Adore is such a better album than I thought it was at the time. It's aged really well, and now it's one of my favorites. Anyone else feel similar?
@Fui Gebhardt1 Alas, Billy has long since beat us to this and many other puns.
@Fui Gebhardt1 People just wanted Mellon Collie 2 and instead the band lost Jimmy and Billy lost his mom and we got a weird, stripped down mildly electronic album. And then everyone was mad there weren't songs that sounded like Bullet or Zero. I think time has proven Billy knew what he was doing. The "Adore Orchestra" kinda thing they put together for the tours for this is my favorite live incarnation of the band.
I knew this in 1998 when I put the CD on. It was an instant classic.
💯
@@cjewe1z No you didn't
I’m in the background of this video, I was 17 and this was an awesome show live. Best day of my teenage life! I got to meet Billy Corgan during a commercial break and he signed by copy of Siamese Dream.
What city was this in??
@@timothyhaltner8877 I believe the Much Music building back then was in Toronto Canada.
23:54 Billy says, "When she used to ride James" HAHAHAH what the f*ck??? Low blow if he's referring to James and D'Arcy being romantically involved at one point hahahaha
So awkward lol
Hands up all you guys and gals who hade a huge crush on Darcy!
she bleached her anus
@@magg93 sounds good
@@magg93 Yeah i like that 😁..who dont? 🤣
Still have and forever will.
0/ how do you know?
D'arcy rolling her eyes when Billy is speaking about Puff Daddy mix is hilarious...
I love the part where they get asked about petting p Diddy mix their music. Darcy intersects and says "yah Billy, why?"
This aged terribly...
@@whiteskystudios3261 I wonder what she knows
Billy is a Fucking savage 💀 “if you’re talking about when she use to ride James”
to be honest, it was such a stupid question that Billy actually made work and be entertaining
James rules. Saying little says so much. Saying too much removes mystery
@A C ?
I love the Smashing Pumpkins...GREAT LITTLE STORY. I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers here in L.A back in 95 or so and after the show went to Jones Restaurant in West Hollywood for late dinner/drinks with my girlfriend. The place was known for it great music and alternative music at that. Who walks in Jimmy Chamberlin the drummer from SP. He had to wait for a table and asked if he could join me and my girlfriend, of course we said yes..he didn't really talk that much (he might have been a little out of it as were we) but I will never forget when the pizza came he asked for a slice. Only in L.A...till this day me and my ex girlfriend still joke about that,
I hate you!
Richard Perez the fact that you ate pizza with someone who has more talent than anyone in RHCP is freaking awesome lol
smithfan22 you’re high jimmy chamberlain is amazing but he is not more talented than flea John frusciante or even chad smith
Brandon Cardona uh
So you had something to eat with someone who plays drums. Stories aint what they used to be.
I'm in love with 90's D'arcy.
Fer Abra we all are
You beat me to it. I think everyone who dreamed of being a rock star in the 90s dreamed of a D'Arcy on Bass.
That black devil costume tho.
Fer Abra her horns make her look like a cat
And her nipples. Free The Nipples.

I saw the pumpkins on lollapalooza in 94 and loved hearing Gish and Siamese Dream! Both records are pure HEAVEN! Billy, James, Darcy, and Jimmy doesn’t get better than that! I’m not gonna lie: I REALLY MISS DARCY BEING IN THIS BAND 💔
I was there too at the one in Rhode Island summer ‘94, it was amazing!
D'arcy eye rolls is just EPIC!
I wish they got along still. The original line up was awesome

moparmon nonsense. What if I told you that multiple genres of music can coexist?
And you get all that now via this wonderful medium called the internet!
@moparmon yeah
@@inphanta Not the same. There's less of a community around it; everyone is spread out across 98327492384793247 bands. It's nice so many can exist but it comes at a cost.
What a band! Favourite band of all-time. Like four comic book heroes on a mission to rock the world.
Love that
No offense to everyone else involved in this video, but Billy is operating on a completely different level of intelligence. The guy was, and still is, ridiculously smart
There is a reason why he was a millionaire when Gish came out. The dude is a classic.
Omg! Lol! Memories!! I was there! The Pumpkins were to perform solely outside but there was a thunderstorm & MuchMusic wouldn't let them out. So the fans chanted and were super upset. The Pumpkins demanded to play for us outside. MM tried to stop the show on time, but they played their "last song" which lasted an extra 40 mins! It was hands down one of the best SP concerts I've been to (not just because you can see me multiple times during the show lol) but for the love they showed us fans.
I just finished watching it - got all nostalgic & sniffly lol I was 16 ;) such an awesome time to be a teen. Thank you so much for posting this - really made me happy!
That's freakin' awesome. Also, a 40 min. last song, i wish i couldve seen pumpkins live, they put much more emphasis on the progressive, long, almost improve styling of their songs. course i t hink billy was trained in jazz if i remember right, so that wouldn't be surprising
It's funny (yes I'm watching this again.. I'm old and nostalgic lol) I was thinking how long we were stuck outside. We were in the parking lot from the morning until then. They had no water or anything for any of us until about half way through the show Juliette Lewis (former VJ) started throwing water bottles out to us as people were passing out from dehydration. MM also didn't seem to care if us fans got smoked by lightning hahaha. Good times. Kenny drove me nuts with his heavy handed performance. I also loathed the pianist. Everyone else (Billy, James and D'Arcy) were just phenomenal as always. That last 40 minutes was just unbelievable. I wish I could go back and be there again. Going to see them this August. Wish D'Arcy was a part of the reunion tour. Can't have it all again I guess.
I was there too! Won tickets on 102.1 :)
I watched ya thru my tv 😂🤷 was even good sat home with Pepsi n Lay's. Everyone there owes the pumpkins one "reach around" each for the 40min last song.
They need three drummers to take on the task of Jimmy Chamberlin...
No dummy.
@@daviddavid1972 its true.
Mark Vaughn true. I am very glad they got Kenny Aronoff on drums to fill in. He’s excellent as well
@@augsbourne Isn't that the bike glasses wearing guy? He's way too stiff and seems to struggle with the lesser complex stuff.
Mark Vaughn that’s him.
27:07 iconic Darcy eye rolls hahhaha
I agree with her eye roll. I heard those remixes. Diddy should keep his producers (he has very little to do with the beauty of the songs that he is credited for) in the hip hop and rnb lane.
D'arcy has no chill! LOL
Beautiful D'Arcy ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
25:00 "every song i've ever written that means anything to me, James and Darcy were in the room".
that explains everything.
also Corgan is like Terence McKenna level articulate.
Interviewers were so human back then. And worthy. No celebrity worship . Just true convos . This is my fav album from smash also. 🤘🏾 ps. I’m feeling lit on this hot day. Got my shade and this music to carry me.
Darcy: yeah, who's missing all their hair? It's not James!
Quite possibly the greatest burn in history
He shaved it because he was balding
old gregg how do you know?
@@ihatefrankiero No, he shaved it to be a true *ZERO*
I"d say 1998 was a turning point in the mainstream. Lame ass post post grunge bands, rap metal, Spice Girls and boy bands all over the place. The whole mainstream reverted back all of a sudden...
The mainstream came back the second franchise hawking bands like the Spice Girls got big and Disney got its Mouseketeers to dominate the charts.
10 minutes of that drummer is more smiling then Billy's whole career
I was there. Won tickets on the radio and stood outside for 6 hours in the rain on and off. It was really iffy...we weren't sure if they were going to play outside due to the rain, but then they risked electrocution to put on a great show for us. I'm pretty sure they had a big jam on Joy Division's Transmission after the broadcast ended.
I love this version of 1979. one of the best in my opinion.
8:55 James Iha ROCKS IT! Saw this band in its prime all the way to Zwan and now the Billy and other new members. Gish and Siamese Dream Tours were SICK! Mellon Collie was crazy too. Sure do miss my Pumpkins! I wish they all still got along.
They peaked at this point. Physically and artistically. Greatest band outta Chicago.

What a gem! Everyone sounds and looks amazing. AA was their zenith artistically (and spiritually it seems).
Nostalgia the late 90s, what an excellent Smashing Pumpkins Concert in Toronto!!!
2013 and I'm still on the 90s marathon in youtube! WOOOT!

Love you Darcy
I was there. Stood in the rain for hours. It was SO worth it.
Joe Satriani on the drums.
Guillermo Cedeño Lolz
at 10:00, he says "and be perfect just like Billy"......ha
Aaron Morgan He still does that stuff. I just saw them Friday in Nashville and he sang "you'll be perfect just like WPC." lol
He truly believes that too! What a fucking narcissist!
@@jimwolabaugh3608 No he doesn't. Go listen to his interview about why he wore the ZERO look.
Billy made the right choice to take the band in this direction during the absence of Jimmy, and he was even more right to bring him back.
D'Arcy! I love her :)
I love how he said those kind words about darcy and gave her credit
i remembered seeing this back in the day and thought how they should release more live albums that show how different the songs sounded from the albums that people complain about the production (adore and machina)
One of the best videos ever I’m so happy I’ve watched it. My love for them will never end.
What a great rendition of Ava Adore, especially with the brilliant Mike Garson on the keyboard.
The drummer looks like he's having the time of his life.
Saw them live this week - still rocking hard. Billy's voice still as amazing as ever.
Greatfull are we to have lived in the time of Pumpkins 🍺
Such a shame. D'arcy and Billy seem to get along really well on camera, at least in this video, hopefully they can still find that again and we can have more lovely backing vocal harmonies and bass parts from the lady herself.
Man, that kid on the left is just staring at D'arcy's see-through shirt the whole time :)
As we all are.
That's relatable
That's the only shirt she ever wore. I saw them in 96 and 97 and it was that shirt and cat ears. It was her thing I guess but I was staring as well then and now.
Do u blame him
stop sexualising everything for god sake's she's killing it playing the bass and all you dumb fucks ever do is talk about her body when are you going to stop thinking with your dicks and keep up with evolution its about time jesus just validate her work like the rest of the band
I like it, but they all seem completely unhappy
Thr band was falling apart at this point
Billy and D'arcy still seem to be getting along, pretty well, right here.
CWoody Solo Not really. Look at D'arcy's expression when Billy is talking about why he didn't mind Puff Daddy remixing Ava Adore and Perfect. It's at 26:41.
Darcy didn't enjoy the direction the music was taking at that point in time.
This is so sad i love the Pumpkins to bad they broke up. I don't care what anyone even Billy says Smashing pumpkins is not the same with out James and Darcey. period i don't care what kind of Guns and Roses ego he has now but the last album was week. Also i have been a fan since Gish and back in the day they NEVER said it was just Billys band when they talked about how they formed it was never an ego trip for billy it was a band. Now no more.
*Weak But yeah...I agree. Then again..Billy said it was going to change no matter what and it has. I am happy for the single idea that Billy is still doing music, but I miss the old band and want a re-take of his solo bits.
if u listen to corgan talk about the old music u will understand as to why he doesnt give a shit about going back into the past........that music was meant for that generation, its 2015 and as an artist u want to grow and do different things......i personally dont want to hear him make siamse dream over and over........take a listen to the new stuff, its amazing esp Oceania
Oh I know. I heard him rant about it on Stern. It makes sense, but uh...its not all that good of music to me.
William Cate interesting you compared him to GNR. He and Axl both seem to have massively overly inflated opinions of themselves.
James is so adorable❤
Billy's vocals were on point here.
This was one of the most off point, random, and sort of mediocre vocal performances I've ever heard from B.C lol.
this is my favorite live performance video ever
26:38 back in the day when no one thought twice about showing someone's personal email address on TV...
I wonder if my friend still has the live and uncut version of this show. I wish they could've shown the song, Shame. Billy and James perform a climatic guitar solo together during that one, a big kick in the balls to those who said Billy was going techno. Adore was a rock offering in disguise, and is one of my favourite albums ever.
Corgan, the only guy who is still alive who was a famous alternative/grunge rocker from the early 90s
joe blow Eddie vedder?
@@gazzalenbrick6381 Kind of funny that it's the two who got/get the most shit for their vocals.
@@michaeledwards6683 👨👦👦👍

Oh billy ur amazing 🥰😘😘
Happy Birthday D'arcy!
YEAH WINDOWS 98
Yep. Just another Toronto night with a tremendous terrific band. Bravo Toronto and the Pumpkins!
Take aways from this video:
Billy actually seemed to really enjoy himself here
90's D'Arcy is tops
Adore does translate well live
Kenny A is a badass
Some of Billy's most melodic stuff is on Sheila and Ava
I miss the OG line up
11:43 BC is like Get that camera out of my face dude… im singing.. XD great
Bringes back memories of my youth...
I remember watching this on Much Music when it aired.. Intimate and Interactive was the best.
same here makes me feel old lol
Ya it does doesn't it?: But guess what we lived threw hands down the best gen for music. 90/s was filled with unique styles, lyrics that had to be bled out of the signers heart and for that I wouldn't change a thing
“When you used to ride James”. “Who’s missing all their hair?” Wow. Lol
watched when it was aired, and love that i get to listen to it over and over again! thanks pumpins for another great performance. ;)
thanks from the deepest of my heart for uploading this video.. apprecitaed !
Wow Billy is really open and honest, for a guy who gets critisized so much
yah me too. I was born in 94, but it's so sad to see what I was missing out on.
Interview so wonderful. Canadians rock and they rock hard. And they think. I miss you all.
The Smashing Pumpkins with Billy Corgan are the Kings of Punk Rock! No band has ever replaced them or matched their music.
I wouldn’t call them punk rock. Lol
Devil horn D’arcy was so deliciously goth.
Did you see during “Perfect” the camera man got right up to Billy and he swatted his camera away 😂😂😂
Sook-Yin Lee was so pretty.
I miss 90s Much Music.
She's a gorgeous little woman. Used to smell terrible but was the coolest lady of our time. 👌🏻
Unfortunate to see they all hated each other at this point. Work so hard to make it, then the money, fame, and addictions tear it all down. Can't wait to see what happens after this summer's get together.
Not true
23:55 When Billy talks about how Darcy used to "ride" James, he's referring to them having sex, with Darcy on top straddling James like a horse right?
CFBC Atheist/Liberal yep.
Kevin Rachman Probably got laid more than you tho
Emily Hardy LOL probably? Aren't you a kind soul. James been through more pussy than this Kevin guy had hot meals
I was trying to be generous lmao
Yes, that was the joke.
Wow. Awesome awesome stuff, i've only ever seen snippets of this interview and performances... but to see it all together really captures the essence. Thanks, this is honestly so great :D
Looking forward to the concert this summer, but sad that D'arcy won't be there. Still holding out hope.
I miss Darcy
When billy's voice sounded great and his dress sense was on point! Not so much these days! 🤣 What a fantastic performance. Magical!
I remember staying up late to watch the unedited live broadcast of this (time zones), complete with the absurdly long cover of Joy Division's Transmission that stretched the show well beyond it's intended time slot.
Even though I wasn't there, there was this feeling that maybe, just maybe, honest articulate and passionate music might be on the upswing.
This is a wicked video
damn the 90's was cool
20:27 - "Ok, we have an Email ..." How strange it was still in 1998.
6 months later, Darcy, FIRED!
I love this era of the smashing pumkins
Adore is so much better live
Aaron Cabe for real tho!!
no way, Adore is my favourite Pumpkins album! This has a different feel but nonetheless a great reinterpretation of the originals, that's how live music should be played, not simply note-by-note from the album, but something surprising and different
23:53 "If you're talking about when she used to ride James..."
Lmfao I can't believe he said.... that and so casually. That was funny asf.
It's so weird hearing them talk about their fondness for one another and sticking together as a band and a year later D'arcy quit and then 1 year after that James quit and the band was over. Then Them not really speaking to each other for decades til some reunuion tour almost 18 years later. Then over the years all the sh*t talking Billy would do about D'arcy's and James lack of talent and how little the both of them did on the records and how much he did on the albums. It's like everything they're saying they lived the exact opposite of. It's kind of funny that Rollingstone published a whole timeline of Billy Corgan bashing James and D'arcy over the years after the band ended. I mean he ridiculed D'arcy about her drug addiciton and called James a "piece of sh*t" and "one of the worst human beings he ever met". Like wholly hell just how much drama was going on internally with this band.
But damn did they end on a high note musically
It's all so very Borderline Personality.
Yes, thanks so much for this magnificent footage. Serious question folks...Are The Smashing Pumpkins the greatest band ever formed? I think so..
Wow this took me back a few years. Love it!
Thanks so much for this...still love the Pumpkins in all their guises :-)
