    Brian I’m excited to tell you and my fellow viewers I got word from the company I work for 2 days ago they are making me a painter! They are send me to train in Long Island and train me in the shop. Started watching you 3 years ago before I started autobody and here I am only 2 years in and becoming a painter! Your videos are a great guide learned most of it from you. Thank you for teaching me that this is the channel where the learning does not stop after the video ends!

    I started to paint regularly 6 months ago. I have around 100 car parts behind me. Runs were nightmare at the beginning, but at this time, I've learned also how to remove them by polishing. So it was also good school. Don't give up, and seriously slow down, it helps. Cheers

    In the custom fab/hot rod shop I worked in, we used air hose guides which get placed in front of the tires so as you dragged air hoses and extension cords around the vehicle, they would "slide" and not get stuck.
    They've been around forever and work great.
    Thanks for all your educational videos - much appreciated 👍

    Brian, you've just made me realize before I sell my dv1 clear gun that I was advised to use 1.3 tip 1.2 is the way to go to hold concentration on over lap and slow down,
    Why painters are slating the dv1 for being too slow are krazy .
    Spraying even is the way to go & that's what the dv1 is designed to do.
    Keep up the good work & take care
    Thanks

    Love your videos, brian! I ended up buying a gun you recommended awhile back the Eastwood elite CC500. I have to say I love it! I had the paint on my wife’s car pealing and fading decided I’ll try it. Hands down for being a diy myself it came out almost perfect. Only reason it didn’t come out perfect is because I don’t have a garage but a dirt driveway. Even with that my paint job came out great! I’m considering doing this for a living.

    This is the best paint video on RUclips, hands down. I’ve been painting since 2011 and I have watched lots and lots….and lots of paint videos. This is by far has the best knowledge…everything matters!! That being said I do one thing different, on the opposite end of your blend panel have you ever noticed that the clear can change the color? Not so much on dark colors or really even on solid colors either, but silvers and golds and well…most colors. If there is too much clear over the color it will change the look of the color, the illusion makes the color look different. What I like to do is, on my first coat of clear, stay about 8-10 inches(at least cover your blended base)or so from the edge of the blend panel (the edge that didn’t get blended) then on your second coat clear the whole panel. This will limit the amount of clear going on over the original color that you’re trying to save (there was already clear there so just one new coat plus the clear that was already there is plenty of protection from the elements.) It’s like if you were looking down into a swimming pool, shallow on one end and deep on the other. The bottom of the pool is the same color, but the depth of the water creates the same illusion of too much clear over a color you’re trying to preserve. Also with this method, I wouldn’t put my clear base all the way to the end of the panel. Spies hecker has a blending clear that I use but I only cover my blend area with it so I can limit the material going on the end of my blend panel…hope this helps. Like your channel a lot man keep it up!

    You make spraying clear look effortless. I have been struggling with that. Getting runs and orange peel and all that. I've played with pressure and speed and distance even got a better gun ($160 gun) bust still struggling. I know I need more time with it to get better but it's frustrating . I've been painting a truck in pieces and did the tailgate 3 times before being ok with it. Keep up the good work.

    Great video! My two cents for the sealer issue would be instead.. take a little more time with the prep and sand the primer with 600 so you can go straight to base at least in the jam where you are concerned.. that primer is almost the same color as your sealer anyway!

    • @austinthebeast33
      @austinthebeast33 Год назад

      I agree with your point but sealer is cheap insurance for scratches you may have missed, creates a soft edge which hides easier, gives your base a chemical bond , and gives you coverage a lot faster . Also your colors change and depend on the shade of sealer for its overall look . If you were to spray your base over black, medium Gray, and light gray on 3 different sprayout cards they will all be different colors, even on solid colors. There are more pros than cons for using sealer in my professional opinion.

    • @bodyshopsolutions695
      @bodyshopsolutions695 Год назад

      @@austinthebeast33 I guess it just depends on what paint you’re spraying! With glasurit 100 line almost none of what you’re saying applies. I was also speaking to the job he was doing but yes more often than not sealer is the better option

    Fantastic videos! It’s great to seee such a competent paint tech! I would like to mention (although new to me too) that those daylight torch things are great before you clear because they show the bits that didn’t cover! Some primers won’t be covered by some bases. my torch isn’t a pure paint torch but it works identical to those. It’s the ring ril3600. It gives off daylight.its saved my ass before and I would never have seen it until it went out into the sun. for anybody who isn’t sure what I mean just look into daylight tor he’s and the light warmth spectrum required. I promise it’s another great tool just like his tape folder!

I don't know why I'm nervous ( it's just paint, I'll get it on the car) so I'm watching some of your older videos. For base, I know I'll have to play around with pressure with certain blends. When you finish a process take a step back look at the job as you have fresh eyes on it, just a few minutes to check over your own work,, you said something like that in the video and that it is the key, to becoming a better painter, preparation is key. I love watching other people paint because you never know everything, and if I can learn 1 or 2 things from a video of any painter on RUclips, go away try it and if works for me I use it, if it doesn't work but maybe I can use it in a certain circumstance it's still a bonus,.
    Was there a bubble under the paint in the front door passed the blend 170mm / 7 inches rough in from the front door, the hinge side and just above the swage line, it looked like something if you fixed it it the front wing/fender would need blended as well, where do you stop.
    Keep up the videos there good and have you ever clear coated Carbon Fibre from a raw state, I've been on a learning curve for the last 2 years every now and again a job comes in of about 40 piece's of Carbon Fibre from a car company who hand build cars and subcontractors the parts to be built of site.. , I would like to hear your thoughts,
    it's only clear coat was my thoughts at first, ..now it's how do I speed the process up, I'm open to ideas ❤️

    What would you recommend for painting a whole chassis (including under carriage and engine bay) at home? I would like to make my old ford focus in the ford ultimate green (A three part paint i want to also do a 2k clear coat on). There isn't a shop anywhere near me that'll take a chassis. can I do the under body and engine bay at different times from the rest of the car? It's a big endeavor but to me it's worth it in the long run to protect the body from rust. And how would I get most of the paint chemicaly stripped with a grinder/wire brush to do touch ups.

    If I have extra base coat in a quart from the jams. Can I spray the light primer areas to match better on the body knowing that I will sand them before final paint with my new gallon of paint? I’m painting the car the same color and most of it is scuffing just some small dents and chips that will be in primer

    Brian, if u went to 1.3 or 1.4 for Clear wouldn't u be able to apply more and still have it flow out with your slow hardener rather than 1.2 and moving slow?

      using a larger tip size will also make ur droplet size alot larger aswell. which also means the greater chance of runs and other problems. Alot of painters are transitioning to using a smaller tip size like a 1.2. Cause thats how u get that glass look alot of painters want to achieve.

    Sikkens also has a multi use primer in the Caribbean which can convert into a sealer .So does that type work also because it is not the Colorblind system 🤔. Good info bro

    Hi, I have been watching your videos as I get closer to time to paint my project. I'm not new to the body work and blocking or even color sanding and buffing because I grew up doing that but I will be new to the painting. I am too the point where I need to buy a gun. I have a 7.5 hp 120 gal compressor so I don't specifically need a low cfm gun but I was looking at the Eastwood guns and was wondering what you think of them and if they are good what one would you recommend. I dont mind if I have 2 buy a set w 2 guns or something or multiple tips because I will need to spray paint primer and clear. Thank you

    thank you for your videos man, it has really helped improve on my skills since switching from ppg to sikkens. I am going on flat rate soon since my employer is really pushing me, and they offered me an apprenticeship and to acquire my certificates because I have 4 years of painting experience(not in shop) , but only a year in an actual shop now.
    My biggest problem I am having here and there, is clear runs, paint matching white colors and mazda 41v. Can anyone help me out? It really stresses me out and makes me think my skills are not good enough to be a painter some days..

    Honestly, I totally respect that you have found a way into RUclips to make videos for applicators. It takes years of experience to become a Painter, no one becomes a painter in a year or 2. As long as I have work in this industry you are the first guy that claims to know what is doing without the fundamentals of masking. As a professional you should know how to do a flip tape with the small tape and the 1 1/2 tape as well. Like I said more power to you, but please don’t claim your self to be a painter with out knowing the fundamentals! It is disrespectful to those of us that have to learn this for many years in this trade. However I had a question for you….. have you ever been to SEMA?

    • @JimmyJiveJones
      @JimmyJiveJones Год назад

      So whats ur definition of a painter? I became a head painter in less than 2 years. Ive seen guys come thru my shop and become painters in less time than that. Ive also seen painters with 10-20 years experience and paint like its their first time. Theres no certain amount of experience, or knowledge or criteria that has to be met for you to be a "painter". Brians just here sharing his wealth of knowledge and what works for him. He never claims to know everything.

    • @franciscoangeles320
      @franciscoangeles320 Год назад

      @@JimmyJiveJones my definition of an experience painter is one who has master prepping, masking, cleaning and cutting the plastic once a car is inside the booth. But above that is knowing how to fix your mistakes and not walking away from it, also knowing the ins and outs of the paint line you are spraying with. I have meet a lot of you so call Painters that become painters in 2 years and I always end up helping them fixing their mistakes.

    • @JimmyJiveJones
      @JimmyJiveJones Год назад +2

      @@franciscoangeles320 i guess im not an experienced painters cause i rarely ever use plastic. U know theres usually never a right or wrong way to do things. As long as the results are there thats all that matters. Theres things that Brian does i would never do, and then theres other things ive learned from him by watching his videos. Im pretty sure if u posted a video on ur process on how to prep and paint. Id be able to nit pick ur process aswell.

    For me the biggest problem with clearcoat is the massive overspray. It is hard to get a good finish if you can't see what you are doing
