Paul Banks grabbing a vinyl of John Frusciante...that just blew my mind. One of my favorite musician talking about one of my favorite musicians from anothrr period, thats insane
In nearly every one of these videos, regardless of my familiarity, or feelings about the artist, I come away with something new that piques my curiosity. Thanks for this series, Amoeba!
Hell yeah, that Jesu pick. I interviewed Sam way back in the day, for Antics tour. Wish I would've known his love for Industrial music, we could've geeked out on it.
I was surprised he'd be so into electronic stuff and not know Jk Broadrick or Godflesh. Hopefully that Jesu opens the old doors for him. Plus Godflesh would be great guests on this show, since they just played an LA festival.
MrLando0 Sam is the coolest! omg. Him mentioning Wax Trax took me wayyy back lol. I had to dig out my Propaganda, Ministry and Dominatrix records... good times.
@@Carlos_RodriguesS2 Agreed. Vegans age pretty well. Isn't Jared Leto a vegan and he looks really young. And Woody Harrelson too. I'm not a vegan btw. Just an observation.
Martin Sheen puts on his coat like that because he sevierly injured his shoulder and he learned how to swing it like that because that's the only way he can get his coat on.
This reminds me of the way Jonathan Frakes approaches chairs before sitting, due to a back injury. Google "the Riker maneuver" (which btw sounds like an Interpol song title 🤭).
These guys have such great taste in music. I discovered liars from this video, I paused the video and went to Apple Music and grabbed their whole discography and listened to the album he picked and I’m so excited to have something new and weird to listen to. I already own everything else they pulled out physical and digital. these videos are always a great way to discover new music. This series alone has opened me up to new music and and led me down a rabbit hole of finding so much diverse, amazing sights and sounds. I watch every episode even when I have no idea who is in the episode, even people I can’t stand I watch it and find something I like from their bag.
Damn, it's been some years since I was a teen (2003?), and did nothing but sit in my room and listen to Interpol all day, trying to find every single interview and random videos of them on the net. This was pre RUclips, mind you.
Niadra Ladies!!? Sickk i fell in love with that album in 10th grade and still trip out to it often. Inspiring to know i can relate to another musician like Paul!
Omg if I saw them in a music store!? We've only seen them 5 times! ❤ True story: One time my hubby was having a particularly tough day, some setbacks. It was a heavy heavy day, but on this day we had tickets to go see Interpol with Blonde Redhead. The show was amazing! But at the end of the show, Sam walked up to the edge of the stage and handed my hubby his stix. The same stix he used to play their amazing set. It was so awesome! It was like a confirmation that things were going to be ok. Brings tears to my eyes because he really needed something good to happen. I'll never forget that show.
Per Paul's pick, I tossed on the Liars album and my god, it kicks soooo much ass! Amazing drum sound, groovy prominent Bass & a perfectly shrillness to the guitars. It's also wildly catchy. Thank you for a new favorite record Interpol!
I like the dude on the left for picking up new stuff to check out... stuff he's not entirely sure about. So many WIMB episodes have people holding court on records they already own.
Fun fact: Jesu is the solo project of Justin Broadrick, first guitarist for Napalm Death and also founder/guitarist for Godflesh. Amazing artist, I highly recommend taking a deep dive into all of his projects if you like Godflesh or Jesu. Techno Animal, GOD, Greymachine and a bunch of others are all amazing.
Paul wants to talk about rhythm sections then let's talk about the band he's in! Interpol's was incredible with Sam and Carlos. I'd argue that the rhythm section for Interpol is more front and center than the guitars. No shot to the current lineup though - Paul's done a good job on bass.
Maybe it's not even the right style to define, but you gave hope to an inveterate fan of post-punk at the time you came out. thanks for that. hug from a brazilian fan!
I saw Liars open for Radiohead eleven years ago. It was still daylight out and the amphitheater was still filling in with people and I felt like my brothers and I were the only people there having our skin peeled off by them.
Bad Brains are still a very underrated and overlooked band imo. If you're into punk you'd probably know them, but they should be far more well-known considering how massive their impact on punk rock was
Good band and good selections. It's the first time I've ever heard anybody else ever reference Die Warzau. That was some great industrial/electronica for its time. Very cool.
i’ve been deeply in love with interpol. saw them countless times. met them in seattle back in 2003 when they played two nights with the stills opening for them. great shows. there’s only ONE other band i put up on the interpol pedestal and that’s WHITE LIES! in all actuality, white lies has been my favorite band just edging out interpol last 5 yrs. ❤❤❤❤❤
Kudos to whoever found and edited Martin Sheen putting on a coat 👍🏻
That's how they teach you in preschool
I laughed too hard at that sequence
No
One arm is shorter than the other, which is why Mr. Sheen puts on his jacket in a quirky way.
especially for the one in the background out of focus behind CJ, that's a deep cut.
Paul Banks is so cool
he's my hero.
Why Carlos, why?

Daniel Kessler is the MAN

His solo stuff is so much better than the band he plays in
Super deep cut
Of all the JF solos that's the last I'd expect!
And Daniel Terrence Malick! John Frusciante Interpol and Terrence Malick existential crisis and spiritual awakening.
Daniel has incredible music taste. From bad brains to pj Harvey. ✨🙌🏼
the martin sheen supercut had me rolling on the floor 😭

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
The editing in this episode is great! Good job constantly stringing visual connections between the choices & the bands stories :)
Editing is amaazing ! loved that Aphex part
