A traditional aerodynamic helmet can be too warm but the vents on a standard road helmet can increase drag. The Protone Road Cycling Helmet (WG11) has a revolutionary design that combines the best of both worlds. Originally developed and extensively wind-tunnel tested together with Team Sky (Now Team INEOS), the Protone delivers professional performance in a sleek and stylish package.
The Protone weighs just 215g and uses a 3D Dry padding with a multi-layer open cell construction process to give a more comfortable ride. It has removable and washable inner padding, made from CoolMax® fabrics and its inner padding fabric has been treated using the Sanitized® antimicrobial process. Additionally, its Octo Fit adjustment system guarantees a perfect fit for any kind of head shape.
KASK has continued to use its Multi In-Moulding Technology to create a polycarbonate cover for the top, base ring and the back of the helmet’s shell. This is joined to the inner polystyrene cap via KASK’s In-Moulding Technology to improve the shell’s shock absorption. Its strengthened frame further reduces the risk of a shock breaking the shell.
    WG11 Safety Test
The Protone passes the stringent WG11 test. This focuses on protection from rotational impact forces, measuring rotational kinematics from both oblique and normal impacts. With this safety test passed, you can be sure the Protone has you covered should you be unfortunate enough to fall from your bike.
    3D Dry tri-dimensional padding
The special internal padding is based on an innovative multi-layer open cell construction process that gives maximum comfort and performance thanks to a series of technical features: - Several ventilation holes that reduce the head-to-pad contact surface by 70% compared to standard designs - 5mm thick padding material that wicks moisture away from the head and moves it to the helmet’s outer shell - fast - Excellent three-way evaporation Aerator position at the top of the helmet boosts safety - The top area is reinforced with an internal plastic sub-structure that increases crash protection and helps maintain the helmet’s integrity after impact.
    CoolMax® material padding
The front of the helmet features a highly effective sweat-absorber that is easily removable and washable.
    Self-adjusting lateral divider
This provides great rider comfort with minimal adjustment required. After putting on the helmet and fastening the chin strap, the divider moves to fit comfortably around the earlobe. The ergonomic design means a great fit for all head shapes and sizes, guaranteeing freedom of movement and excellent ventilation.
    Kask Octo-Fit
Rubberised Micro Dial adjuster provides an improved finger grip. Floating cradle contact points and supports are designed to oscillate freely through 180° allowing a perfect fit on any shaped head. The Skeletal Brackets of the cradle have been designed and refined to provide the best fit and support whilst being as light as possible
    Chin pad with eco-leather chinstrap
The anti-allergy, washable chinstrap is extremely comfortable and helps prevent skin irritation. It incorporates soft lateral spacers, shaped to enable excellent ventilation and avoid that unpleasant ‘sweaty strap’ feeling.

I have the old protone and the new protone icon. The new protone icon is better constructed indeed, but there is one aspect that was not mentioned in the video and that is the fact that on the new protone icon the rear octafit + system can't be moved inside (changed horizontal). On the old version this was possible. This is a slight issue because long arms of glasses can still hit it.

Awesome review, is there an issue with Radar EV glasses which have longer arms then a sutro ? will radar ev s fit in vents nicely also ? thanks in advance

Thanks Roman! I have no Radar EV's to try it with... i'd have thought they would be ok but couldn't be 100% on that!

You told me exactly what I needed to know. I have a 58cm head and I've always felt my current Protone (size L) seemed just a hair too big, but I was worried about the fit of the M being right on the edge since I'm bald and almost always wear a cap. Annoying that Kask doesn't make their sizes overlap (and in fact has a 1cm gap between sizes). But your review gives me confidence to go ahead and try a medium.

@@danielmazzierovitti3115 I went with the medium. It fits, but without much extra room for a cap underneath. Next time I’ll go with a large again.

Any chance you've had issues with the tightening ratchet system breaks on you? I've read more than a few reviews where people say one day all of a sudden the helmets doesn't tighten. I really like how it looks and want to get one but not if it has that issue.

In a single week I have bought two of these from Wiggle. Returned one last Wednesday because the adjustment dial fell apart within seconds of trying it on. And today exactly a week later I received another one in the post, and the exact same thing happened. For a helmet of £245 this is terrible. I've also seen another person reviewing it with the same problem...

    • @wiggle
      @wiggle  2 года назад +1

That sounds pretty savage... Wish i'd given mine more of a test for the video as I had no idea this was a problem. Shouldn't be a problem on a helmet at that price point.

Hi @Ciaran. An update on the issue with your Protone Icon. The manufacturer has identified a faulty batch, and we will be happy to replace all of those found faulty. I'm sure you have already contacted our customer service team but to assure you this shouldn't be a problem with any future Protone helmets (if you wanted to try another one).

I had bought a different helmet on Amazon at the beginning of this summer for my big headed daughter to wear while bicycling and scootering. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0ipcYkXV-2YCp_cBN3HLfzR_OoD0HQYx Well it was WAY too big and not adjustable at all. Previously we had really expensive but adjustable helmets from the local bike store and I didn't really want to pay $50 again for another helmet. I searched and was fairly sure from the reviews that this helmet was what I was looking for- and it was! The pads inside are comfortable, the rim in front provides a bit of shade, but most of all for me there is the dial adjuster in the back which allows for a really secure fit on my daughters head. It seems like it will fit for a few years too which makes me even happier! She loves the pattern and I might end up buying another one for her twin sister (who has a much smaller head!)I definitely recommend this helmet. My daughter is 5 but has a big head. Her twin sister could fit in this one as well but it's a bit big.
