  • I've had a poster for a particular show hanging behind me since the summer. It's a wonderfully moving (heh) series, so much that I felt, even if it's already been talked about to death by others and recommended to high heaven, I needed to join in.

This show is also objectively a textbook of how to make a good amine series. Each episode is carefully structured and paced, each tells a story and collectively they contribute to the narrative of the entire show. Each episode by each episode we form an attachment to the characters, and the ending wraps up the storey in a satisfying fashion. No many shows these days are able to do that

I’m one of those people that just doesn’t like “cute girls doing cute things” type shows
But this Corona Quarantine gave me the time and just gave it a chance on GR’s recommendation... and wow this anime is deeply moving and thoughtful, what an amazing piece of art this thing is... if someone read this please watch it... it has some really good life lessons and great written characters, every high schooler should watch this

Small fandom but loud. I cannot tell you how much this fucking series made me so inspired to be something more than what i was. TO NOT HOLD BACK ON ANYTHING. These girls were the fucking foundation of everything I always wanted to be. Beautiful art, cute girls, REAL CHARACTERS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL WITHOUT IT BEING SO FORCED. It was such a great experience for me. This whole feeling of wasting away your youth, theres no other feeling I could possibly legit cry from than this alone. I felt so damn happy by the ending of it. I rlly would put this as anime for anime of the year tbh.

@@Kockafalva The character development and dialogue are excellent in Bunny Girl. The show really makes the main characters feel like real people and the wit and humorous moments are on point. It is definitely more of a thinker's show with more complex motivations so it can leave you emotionally and mentally drained at times (much like Violet Evergarden in that respect), but I would not let the fact that it isn't a simple point A to destination B series deter anyone from giving it a chance.

i have some ideas for OVA:
    1. Gin and her team's daily life in Antarctica after the girls left - some of the science experiments and studies that they conduct
    2. Megumi's journey in Arctic - how she came on terms with Mari becoming independent from her
    3. Yuzuki, Hinata, Shirase and Mari's finished full length documentary
    4. Yuzuki, Hinata, Shirase and Mari's stay in Freemantle, Australia - kind of a tourism-bait episode, highlighting the must-see places and must-eat food, just like the Singapore episode
    .
    .
    hope this reaches MadHouse

    • @artytoons
      @artytoons 2 года назад

Add what happened after the 4 girls returned home, and perhaps the 4 and Megumi (who owes Shirase an apology for almost ruining the Antarctica plans) going on another trip together and seeing how their relationships are holding up...perhaps accompanying Yuzuki during an on-location movie filming and finding adventure.

They perfectly recreated the areas they explored: the docks, the market, even the alley between two buildings where they pile up the foodstuffs (I literally go for a drink at the pub that would be 180 degrees to the camera perspective in that shot). The audio even matches.

Same for me. For about 9-10 years, my top 1-2 were always Toradora and Clannad Afterstory. I felt a few others came close, like Anohana for example. After my first watch of this series, I initially placed it in my top 5. Recently, however, I had been thinking about this series more and more. After rewatching it again, I begin to pick up on a whole bunch of things I had missed previously, and then I realize how amazingly well-crafted the series was, and I also realized that many of the emotional scenes hit me a lot harder than Toradora and Clannad Afterstory did. It hits at such a raw human level that majority of people could relate to. It is now my favourite of all time.

What a heartwarming review!! With me, personally, the issue that I had with this series is that I was forced to binge the entire thing in one day. I didn't enjoy it but had no choice. I was at college and every single day I was working on homework an insane amount of hours. Saturday was the only day that I had off. I had no choice but to watch the entire thing in one day, because Sunday meant doing 13 hours of Russian history homework. And that also meant that I had no one to share it with. I do wish that I had had someone to share it with or that I could have taken my time with it. Never the less I really, really enjoyed the series, and the last episode made me cry. I really loved how well defined the individual characters were.

I was one of those that typically avoided the "cute girls do cute things" type of anime. I watched a couple before and found them boring.
But this show caught my attention with the "Antarctica" theme, and wondered what made these characters want to venture out.
Watching the first few episodes, I was hooked. I actually related to the mc, I felt that desire to travel in high school. I used to think of the possible interactions and friends I'd have if I traveled. The show really played at my feels haha.
Then the interactions between the characters and the characters themselves were good as well. (meh on Shirasa, don't like her don't hate her. Do admire her for the hard work she put in and problems she went through). And the group dynamic didn't seem fake throughout.
The challenges they faced to get on the trip and with themselves felt real as well. And every episode lit up the "adventurer" side within me that actually, for a very slight moment, made me regret going to college instead of taking a gap year to travel.
Bravo to the show, unexpected gem, would highly recommend.

It acts as an extension to the narrative in their time in Antarctica that doesnt take place within the core show itself. Like the opening shows why Kimari has a major tan in episode 11, what they do for bathrooms, what things they recorded for the documentary.

I may be a relative newbie to anime ,with barely a double digit count of shows under my belt, but this show is already at the top end of the list of favourites.

This wasn't just a show for me, this was an experience, To be honest I'm quite sad that my friends who I recommended this show does not give it a shot. But maybe they just need a little bit of push. I watched it in 2018 and it still is my favorite show ever.

I’d like an OVA where they bring along Megumi. She still has a plausible character arc to complete. Start her off as an an outsider to the group and end with her fully friends with everyone.

    • @artytoons
      @artytoons 2 года назад

It would be interesting to see if Megumi apologizes to Shirase for almost sabotaging the Antarctica plans and if Shirase forgives her. There is also the open thread of Hinata and her former track team teammates and what happened to their relationships after Shirase spoke her mind.

I know it is impossible to do in a review, but Arkada barely scratched the surface of the show.
And how well it keeps internal consistency is so above and beyond what I've expected. There's a scene near the end of the show that even if you had noticed the small things that led up to it, you will still be blind sided by.
I said it in February and am still saying it now, this is my AOTY with no doubt. It is a beautiful series from beginning to end. Each individual arc is relatable or at least you can empathize with. It is one of a few anime I will own.

Even though this year we had A LOT of good shows in every season like Yuru Camp, Violet Evergarden, Revue Starlight, Hinamatsuri, Bunny Girl Senpai and many others, I feel that none of them can even approach to the beauty of Sora Yori and the feelings it made me felt back then, heck, even today I can't listen the ED without starting to tear up. The moment it ended I said that it was gonna be really hard to surpass it and I made no mistake, anime of the year without a doubt.

It might say more about me than the show, but I feel like processing grief and moving on is as big a focus of the story as friendship. Lots of time is spent on both Shirase and Gin processing Takako's death, as well as trying to figure out where their troubled relationship stands.

Thanks for the Great Vid Arkada. This anime is one of the best anime I've watched in recent years & even after a few months I am still in love with it. I went into it expecting only cute girls doing cute things but what I got from it was so much more than that & I hope more people would give this show a chance even if they're not a fan of this type of shows or this particular genre because to me at least this show is something special.

Enjoyed the series much. Would love to see a sequel or follow up movie on what happened after they returned home, what the Antarctica exploration crew are doing, and perhaps the 4 girls plus Megumi, the girl left behind, all taking another holiday trip to another destination together to see how their relationships are holding up.

I never watched anime like this, I never thought it would be for me, I didn't hate them, but I didn't think they would be entertaining. I saw a different video on it, and it was enough for me to give it a shot. Boy was I wrong! I absolutely fell in love with this show! The characters and the journey they go on is incredible and it's now one of my favorite anime ever. If you're on the fence about this, do it! I'm definitely watching this again soon.

Mai not wearing the Bunny Girl outfit enough is my only problem with that show.
