Have you ever had the power go out while you were spraying?
Lmao Brian. I got my merch long ago but the merch didnt improve my painting skills but bro they feel great. One of the nicest tees I own.
Haha super comfy!!
Send me some XXL powers...lol
This guy is the Goat of RUclips auto body painting! By far the best channel on legit good quality painting!
Look up gunman this guy knows his shit😉
@@grantgumbley1004 yessir I’ve seen his channel too, both channels are great!
He’s not that good 😂 He’s alright but there are many better than him
@@AlexanderKubik1993 I’m sure there is lol but like who? that actually does things properly and doesn’t hack. Manufacturer standards
@@AlexanderKubik1993 YOU ARE being kind bro..
Without a doubt, the best RUclips channel on painting cars. Well explained, practical techniques and good presentation. Thanks for this. Definitely going to be helpful when I paint my project.
I am so glad i found this channel.
He's for real!!! I always enjoy these videos!
Thank you Paint Society!
Been clearing with lph400 for years its one of the best guns on the market. No plastic parts inside of it so its durable i love it.
Back in the day I used a Binks number 7 with Dupont Centari. That combo got best awards at car shows. 99A pitch Black. Dupont Centari
This dude keep the process slick, fast but simple. Also shows you that if you do it just chill out. He doesn't overthink everything like I do
I'm a Honda master technician of 11 years and I'm going to paint my project truck soon. I wanted to let you know that your videos are very helpful. I like your teaching style. Straight to the point and not condescending like some guys in the automotive industry. I teach younger technicians in the same manner. Keep up the good work!
- Tom
Thanks Tom! That’s the way to go. Cut out the b/s and get teaching
This guy teaching is the best teacher I've ever heard
I hate spraying pearls when it is a blend. That takes skill, good job Brian!
Great video! Pressure? We don’t need no “magic pressure”. Just *listen* & watch what the gun is doing. Best spraygun advice you will ever get. Well done, Brian.
Its crazy because I've always done that naturally, old lead painter at my job was dead set on psi, I just listen and make sure its atomizing correctly, never had an issue. So happy he just said that cause I thought I was the only one
Hi Mr Brian I'm a 20 + years painter and I have all respect in what you're doing to help in showing young painter and your diy guys. On tips for painting and setting up spray guns. I've watched some of your videos and I think they were very good and helpful. But when it comes to blending pearl's you and I know they can be hateful lol. But I'm so glade that you made this video so people can see the work that we professional painter have to do to make there cars look as good as the do. It's not just buying a $500 iwata and think your going to have a professional paint job. It's the years of long hard work and training that we put in to get as good as we are. Thanks again and keep up the good work....
Dang, when you started shooting the sealer you had the serious octopus arm thing going on..........so fluid. Absolutely great work...........
Lol thanks
I’m a collision tech and the last time I was painting was 2008 in my apprenticeship level 3 and only just doing body/ glass and frames till I took a break from the trade this COVID-19 after 13 years never do paint. I lost my knowledge and skill in the paint shop department
And now, when I found this master, it gives me confident back painting again and I want spray gun so I ordered two spray guns , one for priming and one for base and clear coat and do a hobby in my double garage!!! I’m very glad to see this guy
Great painting instructor on you tube!
So I’ve hopped from trade to trade and
I somehow landed in the paint and body world I’ve only been at it for a little over a year but I love it. I learn so much from this channel dude thank you
I stumbled onto your channel and I'm loving it. I'm going to tackle the paint on my 1970 Mustang, and through your channel I've gained so much confidence. More specifically the order of operations, especially with jambs, and the two tone stripe I'll be applying. Keep up the amazing content, and Thank You!
The #1 thing I picked up was to let it flash properly so that it doesn't keep soaking it up. Total ah ha moment! Thanks Brian.
If you learn one thing then my job is complete!!
All these vids are awesome and very useful, I have been painting for years now and I wish Brian was around when I started, such valuable information and very clear and easy to follow. I'm hitting a car with silver tomorrow and was dreading it but after watching his vid on silver metallic I'm actually looking forward to it, Thanks Brian and cheers from the land down under.
Another great video, i paint furniture for a living, spraying it, but after watching your videos i have had the confidence to paint my bonnet and back doors on my ford custom van including knocking out some big dents, the bonnet is finished and looks amazing I will be finishing the rear doors today, all work carried out by my apollo 5 stage turbine, like you mine came with a 1.3 needle set up and i had to colour sand the clear coat but now i have a .8 and 1. Set up to try today,, was always scared of metallic but it looks amazing, and its all been done out side,, i live near london
love the tips re: the bumper color vs the fenders! back when the plastic parts and bumpers were coming out there color matches were so bad we got away with murder because that was the norm! even worse color changing when we had to put flex additives in the paints ! would ruin otherwise decent color matches!!!
Love watching the videos! I know your a professional but when I use wax and grease remover not only will I wipe in one direction but I fold the rag over each time (not wanting to push anything I've wiped off into the other sections). Yes, I go through a few rags (that's the way I was taught). LOL!!
What do you guys use for lint free rags and do you launder/re-use them?
I wanted to know how to properly paint an exterior door… with a spray can… and I discovered your channel and now I can’t stay away. I don’t think I’m going to paint a car any time soon, but still. Why not get some knowledge?
Some good information here. Also I find it helpful to watch your spray technique. Keep it clean, build it up in layers, leave some area to blend, let it flash and vapor off. I can do this. Thanks Brian.
For real the best automotive paint channel.
Thank you for your videos. I'm banking on myself. Investing into the right equipment.
Best explanation ever. Greetings from Bulgaria 🇧🇬.
Loving Paint Society , currently painting with rattle cans , I’m moving to air sprayer next job , trying to figure out first gun purchase
THis fella is pretty much explaining every step and everything he uses for perfect painting lol, thumbs up!
You handle your paint gun the way my Dad taught me. I see most people backing off the fluid at the end of each stroke and then hitting it again when they come back LOL.
You keep your trigger pulled all the time you're painting like you're supposed to. 👍👍
I love your channel brother...I learned Alot from you and from nothing to an amazing painting machine I have turned into... thankyou for being a good teacher.. I am very grateful
I encountered all 5 mistakes in my first DIY spray can paint job today: pinholes, grainy clear coat in some areas, flat matte clear coat in some areas, orange peel, and improper overlay spray resulting in tiger stripes. The only mistake I'm really concerned about is the tiger stripes. I don't know how to fix it especially considering the improper overlay spray didn't surface till I laid 3 coats of clear coat. Brian, a cool vid to watch would be if you could mimic those errors and show us how to fix them. Thanks again for all that you do.
GREAT tips, stuff my dad swore by when he had his shop before retiring. How you don't have 1 million subscribers is beyond me. Rock solid information as always.
Hopefully in time !
@@PaintSociety Hell yeah man, I'm spreading the word to all my car friends, because you have great info. Your spray painting videos made a few of my friends subscribers to your channel, by the way. Since we're all in the COVID crunch and can't afford a decent Air Compressor and paint gun, at least yet, spray cans is all we have. And your videos that talk about the stages, steps, what to do and what not to do when using spray cans, great stuff.
Muy bien Bro saludos desde Honduras 🇭🇳excelente video 👍👍
Lol, I have literally never blended fenders or quarter panels to match a bumper job. Top notch 😆
From someone who used to make paint thinners and cleaners for a living, here is a tip. The paint manufacturers charge an arm and two legs for their name brand cleaners. For solvent cleaning ( wax and grease removers) you can use VM&P Naptha, found in your local hardware store. For plastic parts, use Denatured Alcohol as a cleaner and anti-static remover. These are the basic ingredients for these products. VM&P Naptha may not be available in your state due to air quality regulations.
Always the best info on how to and what not to, when it comes to painting a car. Thanks so much for taking the time to make these incredible videos Brian, you are the man. Take care my friend, Gary
Thanks Gary!
By far the best painting vid on RUclips. Keep up the great wrk
Yes on the paint code being close but not ever right. You need to match how the original has changed with time and sun exposure, as it will be a few shades off. Especially on light colours and for bright colours as well.
A paint dealer in my hometown present me with different shades of purple for me to choose based on its age.. saves me the trouble of picking the right one.
Yeah i use transtar paint and i always have to manually adjust the colors. I must say it takes a special skill to freestyle the adjustment on colors
Hello Paint Society,I am new to your channel and subscribed.....I do Car painting for a living in the Phillippines,,we have the same technique but the big difference is the equipments.Car repair and repainting is the big thing in the Phillippines, sadly we are underpaid..Paint Society I wish i can work in your country...
Thanks Brian, I'm learning slowly and getting better thanks to your shared knowledge.
Brian is a bad man! Sharp job sir!!
You should teach at Tech College, you are really helpful. About blending colour to the bumpers, Lexus comes ex-factory Japan with different shade poly bumpers, maybe show the customer this first on the other side, this way you can concentrate on blending the metal panels to each other.
Just recently found your channel, love the tips and tricks. Going to paint my civic and project truck this summer, I will definitely let you know how it goes.
How did they turn out 😃
@@jaybone9 a work in progress lol
You are a fantastic teacher!
Adhesion Promoter has saved me NUMEROUS times!! Good vid!!
I like my sata digital 2000, it’s 15 years old but works great. The devilbiss copper tekna I have is also a great spray gun. I enjoy your videos brother.
I use a SATA jet 4000 rp. I love the finish it gives but I absolutely HATE the fan control. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to change it from 2 full turns, to 1/4 turn from fan to stream. Then the pin gets worn out and the knob will turn to full stream mid coat and fuck a whole paint job up! So now I use the Tekna Pro 🤣
@@bigdad4977 About how many paint jobs before the pin gets worn out? I have a 4000rp in the box and I am afraid I made a mistake buying it?
@@PhillipHall01 couldn't tell you how many, but we've had it for probably 3 years used roughly 2-4 times a week before it got bad.
@@bigdad4977
Thanks, I won’t be using mine a fraction of that much. If I can just learn how to use it . lol
The first man ive watched that knows what hes talking about. Especially when he said theres no magic air pressure watch what the gun is doing, 100% true. Also how regulators arent exactly calibrated equally is also 100% true. Nice to see someone thats no bullshit and isent making a video for there own ego or self esteem issues.
Thank you William!
@@PaintSociety no problem man. Got to give credit where credit is due especially the time were living in. I always call it like i see it, there's no filter from my brain to my mouth nor to my fingertips.
What a great tutorial. You explain the process very well!
You have given me motivation and inspiration ! Thank your.
I have watched many of your videos and learned so much on each project that on old retired guy can take on. I can't say thanks enough, and I mean this in the best way possible. You my friend are an artist in your craft and I swear you could fart in a mason jar full of paint and get a shine that I could only dream of on the car !!! LOL, keep up the great work !!! Your stickers are on my compressor as a reminder, " Don't Over Think It, It's Just Paint !"
Just got the one with the orange air cap on it with a 1.8mm ordered a 1.3mm rebuild kit so I can use it for clear coat as well but will make sure I clean it really good when I wanna spray clear with it love it sprayed high build primer just fine with the 1.8mm
Brian, love your channel and it has been immensely helpful in my getting up to a standard I'm now reasonably proud of. What attracted me to the title of this video, was common mistakes. And for me the biggest problem I found for a DIY working in a less than ideal environment has been .... Dirt and bugs, how to minimize it, accepting it is a fact of life.
Leaving aside the obvious working environment, its painting techniques to minimize dirt and bugs I would love to hear your thoughts on.
A recent Standox training video on 3 stage pearl blending I watched, and the guy briefly bakes his base coat to completely dry it before applying his pearl, allowing him to tack it prior to applying the pearl. I was just apply the pearl with the same flash times as my base e.g. 7 minutes without tacking. Allowing the base to completely dry for about 20 minutes (to somewhat equate to his short bake result) and tacking it before the pearl definitely resulted in a MUCH cleaner final outcome. The guy making the Standox video makes a comment always tack between coats, but I unclear if he means even between basecoat coats, or just between base/pearl/clear.
Love to hear your thoughts on this.
Brian, you are the master. Yes I will buy some T'Shirts. Really enjoy watching your episodes. I do wonder why you have 20 different spray guns in your cabinet? Perhaps an episode of the styles of paint guns you choose, features for certain applications. I am a rattle can junkie trying to get into spray guns for better results. Thank you.
Love watching your prep. I learn a ton, thanks man!
Bro, as a Lover and Admirer of music and cars, dude anyone, and l mean anyone who knows his kraft to the letter and with no flaws, no lies, he or she doesn't slack and cut corners, this is a person who has basically spent their whole life doing said craft.... And might I add that this brother, not only does he know his craft very well in auto body but I will venture on a bet that he digs and researches and tests and has experience in every facet of auto body that we just merely watching in a RUclips video can't even begin to imagine.... knowledge of what this brother gives, shows and spills out his mouth don't just fall into your lap or hands everyday, you have to earn it the old fashioned way, hard, extremely hard work, much sweat, they're chemicals so there might be some tears.....
Food, culinary arts, music sound rhythm, sports, auto repair, computer programming, any time you see a pro at what they're doing best believe they've been doing it all they're life there's no doubt...
Yes of course he can teach any college level course in auto body and paint.... when I listen and watch all his moves and the things he says there's no doubt in my mind he's been doing this all his life PLUS the years of knowledge given to him by his mentors as he was coming up as a young lad in The Paint Society !
Respect Bro... I admire your knowledge and wisdom and appreciate you sharing your life with us
it's facetious to say "don't over think it, it's just paint" but I get it

Loved this and wish I’d seen this video years ago. I’ve had some hard lessons!
Great advice to live by. " Takes twice as long to do it wrong"!
I have a pump spray bottle where I do a 70/30 mix for cleansing panels once in the booth, 70%is the anti static cleaner(alcohol) and the 30% is the water Bourne cleaner, doesn’t leave any residue and it cleans all the oil and finger prints very well
Great information CC500, we all like paint knowledge, thx for sharing. 🇬🇧
Legend ! Always great explanations.
This video has inspired me to try roll up car painting.
You explain and break things down really good brother.
Honest tips. You are the best. God bless you always bro.
Learned something from this one here. Always learning but man didn’t know about the shake instead of stir. Usually shake in the Paint Gun after a minute or two in between. I guess I’ve been lucky, phew.
Watching your videos taught me a lot. Keep up the good work. I sprayed my 96 corolla two tones. Came out so great
This channel is a God send! Thank you for such excellent tutorials. Sending a warm shout fae Scotland. Cheers and all the best. J
That was amazing and so informative. Keep up the great work!
Love this man thanks I’m a young painter and I want to improve my quality
hi sir, absorption of volatile substances such as paint particles through the facial skin and eye membranes is quite high, highly recommend using sealed eye goggles 😁 stay safe
This guy is the bomb a wealth of great info 🙏 and a great instructor as well 🙏 God Bless thank you!
Learning a ton with your videos... Keep them coming. 👍
Another awesome video bro!! Love all the knowledge u share with us!!
Good Stuff... Thanks for Sharing. Great Tips and Reminders... Gotta Slow Down to Speed Up the process. You can't push quality.
Finally some one take the real world
Nice job man 💯
I'm so glad that I've come across this channel because this is exactly what I need right now. I always wanted to try automotive painting and now I've decided that I'll bring in some accents on my car by painting the mask, diffuser, side skirts, and side mirrors. So far I've managed with spray cans but the 2K clear coat in a spray can is really pricey so I'm preparing to do a clear coat with an HVLP mini spray gun.
Thanks for the info. You really have help me so much
Great videos man, knew a little about painting already but I've learned so much more from you
You right man there is no magic pressure
But your hand is magic buddy✌✌✌
Buen trabajo y explicado, estoy aprendiendo del canal. Un saludo desde las islas canarias.
Man love the explanations, love the camera work, love everything about this channel. keep them coming
Usually Even the music is fire!!😎🥇
I've learned a lot from you Brian. Thank you very much.
If it’s a difficult color. You use a gray tone sealer. Then you can use a color appropriate base coat before your actual Color Match basecoat. It works guys. Try it. I’m a ENVIROBASE and a ultra9 painter. It works.
Thank you for sharing ! These tutorials are priceless!
Great video. Saved me from making a lot of mistakes.
Love these videos love learning new tricks and applying them at work it keeps me constantly fresh and makes work that much easier
This guy is gifted twice lol great painter and a great talker
Thank you!
Sata’s a good brand no more or less orange peel just depends on what kind of gun you like the feel of and you like the way it sprays.
I've gotten a quart from the paint store, ran out took the can in,they use the same ingredients, and its always off for some reason they can't explain.now I buy a little more than needed to make sure I finish the job with the same mixture.
Man he makes it look easy :)
Even the stock paint on bumpers looks different than the fender, so I wouldn't bother. Anyway nice video 👍
Dude i really appreciate your knowledge man cant wait to finally try it for my self
Even if you blend up to fenders the color still gonna be off a little with bumper, especially with pearl white , even factory is off but thats just me. But Nice job and explanation none the less bro👍
Excellent video.Thanks for your time.
Really good presentation. Thank you.
So lovely. Thanks
Congratulations , I follow your advises and they all work out chest perfect for MI ( thank you )
ThankYou So Much for all your great videos it helped me do a great job and learn in minutes what takes Years to learn
Blesd You for Your good work
Man great job you rock brotha!
🤔🤔🤔I notice Brian never blows things off with compressed air, wonder why??
I'll be interested in seeing a video of you breaking down the gun and cleaning it thoroughly. I watch quite a few paint videos and I've never seen anybody do that. Hopefully you do and hopefully I get to see it
I have a video on that already 😀
Great video and yes your right do it right first time
