Great cover of a DP classic, really very good. Only the very brave would attempt to cover these DP classics because you are setting yourself up to be compared to some of the best ever. This really reminds me of just how Jon Lord completely redefined the Hammond and its role in heavy rock. All those organ solos at such amazing speed and complexity. For me the others in the same zone but very different genre as Lord are Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman. But even Lord started with Prog in the early DP days. RIP Jon Lord. Awesome selection guys. Totally dig it ! What a terrific combo of great musicians . I saw a guy a few years back from America called Junior Brown. He plays a guitar he created for himself called a ‘guit-steel’. When you see it you’ll understand what I mean. He does a phenomenal instrumental surf medley of 60s hits which will blow your minds. Might be well worth you checking him out. Cheers 🍻
The one song done by or with Jimmy Barnes that I don't like but you can't have everything. Stone Cold by Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa is possibly the best song by these two.
This was great, haven’t heard this version before! As the other comments have mentioned John Farnham performed the Aussie role of Jesus in JCS (and was fabulous!). JCS was actually how I first discovered Ian Gillan when I was still very young - I purchased a 2nd hand soundtrack of the English cast production (the 4 side vinyl version) and thought he had the most amazing voice. I absolutely loved that album and knew every note by heart, it had so much meaning as well as punching through with that amazing heavy groove, gentle moments and powerful realisations. It also gave me my lifelong love of that era’s sound. Much later on in my late teenage years I discovered Ian was in Deep Purple (I was always more into 60s/70s than my own contemporary 80s era) and then was amazed by so many epic vocals. Legend. Very excited for Prog Week and Bowie week! And 3rd Aussie week (hope marketing isn’t watching 🤐🤫) I’m finding it quite funny that these videos drop at the perfect time when I do my handicrafts - crocheting to heavy rock 😆 that’s how I roll these days 😂.
Just thinking back on who was in the earlier 1970s Aussie cast of JCS there were many famous names including Jon English as Judas and also Stevie Wright and Rory O’Donoghue. Russell Morris, Jon Stevens and Kate Ceberano pop up in the 1990s version alongside John Farnham. Amazing talent!
I've decided after doing a little digging into Cold Chisel week that I'm going to make that playlist include all of the "side stuff" from the members a la my Beatles playlist. They are all just too good at what they do to ignore the stuff they do outside of Chisel. Barnesy and Bonamassa are in great form here. As is the whole band really. To anyone who doesn't say there aren't amazing musicians putting out music in the 2000s, look harder. If Alex can stomach more Bonamassa, him and Beth Hart doing "I'd Rather go Blind" is beyond amazing. And live.
Just an fyi guys, Jimmy was offered the role of Judas beside John Farnham, but knocked it back.. He didn’t think he could pull off the musical aspect..
Alex grew up around John Lord and does have strong opinions on keyboards! I don’t think there is any doubt about the quality of the musicians. Just not Alex’s favorite!
Hey George. Waiting on your Nightwish report, that will be fun. I ‘ am going in november In Antwerpen. Joe Bonamassa…what a fine guitarist ( I saw him also in Antwerpen ) but most I like the organ, what a sound. Greetings from the Netherlands
Hope to get editing the Nightwish report soon. Takes a lot of work as I recorded lots of segments. Trying to decide if I make one short video or a short one and then a longer one with more material.
@@TheThamesmen the music too. I actually loved the organist but I get you have a soft spot for Lord. I didn’t think the drums were powerful enough…only criticism. Good drummer, but need a Dave Grohl with those guys
Thanks for reacting to this but you gotta react to Jimmy and Joe “stone cold” gives off that bluesy feel about it. Also check out Tommy Emmanuel “classical gas” one of the goats of the guitar 🎸
Mahalia Barnes daughter of Jimmy Barnes is a backup singer for Joe Bonamassa and gives a powerhouse performance with Joe in Riding with the kings. Also check out her singing with dad Jimmy on Walking up the road.
For a more contemporary look at Australian music Matt Corby is someone that lm sure you haven’t come across before. His live performance of Trick of the light is sublime, also anything from singer songwriter Guy Sebastian is a winner from the absolutely beautiful Standing With You to his more rap inspired Battlescars.
That's Brad Whitford on second guitar, best known from Aerosmith. The drummer is Anton Fig, long time drummer with Paul Shaffer on "Late Night with David Letterman". On keyboards was Arlan Scheierbaum.
Suggestion for Australia week 3….Howard Devoto (of Buzzcocks/ Magazine)…. Think his old Nan was An Aussie!?!…so in honour of that…maybe the Buzzcocks song ‘BOREDOM’ from their legendary Spiral Scratch EP!….that song has to have one of the best guitar solos EVER! ( in a minimal and incompetent punk sort of way)…Twas a breath of fresh air after all the superfluous guitar noodling of the early 70’s! 😉👍
This is from a Tribute album "Re-machined" A pretty good album for Deep Purple fans. And as far as I am aware Barnes never did JC Superstar. In Australia it was a guy Trevor White, with John English as Judas. Barnes would have only been 16 at the time. You can find the cast list on line if you are interested.
If Chris is responsible for the next list of classic Aussie bands, can we PLEASE get some Hunters and Collectors in front of Alex and George? Just found you two larrikins and can't get enough of your content. You lunatics crack me up.
Thank you for the suggestions. George here. I know some songs by hunters and collectors and think they are excellent. I am sure Alex has never even heard of them so may well be a good place to go
What amazes me it these staples of my childhood are not known outside Australia. I love your passion, I would suggest you react to Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up. I think you will love it.
I remembered that TBT with the Brian gardener glasses had a run in with joe bonamasa . Don’t let him put you off doing stone cold because he is the genius guitarist. The song is blues jazz ? Not rock , yet showcases jimmys voice with melodic tunes from high to low. It’s in my top5 of all time songs. Please do. Thanks heaps.
Baaaarnsey. Teehee. Stone Cold is fabulous, and if you like a bit of Soul/R&B, Soothe Me with Baaaarnsey and Sam Moore, from Sam and Dave, who did the original in 1962. Sax appeal to the max.
Great reaction as always chaps. They do this type of music extremely well sometimes reaching the Purple-esque heights - agreed about Jon Lord, untouchable. Now George, bone to pick with you - you went to see Nightwish but I've not heard anything about it yet - did you enjoy it? 😉 😀
Hey lads love your work - here are some suggestions for Aussie week 3 . The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar did a teaser on "Hey, Hey, It's Saturday," that's Farnsey, Kate Ceberano and Jon Stevens, doing "Everything's Alright," and a bonus.
Want to see the world's greatest guitarist? Watch Tommy Emmanuel do "Initiation". One man, one guitar, no pedals, no tricks, just skill. Honestly though, just watch it and see a person who has mastered their craft.
Here is the Making of (3 minutes) of the same session with more explanations and speech from Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa of the whole session - speech is breaking or leaving the music behind from times, but gives more insight to this session. Howdy gents! Well, I think Hell just froze over: Bonamassa is on The Thamesmen! 😮. Through the back door of course…Jimmy and Australia week and all that. 😏 Has all been forgiven, Alex? 😘. Should I expect Black Country Communion any day now?? 🤗😁
@@TheThamesmen honestly, when he said what it was about……..so many misunderstandings happen online because you can’t hear the voice or see body language I’ve had it happen to me (hard to believe, I know! 🙄) and I thought about the English sense of humor…the whole “taken the piss” thing…and most Americans don’t get it. Joe’s an American and took something Alex said, in a humorous, teasing way no doubt, much too seriously and got mad. Could it be that simple?

@@TheThamesmen I have just found a newly released video on YT about John Farnham. It's named, 'John Farnham Can Sing Anything', Parts 1-4, by Adam Stolfo, an American, I think. It shows the versatility of JF's singing in approximately 18 styles.
Fabulous cover! A great performance without question . . . but I agree with Alex that the Hammond organ just wasn't quite there in the first few minutes. To be fair though, it is tough to compete with Jon Lord's performance on the studio recording!
Sorry Alex, but I've reviewed this response a couple of times... and a person does not shake his head with the music, wave his hands in the air, and smile like a loon unless he has been fucked over by the music... even the dude slaying the Hammond! :)
As a long time Deep Purple fan I love this. A brave man that covers Ian Gillans vocals. Barnsley is up to the job . And that organ. Wow

It also gave me my lifelong love of that era’s sound. Much later on in my late teenage years I discovered Ian was in Deep
Purple (I was always more into 60s/70s than my own contemporary 80s era) and then was amazed by so many epic vocals. Legend.
Very excited for Prog Week and Bowie week! And 3rd Aussie week (hope marketing isn’t watching 🤐🤫)
I’m finding it quite funny that these videos drop at the perfect time when I do my handicrafts - crocheting to heavy rock 😆 that’s how I roll these days 😂.
Thanks for this! Much appreciated. Also, thanks for being here and supporting us. ✌️ G&A
I've decided after doing a little digging into Cold Chisel week that I'm going to make that playlist include all of the "side stuff" from the members a la my Beatles playlist.
I wonder how he could think that!
I thought they were all top flight musicians. Maybe I don’t have Alex’s refined sensibilities but I thought that keyboardist was awesome.
Trying to decide if I make one short video or a short one and then a longer one with more material.
they are just jamming.. sweet....
That was PHENOMENAL! 🤘🤘😁😁😁
And the music?
@@TheThamesmen LOL😂
@@TheThamesmen the music too. I actually loved the organist but I get you have a soft spot for Lord. I didn’t think the drums were powerful enough…only criticism. Good drummer, but need a Dave Grohl with those guys
@@helenespaulding7562 that would rock
@@TheThamesmen still can’t believe Taylor is gone. So sad.
Thats one way to wake up the neighborhood
Yes this needs to be played loud!
Thanks for reacting to this but you gotta react to Jimmy and Joe “stone cold” gives off that bluesy feel about it. Also check out Tommy Emmanuel “classical gas” one of the goats of the guitar 🎸
Will do and thank you for the guidance. We would be lost without our subscribers keeping us on the right track
Mahalia Barnes daughter of Jimmy Barnes is a backup singer for Joe Bonamassa and gives a powerhouse performance with Joe in Riding with the kings. Also check out her singing with dad Jimmy on Walking up the road.
Nice. Really like this kind of information and hope to see her perform soon. Thank you for your support
It appears to be one hell of a line up all the way around. Thanks for sharing that information that’s great
Loved this.
Think we all did ! Thanks for the support
What a way to start the day!
Exactly that will get you going
Suggestion for Australia week 3….Howard Devoto (of Buzzcocks/ Magazine)…. Think his old Nan was An Aussie!?!…so in honour of that…maybe the Buzzcocks song ‘BOREDOM’ from their legendary Spiral Scratch EP!….that song has to have one of the best guitar solos EVER! ( in a minimal and incompetent punk sort of way)…Twas a breath of fresh air after all the superfluous guitar noodling of the early 70’s! 😉👍
Glad you liked this boys!
Loved it. Thanks for the support
Thanks for the note. More soon and hope you have a fab weekend. Cheers G&A
If Chris is responsible for the next list of classic Aussie bands, can we PLEASE get some Hunters and Collectors in front of Alex and George? Just found you two larrikins and can't get enough of your content. You lunatics crack me up.
Thank you for the suggestions. George here. I know some songs by hunters and collectors and think they are excellent. I am sure Alex has never even heard of them so may well be a good place to go
Goddamn, the groove in this...
Thanks for the comments and also for being here. Be well G&A
John Fareham was the Australian Jesus .
Yes I realized once I looked it up apologies for that
Love the Hammond organ
It has such a great sound. Just perfect
That was mad.

Can I suggest our 70's and 80's Queen of Soul ... Renee Geyer for a future showing.
Clicked like before i watched your reaction :)
You know a good tune when you see one then. Thanks for the support
What amazes me it these staples of my childhood are not known outside Australia.
I love your passion, I would suggest you react to Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up. I think you will love it.
Thanks for this message and we hope you enjoyed the vid. Take care.
Thanks for the comment and be well. Cheers G&A
That was awesome!
Just such a great fun track. So happy we had a chance to go over it. Thanks for the support
Baaaarnsey. Teehee. Stone Cold is fabulous, and if you like a bit of Soul/R&B, Soothe Me with Baaaarnsey and Sam Moore, from Sam and Dave, who did the original in 1962. Sax appeal to the max.
Thanks for this! Much appreciated. Also, thanks for being here and supporting us. ✌️ G&A
Great reaction as always chaps. They do this type of music extremely well sometimes reaching the Purple-esque heights - agreed about Jon Lord, untouchable. Now George, bone to pick with you - you went to see Nightwish but I've not heard anything about it yet - did you enjoy it? 😉 😀
Ahhh Nightwish special coming up!!
@@TheThamesmen knew you wouldn't let us down! Was a little concerned though I must admit! 😃
@@honorarythamesman5732 just have a lot of editing to do to make a story with the material. Also got to do all normal videos too!

amazing cover....
Glad you think so!
The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar did a teaser on "Hey, Hey, It's Saturday," that's Farnsey, Kate Ceberano and Jon Stevens, doing "Everything's Alright," and a bonus.
Thanks for this! Much appreciated. Also, thanks for being here and supporting us. ✌️ G&A
David Campbell, Jimmy's son is worth a look too.
Nice thanks for the info. We very much appreciate it
Want to see the world's greatest guitarist? Watch Tommy Emmanuel do "Initiation". One man, one guitar, no pedals, no tricks, just skill. Honestly though, just watch it and see a person who has mastered their craft.
OMG Yes Yes. He can make a guitar actually talk!

Here is the Making of (3 minutes) of the same session with more explanations and speech from Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa of the whole session - speech is breaking or leaving the music behind from times, but gives more insight to this session. There's also a list of Musician names in the description - ruclips.net/video/sDnQlgIBIgw/видео.html
Thanks Kim
If you haven't reviewed it already, you have to watch Joe and Beth Hart doing 'I'd Rather Go Blind' live in Amsterdam. It's just brilliant.
Many thanks - will check
@@TheThamesmen Ok guys, have you really check this out yet? Beth and Joe together --or each on their own--will absolutely blow your minds. Both are extremely prolific (Joe puts out a blues album that goes to #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart every 10 months...he has 25 #1's and counting; Beth Hart wrote 72 new songs during the pandemic). Here's just a small sample to get you started. (Yeah overwhelming, just start with the first song in each list, then go the second, etc.).

If you wish to see somebody that is pretty good on the keys then check out Lachy Dooley on an old Hammond or the Horner Clavicord check out his version of Voodoo Child live 2022 blues festival
Howdy gents! Well, I think Hell just froze over: Bonamassa is on The Thamesmen! 😮. Through the back door of course…Jimmy and Australia week and all that. 😏
Has all been forgiven, Alex? 😘. Should I expect Black Country Communion any day now?? 🤗😁
Let’s not push our luck with Alex and Joe! Not sure he is over his spat!
I know, I almost fell off my chair!
@@helenespaulding7562 who knows! George here, I did try searching for the thread but no luck!
Anton Fig was the drummer.... you might recognise him from years on the Letterman Show.
Of course! Should have recognized the hat. I loved what he was doing on that track

Nearly.....

Another good Bonamassa /Barnes (Mahalia) tune is Riding with the King.

Smashed it with this one. Brad Whitford I feel got a bit overlooked tho.
Aussie week 3 suggestions Baby Animals - One Word, Little Birdy -Relapse, Grinspoon earlier stuff, Living End - All Torn Down… Cheers
Thanks.
I suggest Tommy and his brother Phil Emmanuel doing Terra firma. Great guitarwork by both.
OK. As much as we love him, enough of Jimmy Barnes. It's time for some new exploration in Aussie Week 3. My suggestions are:
1.The Teskey Brothers, 'Hold Me', LIVE at the Forum in Melbourne.
2. Vanessa Amorosi, 'Take a Look,' LIVE.
3. Renee Geyer,' It's a Man's World', LIVE.'
4.Hunters And Collectors, 'River Runs Dry' LIVE.
5.Karise Eden, 'Stay With Me Baby', LIVE.
That was not really official Aussie week stuff just us picking a tune that we thought we would like. And we did!
@@TheThamesmen I have just found a newly released video on YT about John Farnham. It's named, 'John Farnham Can Sing Anything', Parts 1-4, by Adam Stolfo, an American, I think. It shows the versatility of JF's singing in approximately 18 styles.
like alex's glasses / where can I get those?
Tom Ford. Cheers Alex.
