue. I wish we didn't have it, it's not a fun job and of course isn't pleasant for our sheep.
I'm sure
What a tremendous job and appreciate
Your taking care of them.
Fly blow, i so hated that when i was working in the shearing sheds back in my younger days.
Poor old sheep! Now I understand why Sandi Brock is so insistent on treating her newborn lambs to prevent flystrike.
Fortunately the fly season starts after the lambing season is finished otherwise we would have to do the same here.
Never heard of that one . And I talk to a lot of shepherds
That must have felt sooo good! ❤️
What an amazing Job. You have your work cut out for you on a daily basis and do such a wonderful job. I love this channel.
Thank you so much!
Kinda made me itch but I know mr sheep feels so much better.
Glad you help this situation
that sheep really did play dead, i have never seen that before, they normally struggle and fight until they get them in the shearing hold
Thank you for your work and sharing it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Бедная овечка,вмя инфецирована, как же ей было плохо,спасибо!❤
That shave must be deeply satisfying for the sheep 🐑.. god bless u and your farm.. new subscriber ❤❤❤
The other sheep was like, “ Hey man. You ain’t getting the whole lot of us infested. Get on over there with Mr farmer.” Tbh, I really think they ran into each other on accident. 😅
Which type of disease is this? and does the animal gets relief.

Is the rump (or general rump area) more susceptible to flystrike than other parts of a sheep's body?
It is. Bodily functions that occur in that zone can attract flies and start the process. It can occur on other parts of the body though. Thanks for your question.
@@FarmWithMeNZ Thanks for the answer :)
Yes bc when the fleece is long sheep tend to gather more poop on their back end which draws flies. It's not a fun thing to have. And can happen in as little as 12 hours
They go for the back, because sheep can’t rub that part on anything, to get rid of them
For some reason I was thinking about a little kick in the butt so it would get up and he actually did it. 😂
Poor sheep. That looks so painful!
I sure wish dog clippers worked that well😂
Interesting. But what is flystrike? Something to do with flies. I get that. But what exactly happens? A little thesaurus wouldn’t go amiss.
Here is a video we made explaining it. ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
How many dogs do you have and I like your video keep them coming matee
I've got 3 dogs currently, and the drone!
I am going to love these job. Helping an animal in distress while rampaging those bastards. Though I am itching everywhere.

What causes this exactly and how does it hurt the sheep 😮
The Australian green blowfly lays live maggots on the sheep that crawl down and start biting the sheep causing a wound.
Basically, the maggots start eating the animal's flesh. It's potentially fatal if left untreated for long enough. Horrible disease.
Thank you for the information, I'd never heard of that before. Do you burn the fleece that you just sheared off???
@@crystalcooper1358good question.... just saw in another comment that it goes in the compost! I guess where bugs should be 😅
Blowflies will be attracted to soiled fur, wool or feathers of animals and depending on the species of blowfly they'll deposit live larvae or eggs on the animal and they begin attacking, infesting and consuming the live tissues of the animal producing open wounds, some species will only consume dead or badly infected tissues (and such a species is cultured in highly controlled and sterile conditions for medical purposes to this day) but usually it's the ones that target living tissue that can be a real problem. In animals it's called flystrike or being flystricken but the general term for an infestation of parasitic larvae is myiasis, but I wouldn't google that one if you're eating if I were you. Naturally having insects creating an open wound is bad, harms the animal and damages the fleece, prevention and catching it early are important.
I don't have a smallholding (so please correct me if I'm mistaken) but I'm surrounded in mixed arable-livestock farms, from what I can tell it's pretty common practice to dock the long tails of sheep breeds that have long wooly tails when they're very young by applying tight rubber bands that cut off perfusion and the tail dies and drops off as they represent a surface that can get soiled easily.
Really painful! I hope the insecticide spray didn’t make it worse.
The sheep is happy and healthy now.

why were the other sheep shaun and not this one
Lambs and ewes are in different sharing schedules. Also some pesky sheep do a great job hiding at sharing time and need to be shorn when they are finally captured.
😢😢😢😢😢😢Poor thing
Not to be a glass half empty kind of guy, but maybe you should have led with what flystrike is for those of us that don't know.
Sorry about that, here is a video that explains it in detail.

Just found these videos, what is fly strike? Is it just a maggot infestation?
Here's a video we made explaining how and why this happens ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
did you dress the sheep with ivermectin?
No, we use a special insect growth inhibitor.
Yeat, I dont understand how sheep is so calm, even when u started to shave its belly
Have u inject smth into that is not seen on the video?
No, the sheep just gave up trying and allowed me to save it thankfully.
Poor baby
Poor thing, that looked so painful. What was all the excess bruising from?
That's caused by flystrike, although it might be exacerbated by the sheep trying to rub affected areas against things like fences or trees to ease the pain.
Poor love that looked sore xx
HOLY CRAP!
😖 Poor sheeps ! This reminds me so much when I was grooming my Bichon Frisé, it was 100% exactly the same without the maggots : wooly curly fur dreadlocks that traps dirt and nasty things underneath, finding eczema skin lesions with pus underneath the matte and tangles , that was forming a blood crust and I had to trim off all her hair so the skin can breath and heal.
Except that the dog trimmer’s combs are made of plastic so the comb breaks when you pull through the fur tangles. That’s what I needed: a metal trimmer for sheeps.
And « docile like a lamb » my bichon was undergoing the trim like this sheep without rebellion 😂.
成虫したハエが、たくさん飛び回っていてさらに、マンゴーワームも、ウジャウジャいて、痒いんだろうねぇ。でも、おとなしく、毛刈りしているのをみて、飼い主さんを、信用していますね。
Can the wool be used or is it trash?
It goes in the compost, it is good fertiliser.
What about sunburn? That has to hurt. 😢
Ideally you would use a cover comb for this to prevent sunburn, it depends on the time of year and how bad that instance of strike actually is.
I was thinking more about the cold, sheep suddenly lost any protection against the cold, but I suppose that’s not an issue if it’s summer time in this video.
Sunburn doesn't eat your flesh day after day.
Don’t the pink skins get sunburnt after clipping ?
What do you think he should have done?
At some times of the year sunburn can be an issue. Depending on the severity of the flystrike we can use a cover comb on the shearing Handypiece which would be more like a buzz cut than a shave. However this isn't always suitable. We do our best to give our sheep the best outcome possible.
Are the sheep in a lot of pain with this??
Yes, it would be very uncomfortable.
Tadinho 😞 morto de cansado 😫😢😢😢😢😢...
What do you do with the maggots that come off the sheep?
Fertiliser.
How long will it take for the wound to heal ?
Only a day or two for it to start healing over. Here's a video with some before and after videos of some sheep with the same situation. ruclips.net/video/18-VRph1LTU/видео.html
Nice clippers, that looks like a burn😮
Yeah they are great. Yeah looks bad.
Wool is a mothereffer !!! 😮
Does the spray n treatment help with infection and bug bite i hope? Pain too?
Can it kill the sheep. Like are the flies or maggots actually would eat through them?
Yes it can kill them, it's why we keep a close eye and treat the sheep as soon as we see a problem. It can be an entry point for infection.
I remember sheep dip as a kid is it still used
Can you give them some fly deterrent as prophylaxis?
Hello sir. I’m building a farm in the Philippines. I have a pair of water buffalo cows and some pigs. I want to add dairy goats and sheep to my stock. The forage is plenty and overgrown on most of the plantations locally. What educational material would you recommend for the sheep. Lambing and kidding will be similar. Treatment for parasites will be similar. I know nothing of these skin issues and tropical climates
is that a Perendale ,and are some breeds more susceptible to fly strike ?
It's a romeny breed sheep. Yes some are more susceptible.
How does this happen? Is it poor management by the farmer or is just a normal occurrence?
Can be both. Here is a video explaining it ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
poor sheep, maybe look more often for that flystrike? the sheep was really in distress.
Flystrike isn't noticeable until the damage is done but you'd very very surprised and happy to realise that sheep heal very quickly and the time it takes you to think about what's for dinner, the sheep has forgotten what has just happened. Sheep feel more distress being away from their mob more than anything else.
I hate flies
Sadly we need them.
Circle of life.
Lol
Is this common in all sheep?
No, only in areas where those flies are present.
He looks pretty sick this sheep, did
The farmer put stuff on to stop it,
What is a fly strike?
Here is a video explaining it. ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
Does sheering over the strike cause pain for them? Or does it feel good
I imagine a bit of both, but once shorn no more maggots.
If i believed in heaven you would be the most deserving of it
What is fly strike please?
Check out this video to learn all about it. ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
Wait, the flies start attacking and eating the sheep en masse? Oh my gosh…..how horrible. I hate flies. How do you save the sheep?
No they lay there eggs on the sheep which hatch into lava or maggots which then eat away at the top layers of flesh causing pain and infection.
But how are they getting to this state with the flystrike? Is there something that can prevent it? If yes, why are they not getting preventative treatment?
Here are some videos explaining it ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/L2oWT6JzuQE/видео.html
And I thought maggots ate only dead flesh.
If only!
The farmer should be ashamed to ignore this
The farmer didn't ignore this. You just watched him take care of the sheep! He saw the problem and acted appropriately.
it just amaze me, sheep will stay frozen like that after you catch them.. is that their defensive mechanisme, play dead?
That's a good observation. For some reason once subdued they typically don't thrash about. Maybe it's a part of being a domesticated animal for so long.
What struck him?
Ooo that looks nasty. Lucky you got it. Now he’ll get a sunburn
I'm sure the farmer will keep an eye on her. Maybe get her some factor 50 and a sun bonnet. 😂
My god🤦♀️
