"Celebrated bass lines of the future". Carlos knew. He knew.
I got stabbed in a fight, died, was revived, spent months in recovery, I listened to Interpol everyday, they got me through it, in particularly the song Leif Erikson. I was obsessed with this band and because of them I became a creative, artist, musician and now a fashion designer. Creativity is the only thing worth pursuing, take it from me.
Great to hear. What kinds of clothes are you designing? I would like to see your designs.
@@hereforthemusic4975 he designs male underwear
@@nikkingman nice
Totally agree. 💯
☺️ glad you made it
Do they even realize how insanely good they are? Do they know that Bright Lights is among the best albums in history??
Seriously soooo good i fell in love when first heard them come out working at F.Y.E working at a music store was LIFE💖🎶🙏
Their first few albums are pure gold. One of those rare bands that you can listen to and enjoy all the songs
I swear i have listened to this album for a hundred times. And every time it its a... I dont know. Cant explain it.
Masal S.
It’s gets better and better every time. I’ll be listening to Interpol till the end of my own existence.
Ivan Gee I dont know if it gets better, but its like a safe spot. It makes me feel and its doing it time after time. Im not sure if Paul and the rest realise how much this album means to other people.
Exactly it's that special atmosphere. For me I listen to Interpol regularly, but for example I'm out in the city in the night and suddenly, have the urge to listen to whole Turn On The Bright Lights because it just adds to this moments... and it's truly... unexplainable.
Its a Drug to the Mind and Soul🤗 In a positive way!
i know exactly what you mean
“The New” has one of my favorite bass tracks of all time
Hunter Villines YES
Almost every Carlos Bass track is just dummy! Every single Carlos track has swag, dirt, and disco.
The New is one of my favorite Interpol songs to play. The intro is boss, and the breakdown part where Daniel just hits the B string while tuning it down and back up... I don't think I've seen that anywhere before-- it sounds awesome.
Tom Morello features similar string tuning in the intro to "Wake Up" by Rage Against The Machine" which predates the Bright Lights album; but I'll bet we both agree the technique is used to better effect on The New
it's really interesting to see they talking about the role Carlos had in the band. he did an amazing and powerful job while he was in the band, and makes me happy as hell to see this job being celebrated by those guys who surely are three of my favourite musicians in the world. thanks for this glorious record, Interpol. i love you from the bottom of my heart.
Bruno Carnovale I agree Carlos was such a great bassist. He had such style, creativity, and talent with his bass playing and that’s very hard to have with so many bassists in music. It also comes to show the bands professionalism, appreciation and overall love for their friend who has moved on. (Whether they are still friends is up for debate) Interpol will always be that special band that I started listening to in middle school. I listen to the heaviest of metal but I always go back to my roots so I return to all their records.
Carlos was present in this one too. Check the "D" on the bass at 6:39.
I think, there is a small tribute to Carlos "Dengler". The camera makes a very obvious shot where you can see a label with the letter D on the bass. I think it is a subtle tribute from the band to have him "present" on stage. Also the name of the man who is playing bass at the concert is Brad Truax. Why would he have a label with the letter "D" on his instrument? But I digress.
@@D1360281190 Not to burst your bubble and debunk your hypothesis, but most Interpol songs from the first 3 albums are played in Drop D (the strings are tuned DADG, rather than EADG). Bass players tend to label basses so that their tech can set them up and tune them to the relevant tunings.
*Carlos D is why the first four albums are interesting through and through.* The albums after the first four are really good but the song structures got more mainstream and the bass wasn't free to roam.
Quen envidia de la buena prros :c
My favourite band. Since I was about 13, this music just resonated with me, couldn't explain my fascination at the time. Can barely explain it now at 26. But these guys are legendary musicians.
Same. I was about 10ish when I first listened to them and this band just hit something inside me. It's so hard to even grasp this feeling but it's magical.
You'd like Joy Division
Crazy. I was 14 when I got into them, and I’m now 26 as well and they continue to be my favorite band.
I was about 15 when I got into them and I am now 26 as well, still listening lol.
the new is a genius song
Kira Martin upon first listening to the album as a whole I didn't care that much for The New....but upon repeat viewings and finally understanding the lyrics I really really love the song
yep took me about 6 years after first listening to totbl to finally appreciate it
Feels weird how i can relate to the song.
I listened to it the first time, and thought what is this (bad) 3 Minutes later I thought the same but in a good way, ever since it's my favourite song...
The New is a rollercoaster of emotions.
Los amo tanto ... Mexico los ama .... 😘❤️🇲🇽
Yesssssss. México los ama. 💕
The 3 Interpol concerts I've attended were some of the most thrilling times of my life. The first 2 times were before Carlos's departure.
Carlos was present in this one too. Check the "D" on the bass at 6:39.
@@D1360281190 How was he present in the video?
@@lucaslobofer4417 Well, he is not literally on the video. But, I think, there is a small tribute to Carlos "Dengler".
I have played the riff from The New, starting at 6:29, so many times in the past hour. I cannot get over HOW AMAZING every instrument compliments each other. Interpol will always be the best band I've ever heard. Period.
first riff I learned when I got my guitar
I first heard "Obstacle 1" around '03 on a college radio station and I said to myself, "this is the new sound of the 2000s," along with Modest Mouse and Death Cab. I still didn't know who Interpol was. I remember "Narc" then "Heinrich Maneuver" and didn't realize it was the same band! When I saw the freaky video for "Lights" Carlos' bass connected everything together. Weird, since Paul's voice is distinctive. I downloaded some free songs, one was "Specialist". Mind blown. It got me to buy all their albums. This is an odd band as it sounds like they're playing instrumental music but with lyrics added afterwards. The sound is soooo good and the lyrics are kinda crazy. Paul must love boating a lot. When I saw some early interviews they said Daniel starts the songs with guitars and when it's almost finished Paul adds lyrics - of which the other members of the band seem to wonder where does he get them. Anyways, after watching concert videos from all over the world I'm surprised and content that they have such a following. I say this because I've yet to meet anyone in person who's heard of Interpol. Sometimes I say to myself that I'm the only one who knows this band exists. Perhaps in my city it's true. ;)
Interpol is Art ✨
Vero Vázquez el pintor, interpol
Tu también
Vero Vázquez I so agree ! Perfect words !
I literally listen to the whole album daily and I’m so glad I never get tired of it
Carlos, just in case you are watching this video, I want to say :
*You are damn genius!*
you've been an inspiration to my music. I wish all the best for your future endeavors.
Turn on the bright lights has a few of the best basslines I've ever heard.
Thank you! I can’t express how much your music means to me, I was in one of your concerts in Mexico city and the moment Untitled started playing I went bonkers, I love every song in that record and I hope you keep making music for a long time
That Untitled riff intro... speechless.
This band brings me the most fondest of memories. I saw these guys including Carlos at the Laguardia airport while I was flying to NYC for vacation. I couldnt believe my eyes. Until I saw their luggage and it said Interpol. I have a pic and their autograph from that day. That was 17 years ago!
I love You INTERPOL
I love you Paul Banks
God, I wish you guys released the full concert, would be amazing to see it. The sound seems really well recorded, and the cinematography in this is amazing.
I really hope they release this show one day. On a DVD would be nice
One of my favorite albums Ever. This album is timeless, The album that made me wanna pick up the bass!
Sam Paul and Daniel, you guys are amazing. Don’t forget Carlos D
I think, there is a small tribute to Carlos "Dengler". The camera makes a very obvious shot where you can see a label with the letter D on the bass. @@D1360281190 the D is just to say the bass is in Drop D tuning because some of the newer shittier songs are played in standard, like my desire
I found myself the other day revisiting my own past through Interpol ‘s early albums. Looking back, remembering stuff I couldn’t understand at the time and the outcome of the choices I made... Also remembering how music kept me sane and gave me confort and hope.
17 years from the realice of this album, I feel very proud of the road I’m walking now and I thank this Band for scoring it all the way. Now I get that it is up to me to Turn on the Bright Lights.
Can’t wait for your show in Guadalajara 🇲🇽
Along with Songs for the Deaf, the very best of 2002
Watched this again 5 years later and wow ❤🖤
one of my favorite bands of the 21st century, and one of the best albums ever, of all time :) happy to have seen them live twice in Seattle, once at the Showbox and once at the Paramount back around 2004. Both shows were amazing, tight, precise, well mixed and balanced, powerful, visceral, and emotive. Some of the best live music i have experienced.
wow, have i mentioned that I’m in love with Daniel Kessler
i love when he dances. he put his guitar pick right in my hand after a show. i still have it 🤗
bashavusta totally! his dance moves are definitely something i have to see live
interpols music is timeless. all their albums have aged well & will continue to do so.
4:00 my god the keyboard version of say hello to the angels is amazing. They need to released it!!
Thank you guys, Mexico honestly loves you!
It’s different now that I’m poor and ageing
this album changed my life as a kid. still amazes me to this day
I like that they honor the contribution of Carlos in this record, i like that they talk about Carlos without taboo, without create controversy. i like that talk about the contribution of carlos to this record because even he is not yet with them he put his talent in TOTBL and this will be always important, i love that they are not trying to delete him from the map. it seem that they have love for Carlos that he was part of the band and family for the time that he chose to be in it and not just because carlos choose to leave the band they hate him or discredit. i really admire how they talk of him so NATURALLY, other bandas just would not even mention it and less by name and interviews would simply erase him from the map. Carlos was not only part of the band but his life. It seem how they appreciate this guy, really mature people. i remember and some 2010 interview when Paul talk about the first time he saw Carlos and what he thinks about him, how cool look carlos and how Paul smile while is saying the history.
And for other hand i really happy to know just a little more from the song THE NEW. im sure we all had speculations of every song that Paul wrote, if this or that song is about his experience or just was inspired by a book, movie or friend just to get to know more Paul. And now im can die in peace because i know that the girl of The new was real and was some girl of PAUL in his past. i dont know is just give me peace know about his life and what songs are more written directly of him experience in romance and which ones are more abour and history of an novel he read.....very interesting
Such a great, great album...such a great band. TOTBL holds up very well. And Sam F. is still one of my favorite drummers. Good stuff right here.
Ese día estuvo de huevos, estuvo increíble estar ahí, que cada canción se hiciera bailar, brincar, estuvo realmente bien🇲🇽 MEXICO IS THE SHIT. ♥️
paul should be as proud as the new is he is of it. its amazing. its one of my favorites. interpol is still one of my favorite bands years and years and years later. miss carlos :/

Please release this beauty of a footage in its totality on dvd so I can play it million times like the album.
Los amamos 🇲🇽
Glad to know you guys are alive and well. I love you guys and i love this album 🖤❤️🖤❤️
Untitled I think is actually my favorite of Interpol. The simple, elegant, reluctant restraint is just sort beautiful. In fairness though, so is the album. Thanks for the video.
Can't wait to hear what's next!
Some of NYs finest
The Forrest Hills show was timeless
Timeless like a broken watch?
man, i was there. it's something i will never forget.
that show felt like a dream
Hell yes, it was - worth the trip from Toronto.
I flew in from North Carolina to catch it. Loved every moment of it!
Such an unparalleled album. Each time I listen to it in its entirety, I always find something new to fall in love with the album all over again.
I fell in love with Interpol by „Untitled“. They‘re close to unknown here in Germany, at least from my experience. I havn‘t yet met someone to even heard of Interpol. Back then, 2 years ago I think, i‘ve been searching for new music to enjoy and Interpol happened to cross me way. Just heard Untitled and immediately wanted to know what’s waiting for me to discover. And let me tell you, I haven’t been disappointed. Interpol makes exactly the music I’d make if only I were a musician. I love them and will always do... hope to see them live sometimes!
Just, thank you. I'm glad I met Paul when they came here, I'm glad I stretched his hand and told him how much his music meant to me. Hope I could see you guys again in Paraguay sometime.
That album is so powerful, it takes you on a rollercoaster of sound
Gracias a ustedes por su musica TOTBLXV
Definitely one of the best albums ever. Totally my favorite, I would love to see you guys live.
My favorite dudes in the music industry.
So happy I saw Interpol on the TOTBL tour last year in Belgrade. It was so surreal.
Please come to Asia with your next album! 🙏🏻
Melhor presente de aniversário! Obrigado, Interpol!
Post script: hearing The New live was a religious experience. And I'm not religious.
Interpol is the best. ❤
los amo 🇲🇽🤘
Los amo!
Thank You Mexico City 🇲🇽
I'm crying.
Best album ever, Carlos D was a beast.
2 shows for me so far. If it wasn’t for COVID, I’d go to Interpol shows every year. 😭
I love that there is not one dislike ...interpol is a great band and is easy too fall in love with

Best album of the 21st century
Increíble se les aprecia en México
Beautiful and magical music. I met their music during the same time I met my husband which is a special time, making Interpol part of our courtship years💜
Thank you guys for that chance to share a night so emotional. Mexico loves you guys, and we are waiting that you come back soon.
2019 and still Listening! You were the 'Joy Division' of my time!
You are everything, and more to me Interpol 🖤
Iconic. Interpol has been my favorite band ever since I heard them for the first time back in 2011.
Interpol!!
TOTBL is by far my favorite album EVER to date. Been listening to it for almost 15 yrs and still to this day i still find something new which each listen.
Gracias a ustedes por venir. Fue el mejor show de todos. Ojalá regresen pronto.
I travel from Tijuana to Monterrey last year just to see you guys, one of the bands that marked my childhood, I remember having around 9 years and felt completely paralyzed when I saw Obstacle 1 video and now I have 24 years ,one of the best bands I have ever seen live, almost cried at the show, long life to Interpol.
Son los mejores
Los amo
This album and Is This It by The Strokes are two albums that feel timeless for me
