This has been a year but 13 and 15 is still the best episode. Also since it has been a year, ep 24 actually feels better now, sure VIRM lives. But we have to remember, they are eternal. They cant die, yet.
This, the end of the first half of Darling in the Franxx was glorious. Episodes 13, 14 and 15 were such a rollercoaster of strong emotions to me, very few times I've found myself so damn invested in the development of the relationship between two characters as I was at that point. In their own way, both the end of the first and the second half of Darling in the Franxx are impossible to forget.
Those were the eps that I didn’t really care about tbh but later in the series is were it really hits the feels my fave ep was the last one it was beautiful though I do wish they had lived
Exactly what I feel for Evangelion and Gurren Lagann. I just hope Promare isn't like that, I know it's a movie but they'll probably use its success to launch an anime sequel like Dragon Ball: Battle of the Gods did.
It is like people never watched a Trigger (I know about A1) show. Yes, it was rushed and maybe little out of budget, but the ending itself, last 15 or 10 minutes or so, were worth all of it for me. The show just changed its perspective and focus at the end, and most of the watchers decided to not follow it, creating a massive ball of something stinky in the internet. Maybe ongoing thing was part of the problem, as I watched it completed, in 4 days, and did not felt this "dip" that much.
Based Goy SoSS Same bruh. Anime’s usually don’t make me cry because the characters don’t really... connect to me. But this one... this one hit different... So much shit they learned and went through, it was all somewhat relatable. This anime connected possibly all of us. Ur not alone :’)))
Same!! I feel so empty because it took time from my everyday life to finish, but when I did, there was nothing to do anymore. I started rewatching it so I could fill that void but when I think of what to do when I finish it again, I feel a little empty again, so I’m on an endless loop of rewatching so the void stays filled. I could start a different anime to fill the void but it’s not the same as darling in the franxx, so I will forever be on a loop watching an anime that I love which now that I think about it, isn’t as bad as it seems. 😊
@HellFury Mate , I am from Slovakia and I loved this anime. Definitly one of the best i have seen. Just ending was too cruel. I have seen a lot of people asking for 2 season. For me would be enough if they remake ending . To see Hiro's and o2's kid playing around others .... heaven for my soul :D
@HellFury That is the supidest this iv'ce ever heard. The romance in this aime is factually the worst piece of garbage there is in the medium and an insult to the viewers
The best way I can think of to describe Darling In The Franxx is this: The anime is like an essay. A very well-written, detailed essay that keeps you interested and engaged in for most of the way. But then, either there was a word limit or time constraint, the writer could not afford to write as detailed and well structured as before. There may have been a good setup with all the interesting plot points and ideas already planned out. But due to pressure, they just get thrown into the passages without enough thought. Which led to a less than impressive conclusion. And I am pretty sure we have all been there at some point when we were doing our exams. 😁
This anime honestly had potential especially for how well they did its worldbuilding that it could've compensated for some episodes in the first few parts of the arc, but then again, A1 and Trigger failed to do so. They didn't plan ahead. It is as if they were a step behind. As a result, they just destroyed an anime that could've been up there among the pretty decent debut anime of 2018 and could even make things better in the next few seasons, but no. It made me feel sad for this anime. It is as if they're making a 6 month old try to forcefully walk immediately without thinking about developing the baby's other important aspects
@@terence2880 I totally understand that. I was prepared to have this as a possible Top 10 of the year. It was honestly such a shame really. I really don't know if they forgot that they only had 24 episodes to cover everything or if they were just planning the story as they went along. 😁
Yeah, after about episode 16 the show started to feel rushed and predictable. Which is a shame as it had so much potential. I don’t blame the directors for this though, they just didn’t have enough episodes to fully develop the characters and story.
yeah, the constant death flags and the symbolism for abusive relationships... hit too close to home... months after watching, i still feel broken whenever i try to rewatch
Really really loved this review cuz it acknowledges that a show's """worth""" isnt black or white like. When people dropped this show and wrote it off as awful when the ending dropped it just Broke my heart. I'll be the first to say that the ending arc really did derail the narrative the show had maintained thus far, but i just so, SO DEARLY loved the journey this show took me on. A show can be both good and bad, and even if it's "bad" youre still allowed to love it. I sure love this show. Anyway ZERO TWO BEST GIRL
Exactly. it really touched me and moved me to the point of tears but I can't in all honesty recommend it to most people or confidently claim it to be "good" in a critical sense.
Agreed. This show took my on a journey that I only wish could have kept going... it's one of those journeys where I look over it after it's over and just appreciate the experience. Such a beautiful piece of work for sure!
@@jasonzhang4854 I'd Say Zero Two and Hiro's love for each other was far greater tho, but just barely. Kinda pissed that Mai and Sakuta never even kissed in the anime.
No it's fucking trash, it was bad from episode 1. If you like this garbage it just means your standards are so low that you probably live in a sewer and wipe your ass with sandpaper.
@@shinpuru8578 I'm hoping for a new season because there can still be a continuation especially that Nana and Hachi are immortal and still maybe alive. They can help Zero two and Hiro remember everything if that's possible.
Dispite the narrative misstep, I still consider it my favorite of all time. I know this is a very unpopular opinion... but they did world building and charter development in a way that I really enjoyed. The art was so beautiful, as well as their relationships, and the music. It just hit all the right spots for me personally.
Sorry for such a late comment from 2 years in the future but the ending wasn’t that bad if you think it was kind of like how everyone was in disbelief when they saw the aliens and which represents how things aren’t always gonna go as planned and brainwashing and all that or how giro showed that he would go all the way into space for who he loves you get the point it’s like... ima just stop talking sorry but yeah I agree with the art and music and actually everything
@@exndeath6532 never too late to talk DTFXX. I accept the ending and see it's narrative value and how it goes with the themes but it was a tad sudden, maybe a few extra episodes
@@MattDeezly A few more episodes wouldn’t hurt but I like the fact that when the show ended, I felt a hole in my body and it made me feel sad. But a beautiful sadness, sadness that makes me feel alive and that makes me happy it’s weird 😂
I just watched it for the first time and now I finished it and I don't know how to feel... This is the first anime I watched, but I think this is a good start haha! Do you have recommendations what should I watch next?
either i just don't understand how people hate this anime so much or that they didn't understand it all. before i watched this anime, i've heard bad things about its ending and how disappointing it was. but upon finishing the show i thought it was a fun ride through the very end. i thought the ending was a great conclusion to the story. darling in the franxx is gonna go down in my top 10 anime drama list.
I loved Darling in the Franxx for what it was. The characters were interesting and that OP is OP. Yeah, the episodes leading up to the ending were so damn WTF?? But, I still loved it. I think this also plays to my age i'm 30. I went through all that teenage angst and drama so seeing it in this perspective was different and intriguing. I thinking maybe someone younger will find it boring or stupid, but the way they went about things I thought was different. Let me tell y'all that wedding episode was the cutest shit i've seen. Like, it was adorable till it became sad. Episode 15 is still best episode.
I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm "only" 23 years old, but it is just as you describe it. I have seen it all around me for so many years now, experiencing it as well, and to watch this anime feels like I am watching scenes of my own past play on screen right before me. I loved it for that. For the good memorys it brought up, as well as the bad. The wedding was brilliant. And episode 15 is most definitely best episode!
@THE GAME What exactly is your goal here kiddo? Trying to convince me that something I obviously enjoyed is trash? Not gonna work. So why bother? Just to spit some hate?
@THE GAME LOL. You don't know shit about me, but you act so much better is honestly funny and sad how pathetic you are. OMFG I LIKE A SHOW WITH PROBLEMS OH HOW CAN I GO ON! Stfu you are no better than me don't even say you don't watch trash. At least I admit the flaws of my choices, but I also watch other anime. But, I bet you just wanna talk shit cause you like talking shit which is adorably sad now.
I'm late to the show for this series, as I just finished it about 30 minutes ago. But I must say I absolutely loved it. Within the first few episodes I picked up on the underlying theme of the complex, beautiful mess that we call relationships. And with that in my mind as I watched it, the evolution of the characters just took me for such an emotional ride. I am far from an emotional person, for a long time I've been a logical person. But this show made me tear up a few times. I definitely agree that the build up to the finale was stale and not interesting, but the last episode was so beautiful. This anime will join some of my favorites among Your Lie in April and The Seven Deadly Sins (don't judge).
That smug From discord I’m even later, Ive always known about this anime but haven’t had the interest of time to watch it until last night, and it hooked me. I finished it tonight and I have to say that I cried a lot, and the ending does leave me with a certain amount of questions, but I do agree that this was a good ending to this ride of an anime . :D
I guess I’m very late. I agree episodes 1-15 were beautiful especially 13 and 15. We got to see how Zero Two was starting to go insane to see her darling once more but she’s been USING her darling the whole time. Episode 15 made me happy they finally United again. The episodes after we’re a bit of a mess but the last episode was rushed the most, but it was still good. They dance in space finally alone together exploring everywhere, their forever long dream
The last episode was the most painful , seeing them get older and older without hiro and zero two and still remembering them, then also ichigo not getting what she wanted in the end, with the beautiful episode between ichigo and hiro in the beach and then showing many years have passed and me thinking about them all being dead and have not been reunited untill the end , I'm literally crying while writing this comment, I'm a grown ass 20 year old and crying like a baby, it's hurting so much.
Bruh the ending made me cry so much but ending few episodes when they were in space was so silly. Like wtf it’s just so weird, why does a robot have skin and makeup? And the ending is actually so annoying like why did they have to do that to the the best couple in 2018.
I thought it was weird at first, but when I looked more at it, it really looks like a wedding dress. And it makes sens with the them of love and humanity. You know, love makes you stronger and stuff. I really enjoyed the anime, it was a super amazing ride lol. I understand, the ending could be better, but still the feels that it gave me is enough :)

@@Mariam-uy4hn @Ethan I agree the Alien arc was messy... Im sure many people didn't even notice how giant Sterilizia Zero2 was actually wearing a wedding dress, after Hiro's vow. It actually hit me when Zero2 said something on the lines of "honeymoon" during their travel.
I really felt a strong connection between the anime and myself. It was humans, relationship, teenagers and all of that. It almost felt like i was apart of squad 13. I just understood the anime much better than other animes where they have superpowers and stuff like that. Enviroment was looking good, relationship between hiro and 02 was beautiful, i liked everyone from squad 13 and to see such an ending that they had just left me sad and empty. Seeing hiro and 02 pretty much die, and squad 13 never seeing them again just didnt sit right, felt like they took something from me and i can't get it back. Well maybe if we get a season 2 or a remake of the ending, which is highly unlikely, but i hope they give us something. I guess what im trying to say is, it felt painful following zero two and 02 all the way only to see them die. As squad 13 said, they were the ones who were the most humans, they taught everyone else how to live. But they never got to live that life themselves. I pretty much just wanted to see everyone reunited, happy and just live life. I'm pretty sure everyone was hoping to see 02 and hiro together happy in the end, and squad 13 ofc. Sorry i just wanted to get this out there.
Yeah I think the same except for one small thing they kinda got a nice and peaceful ending but I also like how in this anime you feel empty and sad. This anime shows us that nothing can always end happily and but it was actually a nice death for them cause now they can rejoin as reincarnations and they can love in a world with no war
I completely agree. I honestly dont care if its super cliche or a mess, the way this anime impacted me was very different from anything else. I honestly never thought an anime could make me feel this empty and sad. As much as i want a second, third and even more seasons, i know it is not possible, I would be happy enough with maybe half of another season, just to wrap it up and give me a good happy ending so i dont feel empty again.
@@georgewashington9087 Yeah it was a mess with the sudden appearance of VIRM and the space wars, but i chose to ignore that and just follow Zero Two's and Hiro's story... Im sure the haters didn't even notice how the converted giant Sterilizia Zero2 was actually wearing a wedding dress, after Hiro's vow, they only chose to see a titanic mecha girl in space and conclude that the ending was shitty.
Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Neon Genesis Evangelion (although it shouldn't be seen as a pure mecha anime), any from the Gundam franchise, and many more? I do believe you need to explore alot more mecha anime before you declare Darling in the FranXX a top 5 of all time anime for you. Yes, it caught me with really good worldbuilding at the start, but thats it. It looked like it borrowed NGE and Gurren Lagann's concepts but failed to create a good identity for itself while destroying itself even more due to bad writing other than some episodes of the first arc (I kinda like some), and just overdosed it with so many plot holes and unrealistic reactions after that arc. I even thought that a proper rebellion arc would build up in episode 16, but its like Hiro never gave a damn after realizing how much pain they gave Zero Two, and just shoved it all with a space battle no one but studio Trigger wanted. It had so much potential to atleast bring itself up after a bumpy first arc, but they just took it all away. A1 pictures and Trigger had a chance to either call a short hiatus and then split the season into two parts or extend season 1 into 2 seasons so that they could reevaluate and gather themselves up just like what the writers and other members of Attack on Titan did (but oh god they extended it so much I was extremely frustrated with season 2 and its cliffhangers and fillers but atleast they didn't rush so much) but no. Its like they were just assigned to just finish the anime and nothing else. They didn't carefully plan. I feel extremely sad on how they handled this show that could've atleast had a proper run in its first season so that they could improve this anime in the future, but then it feels like the chances of getting season 2 is nearly impossible, and the only possible savior of this story is to fix it in the manga versions which is actually doing well based on the number of copies sold compared to blue-ray sales of the anime so far
I'm not going to fault you for liking it but it was not for me. The brilliant world building, exploration of the dehumanizing nature of convenience and technology, and decent character drama kept me going through some of the pacing issues and plot holes. The ending really dumped the themes that I liked in the bin which retroactively pulls down the previous acts for me. I prefer Gurren Lagann and SSSS.Gridman for my Trigger mech fix.
Does that really matter if 02's character completely derailed from a controlling sex fiend into a demure flower-wife as the show turned into weird heteronormative propaganda?
Every time I hear the music I get triggered with that tightness in my chest and a strange longing. I wish I could watch this for the first time and experience those first feelings again.
I would say that in the ending, the kids we saw were ZeroHiro's kids and that they somehow survived and came back to Earth, but that is just too much to hope for isn't it? It still is a possibility if that makes you feel better.
Because professionals with a concrete vision worked on those, that's why SAO's intro/outro _music_ never gets much flak, even as fun as it is to shit on it for a lot of the anime community. I do love Kiss of Death, ngl, I like most intro songs for standard "bad anime" shows because of that.
This isn't methodical. This is more about emotions and feelings. And it's the first time that i disagree with glass reflection. MB put too much force while presssing what he want to say, but for ONE time he is way too methodical than GR. Because one is right and the other wrong? No no. It's not about having the right idea, more like how do you express it. That's why, generally, GR have the best quick reviews
I am relatively new to anime, like 2 to 3 years of watching the medium, and this anime is special to me because it was the first series I watched every week as a new episode was released.
I personally don't like to watch airing anime weekly. I binge watch them, when they are fully released. That way you don't lose the tension and also stay emotionally engaged throughout it. The only exceptionhere is OnePiece for obvious reasons.

Dear god, this shit... I never watch anime, but I saw my brother watching this years back and something clicked.. I watched this 9 hours straight and the ending.. I havent cried in almost 10 years, but this broke me.
I mean, we technically do have a Happy ending for Zero Two and Hiro. They reincarnate and get to meet all over again and rekindle their love in a world where there is no war to be fought, they don't have these massive issues of their old world they can just be in love.
I might go back to something similar eventually, and the glitch is sticking around for the FR videos and such. But I wanted to experiment. We'll see how it goes in future :)
Moreover, of I can be honest, I dont take a liking to the Glass Reflection logo either. It is just kinda generic is all. But whatever. It's your channel. Just thought I'd give my opinion
The ending was weak, but overall a pretty good series. And episode 13 is still one of the best anime episodes of the year, along with the last few episodes of Steins;Gate 0.
@@Pipehiguita Of course, because opinions aren't a thing. I'm so glad you told me that I shouldn't enjoy it, I was so blind! ... Had to admit it went downhill from ep 16 but ZeroTwo-chan kept me going. Point is I don't care how it ended or how its a mess cos this anime gave us ZERO TWO. Period.

Best explanation hands down. Though, I have a feeling Kiznaiver had the same problem as Darling: it started strong with a good theme and palette of characters but mid way turned 180 and went into a spiralling hole of confusion. Like Kiznaiver started as a psychological mystery drama but had a cheesy romance soap opera like twist that went nowhere.
@@nutella7162 Agreed, but to be fair, I think Kiznaiver was better paced up til that point. At the very least, it didn't feel like Kiznaiver wasted as much time, or made any of its set ups pointless as a result of later events.
No.. no it's pretty plainly a romantic drama disguised as a mech fighting anime that sideswipes you with the strongest feelbomb ever recorded on episode 13 and makes you question how you got where you are. It sold itself as average with waifu bait 02 all over it and only after you invest some time into the series do you understand the emotional weight behind her character and the series. There's no mishmash of themes, it's at most 3 and they intermingle perfectly.
@@XxNightmare128xX dude Franxx wasn't the first mecha that focus in the romance. The first one that did was Macross which is 100 times better than Franxx. Franxx has a message but completely fails what is trying to say.
While there's a lot, the main one is enough to summarize the show: Growing up and learning things and making choices your parents don't want you to learn or do. In short, learning how to become an independent adult.
Adam Heyman THIS IS WHAT IM SAYING, THE WHOLE GODDAMN ANIME YOU TALK ABOUT THE OVERBEARING GOVERNMENT THINGY AND THAT WAS EVEN HINTED TO IN THE ENDING, THEN YOU HIT US WITH THAT ALIEN SHIT? WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DO YOU HAVE SO FEW BRAIN CELLS THEYRE ALL SPENT ON JUST EXISTING? HOLY FUCK
I do believe the anime had potential. I loved it a lot and still do. I just feel the studios were put into pressure which led to a less thought out ending. Although most people say the last few episodes weren’t good, I still enjoyed watching them. I enjoyed it because of the character development and there unique personalities. The story line was also very good. I just wish they had left it on better terms, therefore there could have been a possible second season. All I’m really saying is that this anime was good because of the way it made me feel while watching it. It was beautiful In a way.
Same I've wished that they left it so a second season was possible. I'm still waiting for some news on if it is even happening. I still love the anime.
Jose Hernandez I didn't even know about this anime until now today lol it was very very beautiful I can't believe I missed this anime and I realized it in 2020 I just finished it yesterday
The reception to Zero Two was so infuriating to me, mainly because I think I came into the story from the wrong angle. I was mainly watching the show from the perspective of a post apocalyptic narrative with the relationship drama as a sideline, not as my main viewing focus. As such watching Ichigo loose her shit at Zero Two for being a bigger threat to the team's safety felt completely justified. From the perspective of the squad leader, completely disregarding the ulterior motives Ichigo had regarding Hiro, Zero Two was such a wildcard on the team to the point where it put everyone else in extreme danger. As such the admiration from the community directed at her character just didn't jive with me that well, which ultimately negatively impacted my enjoyment of the show considering it also seemed to be the priority of the direction of the series to front-line the Hiro/02 relationship. And then the mid-series twist happened and everything went to absolute shit. The remaining parts of what I enjoyed about the show got thrown out the window with the subpar world building in the latter half and I completely lost interest. I guess thats my fault for not enjoying the show for what it was and focusing on the wrong thing but it still killed my enjoyment of what I now view as a mostly mediocre show. I"m sorry fam, the ending is paramount and all.
Similar to my experience, though I think mines a bit more extreme. For the most part, I didnt enjoy any character relationships and found them mostly unentertaining. I was in it mostly for the post-apocalyptic mystery plot and as that turned out horribly, the anime for me is pretty bad. The only things I can appreciate are the music and the animation.
I had that same problem, I came for mecha and by the moment that “twist” reared it’s ugly head all went to bleep. That conclusion was a complete dumpster fire, clearly rushed and giant Zero Two...>_>...kill it with fire

Honestly wherever I go, people talk about how Darling in the Franxx messed up after ep 15 and quite honestly I HIGHLY disagree. From episode 16, this anime tackled so many problems with our generation, from depending on missions and not properly socialising, the adults (the man) being in control of what you do, think, say, eat, etc. And I loved its out of world feeling it gave us cause that's how love can be portrayed. Going to the ends of galaxies and universes for your love and fighting to the end. Let's also talk about the cast. I feel they were perfect. Everyone had their own character building moments. From Zero-two tortured past and Hiro's love for her despite her flaws and how she encourages him to strive for more. Not to mention how toxic the relationship was. Very relatable. Ichigo's love triangle was realistic, dealing with loving another yet being committed to someone else and her feeling threatened by Zero-two. This anime also tackled the LGBTQ community as well! Kokoro's issues with the 2 guys and dealing with the first pregnancy humanity has ever seen in a long time. The ones looking after the kids and how they grew to actually treat them as their own kids. I could go on and on but damn. This anime was very thought provoking, emotional and inspirational to say the least. I shed tears at the ending speeches and gave me hope to love again. This anime is up there for me with Clannad, assassination classroom and Gurren Laggan . . P. S Does anyone have any heart throbbing anime recommendations ? Would really appreciate them✌🏽
Its been 1 year, my hate for the last third has mellowed out. The ep 16-18 was good. But ep 19 threw it all away, which makes the questions they ask in those episodes irrelevant because suddenly aliens I like the final.. Final moments of ep 24, it was so much better than what ever came before it
I literally just finished the anime and I feel the same way. I see people complaining and honestly I can understand but it did so much good for me that I’d very much recommend it going on. also as far as another anime to hit you in the feels you could try something like Your lie in April, I watched it for the first time last month so I’m fairly late to the party but it’s honestly one of my favorite anime of all time so give it a go!
DIF is also one of my favorites. Character-driven stories have so much more to offer besides just eye-candy. Assuming you have not already done so, check out Violet Evergarden, and Carole & Tuesday. And for some comic relief -- Girls und Panzer and K-ON!!
If you want heart throbbing anime that's going to make you cry, I would recommend I want to eat your pancreas (don't judge the movie by it's name, the movie is really good) or Your lie in april

Its my favorite anime in existence it came to me when I was going through a tough time and just under four months after it ended I went through the death of my father. I watched it again and I can look back fondly of this being the last anime I completed with my Dad before he passed. He didn't understand my obsession and drive towards the one anime girl I consider a Goddess, Zero Two. But I can truly tell you that Zero Two has been my best companion although she is not real I felt like I understood her. She was what I found so profoundly beautiful along with her relationship with Hiro. I am very tomboyish and I find myself doting on people who have weaknesses I can sympathize with so I hope I can one day enter a relationship where I can be the Hiro to someone else's Zero Two. Maybe my comments might seem cliche to you but if you have gone through a similar experience or simply want to start a conversation please like this comment and comment below it.
Imo: Episode 1-6: kinda boring ngl 7-12: just a tad better than first 6 13-18: peak of franxx 19: exposistion dump but forgivable 20: doesn't hate it as much as other people do but still 21: didn't clear the alien shit but redeemed itself from episode 20 cause the episode itself is pretty good 22: unbelievable on how much they established many plot elements and character emotion in just one episode, truly the most well paced episode of the whole series 23: just a setup for the last episode 24: unlike many i actually think this is a pretty damn great and satisfying conclusion to the series Overall: a mixed bag with the highs being really great and the lows being pretty questionable. 7/10
PID You know usually I’d stop watching the show after episode 20, but after I sat through rwby volume 5 no exposition dump episode will ever be that bad to me
PID I hated episodes 20-23, but since episode 24 was decent, I was also satisfied with the ending, other than that gay shit where VIRM was completely destroyed and they said they would return, makes Hiro and Zero Two’s death almost wasted
+Don't Man I could accept episode 24 as the ending if it was like episode 45-50 or so.. I needed to spend so much more time with the side characters and see their relationships actually develop instead of the finale just showing us who got paired up with who. The villains made absolutely no sense. Hiro and Zero Two got virtually no time to live together where she wasn't either a psycho bitch or a giant spaceship and that makes me sooo genuinely sad. I'm OK with them dying but not so soon. The souls and reincarnation shit just absolutely came out of NOWHERE and felt like an offensively cheap tearjerker (that I'm ashamed to say worked on me). I wish I had stopped watching at the end of episode 15
My experience with this anime is something else. I remember picking it up on an evening, and watching upto ep8 in one go, and then I woke up next morning and watched it upto ep15 and was soooo fuckin happy after that. I went out and hanged out a bit with my friends, becoz squad 13 made me remember my own friends.... On returning home I wrote a paragraph in my diary about how I was feeling after watching this anime. I decided not to watch any more episodes that day, becoz I was soo fill already. The next day I watched upto ep24 in one go and I HATED IT. I went to MAL, straight up rated it a 3, and forgot all about it. A month later I was reading my diary, and I stopped to think, "wait, did I really like this anime so much at some point?". And then I gave it a re-watch. And honestly, my opinions changed. This time knowing what is going to happen in the ending, I focused more on the emotions, characters, dialogues and those stuff; and the same ending that made me laugh at a point, made me cry and send to a depressed state of mind. Now I have completely changed as a person, and tend to see things more positively. There is a beauty to this thing honestly.
I would say that in the ending, the kids we saw were ZeroHiro's kids and that they somehow survived and came back to Earth, but that is just too much to hope for isn't it? But anything can happen in anime can't it?
2 years after I still love darling in the franxx. I can never forget how it touch my heart and made me cry several times. It was beautiful no other anime can match its closeness to my heart
Honestly, I have written 5 pages worth of my feelings that I feel now towards the anime in my notebook. So, even if I start to not like this anime someday or forget the feelings I had after watching it initially(that's obviously not gonna happen but still), I can still come back and read the notes to understand why it would alwz be special to me
The beginning, was amazing, I was so attached, but at the Ending episodes, didn’t really feel he same, bunch of non sense and weird shit happened, I still was attached and wanted to see more, and I was destroyed at the end, really sad, but I felt like the ending could of been better.
Thank you for the video. I think that this is the best review I ever watched on this anime. I have watched a lot of shows in my life ; some had insane stories, unforgettable graphic designs, and some were overall 'better shows' than Darling in the FranXX. But this is by far the series I think about the most since I watched it. The 15 first episodes are according to me simply perfect. Learning emotions, learning how to discover a person, to catch feelings, to question our existence are so omnipresent in our lives that I never felt so much connected to any fictional creation before. The rythm is great, the musics are a perfect match for the mood the anime wants to put you in, there is a part of mystery in every character, every interaction, letting the viewer think a lot. I watched it when I was 16, I am now 22 and this show still hits me extremely hard, I'd say it even hits me harder than when I discovered it. I get why lots of people don't like it, but as it is said in this review, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but only to people that can build a strong connection with what occurs in the show. The last episodes are questionnable, I totally admit it and I even agree. However, I still find lots of elements that might make this ending not that off topic with the rest of the show... This was honestly the best journey I've experienced, and I am thankful that I watched it when it was released, one episode per week, making this journey even longer.
Code Porsche If you’re still interested in DitF, I’d recommend reading the manga. It follows up to the beach episode with a few changes but after that it’s going in a different direction from the anime. I don’t know if it’s been confirmed to have a different ending but I assume it is because they said they’re taking a “what if” route with the manga.
Late to this, but I'm happy to see someone else point this out. I'm biased in admitting MitsuKoko has become one of my favourite OTPs of all them. They're the reason I even started watching DiTF despite everyone saying what a mess the show is. I ain't saying Kokoro's perfect, but she's human & given the show is about angsty teens figuring themselves out; Idk how to articulate it, but I find that endearing. It's why I like Kokoro's arc, why her relationship with Mitsuru warmed my heart & I adore his character development. I could gush out an entire essay on this, but I just wanted to share how happy I am that other people recognise Kokoro's potential/worth (Idk the right word I'm looking for)
I watched ditf in july of 2018 and it avsolutely DESTROYED me, i never felt that amount of emotions in an anime. It broke me so much that i try to dodge lots of romance and "sad" anime. Its really a weird piece of art but i will never forget it. I always wanted to re watch it but i never could because i knew it was going to hurt me again. Yesterday i found backups of the phone i had on 2018 and it made me so damn nostalgic so i wanted to finaly eatch it again.
I loved this show.... I cried my eyes out at the ending!!! I dont see them continuing the series which kills my sole... by far one of my favorite anime.
I think we can all agree that we need to mentally erase episodes 22-24 from our minds and keep the ending with everyone on earth thriving again while keeping the teaser for the beginning of a new story. I will never stop defending this show, I will never forget it.
they really needa do a re of this anime and do something where since hero is turning into a klaxosaur he’s been hallucinating and since it’s the first human to start turning into klaxosaur he’s able to predict the future and because of this he realizes that the path they were taking would only lead to the extinction of humanity so because of this they decide to team up with the klaxosaur and rebuild earth by having children and creating new and improved franxx and kill off the virm that’s the only way i could see it redeeming himself
*How to cure my depression* - Meanwhile 1000 light years away from Earth - Bardock: Frieza YOU WILL PAY Frieza: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Bardock: NO WAY *Planet Vegeta blows up*
I would just like to say that throughout the middle of the series when they were working on character development, I thought it was beautiful and would be a classic. After the *twist*, I think that it will be remembered, not just because how the last six or so episodes were handled, but also for the quality of the show up to that point. Tl;dr What a waste of so much potential.
I really loved this show, I started watching it without knowing anything about it, so I wasn't influenced by others. I need to admit that the last 4-5 episodes wasn't the best and probably these have ruined the show's finale, but I loved it and accepted the conclusion as you said in your video. I agree with you when you say that this show isn't for all. It enters on my top 5 anime, the characters and their development was what I liked it most.
Seeing this retrospective, I'm reminded of just how many ideas I saw taken from Xenogears in this show, from the bright yellow city visuals to the Woman/man one winged angel allegory, the costumes/uniforms. In the end ofc Xenogears was just so much better h-heh :p
The last few episodes just shat out so much information that it took away from the beautiful world the anime built before. It had so much potential. It is still one of my favorite animes though, despite a common distaste for it.
I was so willing to hope this anime could fix itself after episode 15, and after I watched the ending, I only have one thing to say about DarliFran: Read the manga instead.
@@regis2726 the manga ended on a happy note. but honestly it wasn't satisfying. I mean the effect of the terrible original ending couldn't just be rectified. But I'm glad I read the manga. Though I wish they added a few happy chapters after Ch 60.
Yūcas I know right it just wasn’t satisfying a little was changed but I would at least liked to see the aftermath like the anime. I’m happy that there was something else to look forwards to and the ending was definitely better but could’ve been approached differently. It was still a good read.
@@argenisrodriguez361 No it’s translated and they are good translations. You can find it on mangadex, mangakakalot, mangakatana, and if you just search up Darling In the Franxx manga. It’s the first link though the other sites are good too.
I’m glad you recognize that the ending is broken, but it’s not just that which makes Franxx a wreck- the last 9 episodes as a whole are hot garbage. The show completely derailed in episode 15 and went from an overall good series to a complete dumpster fire. According to Trigger, they were no longer involved in the series from episode 15 onwards, and it really shows. Multiple members of APE completely change behavior and motivations in order to reflect the made-up new alien plot which the show began to follow. Nearly all pre-existing plot points were dropped. A nonsensical, incoherent backstory appeared which invalidated the rest of the show and everything it was building up to (remember when the pilots were going to have a rebellion?) Worst of all, out of nowhere, a baffling theme of “reproduction as the end-all-be-all of life” was introduced. The series very clearly and explicitly equates not being able to reproduce, especially as part of a heterosexual, monogamous relationship, with being inhuman. It also strawmans LGBT and gender-nonconforming people with the Nines, who are portrayed as evil gender terrorists who seek to wipe out sacred, precious hetero-monogamy. Mitsuru’s bisexuality is treated as merely a byproduct of his admiration of Hiro and something he has to “grow out of” in order to become a “real man” and impregnate his wife in the “natural order”. Similarly, Ikuno’s sexuality is treated as a defect, and it’s framed that she can never truly be “complete” unlike the heterosexual couples, because two girls can’t have a biological child together. Jacob Chapman over at ANN did two excellent podcast episodes about this. They’re basically required listening before you discuss what Franxx was trying to say. None of the alien nonsense which took over the show in epsisode 20 had any relevance to these themes, or to the character drama the show had been about before episode 15. The ending, of course, is a disaster on nearly every level, attempting to replicate the alternate TTGL ending from the Lagann-Hen movie but not having the setup or emotional investment required to make it work.
In a fanfic I’m working on, I make big changes to this series to remove its most awful qualities while providing brand new material that helps to enchance the themes of the show. One big change that I find necessary is Papa. Papa should’ve been much more similar to the parasites and face similar issues as them, like soldier death, purpose, and freedom. Why? BECAUSE HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE GODDAMN FATHER FIGURE FOR PARASITES. Hell, they could portrayed a direct father and child relationship with him and the Nines to further question what was humanity and the ideas of love (as Papa was raising the clone children of his biggest enemy, 001). I find the whole gender thing with the Nines too odd and unnecessary when they do actually lean to boy and girl partnerships and do seem to go for a specific gender look (and Nine Alpha is the biggest example as he looks and acts like a pretty boy). Do I even have to mention that the human to human ironically are the worse relationships in the show? Ichigo and Goro fuck and have kids just because author retardation. Mitsuru and Kokowhore have a relationship that’s shallow and thoughtless as hell. And the only good couple are the HUMAN reincarnations of Hiro and 02. But that pissed me off the most because Hiro was sacrificing his humanity to truly be the same as 02 and 02 was on a arc on accepting herself as a monster. But this fucking show said, “they can’t be a happy couple unless they’re humans.” Another thing I have to say is that the picture book honestly feels like the true lore for the story. All you have to do is put 001 as the Princess, Papa as the prince, and the unseen true threat as the weird and purple Witch. It would absolutely explain why current humanity looked similar to the medieval period that was protrayed in the picture book and why in the hell would 001 would even understand english, have unexplained issues with accepting partners (as she almost killed her husband), and why she worn a black crown. It would even explain why did the picture book even existed and Papa’s motivations. As 001 had a memory ability that could allow her clones to somehow remember her memories and Papa would be motivated by his hatred for 001, thinking that she actually killed his wife because he had no idea about his wife’s true appearance and culture. Also, that would tie the conflict more closely with love and the humanity theme.
Wow never knew trigger stopped helping and it shows for it after episode 15 people say it was bad but i think after 18 it gets bad yeah never a big fan on the wedding part but the zero two and hiro scenes are priceless and you know it . Also i find the ned of episode 21 when zero two coming to get hiro also priceless it shows how much zero two cares about him but i hated how they went with her mind stuck in the alpa thing and the alien thing was also terrible but im not sure what else they could of done after episode 18. I think after episode 18 they could of done idk i not good with ideas but the show was good after episode 18 they could of changed it up but episode 21 and 14 are my favorite.
Episodes 1-15 were absolutely perfect. Especially episodes 13 and 15.
15 was the best one yesss
This has been a year but 13 and 15 is still the best episode.
Also since it has been a year, ep 24 actually feels better now, sure VIRM lives. But we have to remember, they are eternal. They cant die, yet.
This, the end of the first half of Darling in the Franxx was glorious. Episodes 13, 14 and 15 were such a rollercoaster of strong emotions to me, very few times I've found myself so damn invested in the development of the relationship between two characters as I was at that point.
In their own way, both the end of the first and the second half of Darling in the Franxx are impossible to forget.
I thought I was the only one who thinks that 13 14 15 is the best episode lol

16 to 24, filler. 15 was the ending, last 10 minutes of 24 epilogue.
They should have finished episode 24 where the VIRM left the earth and gave us a movie for the rest
Yeah mate
But instead they finished it by blowing the mcs and reincarnating them in the last second(the virm not even destroyed)

The best way I can think of to describe Darling In The Franxx is this:
The anime is like an essay.

When people dropped this show and wrote it off as awful when the ending dropped it just Broke my heart. I'll be the first to say that the ending arc really did derail the narrative the show had maintained thus far, but i just so, SO DEARLY loved the journey this show took me on.
Ep 15 is great!
I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm "only" 23 years old, but it is just as you describe it. I have seen it all around me for so many years now, experiencing it as well, and to watch this anime feels like I am watching scenes of my own past play on screen right before me. Sorry i just wanted to get this out there.
rain preach brother
"They taught everyone else how to live, but they never got to live that life themselves" this right here 😭
@@georgewashington9087 Yeah it was a mess with the sudden appearance of VIRM and the space wars, but i chose to ignore that and just follow Zero Two's and Hiro's story... Im sure the haters didn't even notice how the converted giant Sterilizia Zero2 was actually wearing a wedding dress, after Hiro's vow, they only chose to see a titanic mecha girl in space and conclude that the ending was shitty.
Darling in the Franxx is definitely in my top 5 of all time; Though the last few episodes dropped the ball, i still love it.
Hopefully u have only seen 5 anime then Lol
Hope this is a joke.
i love it for what it is but this has to be a joke
You must have only ever watched 5 anime.

MokZY I think you mean 19 good sir.

This is correct
*At least the OP and ED were good songs*
Meh, both were pretty mediocre honestly
Because professionals with a concrete vision worked on those, that's why SAO's intro/outro _music_ never gets much flak, even as fun as it is to shit on it for a lot of the anime community. I do love Kiss of Death, ngl, I like most intro songs for standard "bad anime" shows because of that.

I personally don't like to watch airing anime weekly. I binge watch them, when they are fully released. That way you don't lose the tension and also stay emotionally engaged throughout it. The only exceptionhere is OnePiece for obvious reasons.

In hindsight, Darling in the Franxx was Trigger trying to do Kiznaiver again but with Gurren Lagann mixed in.
Yoooo you are so right best explanation
This show is such a mishmash of themes you can see almost whatever you want in it.
No.. no it's pretty plainly a romantic drama disguised as a mech fighting anime that sideswipes you with the strongest feelbomb ever recorded on episode 13 and makes you question how you got where you are. It sold itself as average with waifu bait 02 all over it and only after you invest some time into the series do you understand the emotional weight behind her character and the series.
There's no mishmash of themes, it's at most 3 and they intermingle perfectly.

I do believe the anime had potential. I loved it a lot and still do. I just feel the studios were put into pressure which led to a less thought out ending.
Arkada, *PIN THIS PERSON'S COMMENT!*
Yeah, we had the same exact experience.
Exactly. I wasn’t a big fan of Hiro and Zero Two, as a couple, either

This anime is up there for me with Clannad, assassination classroom and Gurren Laggan

PID I hated episodes 20-23, but since episode 24 was decent, I was also satisfied with the ending, other than that gay shit where VIRM was completely destroyed and they said they would return, makes Hiro and Zero Two’s death almost wasted
YES SOMEONE WHO AGREES THAR EPISODE 24 WAS ACTUALLY OKAY
I don't why this show made me feel a way that is so unexplainable it's scary

CONFESSION:
I actually enjoyed the ending, tragically, and happily at the same time.
This was the first Anime i ever watched, i love it it's still my favorite anime.

I ain't saying Kokoro's perfect, but she's human & given the show is about angsty teens figuring themselves out;

I’m subbing thank you so much I loved this series because of the characters and themes but all I see is hate on it but you showed it love thank you
This anime had a special place in my heart so when I saw the ending I fricking cried like like a baby.
I will never forget this anime.
Same bro like it's my top 3 now
I think we can all agree that we need to mentally erase episodes 22-24 from our minds and keep the ending with everyone on earth thriving again while keeping the teaser for the beginning of a new story. I will never stop defending this show, I will never forget it.
It would be like a dream come true for me if we could eventually get a season 2. This is one of my all time favorite anime’s for sure.
they really needa do a re of this anime and do something where since hero is turning into a klaxosaur he’s been hallucinating and since it’s the first human to start turning into klaxosaur he’s able to predict the future and because of this he realizes that the path they were taking would only lead to the extinction of humanity so because of this they decide to team up with the klaxosaur and rebuild earth by having children and creating new and improved franxx and kill off the virm that’s the only way i could see it redeeming himself
You just explained the ending of the show. This is exactly what happens it was just fast forwarded to thousands of years
This one broke me this year, god dam glad I sat through the harder to watch moments though :)
well bro oregairu is much more dramatic than this
but yes i respect your opinion
Looks like just... drama and fan service.
*How to cure my depression*
- Meanwhile 1000 light years away from Earth -
Bardock: Frieza YOU WILL PAY
Frieza: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Bardock: NO WAY
*Planet Vegeta blows up*
The ending was so emotional, I cried
You literally took the words out of my mouth. You took my feeling and put them into words when i couldn't. I would like to say THANK YOU
TOOT TOOT ALL ABOARD THE DINOSAUR TRAINWRECK!
"Where the hell did episodes 19-24 come from!?"
Say all the people who have never seen Getter Robo Armageddon before.
Oh man
Arkada's voice is so soothing :)
I was so willing to hope this anime could fix itself after episode 15, and after I watched the ending, I only have one thing to say about DarliFran:
Read the manga instead.
I'm reading the manga too. It's taking a long time but worth it if the the ending arc is different.
@@regis2726 where do you read the manga ? I thought it was only in Japanese.
A nonsensical, incoherent backstory appeared which invalidated the rest of the show and everything it was building up to (remember when the pilots were going to have a rebellion?)
Worst of all, out of nowhere, a baffling theme of “reproduction as the end-all-be-all of life” was introduced.
But this fucking show said, “they can’t be a happy couple unless they’re humans.”
Another thing I have to say is that the picture book honestly feels like the true lore for the story.
@Glass Reflection This is what I literally feel towards the show, good thing I'm not the only one. Loved your review
This show makes me cry so much every time.
