Best part of these songs is that they were true stories. It starts in the late 90s, him not being famous yet, just trying to support hailie, fast forwards to 2007, the fame had ruined him, his enemies were talking bad about Hailie, his best friend Proof had just died and Eminem was at the height of his drug addiction and actually overdosed, on Arose it continues from him being in the hospital and his liver and kidneys were actually shutting down and he was dying, basically writing a suicide letter to his daughters. Then u hear the machines go beep beep beep, his body started to recover and function again. From that point on forward, he decided to get clean.
An even better part to these songs....
People call them trash. Fuck they're gunna regret thinking that one day. A mature listen is all it takes.

that's absolutely 100% if he was not discovered and had got to the hospital 2 hours later em would not be with us today. i remember the rumors going round that em was dead. false obviously

And this is why Em was pissed when the album these two songs was on got SO MUCH hate by critics and other rappers. This was a passion project for Em. This was real. It meant something to him.
Facts, i can clearly understand that even if i don't feel the album. Castle & Arose are amazing tho

looking back Em was 100% right, the disrespect was ridiculous and the industry, fans and media deserved the clap back kamikaze let off

Im a 30 year old man and i cry whenever i listen to Arose. Iost my dad as a kid and this just hits different
I listened to Arose about 30 times before I realized I was hearing him breathe on a ventilator 80% of the song. Gave me chills

@@jaydeneveleigh1062 A big problem with Revival's reception is after his OD, Eminem grew up way faster than his fan base. By the time we all caught up it was like "why did I sleep on this?!"
The amount of sound design in these tracks deserves respect even separate from the musicianship. So much of the story is told just through sounds.
Arose is a remix of fake smile
He's referencing his actual overdose and hospitalization in 2007, a year after Proof (Doody) was murdered.
If you listen to those songs back to back and not only not feel anything but also not give the man the props he deserves your just a monster and a hayer.
It's really unfortunate that a lot of people never got to hear these songs because the album they were on, Revival, was critically panned and hated on by pretty much everybody. But thanks to channels like this some of these overlooked gems get a second chance.

Walk on water was a perfect start to the album. I loved revival. People just be hating. Sure there were no poppy beats but damn believe walk on water castle arose in your head everything was fire

Going through changes by Em and Ozzy Osbourne is a song that details a lot of the things he went through during the times of his addiction and his best friend Deshaun Holten(Proof) death.
Going through changes really is one of his most underrated tracks in my opinion.
If there was ever anyone you could talk to about drug abuse it's Ozzy
Love that song. And I always follow it up with You’re Never Over
The line in arose about walking her down the aisle and graduation is so beautiful because he literally did that for one his daughters this year. He’s being there for his family
And now he’s done it for Hailie! He did it. Seeing those photos that was posted online of him and Hailie dancing was such a great photo, when you see the Mockingbird video of them living in the struggle to flash forward to now and know they made it and he did what he set out to do and gave his kids the best life he could’ve possibly given them.

Once again, Em's ability to simply tell a story while painting a verbal picture to mentally visualize the story playing out through your own eyes .... sends this whole (double) track into a level of its own that is unmatched. And it is MORE impressive knowing that it is all true and Em STILL puts it out to the public on the track, highlighting yet again just how personal he is on the mic. Something that a LOT of artists have a hard time doing, let alone doing it on a steady basis the way Em has done it through his whole career.
Its amazing how he can make me go on the wildest emotion train ride with just his story in two songs... You can even feel the honesty in his words... and honestly I cry almost every time I listen to this song.

That Arose got me in tears, that song makes me think about my 2 grandparents who are no longer with me, and I dedicate this song to them I still miss them and so does my mom, my mom misses them too

Truly a treasure . Eminem is special in the way that no one will ever love poetry like he does. The fact that we are all here because we want to see someone else get the emotions we got at the moment of listening for the first time just trying to recapture that beautiful feeling.

This is a great song. Clandestine cadance, hands down. I think my two favorites were Almost Famous and then Not Alike. But the joint he did with Joyner was amazing too.

if you're in the mood to check out something -slightly- different - there's another rap song that is in a similar vein to Castle (rapper writing letter to his kid).
Also, as an Aussie, it's also a good opportunity to recommend an Australian artist! But the track is called 'Through the Dark' by Hilltop Hoods. It was written by 'Pressure' one of the duo for his son, whom was diagnosed with cancer. It is an absolutely bomb track and definitely one to grab the tissues for.

Im only at 10: 30 in this video, the end of "Castle." He killed his wife earlier in his career through the fashion of his art. His song "Kim' which was so impactful, dark, heartfelt, desperate, a horror love story. The BEST thing it was, was the WORST thing that he NEVER actually did in real life right? Of course. That song scared me i was like nine and snuck into my older brothers room when he was out, late asf to listen to the cd. Song was too much ha. Imagine how it impacted Em and Kim. when he released it and to this day, forever. He just killed HIMSELF at the end of this song that TO ME seemed like a huge message or, him showing his regret for how he did her the way he did. In his mind, "im sober looking back, i effin hate myself for that. F it. Ima have to to have to kill MYSELF now. On one of my tracks. Its got to be something big that fits it all. " This does. That was my thought. Soon as he did that stuff at the end. Ive never heard this song. Or Arose. Im about to listren to that now. Felt the need to throw this in, i dont do this i BARELY comment on youtube videos. This song put his Goatness to a whole other level, that i thought ive already heard cuz Eminem the best.
