Thank you Monte. Very informative and beneficial pertaining to best places to learn Spanish. I will be moving next year to Merida and plan to attend classes at La Calle and bring my Atl. hand held church fans so we know how hot it can be inside. I am looking forward to relearning Spanish. Thank you so much for assisting us expats to prepare to move to Merida from preparing for visa, what to expect in Merida, rent, cost of living, ins., and so much more. You 're a blessing to many of us. Thank you a million times over for your knowledge, support, and sharing your experiences. Can't wait to arrive in Merida. Love and blessings to all..
Thank you so much for the review. I will be looking for further details about La Calle. I am an introvert, don't like speaking in classes where the course is in English, will definitely have difficulty speaking in a Spanish class. Certainly don't mind the heat either. Will let you know how it goes when I come back.
Glad to hear you have plans to live in Mexico for 15 to 20 years! It will happen in a blink. Learning the language takes you to the other level of understanding many of what happens surrounding your daily life in Mexico for sure
Another informative one! Got some really good notes from this. If I had to choose, I would go with La Calle, as the best overall value. I'm familiar with Habla as well, and they have their strong points. Thanks again Monte!
Personally, it depends on if you learn better online or if you want that in person interaction which is also better for practice. Taking classes here and also having conversations in person with others will only sharpen your skill. Good luck! I tried online only because of the pandemic and I’d rather do classes in person.
Very good breakdown and distinction between the two schools. What are your thoughts on learning Spanish in Guatemala? I heard it’s easier to learn Spanish there and it’s inexpensive. Or do you think if someone knows they will be relocating to Mexico, they should just learn Spanish in Mexico?
I think learning in any Spanish speaking environment is best whether Guatemala or Mexico doesn’t matter much. I would definitely take classes in Antigua if I were there for an extended amount of time.
Love your show. You played an important part in my traveling to Mexico. I wanted to get your opinion on purchasing a vehicle in Mexico. I currently reside in Puebla, Mexico. I wanted to purchase used but in my area there near to the cost of new in my view. Do you have references or resources that you trust to share for new or used autos? Also, do you have recommendations on auto insurance? I must say, I've heard a lot about being jailed if you have an accident; this is not a warm fuzzy feeling. What's your experience or view on the dangers of driving in Mexico? By the way, I lived in Fayetteville, Ga. for several years before moving to Fairburn, Ga. Again, I love your videos.
Hey Carnell. Thanks man I really appreciate the feedback. I have a contact in Merida that I recommend for cars but I don’t know how helpful he would be in Pueblo. Check out the video about buying cars. He is in featured there. I have a policy through AxA. Send me a message from my website and I’ll send you my agents information. I have no concerns about driving in the Yucatan but the police are not like other states.
Hey Monte, thanks for the breakdown. I’m doing some research because my brother (in his early 20s) has been thinking about doing an immersion program in Merida. Are there any good immersion programs you know of for a few weeks or a month, catered more for young adult students/people in their 20s?
Lots of young students attend La Calle and stay in hostels near the school. They typically have students from all over Europe. I know that they also have home stays. I recommend that you reach out to them and see if they can give you more information.
How would one be able to find an affordable place to sleep there? What if someone chooses to go fo 4 weeks? Seems like a lot of hotel money tbh. Is there a cheaper option?
The school offers home stays for a reasonable price and many of the students from Europe stay in hostels. From what I understand Merida has some nice ones close to the school.
Thanks for the info! I really need to improve my Spanish and need the structure of lessons. I m easy distracted and online lessons and apps aren't working. Do you have any experience with lessons outside of immersion? I have heard about a school called Hola but would appreciate any info you may have.
I’ve done online as well. I prefer the group classes. I haven’t tried Hola yet. I would also recommend Qroo Spanish, butterfly Spanish, and spring Spanish on RUclips. I made a video with some other suggestions.
Hi Monte! Thank you for another great video! I am planning on coming in September to take Spanish classes and experience living in Merida. I don’t know any Spanish but I am open and eager to learn. With that being said, which school would you suggest for someone who doesn’t know any Spanish?? Also, I am hoping to come in the summer to explore housing options. Can you assist me with a one-on-one call? Thanks in advance - Sabrina
Hey Sabrina. Either school will help you from square 1 to fluency. If you are interested in learning more of the language than culture I would recommend La Calle. You can book a 1x1 coaching session at this link www.mexitplans.com/plans-pricing And if you want to build a proven plan to move here check out the new course that is on pre-sale. mexitplans.thinkific.com/courses/moving-to-mexico I look forward to helping you with your dream of moving to Mexico.
Sounds similar like they teach language in schools here in the states. Which in my opinion is not conducive to learning the language very quickly. I like and prefer the natural conversational style much better which is how we learn language not by learning present and past tense when ch of course is beneficial but it take time and for me boring.
This was nothing like how I learned in schools in the states. First it’s full immersion only in spanish from the beginning. Neither school uses English to teach. Secondly, the focus isn’t on grammar. Natural language learning is best done at an early age. My little one is a great example of this as she is completely Fluent in two languages. For adults, immersion in the new language is the best option, in my opinion.
Thank you! This was very helpful. Just moved to Merida (in santiago) and trying to figure out which makes the most sense.
You are welcome.
Nice job! As you know, most expats don't make much of an effort to learn the language. But not you! You are setting an example to follow. Keep it up!
Thanks. I’ve been binge watching your Spanish channel. Tour videos on subjunctive helped me while I was in class at Habla.

Everybody in there will feel the same way. Learning a language is hard and requires us to get out of our comfort zones.

For sure. I was basically illiterate when we moved here. Now I’m not so I completely understand what you mean.
Good information, thanks for sharing
My pleasure.

Rachel you are more than welcome. I have a new video featuring La Calle coming up soon.

Great info! I’ve been doing online at night due to work, but this seems like it would really speed things up for me.
Glad it was helpful!
Well this was a really good video! Great information on how important it is, if you plan on living in another country, to learn the language. 😁
Indeed! Thanks for watching
Thank you so much 🥺🥺🥺🥺
You're welcome!
Thanks for this video! I’m debating between taking classes online vs in Merida . It’s so good to know what options are in Merida!

So, for an advanced student who wants to get to complete fluency, are you suggesting that La Calle is the best option?
Yes. I’m taking my second week of consecutive classes next week. It will definitely help you improve regardless of your level.
Do these language schools have their own teaching materials or they "borrow" it from other sources?
Own.
