  • If you drive a DSG, you will have a mechatronics unit controlling the gearbox for you. These are really intricate computer systems that make sure every gear change runs smoothly.
    The issues occur when these go wrong. Let's take a look at some of the most common faults you can expect from your mechatronics unit with Callum, our Gatwick DSG expert.

    Our DSG failed coming up to a roundabout the drive just disappeared which with large lorries thundering past we had no option than to come to a halt in a fast moving live lane - I think VW should have a class action taken against them, they have known about these problems for years but continued rattling them out - I’ll NEVER buy another vw as long as I live - oh and by the way quoted between £2,800 - £3,500 plus vat - I expect better from what was a reliable well built car. My 1.2 polo GT TSI DSG doesn’t creep forward when slotted to D gear
    But the reverse creep function is working.
    The VW service center said they couldn’t find any error code in the scan and also said doing a base setting reset using VCDS scan can harm the mechatronic unit as I have changed the battery outside of VW.
    Please suggest.

    I have a 2018 RS3 DQ500 with 100K miles on it and on cold start the car won't shift into drive until the car is fully warmed up (5-10 minutes of idling), if I put it in drive when cold and give it just a little gas (maybe 1200-1500rpm) the car will slam into gear and lurch forward. Do you think this is a mechatronic problem and if so why would it only do it when cold? Thanks for any ideas.

    • @ccmgarages

      Hi @Elijahallen - it could be a multitude of things but our first question would be has the gearbox ever been serviced? If not, we would highly recommend this. We are able to do a automatic gearbox flush which makes a huge difference to the driveability. Check it out here > ccmhelp.co.uk/services/gearbox-flushing/
      If the issue continues, it could be the clutch, mechatronics, the gearbox - anything! Without getting the vehicle up on a ramp and having a good investigation we wouldn't be able to advise any further than this

      Yikes, sounds like something definitely isn't right there. It may be that they haven't properly coded the new mechatronic to the gearbox or possibly, if the clutch is highly worn that can cause issues where the mech unit isn't happy until that is replaced too. If I was you, I'd be taking it straight back to where the mechatronic was replaced and asking them to look into it again for you. Or call our team and book in with us :)

      Yes, they are expensive to repair, but so are most parts on modern cars simply because of the amount of tech within them. A wing mirror historically was just a mirror, but now it's packed with sensors and tech.

    • @ccmgarages
      @ccmgarages  Год назад +1

      The mechatronics unit deals with gear selection and is a complex unit with its own TCM and oil supply. A common fault is an ingress of Sulphur from the main gearbox causing degradation of the mechatronics unit and penetrating the TCM, causing electrical faults which confuse the gear selection process. In this case, you would need a replacement mechatronics unit and not a whole gearbox and mechatronics unit combined.
      A good way to maintain a healthy mechatronics unit is to ensure you have regular servicing of your vehicle so you can spot any worrying issues early on.
