We have found that the best deals are found in Facebook groups pertaining to the area of interest and not just "expat" groups. Look for groups that are more for locals. The absolute best way to find deals is feet on the ground. Walking or driving the neighborhoods and writing down phone numbers. Good vlog. Im looking forward to seeing more.

Wow the prices are unbelievable.. do you have to be fluent in Spanish??? Can Americans own property in Mexico??? Food costs??? I hope you are doing well and bless you and your family…Really looking to get out of the USA…
Yes, the prices in the US for rent, medical, etc are crazy and that's one of the reasons why we moved. Speaking Spanish is not a requirement to live in Merida. There are many foreigners mainly in the Merida Centro area and many business owners or staff may speak English. However, I highly recommend learning some Spanish if you plan to live in Mexico as it's very helpful with conducting business and getting around. Americans can own property if they become Mexican residents. You can apply for your Mexican residency and then purchase property, cars, etc. However, you do not need residency to rent houses, cars. Food in general is pretty cheap IF you are not in tourist driven areas. I think that we spend about a 1/3 on food in comparison to what we spent in the states. You can call and speak perhaps with Michael Henry, Lilian, Raul or Augustin. They are very nice and helpful. They have a website called casamerida.mx with rental listings of all Mérida where you can plug in your location preferences, pricing, rooms, etc. Mérida is a city where you can find many of the best rentals just by riding in neighborhoods as most locals don't typically post online, rather prefer to use signs "se renta" 😊
What's a good area? Planning on taking a long vacation in early January from the US. Max budget would be $1000. Preferably less but something comfortable
Hello, how are you? There are tons of really nice areas to rent places. When you say a long vacation, how long are you planning to vacation here in Merida? A few weeks or 1 month? Some areas to consider are: Centro area, Las Americas, Santiago, Altabrisa, Garcia Gineres, and Santa Ana.

@@WaterFresh7 As for Calisthenics Parks, I haven't seen any. However there are 2 Calisthenics Gyms with outdoor exercises and classes in Mérida. One that I know of is in an area called Chichí Suárez and another near Paseo Montejo 😁.
