    • @Syclone0044
      @Syclone0044 4 года назад +5

      Yeah he really fucking loves it, he’s got a huuuge collection of gear and a big old pile of effects pedals, including everything way back from their biggest albums. I forget where I saw it on RUclips but it was like a tour of some warehouse or whatever where he has all this shit stored, and how the Mayonaise guitar was some cheap fucked up guitar that would squeal when you paused, and eventually that organically kind of just became part of the song they kept in on purpose, and now its iconic. “Words define the plan.... And when I can... (SQUEALL), I will... (SQUEALL) Cool enough to always be it, dumb enough to always feel it” etc. (I know I butchered those lyrics 😆🙈 forgive me, you know what I mean tho.)
      There’s also a video by Eddie Van Halen discussing/promoting either his new (at the time like 10 yrs ago) “Wolfgang Guitar” (which is all he plays live ever since, I believe), or his EVH 5150 vacuum tube amp, and how/why they made it the way they did. (If I had to guess I’d say the amp video). And EVH says something like “Billy Corgan, from Smashing Pumpkins was here, and he’s like: ‘Where are the effects pedals?’ And I’m like: ‘I don’t need effects pedals. Just plugged straight into the amp like I’ve always done.’” And I’m not 100% sure but I think EVH is known for always doing it that way, and that’s how he achieved his famous “Brown sound” guitar tone.

    • @Syclone0044

      Dr Toboggan Yeah I actually wrote a huge comment on this exact topic (Billy acknowledging today’s fans mostly only know him as ‘The Rat In a Cage Guy’) elsewhere but I’ll repost part of it here:
      The cool thing is if you watch Billy Corgan’s Joe Rogan interview (like 2-3h long and totally worth it - one of the all time best interviews of anyone about anything I’ve ever listened to), Billy discusses all of this at great lengths, and it’s really insightful and shows how much he has grown and matured and recognized the errors of his old ways.
      (I cut out the part here about Billy learning in retrospect he should have worked much harder to ensure his BAND all got credit fairly, and not just him.)
      Another good one, is Billy addressing to Joe Rogan how he recognizes that most ppl nowadays and even fans at concerts “really only know me as ‘The Rat In a Cage Guy’.” which is both sobering and impressively candid, honest, and humble of Billy to acknowledge. So it’s ironic to me they played that song here and not surprising they all seemed pretty half-hearted about it - Billy especially. He also talked about how he struggled to come to terms with this now that he’s 50 and not in the same place anymore as he was as an angsty early 20-something, and to keep his principles, he wasn’t willing to perform those songs at all if he felt it was gonna be half assed and just being essentially a coin-operated human jukebox... His solution involved a shift in mindset.
      I wrote half the shit already lol, but trust me go listen to the Corgan - Rogan podcast!!

      But then I listened to her 2 performances on this Howard Stern RUclips clips. HOLY FUCK SHE CAN SING AMAZING!! It’s nothing like the record!! She can sing 10x better than you think!
      Seriously I’m a die hard Metal, hard rock, alternative/grunge fan, but go listen to her All The Good Girls Go To Hell video and come back and tell me your jaw didn’t fucking drop basically in the first 5 seconds she begins singing!! For me that was THE music performance of the whole year at least, I haven’t been so stunned and impressed in a long time. Doing it acoustic in Howard’s studio, she did it quite a bit different than the album.
      I even posted it to a bunch of my random followers (which does include a significant amount of Billie Eilish fans) and then a poll “Which is better: the acoustic live Howard Stern version of this song? Or the original album version?” (And obviously I assumed all the Eilish fans would be coming in heavily biased towards the album version they already know.)
      The results stunned me!! Something like 20:1 Stern/Acoustic vs Album!!!! THATS how good it is!
