It's a cell, not a battery.
Thanks for pinning the know-nothing know-it-all so I could dislike :-)
I love this channel.
True a single cell such as in the case of 1.5 volt AA would be a cell and not a battery however most people do refer to even a single cell as a battery so I'm not picky about this stuff stuff like this has been around since the days probably batteries were common probably never going to be done in a way that is speaking proper terminology it's really a mute point in my opinion
Loved that idea about the “self-jettison” battery pack! Reminds me of a news story I read where a guy pulled the battery out of a smoke alarm he had in his bedroom because it kept doing the “low battery” warning beep every 30 seconds. Bloke just left it without a battery and then a while later he had a fire at night, but got out in time because the increase in heat made the Sellotape he’d fixed the alarm to the ceiling with lose adhesion and the alarm literally fell on his head hard enough to wake him up! Lol! Regards
Thanks for sharing that story. I also got offered a Big Bang Bar stolen in Houston….should have grabbed it 😂
Yeah you should have
Joe - I always tell people "think like an electron and use the schematics to figure out where it goes"
That helps greatly in tracing down where a fault is. Coil's bad? Go backwards and follow the wire back to the driver. Then the predriver. Then the logic gate that drives the predriver. etc etc etc.
Joe your videos are entertaining and personality is cheerful upbeat and likeable. It's always good watching your content.
Apparently hes a huge ass according to reviews of his storefront
Thanks for taking the time to film these! Real pleasure.
Right with you about the period sound for the period machine! Whilst it's great people make new sound boards, we feel you can't beat the intended sound of the designer, am'a right Ron? :D
Stolen? Do not pass go, do not collect pinball.
Cannot wait for next parts. It will be great to see you rebuild those old boards in future repair videos.
That kid stuffed that battery in there with the juice box! Never mind, you found the culprit. I would have blamed the kid.
"This could be the same game." LOL! It could be!!! Wouldn't that be insane?
If I ever get to your shop, I'm bringing in 4 rowdy kids with melting oversized ice cream cones.
Hey Ron!!
Prolly the best pin video you've ever done. The story stuff makes it!!
Don't get electrokilled.
No one looks cute when electro_ed.
this is my first of your pinball machine videos I've watched, mostly because I actually remember this pinball machine!
Nice change to have this bit more modern machine in for some attention. I played one game of this title when I was last in the USA in 2016. ….but can hardly remember what it was like. This should be a happy reminder….I feel like jumping through the screen and cleaning that playfield. I think it’s gonna shine.
"He tried to sell me a kiiinda stolen machine so I kiiinda mugged him" xD
I had a spat with Pat Lawlor that played out in Star Tech Journal. I questioned the vibration of Earthshaker as a potential reliability problem. Since then, I've seen components and switches fall off
Thanks for the great video Ronnie! I think those boards are for either a bally evel knievel or a fireball home edition. Can't wait to see the next one! ✌️
Best game ever made, the warm glow of the lighting looks beautiful, these were masterpieces of design
I never knew there was a Monopoly pinball. Love the sounds and looks of the game.
There were some good Sega/Stern Whitestar games, personally I think Monopoly was pretty lame but given the other properties Stern was theming at the time it’s not that bad.
At least he owned up before you left. It gives me hope. Not to dismiss your frustration.
Ever since I was a young boy, I played the silver ball, from Soho down to Brighton, I must have seen them all, but I ain’t seen anything like this, the Monopoly Game sure is a mean Pinball 😂
With the display issue, check the ribbon cable the connects to the back of the display board and the board closely for corrosion. I found it in my other White Star games "Terminator 3, Harley Davidson 2nd Edition, and Twister. Harley had traces on the display board that were corroded underneath where the ribbon cable connects through and had to be repaired. Just a suggestion before you spend the money on a new display. I use Clive at The Coin Op Cauldron in Easley, South Carolina for all my board repairs. I will be starting on a Monopoly soon with similar issues. The display is jarbled and won't let me access any of the menus . I enjoy all your videos, Thank you for taking the time make them.
I loved Monopoly, but I've rarely seen one in the wild and much less in playable condition.
This is a fun game to play. One of the local arcades has it. Sadly the plastics on the train ramp are broken so when you hit the ball up the ramp, it launches across the table. The cop drop target stakes a beating for sure. Really fun game though.
Those look like door interlock switches. They were designed for that application. The door closing pushes them on. For servicing you pull the plunger out to manually turn them on. When the door is closed everything is set back to normal automatically.
Love that you are fixing up a Monopoly pinball. It is a machine I would like to own as a Par Lawlor and a Monopoly fan
@21:10 ... that was hilarious! Maybe even true in some sense.
Cheers 🍺
Ron, you will now be forever known as "Ronnie, the Hammer."🔨 You are up there with Greg the Hammer Valentine. Hey, that would be a great shirt. You holding the Hammer with the words" I'm not a maniac '😂
I guess it wouldn't be a big deal in a loud arcade setting, but the motor sound of the rotating flipper would drive me nuts! :D
That pinball is in very good condition. It needs a new DMD display, a little cleanup, and a new plunger. You may also want to test for any burned out lamps and that all the switches are working. But it seems like it is working. Actually the battery holder falling out may have extended the board life. When you reconnect the batteries, you might want to solder an external wire connector to the board and mount the battery holder externally and this will prevent the battery damage to the board for good
I am not sure if you are going to go for an original gas plasma DMD or if you are going to go for the newer LED type. Some people are replacing their old DMDs with LED or LCD models that allow for a color display instead of the original orange only display.
In case you forgot, those two safety switches that open when coin door is open, well the solenoid switch should have finger indents to pull the switch plunger out, thus giving back solenoid power as a service mode while door is open.
And for those with keyless coin doors , they make a great bathroom break option, shoot ball into a scoop or vuk and open coin door.
@26:55 - It looks like that top switch is like a furnace switch. It can be pulled out to click it in place for testing as well as pushing in like a safety.
I have a Monopoly, the pl lights is f22, check it first, mine blows occasionally, 8 amp iirc, I put in an auto reset 5 amp breaker. I found that putting the rubber all the way down, close to the pf solved the ball binding the wiper.
Looks fun, lots going on with it!
LOVE the newer pinball games. Well done Ron! Thanks for your work.
Looks and sounds very much like Rollercoaster Tycoon? VERY similar playfield!
Outgas vs leaking; one burittio vs three burritos.
I feel ya when you say you'd rather play a woodrail than a new Stern. I like 'em both! But, man, I can't understand the depth of the newer ones.
These Whitestar systems are usually pretty reliable. I don’t mind working on them. The no playfield lights thing kinda scares me. Hopefully a fuse!
Little girl to the $5000 pinball machine, "OH YEAH!"
Joe, maybe start leaving empty juice pouches in with your expert evaluations!
That’s a fun pinball to play
Somebody once sold me
a stolen Stern Monopoly
They ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
Is there a National Database for stolen arcade machines / pinball machines ?
There is a National Database of stolen 2-way radios, especially Motorola, so if you are going to buy one you can check to make sure it is not reported stolen. It would make sense to have an arcade database for stolen machines.
For those wondering on prices, back in the late 90s, early 2000s .... stuff I bought : FH for $300 (and a NOS pf blank for $180), TZ for $1500, SafeCracker for $800, PinBot for $150, etc etc. Heck, even got a Medieval for $2k (and thought I'd horribly overpaid).
Best deal I ever got was -$25 for a Marble Madness (it came with enough extra parts inside I ended up in the green on it)
Those were wild times. Prices today are absolutely insane by comparison.
I remember playing Seawolf in the late 70's!
That will be a nice one😎👍
Great video. Will you be working on United blue skies wooden rail pinball? I have exhibit Mamselle and I have some problems resetting the score to zero.
The solder joints corroding is nuts. Sounds like a 5V pwr supply might be a quick fix for that.
New hit youtube channel... RonnieTales!!
I've had a few bally machines with mushroomed shooter rods, and I used a grinder to to grind the mushroom off and get it out of the machine. A hammer isn't that weird.
That's a pretty modern machine
I'd bet the lamp ballast knocked it off someone had a heavy duty tilt
23:12 insert grindhouse funky groove intro here
That's frustrating that someone tried to sell you a pinball machine they didn't own.
Nowadays, this game will confuse the kids with the Baltic and Med properties being purple instead of brown. We're starting to get to the point where people don't know about that era of monopoly. Not that I mind, of course. I saw a Monopoly Pinball machine in a South Dakota Airport of all places around 16 years ago
It looks like the display part of the machine folds down for moving. I'm guessing that someone folded it over with force dislodging the battery and ballast for the flourescent bulb. What I can't believe is that someone thought it was a good idea to put that bulb so close to the circuit board.
Hey Ron, thanks for the new video series. I'm curious if your former employer or any other operators got rich from coinop. With employees to pay, overhead for storage, parts and repairs, plus taxes and splitting half the revenue with the location, it seems like it would take a LOT of quarters to get wealthy. I can appreciate if it was worth it just to be self-employed and do what you love though.
Not all Hammers are Mallets, but all Mallets are Hammers
@23:35 - That clinches my decision - that back box took a hard and sharp drop at one point.
I am wondering if the someone was removing the backbox bolts without the clips being locked down. The backbox fell forward onto the cabinet.
Are you going to install the full color replacement display?! Not much more expensive than the old orange one... :)
23:12 maybe someone should make a grindhouse pinball machine with planet terror and death proof in the mix
thank you for saying what you said about modern pinball, i don't get it either. The stuff with computers and video screens built in is just ehhhh....pass 🤣my interest ends with DMD. Excellent video, thank you for making it!
At this time I don’t plan to do any system 1 sound boards. Might do the first gen solid state Bally with the chimes. We’ll see….
That's a smart idea If the battery is crapping out The plastic part will fall out, not ruining the circuit board smart idea Stern I wonder if you can still continue that tradition on your newer machines You impressed me That's a suicide battery
How do the playfields get so grimy when they are under glass?
JOE CLASSIC, That DataSentry is a Nickel Cadmium Battery? as reasons why they used a Nickel Cadmium battery and not another type
Those are rechargable , the og data sentry is recharged as game is on, you can replace with regular Alkalines but need to put in a blocking diode so those type are not charged ( kaboom even)
You know me, i absolutely love ALL of your content, especially when you roast smart ass comments, I'd have also paid good money to have seen you deal with that kid who tried flogging you his dads pinball machine 🤣🤣. Ive also said this before but its a shame there isn't an uncut version of your channel, boy would that be a laugh!
When Ron said "I didn't use a hammer." I thought "I used a mallet." Then he panned the camera over and said "I used a mallet." I think I might be watching this channel too much.
Perhaps that should be on a t-shirt. Ensure you use the appropriate tool. Percussive Persuasion is okay when needed.
Wow...
If Ron had taken that kid's father's Monopoly pinball game,
he would have ended up in REAL-LIFE Jail and his cellmate
would NOT have been a banker!
I think they had a fireball too.
Looks like you got your work cut out for you!
Didn't Bally also make a home version of the game "Fireball"?
Thanks for the video, what a adventure. It's going to be new again I know for sure
Yodelayheehoo
Why would a Kool Aid pack be in a Pinball machine!?!
Is this machine part of the college's economics curriculum?
I want one
I hate Stern games. Maybe you can fix it if you own it? Every stern I have played the bank angle is so high that half the time the ball shoots down the center of the flippers at light speed just after shooting it.
And if you manage to smack it once you get maybe two vollies and it finds a way out. I get like 30 seconds of playtime.
But when I play older games then all seems to take its time and is very manageable.
I hope that guy landed on "Go To Jail " Ronnie. LOL
He paid a tax of $15!
WINNING!!! Sooooooo Much More Is Coming... LoL!!!
Ever repair a bingo pinball machine?
Sacrificial battery holder.
Vice grips buddy
Lol! Take it easy, Big, Bad, Booty Daddy!
"HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME!!!"
So, how much do you plan on asking for that Kool-Aid recycler?
How many credits does the game give for a kool-aid packet?
How many credits did the pin thief put on his father's machine?
An "outgas" sure sounds the same as a "leak", so whoever is having issue with saying it leaks, is just one of those pedantic types.
Is that Thor's hammer 😂😂
Yes
IT'S BROKE.❤️
glad you didnt kill the kid, otherwise id miss all this content :D
I'm surprised he didn't report him to the father. Though perhaps it's not worth the possible backlash from the kid.
Sell Me
A mallet made in China...
If I understand correctly, stern uses the same frickin mpu board to this day which is crazy to think about
This is a fun game to play. One of the local arcades has it. Sadly the plastics on the train ramp are broken so when you hit the ball up the ramp, it launches across the table. The cop drop target stakes a beating for sure. Really fun game though.
11:43 still a percussive instrument.
IT'S BROKE.❤️
