The crazy thing about SNA is that it's kind of like a stock turnaround, the sort of melody you'd use to bring a song from the end of a chorus back into the verse, but just the choice in itself to make it the main hook that drives the entire song makes it one of the most original riffs ever. "Hit The Road, Jack" (heheh, Jack) does a similar thing.

But the vocal melody in that song, especially in the pre- chorus is very intricate. It's actually really gorgeous and far away from being simple. He did a version of 7NA at a concert like last summer in the UK and I watched it just hoping for a good version... It was probably the best I have ever heard?! And the song is 20 years old?!
If you get the chance to see him live, do it. Whether you know every song or not, you wont regret it.

I didn't know what to thin about Jack White at first, but he has proven to be a good dude that just wants to make good music and he doesn't disregard those who came before him. If you didn't see his performance at Loretta Lynn's memorial concert, you need to check it out.

I remember very clearly when that album came out. I had just finished my first year of university and was working as a treeplanter. I listened to this song sooo many times. It gave me a lot of motivation to work hard. It's funny to hear that it was just a throwaway for them but that's fine. It was meaningful to me.

Yesterday (current time, Feb1’23) was the announcement of the potentials for this years Rock Hall. The video from the Hall, showing the 14 potentials, for The White Stripes, audio snippet of “7NA” over photo of Meg and Jack. Now, I’ve been a fan of the Stripes for years. I have thought they will get in the Hall, for being the innovative duo, and likely 1st or 2nd year of nomination.
I wonder how many at sports areas know the musician behind the quick riffs that are played. I’m a music fanatic, and don’t give a toss for most sports.

When this song came out I was a JR in high school. The angels had just won a World Series. The lakers were dominating, and my club soccer team was crushing other teams. It couldn’t be a more perfect time and this riff inevitably always brings me back to wanting to battle back to my best self.

To me, the lesson here is that you never know what you have until you try it out or put it out there to the world. Accidental or not, SNA doesn't become a masterpiece if the Stripes don't decide to release this 'throwaway' song. It's a good message for everyone in a creative endeavor: even the things you think are failures could end up being massively successful anyway.

So I’m a guitarist who attempts to write songs. As musicians we try to be clever, earnest and often show off ability when trying to come up with something and forget the most important thing. “The listener!” The average person in the street has not idea if you’re playing in mixolydian or Dorian mode or how that clever use of a borrowed chord elevates your composition to Zappa levels of harmonic understanding! It takes an unbelievable amount of restraint for an accomplished musician to come up with simple and relatable melodies that draw people in!

For me, the story that perfectly shows how much record companies knows about music, was when some kids make a rock band, and they try to sign to some company. Every single one of them rejected them. But One of the them, even say to the kids why. Because they where a rock band, and electric guitars where out of fashion, and it won't sell anymore. Rock was dead. No one cared anymore.
Well... I think everyone knows this story. The kids who have a rock band where the Beatles.

It’s not just a sports anthem, I’ve been to many concerts, especially at festivals, where the crowed randomly starts singing the riff. Before concerts waiting for the band to come on or to call them back for an encore. Even randomly during shows sometimes. It really weird but also a fun way for people to connect :)
