“The longer I play-the worse I get” …. I’ve noticed this in my own playing as well. Sometimes you step right up and just slay it on the first game, ..
and everything goes downhill from there. Strange phenomenon but very true I think. Not sure why. Maybe it’s just when we’re fresh we do better.
    Great video. Thanks.

You are right on! The heat is from increased resistance on the fuse holder due to it being lose or corroded. High resistance drops the voltage, increases the current which popped the fuse. Based on the drop you measured, that lose connection could have been generating 40watts of heat.

I’m SO glad you had to work on a 2000s-era Stern! I have a new (to me) Simpsons Pinball Party, and you have no idea how much I’ve learnt just listening to & watching you deal with THIS hairy bastard! 😮‍💨
I even learned how to sort through some schematics and I am to electronics what Shaq was to free-throws. Thanks, bud! 🤟🤝

the fuseholder corroded through oxidisation, probably was arcing under load burning it up. Ive seen that before many times working on old arcade games here in the uk.

You need plexi ramp protectors to keep the ball on the ramps, otherwise the ball rides out of the ramp, hits the ramp switch and breaks the plastic ramp. I think they used to sell them, but have been discontinued. I think it was a service bulletin, I just fashioned my own because the left ramp is impossible to find anywhere.

I wonder if that battery you found in the bottom was sitting on those two fuse holders for a while before falling lower. That would make sense why those were corroded.

Dang. Those fuse holders look like they got some kind of corrosive liquid on them like battery juice or capacitor juice. I really do wonder how that happened in such an isolated area without making a mess on more of the board. Bet there's a story. 😅

    • @TheMadmagik

nope, heat and arcing does it, it burns the metal and it becomes oxidised.

  • @deineroehre

Someone could have sprayed contact cleaner on the fuse holder, this helps a few weeks, but then gets worse if you don't get rid of the root cause (week springs or here in this case no tension from the holder). Most contact cleaners are corrosive, so it helps getting rid of oxidation, but you need to wipe it afterwards.

Since the battery holder came off the board maybe the batteries were laying in a position that caused the fuse holder to corrode?

  • @robertmee9842

I had to put a piece of a foam dot on the cop target, and as the foam breaks in the ball stays on the playfield better. Also the cop will pop the ball in the air and it sounds like the glass is going to break, I wish you could tell me if its possible to put a less powerful coil in the cop target so it doesnt sound like a hammer hitting the glass. This happens occasionally, when the timing of the ball rolling over the cop is perfect, not alot, but you will know it when it happens.

Nice repair job! I really don't like the spinning flipper. It seems like an unnecessary and easily worn part and motor for something that barely comes up during gameplay. If they absolutely had to have it, it should have been something that only started spinning during certain tasks or something.
