- While drafting these lambs and ewes I spotted the first flystrike of the season. Luckily I caught it early and was able to treat her immediately.

That poor sheep is being eaten alive. Omg😱 thank you for taking care of it. Now the sheep could frolic and play without the discomfort.
Too late for the sheep.
What a relief for the sheep. Thank you.
imagine how good that must feel to back in the pasture with your peers without itches and pain
Can you imagine feeling those little suckers chewing at your flesh and you can’t scratch it lol
Thank you for helping her
my dad goes bananas at me if i shear them cause some guy said the wool holds the dip on and to just dip them, but he goes bananas at me for everything i do, spraying, fencing, using the tractor, using the bike, he calls me every horrible name imaginable and says i bankrupt the farm...i wish i could implement 1 idea here but that would be asking too much.
Then quit. I might be wrong, but it doesn't sound like he appreciates your work very much.
@@criticallard2090 if I was able bodied I would. No one else will employ me because I have an injury. I work hard here but yeah he just yells and screams. I'd I sprayed black berry that he let go like wildfire I'd come in "what did you do that for KEEP OFF THE PLACE!"
Putting dip over and all around the strike is just fine. We run over 20,000 sheep on 120,000 acres, trust my 65 years of experience. Your method is perfect…less stress a bare skin and not exposed to the elements Sounds like you have the old bull, young bull problem. Good luck.
@@pauljosseif you cam work for him you can work elsewhere. Even an online or over the phone job can work. Can you at least get disability? I don't know where you live though so i dont know the options.
Someone on disability told me that places will pay you to talk online with people from other countries to learn conversational English. That can boost income as well.
Honestly that wound was bad! The maggots and secretions of the wound had started to build up into the long hair strands! Those sheers weren’t a true match for that situation. You need new shears. It’s sad how some farmers will spot flystrike but try to wait and get much more growth from a sheep’s wool. Imagine the pain and suffering. That was nasty and very bad!
Are blades dull? Or is cordless sheets not strong? Looks like a mess
Das Schaf ist dir so dankbar, dass du es vom Ungeziefer befreit hast! Gute Arbeit! ❤
New fear unlocked.
😅
Might consider a little bit better quality of sheep shears you look like you’re having difficulty with those ones😊great video
My Handpiece (portable shearing handpiece) is actually fantastic, this is a reflection on me and the conditions, not the equipment!
@@FarmWithMeNZ Plus aren't you cutting through dried scab material also? Sounded crunchy lol
This looks like the same tool my hairstylist used on me yesterday.
Any trimmers would struggle getting through mucky wool. Shaving through an area that's been oozing bodily fluids is always challenging even for the best equipment.
You rock! Way to take care of your kids. 👍
Thanks! You answered a lot of my questions. Very informative
Looks like you need sharper sheers.
Собачки такие умные, хозяюшки❤
Awesome job. Can't imagine how awful ot must feel.
sending him lots of love hugs strength kisses and prayers 💖 💕. 💓 ❤ 😘 💗 💖 💕. 💓 ❤ 😘
Thank you for helping this precious animal
Sweet fancy Moses that looked nasty
What causes the discoloration in the wool? Is it old blood?
Yes, old dried blood and hardened blood scab wounds.
Chur bro, nicely done!!!
That’s not a close shear you just did. No wonder some of the flesh was rotten green
Someone said this is animal cruelty smh this can happen to any sheep he clearly caught it early and is taking care of it
Wow, never seen such a thing! But we only had cattle with bot flies and hogs.
Causes? Just flies laying eggs? Healthy skin?
Woah thats nasty i couldnt immagine having that on me
Looks like a beautiful part of the world
It is! New Zealand is great! 🇳🇿
@@FarmWithMeNZ 👍
All the other sheep will laugh at her without her pants 😂
😅
Does the spray include anything to soothe the skin?
Can anything be done to prevent the fly strike?
Must check regularly 😮😮😮
Absolutely horrid, I’m glad we didn’t have to deal with that with the cows. Nothing disgusts me more than maggots. Hope she feels better soon
Most of our flock that are afflicted by flystrike go on to make a full recovery. 😊 It's definitely not a nice part of the job, but it comes with the territory.
Why do flies targeted that particular sheep over the others?
Sometimes one sheep is weaker or dirtier than the others. Often a sheep that is infested will be struck more than once if you don't watch it carefully. Thanks for watching.
The merino sheep also has skin folds, like giant deep wrinkles, this also contributes to flystrike.
Looks like that's been there for a while spreading. So glad it was discovered and corrected. Good job!
Gets bigger as you shear her. I thought it looked like a small area. 😊
I know!!
Is there a way to prevent this
i thought maggots only ate dead flesh?
Geez I have never seen anything like that.
Oh my gosh, looks horrible. Poor sheep
So if the fly strike is really bad would she have to be kept separate from her flock??
Yes sometimes we keep them nearer to home in order to keep an eye on them after treatment. It's not contagious in any way though.
3:01 Barber school?
Does she have a wound why would they be there if no wound ?
Here's a video explaining it ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
So your saying there does not have to be a wound first then.?
Nope the flies create one.
Do you #crutch the #sheep in early #spring?
You would think ivermectin would stop that
Ew DEEsgusting maggets! Thanks for helping that poor sheep :)
This sheep was not lost but why the farmer waited for too long to care about this poor animal or the farmer waited to shave and show us for fame?
Are those shears designed to cut only the wool and not the skin?
Yeah, they are for shearing sheep, really useful tool.
I think you should sharpen those blades
Me too!
Get sharper clippers
When were these ewes shorn? They seem far too long wool for this time of year to me.
Ap in magots pe Got back powder dala kare y khud hi mar jaenge bahr aa k
I can only imagine what that smells like
Can you prevent these fly strikes ?❤❤
You can, if you only have 2 or 3 sheep, by keep monitoring them daily, and applied anti bacterial liquid, if you have thirty or hundreds sheep, just pray to God for his mercy, so the fly didn't infest your cattle.
Looks like he could do with some new shears
Yeah gotta keep replacing the blades.
Is there not a preventative treatment so it doesn’t happen?
There is! And we utilize it on a regular schedule, however a small percentage of our flock is unfortunately affected anyway. We do our best to be vigilant and catch instances of flystrike as fast as possible.
@@FarmWithMeNZ thanks from a city Canadian girl, never been around sheep.
What is the spray for?
Fly deturant, insect growth inhibitor.
Why farmers wait until the last minute when they start getting worse?😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
All for RUclips unfortunately. People fake dangerous situations for animals just to save them on camera for clicks and likes.. Horrible
Please wear gloves
I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but I'm putting on a damn HAZMAT suit if I'm out there fighting like this
Why do you care? Not your farm, doesn’t affect you.
Yes, wear gloves...
myob
So they kill these animals or just use their wool
Zero expert here but them shears sound like they need to be dressed up a bit. Good on ya for taking care of em.
Yeah, we chat ge out the comb and cutter often, these may have been toward the end of the sharp stage.
How does this happen?
The Australian green blowfly lays live maggots on the sheep that crawl down and start biting the sheep causing a wound.
Here is a video explaining it ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
Why not remove the maggots.
So many in such a small area. Poor sheepy.
These sheep are usually free range grazing on our 1000 acre station, they're only brought into the yards like this for specific care.
lol what happened?
It was really hard to see anything. The camera was moving too much.
Will try steady it. Thanks
Disgusting.. glad you removed the maggots 🎉
How has this happened
Here is a video explaining it ruclips.net/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/видео.html
Does fly strike have A bad stinch❔
Yeah, smells bad.
Must be your first day with those clippers!!!
We found the armchair sheep herder.
@@NC-123-45 lol l get it lol😊
What’s that smell?
Terrible 😟
Is there any way to prevent this?
Yeah we use a deturant. Only problem is that it can't be used before sharing or it spoils the wool.
It also has a withholding period with meat so there are times where they are in between treatments.
Bring all the herd of sheep, into the #shearing-shed. "Crutch" means shearing the bottom & back-end of the sheep. It is best to crutch the sheep in early to mid-spring before the flies. Also, it is important to bring the sheep in the sheep yards to inspect regularly through the spring before sheep are #fully-shorn of their wool.😊
Get sharp shearers dang
Get a better pair of sheets. Man that was painful
You need some sharp shears
Wish u would’ve showed more of the maggots
I know right??? There aren't many videos as well. This has become my new addiction 😂😂😂
Next time I'll try.
yay! thanks sooo much. some of us weirdos get immense pleasure watching you shave them buggers off lol@@FarmWithMeNZ
😮😮😮
I don't think I'd want to farm with someone slamming sheep heads in gates, and can barely figure out how to use clippers
sir, do compilation of all flystrike video in 2023, put them all together. before new year, and do it every year.
That is a good idea. Will have to aim for next year 😅
@@FarmWithMeNZ
And I don't want to be a farmer anymore
Did you cut the sheeps tail off?😳(no tail)
That poor sheep, what an aweful state it is in. Being eaten alive by maggots. Man o man, can they be looked after better than that?
Sharpen your clippers
Yes sir!
Imagine if we farmed children, just think about that for a second.....
C'est dégoûtant pauvre bete😢😢😢😢😢😢

What a lousy job

Не хрена себе. Баян.
What is going on with the trimmers you’re trying? You should just use a spoon or butter knife!! 3:33
Ma poi le medicate o non Ve ne frega niente
Mostly always medicated with something. Unless it's small.

How does that get that bad??? Your sheep? Why you let it get to this point? To make a video? You could be reported animal cruelty. When your pet has maggots
Согласна, как такое можно было допустить?
It’s not animal cruelty smh it can happen to any sheep obviously! Hr caught it early and is treating it
😂😂 City folk are wild lol. He treated it as soon as he found it, which BTW he caught it early. Your animals are out in a pasture not living in your house every day
how to tell that youre a city folk without telling that youre a city folk
It's a farm animal, not a "pet"
Du bist kein Schäfer du kannst nicht einmal deine Schafe Schären
надо взять нормальный инструмент для стрижки, чтобы не мучить животное😢😢😢😢
This tool is made specially for shearing sheep, it's the best tool for the job and does not cause the sheep any discomfort.
