If Stone Cold isn't a 10, nothing is. Flawless and perfect. What Joe can do with a guitar, Jimmy can do with a mic; they're a heavenly match. Production is spot on, the band is outstanding. If you did a new reaction to this song every day, I'd come back here for eternity.

It was worth the wait. It really is a gift for your earholes, Jimmy was 58 here ffs, he's something else and Joe's intro and solo are jaw dropping, Jimmy's son Jackie on drums too. Then Mahalia (Mahaylia), she's a powerhouse and successful in her own right, but they all still regularly perform together, all four kids and Jane, whoever happens to be in the same place at the same time. Totally enjoyed the hell out of this, as expected, thank you boys. ❤

“‘Stone Cold’ wasn’t written for Jim,” Don Walker . “I quickly identified as I was writing it as something that would be perfect for Jim”.
‘Stone Cold’ pretty much wrote itself after Don dropped his daughter off at school. “It was written in the first year that I had custody of my little girl Danielle,” he said. “I had put her into, what I thought on paper should be, a good school. It was a private girl’s school in Rose Bay. Each morning I would drive her from King’s Cross out there in her little school uniform and then drive back to the Cross and probably some mornings go back to bed. On this particular morning I wrote this song driving back from Rose Bay in real time. There was very little that wasn’t written in that drive. Between the hill above Rose Bay along the waterfront through Double Bay to Kings Cross, Stone Cold was written. As I was writing it, I knew it would be a lyric, melody and genre of music that would be perfect for Jim”.
    😎👍

Just listened to Stone Cold for the first time. Great stuff, no doubt, but part way through Joe’s performance I found myself wishing that it was Mossy on guitar.
The phrases were cool, and very much on point for a blues song, but being pretty familiar with Ian Moss’ guitar work from Chisels and Ian’s solo stuff, both live and in the studio, I just know that without a doubt it would have been on another level with Ian’s sensitivity to guitar tone.
It may be unfair as a comparison, since Mossy typically used a Strat and Joe’s here on a Les Paul. I’ve long held the belief that Gibsons like the Les Paul and the SG faithfully reproduce the sound of a guitar, just louder, whereas Strats and Teles add a flavour.
It’s like a Les Paul is a beautiful woman but a Stratocaster is a beautiful and exotic woman.
I can’t explain it much better than that, but in that solo Mossy would’ve been flicking between pickups, rolling volume on and off to break up the signal or get it cleaned up, all whilst turning out some really individual licks and phrases.
Nothing against Joe here, it sounded exactly like you’d anticipate a great blues guitar solo to sound. But it never went beyond that in the way Mossy would have. Just saying that I wish I could’ve heard it with Ian on the guitar.

The Barnes family is very gifted vocally. I met a street performer (who made some poor life choices and couldn't go public - his words) and he was Jimmy's cousin and he had an amazing voice (same repertoire and power).
Jimmy also used to get his kids to sing at annual Christmas "Carols by candlelight" in Australia (they were called "The Tin Lids" / Aussie rhyming slang for "kids") and they used to steal the show even when they were around 5ish years old (I can't memba exactly, it was a long time ago).

I’d suggest the song Thick-skinned from his first solo album, Bodyswerve live from the Playroom in 1984 of course (the whole concert is available online). Shout out if you need a link. 🎉🎉
On another note I’ve just seen footage of him singing with Chisel in 1976, although not a complete song. Hopefully someone will dust off footage and bring it back to life for us to enjoy until eternity.

I think I agree with Alex on "Stone Cold," it's about an 8 for me -- the performance was a 9, the song itself is about a 7, so that averages out to 8. Bonus track was interesting, too.
