    🍾 the biggest mistake I see is people just being too afraid of it. I think society has conditioned us (at least in the US) to be fearful of credit cards and not to explore how it can be a win win scenario. The amount of people who gasp or are surprised when I say have 12 credit cards is wild. And here I am planning the next 3 or 4 😂

    🍾 Rushing the credit card game is definitely a big mistake. It's easy to only ever think of the next card in front of you, but if you don't take into consideration your lifetime in the credit card game, you could really get yourself in trouble with application rules like the 5/24 rule or Amex pop-up jail. Great stuff Sebby!

    I'd like a video on how to use Chase Insurances because I have a claim out and they keep asking for unnecessary documents over and over...not that customer-friendly.

      It’s a nightmare!! I booked a hotel through the Chase portal and due to an illness had to cancel in less than a 48hr window (which was the hotel’s policy) so incurred a cancellation charge but filed a claim with Chase. The issue here is Chase books through Expedia who books with the hotel etc. so getting this resolved involved one group telling me I needed to get info from another. It was my first experience booking through the portal and while things won’t alway come up like this, when they do it’s not an easy process.

    🍾 biggest mistake was canceling my oldest credit card that I got in college. Pretty sure it was a Chase BP card.... otherwise I'm pretty spot on using the card that gives me the most cash back/ travel points and paying in full every month. My credit utilization is usually in the 2-4% range.

  • @DougYuen

    🍾 My biggest mistake was carrying balances. I've made more in rewards than I paid in interest, but it was very stupid. Especially because it wouldn't have been much of a struggle for me to pay them off at the time. I can understand how people can get stuck in that cycle permanently. You think you only need to drop down to the minimum payment one time, and you'll pay it off soon. You see a small interest charge on your statement, think it's not so bad, leave it on minimum autopay, and before you know it, the interest adds up over months, then years. Looking back, it seems so crazy and illogical that I would do something like that.

    • @03086rm
      @03086rm 10 месяцев назад

      Sebby needs to be WAY more aggressive that folks need to FULLY PAY OFF credit cards. It’s not “ideally” you fully pay off cards. It is a REQUIREMENT if you are going to play this game. If folks can’t follow this, then they are not “credit card people” as Caleb would say. Sorry they won’t watch sebby anymore but I don’t think you want to play a role in people ruining their lives with snowballing debt.

    • @DougYuen
      @DougYuen 10 месяцев назад

      @@03086rm I would guess that the vast majority of Sebby's audience has either never made that mistake, or learned the hard way like I did, and won't make that mistake again. I don't think it's his responsibility to try and also cater to the "Dave Ramsey audience" - the people who are still stuck in the cycle and unable/unwilling to get out themselves. I don't recall Sebby ever suggesting anything irresponsible like carrying interest-gathering credit card debt. Personally, I think that's enough.
      I think the first responsibility should lie in the education system. Basic personal finance should be taught in high school. Everyone should learn how to responsibly use credit cards before they even get one. Maybe it's different now, but I never learned any of this stuff as a kid.

  • @SolidLiquidFox
    @SolidLiquidFox 10 месяцев назад +2

    The biggest mistakes once you are deep in the game come from managing all your cards. You may forget to put a charge on a card and it gets canceled on you. The other big one is getting emotionally attached to a card even if it doesn't make sense to pay the annual fee for it, because it doesn't fit your lifestyle anymore. You gotta be cold blooded an treat each card as a tool. 😅

    What is the best (non-Chase) card to be able to upgrade 2 economy tickets to Europe or UK every 3 years or so? I’ve always just been team cash back & I’m not interested in Maldives etc. mainly Europe. Cap 1 won’t give me Venture with sign up bonus, only upgrade it btw. Chase and only Chase was burned in a divorce unfortunately. FICO score over 800.

    Does downgrading a card not reset the 24 or 48 intro bonus clock? So for example if I have a CSP and downgrade to Freedom unlimited after the first year, can I use the Freedom for a year and then at the end of that year upgrade back to CSP and reapply for the intro bonus?

  • @hothotheat3000

    Getting a card just to flex instead of getting a card that works for your lifestyle is the biggest mistake I’ve seen people make. They manage to qualify for a high-end card, but the card really isn’t the best fit. The credits aren’t practical for them, but they feel like a big shot when they whip out the card to pay for stuff. For the love of God, the AMEX platinum is not for everyone. You’re not a lesser person if you don’t have lounge access.
    It doesn’t make you cool to spend money that you don’t have, buying stuff you don’t need, to impress people who don’t care.

    a lesser known but costly mistake: one of the first things to do once a new card is activated is to immediately set the cash advance limit to $0 or as low as possible. If you have a high cash advance limit, then you expose yourself to the risk that certain purchase/online payment transactions will code as cash advance.
