GUNMAN. We had names for how to ad more color to the mix.... DRIP....DRIZZLE......GLUG......BLOOP. so for instance looks like it needs a drip or Magenta.... Or OMG that is way off. Add a BLOOP of blue..... Made it fun.
With the spies Hecker system the camera has a way to auto adjust the formulas. It even has a a section that shows the colors in the mix and how they effect the color.. awesome for tinting colors.
You’ve got a great way of conveying your experience into your videos. I thought it turned out to be a very good colour match. Big thumbs up from me on this and great video topic loved it!
The Gunman Hello mate...not really associated but you should see how my van door turned out today mate...perfect...All with the help and advice on your channel..so thanks. Doing the rear doors now...all filled this evening and ready for tomorrow. Loving my van at the moment 😛
I’m partial red/green colorblind. So picking out a color match is extremely hard. The way I’ve been taught to match is to be a good blender. I can blend white into black and it’s hard for someone to pick out where I started and ended my blend. I could barely see your blend, but I could tell a slight color change in the video too. Just a hair a yellow or something in it. If you didn’t show what panels you were blending into, I wouldn’t of been able to see it. Awesome job, Gunny!
Great video. Best points- knowing when to stop and saying "good enough", before over doing it and making it worse. Asking your co-worker for some quick input on a color you might be struggling with. Know the three dimensions of color takes most of the guesswork out of color matching.
Try doing it partly color blind like me. I always have a guy there to back me up or I am totally screwed. My customers tell me I am the best color matcher. IDK how I do it sometimes.
Im pretty proud of myself that I can see the blend but for sure its still good and like you said, gotta know when to stop messing with it and just let it happen. I worked at a shop for a while where I had to tint my own undercoat of a car then spray only one coat of the true color cuz the owner was too cheap to get me enough paint. I learned how to see colors differently but made everything a tri coat lol
I wish our bodyshop allowed us to custom tint pre-mixed paint like you did. If the shade isn’t right the paint gets binned and a new shade gets mixed up. Can take hours if the colours a pain.
Please do another color match video explaining what “ the flop, and flex “ mean. And also where you get the color chart too mama. Thank you so much brother honestly for taking your time to help the brotherhood man. Sending our love from the US. Subscribing now
Thats basically my job. Color matching. But i dont have your resources as in to spray a test before because i only prepare the paint. I just see the paint on a scale and close it in hopes that the painter knows how to do his job.
Hey Gunnie. I have an issue that I need help with. I have a 60gal compressor 3.2 hp. 3/8 50ft hose. My issue is that every time I set my gun at 29 psi the pressure drops To 20 psi. When I start painting. I have an DeVilbiss flg 4 and an Iwata w 400 belleria. I have a Devilbiss gauge that I got with the flg 4 that I use for both. Please if you can, your advice will be greatly appreciated. Also I have learnt sooo much from you. Your teachings are priceless. A great shout out from Trinidad 🇹🇹

Well Im slightly color blind But I still can match colors. Just need a second set of eyes to back me up. How about that. IMO like you say a trained eye can see that blend. I could barely see it totally acceptable IMO. FYI Magenta cancels out yellow. But turns it more brown. . Doesnt take much. just a Drip. Greys are the hardest color to match. there are a million shades of grey. Yup at the very end I could see the blend in the sun. Maybe a drip of Magenta would have killed that yellow. Any more blue and it would have turned too greenish.
Getting many re-imports from Japan and usually have to make a Sprayout card.. Spectro mostly does a good Job.. But some colors, you just have to get these tinters and correct them by hand. Sometimes fun, sometimes a huge pain in the butt.. If you do it regularly, and you kinda know what you are doing, its not too bad.. And yes, I also 'colormatch' on the fly.. Seeing the Spectro result, I'm pretty sure what to leave out and put in more, despite the correction from Standowin, always good enough for a blend. Nice to see you having fun and no major Issues with Standoblue. Now get some xtreme Clear, curious to know how that will work in your climate :-) Cheers Mate
colour matching is a very difficult job.. i bought some ford moondust silver for my focus, the tin paint was a tad lighter than my car, so i tried my hardest to get it close, and as you say... do it too much, ruines the colour totally... i totally naffed it up :P
Hell yea brother definitely hardest part of trade. I duno bout others but if gona do more vids need to find less bright light 😂 even on phone it blinding. Awesome vid mate 👊
Hey mate need some advice doing a resto mod on a Land Rover series 3 the colour is called comino gold but I’d like to have the same finish as the orange ts5 feistiva have , not sure if it’s candy , any tips
I have been paint for years and ive been sparying cromax for like a year now and i figured out a trix with tri stage white..your going to think im crazy but hear me out..i hate the camera totally hate it.. but i do love it with my tri white..i take a pic of the white after it had been sanded..sound crazy but u have to try it..if i were doing 10 bumper 8-9 out of 10 are panel printable..i camera the white and us the mid coat from the code..

Another great video. Question though. So you added little bits and pieces here a few drops, a little squirt of another colour which gave you that perfect pot. As a practice, how do you then recreate that perfect pot should you need more than you made up? Do you normally write down as you're going?
I just know how much I'll need, it's rare that I run out and I'll usually know before I go to spray. In the case that I think I'll run out but have a pot of matched paint I could mix some of the unmatched paint and use that as what we call a ground coat to get coverage, then apply the matched colour over the top. Apart from that, yes I'd just have to try remember what I did and try do it again, then check it again obviously.
My only question is since its water borne dont you have to clear the spray out to get a good match?? I used the autowave from sikkins and we always had to clear the card to see where your at cause the base looks white until cleared..
I was spraying clear over the cards, it's just 2k clear but with a bit of thinners instead of hardener, makes it dry quick and that way I can just leave it in a gun.
@@TheGunmanChannel gottca, just wanted to make sure. The way paint is constantly changing, sometimes we might miss something that one brand put out versus another. Luv the vids..and like your work..
Hi Gunman I love your vids mate! I'm a mechanic so please excuse me if this is a bit elementary... but in each of your vids where you mix paint it seems you add the tinters and maybe reduce, but I haven't seen you put hardener in before you spray the card etc. When do you add the hardener? Or are the systems that you're using not requiring hardener? Can you detail when a paint needs hardener and when it doesn't? Keep up the good work I'm going to try my hand at this soon...
Hi Gunny, my wife painted some house windows in my garage with an enamel aerosol and got over-spray on my 2019 Harley Glide. Its difficult to see, however any flat facing surfaces feel rough and not smooth like underneath. Different clips show everything from acetone, clay bar to buffing. Any suggestions, what would you do.
Yeah the clay bar or thinners would both probably work. Just be careful if you try thinners just do it really quickly and wipe it straight off, if it's damaging then stop straight away and try another method, then best to use some polish after because the thinners will dry it out.
The Gunman how would you color match something like this? ruclips.net/video/otOYaIFgiTo/видео.html. It seems like it would be a nightmare getting it right since the materials may be different that normal.
Very interesting vid Gunny, I just don't know how you select which colour you need to add when matching, this is just a black art to me, doesn't help that I'm colour blind 😁 fancy taking me on as your dedicated colour matching expert? 😜
you do a spray out on a panel or card an you will c if it need a little more of one or more of the colour the formular call for plus you have to have the eye for it ,you just need to get it close enough to blend
Ship it! Give it the tail light warranty. The warranty expires as soon as you can’t see the tail lights. I would have a lot of success tinting, by making the two best looking variants and mixing them together slowly. Tinting, and prepping bumpers are the worst part of the job.
When was that? I always ship straight away, don't recall sending 2 to the same address. So when was the order and what was the name, I have records of all orders.
