Plus, the glasses that Kimari uses at the OP are the same ones that she buys when they land in Australia, it is amazing how they included this at the series in a so natural way. Moreover, I would say that is really important that at that shot, it's Yuzuki who is laughting, because she's finally doing something with someone who can really can her friends, even if it is just as "stupid" as playing with the glasses, she really enjoys doing whatever with friends, as she couldn't before. I totally love this series.

When he talks about the girls poses being so specific, it looks similar to the first four symbols at 8:17 The Girls Are Alright, right above that. The first four symbols. The second girl is just jumping and putting her hands out to be the line
I can see it too, more so with the third and fourth symbol. Though it does look like it, I don't think the poses correlate with that specifically since the katakana translates to "opening..." But with the full text translated being "opening song," which would be "The Girls Are Alright," right below it.
Lililana Bright You're looking at the wrong place, in Japan it's winning in BD preorder sales alongside Yuru Camp while Violet Flopgarden and Darling in the Memexx are struggling.
8:06 I don’t know any katakana, but the girls’ poses look kind of similar to the first four characters above the “The Girls are Alright!” text (shown about ten seconds after 8:06 in the video). I don’t know if those characters mean anything without the other characters following it though so i don’t know if this is correct.
I think "onekoe" (オネコエ) is most likely, but it's not a word (unless they're respectfully referring to pictures of cats), so I don't know what it means either.
I think rendering technology in general is getting better, but until they correct for the way the human brain works a person will be able to see the difference.
I get the feeling there are tons of CGI in anime that is easily misidentified as hand drawn, and some shots that may look like CGI might actually be done by hand. Even in movies these days, CGI gets used to make small corrections and it hardly goes noticed. It's only really noticeable when it's done too much and without the right amount of layers to make it blend in.
My favorite anime of all time. I watched in one year ago when it came out and rewatched it two weeks ago. It never fails to amaze me and I‘m currently actually saving money to go to the Antarctica as well. This anime motivated me to change my life and how is it supposed to change if I don‘t do anything?

WUG WUG WUG....Ahem.... Wake Up Girls tend to do a lot of these cutsey moe anime OP's these days, sometimes they partner with other more well known artists
This show and the OP are amazing. It's definitely my favorite show this season, and this is coming from a guy that usually just likes to watch action shows a lot. And for anybody that's still skeptical, if the words "Madhouse Original Anime" don't get you at least a little bit curious about this show, I don't know what else to say. You just really need to watch this.
Number 1 show of the season, masterful directing and characterization that hits you hard and fast. The OP is adorable and fantastic at pumping you up for the next episode. Number 2 is Darling in the Franxx, it took a couple episodes to get the ball rolling with episode 5 being the best in the series so far. The OP is badass and the visuals remind me of a less cryptic Cruel Angels Thesis.
Being newer to this channel I had no clue you did this video until today, it just makes me glad as so far this year this has been my favorite anime. The ride it takes you on is amazing, with plot points you never expected, especially a certain one that smacks you hard in the feels at the end. The animation was amazing, the cast for the main girls was outstanding (4 of my favorite seiyuus in one damn show), the OP I saw exactly as you described, and the ED song is simply touching and such a great song to just listen to that'll just put a smile on your face for no explainable reason. I wish more people looked into this anime like you have because this one legitimately changed my outlook on life.
This show in INCREDIBLY and surprisingly tear jerking at times. Go watch it if you haven't seen it! Also Yuzuki best girl, an opinion which I haven't seen much of yet
Joe Taylor The first time you see "Dear okaasan" I didn't really get it and just carried on watching. The second time, I got it, and burst immediately into tears.
I'm loving this show and have been looking forward to it since the PV. The 4 main girls might have my favorite dynamic in any show in awhile, as for my favorite its gotta be Hinata, I just love how she can come off as genki and crazy but also clearly has a level of maturity underneath all that.
I've been rewatching this anime for a while now and still cried everytime. I've been suffering with anxiety and mental issues for more than a decade now (Dysthymia and OCD according to a doctor) and Himari's outlook at the start kinds of reflect me til now and I really envy her on her journey to somewhere.
All this incredible direction, editing and stunning artwork in this OP and the thing that still gets me is the fucking adorable cut to the girls jumping the skipping rope to the lyrics of *"jumpu-shite"* It's not even the most amazing OP song ever, it's just the absolute expert confidence in bringing the storyboarding and editing together with the music. Incredible
This show is so amazig. Watching it makes me want to drop everything and go to fucking Antarctica in a soul searching trip, and you know a story is good when it makes you want to try new things, no matter how absurd it is
Nova de Lins Yeah,After watch this anime where 4 girl have a passion going to Antarctica, I'm immediately find the trip to Antarctica in the Internet and....It's cost a fortune.. Definitely gonna work harder!
The best I can tell, the poses at 8:05 don't really mean anything. Together, the girls on the left almost look like the kanji "行" and the girl second to the right looks like a backwards hiragana "く", which would spell out the dictionary form of "to go" or "iku." But then I'm not entirely sure what the girl on the right would be. Her pose resembles like the kanji "工" or the katakana character "エ," neither of which really make any sense with "iku". None of that is to say it doesn't have some sort of meaning. It could very well spell out something in kanji, as I am still learning Japanese. However, with my knowledge and the help of Jisho.org, I can't seem to find any sort of meaning behind their poses. Hope this helps.
They're all katakana (オネコエ), but unless they're respectfully referring to pictures of cats that's not actually a word so I don't know what it actually means.
I'm not sure about this but I saw japanese comments in other's video that it actually says よりもい (yorimoi) which is the anime name. I don't get it why thou.
If the UFO is foreshadowing and I was right that this show secretly has some kind of Lovecraftian At the Mountains of Madness inspired twist I will never trust anything again
Between the UFO, the title, and the old poster in the strip mall shot juxtaposing space exploration with the antarctic exploration depicted in the rest of the OP, it would not shock me if this series ended in one or more of the girls getting abducted by aliens
Even though I am Japanese, 8:06 is not identified any kanji, hiragana, or katakana. I think it just jumping poses which are appeared their character. BTW, 2:20 BGM's lyric says "大切なみんながいれば、きっと平気。" means "when my precious friends are together, we are alright" in Japanese. The actual OP scene synchronized the image and lyric. The cut is the first of her 4 friends appearing.
something I really enjoy is that Hinata is always less clothed than the others, since she's the one least affected by the cold. Sometimes it's very subtle like her jacket not being zipped all the way to her chin but whenever I notice stuff like that I know the staff cared. Not every show will have small details like this in its opening of all places where the shots are short and therefore not including less important details can be excused
Also 12:58 notice how far the sun has moved alone the horizon while it is sinking, very nice animation for an actual phenomenon in the Antarctica during summer
Just from this analysis, I could name exactly which K-On! character each girl is inspired by. And, considering K-On! is my favorite anime, that's a good indicator that this will be my first binge session of the season.
Today's episode of this show made me fucking cry. I survived Koe no Katachi but cute girls on a boat made me bawl like a damn baby. I love this show. I know about 521 kanji (out of 2147) so take my word with a grain of salt, but their positions don't look much like the characters I've learned. Quite a shame, I'd love that kind of symbolism. The best I can do is the 1st girl who may look like a bit like SU す; the 2nd girl may look a bit like the character for ten 十 and the 3rd girl like a simple arrow >; the 4th position which kinda looks like the character for soil 土. So す十>土 which means nothing (sad news). Also, you not knowing whom to pick for best girl says less about the cuteness and perfection of all the girls involved and more about *your* commitment issues (Yuzuki best girl until the end of the world, by the way).
IMO 4th position could be 大 (source: fiddling around with google translate's handwriting recognizer) and "big" sounds more logical to add here than "soil".
I agree! They depicted almost what a "real" friends would be like when they go to an adventure. It is not like they only have fun and stuff with a lil bit of forced drama, but no. They showed 4 extremely relatable characters with their very relatable background stories and how they act with a very high sense of individuality, especially is ep 7 where Hnata lost her ticket. It is just very realistic!
favourite ops of the season besides this one which is my favourite favourite: Kokkoku-"Flashback"-MIYAVI vs KenKen (still on the fence about the actual show but goddamnit this OP is great) YuruCamp: "Shiny Days"-ASAKA (major jackson 5 vibes) Pop Team Epic: "Pop Team Epic" Sumire Uesaka AND the Hoshiiro Girldrop fakeout op "Twinkling Star" performed by Sumire Uesaka, Yui Ogura, and Inori Minase After the Rain: "Nostalgic Rain"-CHiCO with Honeyworks (fantastic ED as well "ref:rain" by Aimer) And of course the remix of Devil no Uta will continue to be stuck in my head forever and ever until the end of time. I'm probably forgetting some but that's all I can think of at the moment.
Just FYI, they are posing with a seal (not a manatee) and the southern lights you would see in Antarctica are called the Aurora Australis (not Borealis) because they are in the southern hemisphere.
Absolutely amazing video on probably my favorite anime in quite some time, and all I can comment on is how I loved the use of the Woodland Kingdom's music from Super Mario Odyssey at the end of the video.
I'm so happy that you chose to do the What's in an OP for YoriMoi! It is my favorite opening in quite a long time, with the same reasoning you used. This is also by far, my favorite anime of the season. As for best girl... I would have to give it to Hinata, with Yuzuki being a close second. Hinata has been my favorite since her motive was mentioned, and it was only made stronger with the Durian episode.
I never picked up on the digging latrines part, nor the chalk drawing at the end being what they were doodling at the very start. It's absolutely genius though.
A tendance I have noticed (at least as far as my own experience goes) is that an anime with a weird, but very specific concept is usually very good and shows the passion of the people who worked on it (e.g. : A place further than the universe, Food Wars, Assassination Classroom, Prison School, etc.)
Thank you making this video, I love this intro so much. After I watched the first episode, I made an early call saying Shirase was gonna be best girl, after this recent episode's ending, I'm even more of a believer now. This show is so damn good.
I am not sure hinata is in top 4. There are some really good side characters that can be best girls. Edit : no way I can decide man. Stop making me. I don't want to.
I never noticed some amazing and impressive choices that you showed me. For starters, I never noticed Mari's tanned face. Never looked close enough, and just figured it was shadow at first glance. Also some of the smaller details, such as the shadows in the strip mall. I enjoyed the OP before, and now seeing things I've missed, I just enjoy it even more. Looking forward to you next OP video.
He used the TV version of the show's OP theme, its 8-bit version (dunno if it's official or just fanmade because I never heard it while watching the anime so far), and I guess an extended version of the show's ED theme (because the OP and ED singles are supposed to go on sale in Japan the 21st of this month). By the way, the OP theme sucks comparatively to the ED one imo !
You just HAD to put in the trails theme in the beginning didn't you. Now my heart can't get out of a trails high and I already have done a marathon of the 3 sky games 2 weeks ago!!!! I HAVE SCHOOL MAN!!!
Editing recommendation: I'd encourage not using 8-bit covers for your analysis of the OP because it clashes your ability to focus on your talking. It's too high and blunt sounding to flow well with your video.
Actually you could use them, but a good choice when using 8-bit backing music is to put a low pass filter on it; cutting some of the higher frequencies out that clash with the speaking tones.
Great analysis, man. Though I wouldn't call it just a moe show, it's a proper adventure. The opening perfectly encapsulates how amazing the show is. Definitely a must watch.
Oh shit, with last episode last ten second, the theory of any of the girls going to antartica in the end could become canon D: Or worse, someone dying or getting lost in Antartica... im really fearing some dark plotwist, all beacuse that shirases mothers death clip in 6th episode. It was pretty obvious that something happen to her in an expedition, but actually showing the horror face of her mates in the storm... its too much
That doesnt explain anything, what was the above comment even saying in that sentence, it makes no sense. I think he means that none of them go to antarctica, but the way he said it is grammatically nonsense.
Jacob Petersen sorry, im not english What i was trying to say is that there a little theory in internet that says that maybe all of this is for nothing and the series will end without none of the girls goign to antartica. Well, more than a theory is an idea
Jacob Petersen Its more like this is a story about the journey, not the destination. Thats why at the end maybe the expedition will be cancelled or something.

WUG WUG WUG....Ahem.... Wake Up Girls tend to do a lot of these cutsey moe anime OP's these days, sometimes they partner with other more well known artists
Really?
you have bad taste for real!
Yeah the OP is amazing and all its details but the song by itself is just... idk
Honestly I half expected this to be another "Popuko smashes the screen" gag.
Cecil Palmer Wait until the Hoshiiro Girldrop OP analysis.
Joseph Cotta I would pay money for that
This show and the OP are amazing.
Hinata is best gurl. Period.
Hinata pest penguin.
Absolutely correct.
Ah! A man with quality taste!
Shirase is best girl fuck you fight me
Valid opinion. Hinata's just my type is all. So is Mari, but Hinata is TOO adorable.
The promise a _Penguin_ in the beginning of the OP and they delivered on it later, I love it.🐧
Being newer to this channel I had no clue you did this video until today, it just makes me glad as so far this year this has been my favorite anime.
Seal!!! Not a manatee! No manatees in the south pole
Being from FL.... I confirm this statement... not a manatee. lol
Indeed. And no manatees ever spend their time sunning themselves on land... 😂
Oh good, someone else noticed that!
Srsly, Geoff? MANATEE?
New note to self: Geoff does not live near enough to an ocean to recognize a seal.
youre right! Manatees live in Missouri.
Aurora borealis? That would be aurora australis...
In Antarctica.
Can I see it?
Hmmmm... no
Leif the Revanite Aurora Borealis! At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?
@@Kao108 I don't get the reference.... :(
"The Antarctica."
not just "An Antarctica", "The Antarctica"
This show in INCREDIBLY and surprisingly tear jerking at times. Go watch it if you haven't seen it!
Also Yuzuki best girl, an opinion which I haven't seen much of yet
Joe Taylor I have pledged to protect Yuzu
Joe Taylor The first time you see "Dear okaasan" I didn't really get it and just carried on watching.
The second time, I got it, and burst immediately into tears.
Yuzuki is definitely best girl
I'm loving this show and have been looking forward to it since the PV. The 4 main girls might have my favorite dynamic in any show in awhile, as for my favorite its gotta be Hinata, I just love how she can come off as genki and crazy but also clearly has a level of maturity underneath all that.
I've been rewatching this anime for a while now and still cried everytime. I've been suffering with anxiety and mental issues for more than a decade now (Dysthymia and OCD according to a doctor) and Himari's outlook at the start kinds of reflect me til now and I really envy her on her journey to somewhere.
30 seconds in and you mentioned No Game No Life twice already... so... when's season 2 coming along? ^•^
Just Some Guy without a Mustache this show >>>>>>>> NGNL
Don't remind me.The Season two is never exist in Mad House..
Seeing the comment of this channel here made me at ease that it isnt underrated as much as i think
All this incredible direction, editing and stunning artwork in this OP and the thing that still gets me is the fucking adorable cut to the girls jumping the skipping rope to the lyrics of *"jumpu-shite"*
It's not even the most amazing OP song ever, it's just the absolute expert confidence in bringing the storyboarding and editing together with the music. Incredible
I absolutely did NOT expect Ace Attorney music playing in the background.
SamHetfield Productions you're a god, I spent the whole video trying to remember what fucking music was it, since it was so familiar to me...
OK,I thought the Undertale music were playing in the background but Ace Attorney Sisters Bond came on my mind.
the song is called Turnabout Sisters from the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney game for anyone wondering
Jesus how do you pay this much attention to an OP? I just see pretty graphics and cool animation and nice music
I didn't finish this anime until this year, about a month ago. I cried during the second to last episode... Gosh such a moving and cute show.
Holy hell I haven't heard of Aki Sora in a hot minute.
emphasis on hot
Hinata is best girl!
And my favourite opening is Nanatsu no Tazai's.
Yeah, I really like that
The best I can tell, the poses at 8:05 don't really mean anything.
How can you not enjoy this wholesome journey? Such a fun ride watching this show.
Part of me really hopes it turns dark, part of me really wants it to keep being a show that makes me smile weekly.
UFO foreshadowing? hmmm. shirase father gone missing in space, new anime called A Place further than Antarctica /s
You brought attention to amazing details they did that I never noticed. Some of them made me laugh too. Thanks!
This anime is awesome such beautiful moe just because anime is low-budget doesn't mean it can't make a good impression or even stand out.
This isnt a low budget anime.
StompGojiStomp already know that I was just saying money isn't everything when making an enemy base that's what I was trying to say🙄.
Cool Cool. Fully understand.
Sleeping Forest Poorly animated ≠ low budget
check the atrocious Maerchen Maedchen OP, that anime has very low production quality
You are a bad, BAD man. I just finished watching this show in 2 sittings because you recommended it so highly, AND NOW I CAN'T STOP CRYING.
Hinata is definitely best girl.
Also 12:58 notice how far the sun has moved alone the horizon while it is sinking, very nice animation for an actual phenomenon in the Antarctica during summer
Making a seagull jump and connect it to characters.... Isn't that what haikyuu does?
This comment deserves to be in a museum.
That was crow
Esesem ssm yeah but it's the same principle
reality smasher yeah, but it's not a new idea though. The more seamlessly you use that old idea to create a new one, the better it is.
Esesem ssm lol it was a joke. The show that did it the most and best is haikyuu hence I decided haikyuu reference.
It's a seal not a manatee, and helicopter not a plane.
Ps. Absolutely love this show, and am so glad you covered this, and so well too.
A place further than the universe but characters almost as close as reality
It is just very realistic!
favourite ops of the season besides this one which is my favourite favourite:
Kokkoku-"Flashback"-MIYAVI vs KenKen (still on the fence about the actual show but goddamnit this OP is great)
YuruCamp: "Shiny Days"-ASAKA (major jackson 5 vibes)
Pop Team Epic: "Pop Team Epic" Sumire Uesaka AND the Hoshiiro Girldrop fakeout op "Twinkling Star" performed by Sumire Uesaka, Yui Ogura, and Inori Minase
After the Rain: "Nostalgic Rain"-CHiCO with Honeyworks (fantastic ED as well "ref:rain" by Aimer)
And of course the remix of Devil no Uta will continue to be stuck in my head forever and ever until the end of time.
I'm probably forgetting some but that's all I can think of at the moment.
But what if they aren't watching the lights in the sky, and actually the house is on fire.
Just FYI, they are posing with a seal (not a manatee) and the southern lights you would see in Antarctica are called the Aurora Australis (not Borealis) because they are in the southern hemisphere.
I cried too much in this anime, especially at Hinata’s backstory.
"PISS OFF!"
Absolutely amazing video on probably my favorite anime in quite some time, and all I can comment on is how I loved the use of the Woodland Kingdom's music from Super Mario Odyssey at the end of the video.
That is a goggle tan you plebeian and only the coolest skiers and boarders have them bruh.
At the shot in 13:40, it looks like each girl represents a season of the year.
Blue for winter
Green for Spring
Yellow for Summer
Red for Fall
this video made me watch the show, and it is so good!
Ah yes, Aki-sora is a CLASSIC hen- I mean anime.
I never picked up on the digging latrines part, nor the chalk drawing at the end being what they were doodling at the very start.
It's absolutely genius though.
"A Manatee"
A tendance I have noticed (at least as far as my own experience goes) is that an anime with a weird, but very specific concept is usually very good and shows the passion of the people who worked on it (e.g. : A place further than the universe, Food Wars, Assassination Classroom, Prison School, etc.)
Manatee? It is a seal, dude.
Great and indebt analyses of an unskippable OP. You just got another subscriber.
WOAH WOAH WOAH.... look up manatees dude. that is not a manatee its a seal.
Thank you making this video, I love this intro so much. After I watched the first episode, I made an early call saying Shirase was gonna be best girl, after this recent episode's ending, I'm even more of a believer now. This show is so damn good.
¡Finally!
[Edit]: Hinata. It's Hinata. There is no discussion.
I love how this guy analysing the OP with almost longer time than an episode itself
"posing with a manatee" PFFFT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA THAT'S NOT A MANATEE NUMBNUTS THAT'S A SEAL LOL
What I like about the sunglasses bit is that they show Mari buying them in the show. I thought that was a really nice touch.
I am not sure hinata is in top 4. There are some really good side characters that can be best girls.
Edit : no way I can decide man. Stop making me. I don't want to.
Just have an orgy. That's what I'll do.
@@thunderflare59 I'll say it again, they aren't legal!
HNNNGGGGGG THESE GIRLS ARE MAKING ME *LONG LOUD GRUNTING*. I swear I just can't with this anime, it's so damn good and adorable.
4:11 7:58 11:08
👌
Woo! I bet that you would cover this OP its just so amazing without being full of spoilerific symbolism. Best show of season including ongoing series.
lol Hinata is in the top four
I never noticed some amazing and impressive choices that you showed me. For starters, I never noticed Mari's tanned face. Never looked close enough, and just figured it was shadow at first glance. Also some of the smaller details, such as the shadows in the strip mall. I enjoyed the OP before, and now seeing things I've missed, I just enjoy it even more. Looking forward to you next OP video.
Please list the music used in your video somewhere on the Internet.
i can't help with all the music, but the last one is steam gardens from Super Mario Odyssey
ruclips.net/video/bFecEIv5TEw/видео.html
He used the TV version of the show's OP theme, its 8-bit version (dunno if it's official or just fanmade because I never heard it while watching the anime so far), and I guess an extended version of the show's ED theme (because the OP and ED singles are supposed to go on sale in Japan the 21st of this month).
By the way, the OP theme sucks comparatively to the ED one imo !
Know where the tune at 7:30 is from?
Naygen Oh. No, sorry. I didn't recognize it.
Naygen It's bgm from Ace Attorney
What's an OP?
OverdosedDrop *Thinking Emoji*
HOW DARE YOU GIVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM
Yes! I was waiting for your video on Sora Yori!
>Manatee
>MANATEE
>MANATAEE!!!
But yeah, show is pretty great, dont' call seals manatees, please.
Great analysis, man. Though I wouldn't call it just a moe show, it's a proper adventure. The opening perfectly encapsulates how amazing the show is. Definitely a must watch.
Oh shit, with last episode last ten second, the theory of any of the girls going to antartica in the end could become canon D:
Or worse, someone dying or getting lost in Antartica... im really fearing some dark plotwist, all beacuse that shirases mothers death clip in 6th episode. It was pretty obvious that something happen to her in an expedition, but actually showing the horror face of her mates in the storm... its too much
"the theory of any of the girls going to antartica in the end"
What?
+Jacob Petersen There’s a huge storm above the ocean. Well, the expedition will be delayed, the ship didn’t even leave the harbor yet.
That doesnt explain anything, what was the above comment even saying in that sentence, it makes no sense. I think he means that none of them go to antarctica, but the way he said it is grammatically nonsense.
Jacob Petersen sorry, im not english
What i was trying to say is that there a little theory in internet that says that maybe all of this is for nothing and the series will end without none of the girls goign to antartica.
Well, more than a theory is an idea
Jacob Petersen Its more like this is a story about the journey, not the destination. Thats why at the end maybe the expedition will be cancelled or something.
literally my favorite anime of this year. so glad it could get a spot on this series! it sucks how overshadowed it is by all the other major animes tho
