    D'arcy, had such an ability to harmonize with Billy. I have a spot in my heart for her. She is what is missing from the reformed band. I hope her the best and am grateful for the time she spent with the Pumpkins. I honestly don't think as much of the early sound would have been the same. It's subtle but she is there.

      I'm 64 and a black man the first time I heard this i loved it.....but didn't know the name of the group and song. Not long after they did a show Atlanta 3 blocks from my house. I saw the posters but still didn't know their names. When I finally knew the names.....I was kicking myself in the ass every since then!

      Btw Billy only did the bass on gish and SD but he also did James parts so I guess he's a bad musician too? Billy did the parts because he's Billy Corgan, not because James and darcy were that bad. Darcy sounded good on any live version I've seen and she was a huge part of the band.

      same here. while many consider mellon collie their peak, i consider it the beginning of their downfall. like guns n roses with the "illusion" albums, they got too pretentious for their own good. it's still a solid album (as is both illusions) but with it they lost sight of what made them great.

    My gosh. Gish and Siamese Dream were on a CONSTANT loop in my younger days. Brilliant albums. Gish changed my life. Jimmy Chamberlain is an INSANE drummer. Thank you Smashing Pumpkins for all the amazing times with friend's listening to your amazing songs!

      She gets shit on (unreasonably so) because Billy wrote and recorded the bass on the albums. She definitely holds it down live, and her vocals made Billy sound so much better than he actually was (she was heavy in the mix both live and on albums), but she gets hate because she's playing the bass lines that Billy wrote and originally performed.

      @@benbub123 Except that's not even true. He recorded "most" of the guitar parts on Gish and Siamese Dream. He recorded the bass on Machina and Adore, and Mellon Collie was fully collaborative from all members. Billy Corgan is an amazing musician, but he's also rich and insane and loves to exaggerate his prowess. Now his guitar playing is tasteless schlock and he doesn't even use pedals anymore.

      Have been a fan since the beginning. I always had the idea that they didn't have a single bad song, Billy is such a great songwriter. I can say that until adore, after that everything changed and we have what we have now. I was not able to listen to the Atum album, just things are not there anymore. Anyway, we had great moments with the band, and those time will last forever. I'm grateful for that.

    Incredible live performance. Stripped down and intimate. only they could’ve pulled this off acoustically. Billy and D’arcy’s voices complimented each other so beautifully. So powerful, fragile and transcendent. This band will always be special.

      Ha...I just commented above that this is when I realized he was playing that riff in octaves. I felt silly not hearing it on the record at first, but it was a flashbulb moment for me as a guitarist.
      I never missed another octave riff from then on.

    D'Arcy for years was said to be a so-so bassist, but this is solid proof that she was excellent. The style is on par with Paul McCartney with notes climbing scales all over and I didn't notice a single mistake. It must have been a personality issue, because clearly she was a very reliable bassist.

      Practice man. But playing/singing is hard in general for most. Typically the lead singer/guitarist switches from lead to rhythm while playing/singing

    damn - it takes me back just hearing Darcy's awesome essential harmonies and chorusing when she does the high octave with Billy perfectly. Such a missing element - I never knew they did a kind of "unplugged" performance like this, now I want a whole album. It lets the songs shine for sure

      he is a really great song writer with a weird voice but it somehow works when they are rocking out an he is screaming his lungs out. Rock music doesn't work if it is too neat and pretty and Billy has just the right amount of weirdness to make a really cool wild sound.

    Only this band could do an acoustic version of an a$$-kicking heavy rock song that maintains every bit of the power of the all-electric studio version. I sure do wish D'arcy would magically re-appear. She and Jimmy really layed-down the backbone of this performance, and her backup vocals are essential to this song..

    When they came out, I about died when I saw D'Arcy's name printed in the CD liner booklet, because I'd never known anyone with their name so closely spelled like mine. I also absolutely still love the Smashing Pumpkins!

    Man! Look at Billy jam on the guitar. He is the lead guitarist and the lead singer. Amazing talent. I saw them in Madison at the Sylvia 3 years ago, and the performance was outstanding.

    Why I would ever doubt the mighty Smashing Pumpkins is beyond me. I was like their is no way the do this song acoustic but they dot it and not only do they do it but they absolutely Destroy! Those fast sliding octaves are super hard on acoustics but then again they do it perfectly and that’s the guitar part that makes this such a special song!!

    This stripped down arrangement gave me a greater appreciation for D'arcy's talent as a bassist because you can really hear her performance here. I had always heard the "Billy played everything in the studio" arguments that sort of dismissed her role in the band.
